Maeve paced back and forth behind the witch, who stood at her altar, watching Meara's fall through a crystal orb.
"It's been a week, how long is this going to take?" She growled impatiently.
The witch smiled over her shoulder in a way that would have been seductive but in her child form suggested a more sinister feel. "You can't rush these things, little puppy. Just be patient."
"I have been patient and yet you aren't doing what I asked for!" Maeve snarled, her wolf turning her eyes blue as it itched just beneath her skin. "Conan has asked a god, a god, to search for that selfish bitch! If they so much as go looking in the right direction-"
"Oh, it seems Conan is finally using all his favors, how cute." The witch child giggled, unbothered by the she-wolf's worries.
"Are you even listening?" Maeve was at a loss, she was a witch sure, one of the most powerful ones to ever live, yet the fact that gods were getting involved in their business didn't even faze her.
"Of course I'm listening, puppy, you're afraid of being caught."
The witch wasn't wrong, but Maeve vibrated with anger at the notion of the witch knowing. She took a breath and tried to calm herself. "I am simply concerned that the meddling of the gods will interrupt our deal."
The witch smothered a laugh. "You really are naive."
Looking her up and down, the witch eyed Maeve with a critical eye that put the wolf on edge though she managed to keep herself from squirming. Smiling, the witch left the podium, floating in front of Maeve so that they were eye level. "Hmmmm, a little over four hundred but still so immature...Meara certainly had her hands full with you. Tell me, was it Akari you really wanted or the power she had? After all, they raised you, didn't they?"
Maeve pulled away with disgust, "They didn't raise me, I was of marriageable age when they took me in. Besides, Akari truly loved me. That's why Meara must pay! She couldn't have him so she took him away!"
The witch pulled back too, a frown on her face as she studied the wolf trembling in anger before her, barely containing her wolf who raged on the inside. This wolf has deluded herself, she thought silently, for nearly four hundred years. How fortunate she was to capture such a wolf in her webs. Smiling to herself, the witch motioned for her cauldron to float forward, quickly followed by spell components.
The wolf seemed to have calmed down though only enough to be wary of the witch's sudden spell making. "What are you doing?"
The witch giggled, "Making a potion, silly puppy. I'll be sending you to Meara now."
Maeve snarled, "WHAT? That wasn't part of the deal! You're just trying to avoid a confrontation with those damned gods!"
Maeve paused in her spell making and stared down the insolent wolf before her. The room seemed to grow too small for the both of them, the shadows elongating and whispers growing steadily stronger until they were practically screaming in Maeve's ear. Fear began to well deep in the pit of her stomach.
"The gods wouldn't dare to interfere in my business, Maeve Blackheart."
Maeve blinked as dread climbed it's way up her spine. "How did you…"
"Don't even ask that question." The witch rolled her eyes, "Naive Little Girl, I am sending you to deal with Meara on your own. You want faster results, then make those results happen yourself."
The witch spoke a spell and before Maeve could protest or get any more answers, magic swept around her as darkness rose around her.
