Chapter Seven: We Have To Go

"What about Edward?" Dean asked as Alice hurriedly shoved by the boys and made her way to the front door. She turned to face them.
"He thinks Bella is dead. My sister told him why I came here and now, he's going to the Volturi." She explained.
"What the hell is a Volturi?" Sam asked.
"It's like our form of government." Alice flung open the front door and moved swiftly to the kitchen where Jacob and Bella had been talking. Jacob was backing away from Bella as she stared at the phone.
"Who was that?" Bella asked, watching Jacob's mood change.
"Always in the way." Jacob hissed. Each step he took away from Bella, she drew in closer.
"Jacob, who was that?" She demanded to know.
"Bella, get back!" Jacob exclaimed as he grabbed onto the kitchen counter for balance. Alice, Sam, and Dean entered the kitchen as Bella drew in closer to Jacob. Bella looked at Alice with concerned eyes.
"Bella, it's Edward." Alice's voice was shaky and it sent goosebumps down Bella's back. "He thinks you're dead and Rosalie told him why I came here."
Bella's eyes shot towards Jacob and her body tremored with anger and worry. "Why did you..." She trailed off. She wasn't sure what words were to come off her tongue. "Why didn't you let me speak to him?" Bella shouted.
"He didn't ask for you!" Jacob's voice matched Bella's as he shouted back.
"I don't care!"
Alice grabbed hold of Bella's arm and turned her towards her and away from Jacob. She placed both hands firmly on Bella's shoulder as she looked into Bella's eyes. "Bella, he's going to the Volturi." The name of the vampire's form of government sent shivers down Bella's spine. She remembered when Edward had told her about them and Carlisle's time with them. They seemed ruthless.
"He wants to die too."
Bella thought the Volturi's name sent shivers, but once those words hit Bella's ears, she nearly fell to her knees. Her entire body felt weak and she wasn't sure how she was supposed to process this. Tears filled her eyes and her body shook underneath Alice's hands.
"Bella?" She could barely hear Sam's voice with the ringing occurring in her ear. Her eyes had drifted from Alice to the floor as she thought about the Volturi ripping Edward's head off and setting his body aflame. She could see the image vividly and she wanted to scream. She could feel the scream scratching at her throat, but wasn't sure how to let it out.
Bella felt like she had been standing there for several hours and tried her best to regain her composure. She ripped away from Alice's grip and shoved through her guests, making her way up to her bedroom. Alice followed close behind and Sam and Dean watched as Jacob eyed the stairs.
"You should have let him talk to her." Dean pronounced. Jacob's eyes shot towards Dean.
"And let him get into her head again and she's depressed all over again?" Jacob interrogated. "No. I couldn't do that."
"Well, you haven't made things better." Sam added. Jacob's eyes squinted as he eyed the tallest Winchester.
"Good riddance." Jacob hissed. Without thinking, Dean shoved his elbow into Jacob's throat and shoved him against the wall.
"You think you did something good?" Dean began shouting. "You think you're a hero? Well, you're not! I don't know the situation between you or Bella or even this Edward guy, but what I do know is him leaving destroyed her and now with this news, it's going to be worse so good job to you."
Jacob's hands scratched at Dean's elbow, trying to get him off. "I will kill you." He growled. Dean's elbow pushed further into Jacob's throat.
"I hunt things like you. I hunt you. You don't scare me."
"You hunt things like the Cullens too, but you're defending a worthless bloodsucker."
Dean removed his elbow from Jacob's throat. The boy had a point and Dean wasn't about to admit it. Why was he defending a vampire when those were the very things they hunted and killed? Was it for the sake of Bella or did he really believe Alice when she had said they were innocent and didn't harm people?
Dean stepped away from Jacob and Jacob stared at him with lips curved into a smirk. It frustrated Dean.
"Let's just check up on Bella." Sam said, pulling Dean away from Jacob. Dean obeyed and they began making their way to the stairs when Bella and Alice had come down. Bella had a backpack slung over her shoulder and a piece of paper in hand.
"What's this?" Dean asked as they met the two at the bottom of the staircase. Bella shoved through him and Sam and continued on to the kitchen.
"She's coming with me." Alice responded.
"Like hell she is!" Sam barked. Dean watched Sam's body tense as Alice inched towards him.
"She is coming with me to save my brother." Alice repeated, inches away from Sam and Dean's faces. "Is there a problem with that?"
"You're damn right there's a problem with that." Dean spoke. "You're not taking Bella anywhere."
"Guys!" Bella exclaimed as she exited the kitchen with Jacob hot on her heels. "I'm going and that's final. Let's go, Alice."
Alice and Bella hurriedly made their way out of the door with Jacob, Sam and Dean close behind them.
"He left you, Bella. He didn't want you anymore." Jacob remarked as Alice began to pull the car around.
"Yeah, well, I'm not gonna let him kill himself out of guilt." Bella's voice tremored as she reached the car and threw her bag in the back seat. She opened the car door and eyed Jacob carefully.
"What about your dad?" Jacob questioned, trying everything to get her to stay.
"I'm eighteen. I'm free to go and I left a note." Bella commented as she got into the car. Dean bent down by Alice's window and watched Bella.
"Bella, don't go." Dean said. "You can't."
"Why can't I?" Bella questioned.
"What are we supposed to tell Charlie?" Sam asked, bending over beside Dean.
"Come with us." Alice said almost immediately.
"What?" Bella retorted with surprise. Alice looked towards Bella.
"If they come, they can see we are not a danger to you or any other person in Forks and won't try to kill my family." Alice explained. "Also, if they come, you'll get in less trouble with Charlie. They can just say they took you out to get your mind off things."
"Like a road trip?" Sam queried.
"Exactly." Alice responeded.
"Okay, but if they're going to come, they need to get going because we need to leave now." Bella ordered. The boys rushed and grabbed their belongings from the Impala, including their duffel full of rock salt, knives, holy water, iron, and so on and so forth. They threw them in the trunk of Alice's car and climbed into the back. Jacob reached through Alice's window and eyed Bella with tear filled eyes.
"Please, Bella. Just stay here." He begged.
"I have to go, Jacob."
"I'm begging you. Please, for me?"
"Goodbye, Jacob." Bella said in a quiet voice. Jacob's face dropped as he looked at Bella longingly for the last time. He slowly slid from the window and backed away from the car. Alice gave one last look to Bella and she nodded her head as she put her seatbelt on.
"Okay." Alice said quietly, putting the car in drive. "By the way, I hope you guys know you won't be able to bring any of your equipment on the plane." She added.
"Plane?" Dean panicked. "Nobody said anything about a plane."
