Another short chapter, I wanted to write a fic with Shannon and Kristy older fic and this just popped into my head. This is kind of the adult/mirror scene (inverse maybe?) of the Claudia and Kristy shopping chapter in Kristy and the Sister War. I've been critical of my writing lately so I don't know if this any good or not. Please drop me a line and tell me I'm not insane lol.
Happy reading!
Kristy Thomas stared at Shannon Kilbourne brown eyes wide and head cocked slightly. They were at a dress shop just randomly shopping of all places. Well Shannon was shopping for herself, Kristy was shopping for new clothes for her work. This was her first teaching job at Stoneybrook Academy outside of the student teaching she had done. As a congrats on getting the job, Elizabeth had gave her about five hundred dollars to spend on new work clothes. Shannon was one of her friends that had the afternoon off to go with her.
"Oh this is cute, your kids will get a kick out of this," said Shannon pulling a white dress with black clocks printed on it. A black belt sitting at just above the natural waistline.
"They'll definitely find it funny," said Kristy slowly pulling a red one off the rack with black scotty dogs on it. "What about this?"
"Cute! You know I like this idea you have," said Shannon. "Dresses, or I guess clothes, with fun prints. Those kids at Stoneybrook Academy won't know what hit them. You'll be the fun teacher everyone wishes they had. Like a modern Ms. Frizzle!"
"Well it wasn't my idea alone," said Kristy hating to admit it. "One of the secretary's wore some fun prints like that when Karen was at the Academy. I guess I kind of ran with it when she retired. Anyway you really don't think Mrs. Titus would think of me as unprofessional?"
"No way, you still look nice and it's not like your wearing dirty sneakers and a ball cap. It's not like a rainbow threw up on you either. What about this?"
She held up a blue dress with white polka dots all over it. Kristy nodded and threw it on the pile of dresses that she already said yes to. Along with some fun printed blouses and black slacks naturally. Kristy couldn't believe that she was enjoying shopping. Granted, it was for the kids in her brand-new third grade class but this wasn't that bad.
"So have you met any of the kids yet?" asked Shannon. "Third grade is a challenging year. Have you heard of the second grade slump?"
"Only a few kids. I've heard of it but haven't witnessed it yet."
The second grade slump was when reading became tough for kids. No longer were students reading for fun, but also learning how to apply concepts and the like into their reading skills. It was tough for those that had a hard time with reading to begin with.
"I'm getting this one for when I teach science class!" said Kristy finding one with eyes with different colors printed all over it.
"Oh Kristy!" said Shannon giggling. "Fine but that means you have to get this one for math!"
It had math problems printed all over it like A plus 5 equals nine and it was flattering looking. Kristy shrugged and put it on her pile. This was not what he was expecting but still. They continued to shop around sometimes finding the most fun printed dresses and clothes for Kristy's new job. Well with fun patterns, some weren't exactly that professional. They had skipped a few of those racks.
"I can't believe that I'm saying this, but this isn't as bad as I thought it would be," said Kristy paying for the clothes.
"It's because we're looking for fun patterns that kids would like, which is better then blazers," said Shannon rolling her eyes and pointing to her bag of stuff she paid for. "All of this has to fit in my suitcase too."
She made a face and looked sad yet happy at the idea of leaving. Kristy knew that she was going back to London, England because of this big important job she got working with the UN. It was an impressive job but that wasn't her ideal career.
"Well just remember we have a party for you before you leave," said Kristy reminding her, she and Anna Stevenson were planning it. "I'll buy you a super burrito from Casa Grande."
"Before we do that, there's one thing you should do before school starts next week," said Shannon and smiled brightly. "We should go and get your hair done."
"Yea sure and you can pay for it and our lunch," said Kristy sarcastically rolling her eyes.
She tucked the bags in her arm wishing that she had a shopping cart of some kind. However she was at Washington Mall, but lugging the bags around was a good form of cardio.
"I'll pay for it all."
"Really?"
Disbelief written all in Kristy's face at the very suggestion. Shannon smiled brightly at the idea that she might have really gotten Kristy to go along with the idea. Kristy tugged at her hair and made a face at it changing somehow.
"Yes! I'll pay for both your hair and lunch," said Shannon with a knowing look on her face. "Think of it as my going away present."
"You really want this to be your going away present. Okay, I can return what I got you already and this is it."
"Kristy."
"Fine, I'll humor you and we'll get my hair done," said Kristy. "On two conditions, we have to get dessert and window shop on the way there."
"Deal!"
With that they were off to find a salon. Kristy just rolled her eyes and shook her head. They stopped at Critters to look at the puppies in the window. Got a cruller from Donut Delight and made a quick stop in the Cheese Outlet for free sample. Even her hair didn't turn out that bad. Somehow the stylist didn't make her look too prissy with long bangs and light brown highlights. Plus a free burrito and dessert?
Her day wasn't that bad at all.
