When she escaped town to save her parents, she had got Katherine to cover her tracks, so that Klaus doesn't know she is out, when she wanted to escape Stefan, she got Katherine to play her role again and now that she has actually bunked her classes to spend a day with Klaus she actually forgot a perfect excuse to make to her mother.

God, she is doomed, her mother caught her bunking classes, what is she supposed to do, she panics and Klaus laughs seeing her react this way, she knows how to deal with original vampires but she doesn't know how to deal with this. Klaus tries to calm the situation for her, he takes her phone and says, "Actually Elena is out on school's behalf, she has to participate in interschool elocution for a day and that is why she left early."

"Tell me the venue, I'd meet her there." Klaus wishes he could just compel Miranda Gilbert to leave it be but then he decides to end the conversation a sap so he tells her.

"Actually the school's vehicle broke we won't be able to make it there in time so we are sending your daughter home." Klaus disconnects before Miranda even has the chance to react.

Elena looks at him surprised and he says, "What, I am sending you back, I can do the wolf hunt alone."

Soon he books a cab for her to return home and after she has left he leaves for the wolf hunt. Elena returns home safely obviously Caroline questions her on bunking classes and Elena tells her that Klaus took her for blood donation and she was not able to attend the classes.

Elena and her friends decided to keep Elena's role in making the hybrid secret from her parents and as all knew that they were the founding families, still they were kept at bay from how much their children are actually involved with the vampires.

Stefan found out who Katherine was on the very same day but before he could attack or confront her the senior Gilberts returned and Katherine stuck to playing Elena and Stefan had to support her in that because neither of them knew where Elena was.

Obviously, later when he heard Elena's voice in the house he went upstairs to confront her where she easily denied being there with Klaus in front porch at all. She convinced Stefan that it was Katherine since the beginning. Stefan fell for her lie and Katherine vamped out of the house the minute she saw the opportunity.

After learning that Klaus took Elena for a blood donation they decided that Stefan or Damon should stay with her but the Gilberts were totally opposed to the idea of a boy staying the night with their girl so it was decided that Caroline, Bonnie and Elena would stay together.

That night the girls had a sleepover but it was not until the next day when the actual disaster came. After school when the girls were returning home together Klaus abducted Elena from right under their noses and took her to her house. Yes, her house, because they would all look for her in his mansion.

After they have entered her room she jerks his hand away and says, "Klaus, what the hell, you wanted to talk to me you should have called."

"Elena, we need to see a witch"

"Again?"

"Your blood, I can't make hybrids anymore from your blood, all those wolves I hunted died."

"You brought me here to tell me that you don't need me anymore, right" she raises an eyebrow.

"No, I brought you here so that you could talk to Drizzella, after my last encounter with her she is not picking my calls, if you call her then maybe she'll listen."

"So, what shall I talk to her about?"

"Ask her why I can't make hybrids anymore, ask her how to fix it."

Elena agrees and calls Drizzella, she picks up and on informing her about the same Drizzella tells her,

"Elena, I knew from the minute you entered that circle that it was you and not Katherine, we witches had planned to link Klaus' life with Katherine and kill her but when I learnt that it was you, I changed the dark spell into a light magic spell, you saw those flowers bloom, indicating your new relationship with Klaus. Klaus can no longer abuse you for your blood, your blood is useless for him to make the hybrids."

Klaus snatches the phone from Elena, "Witch how dare you? You did this intentionally, I will kill you the minute I find you."

Drizzella doesn't answer Klaus' threat but she says one more thing before ending the call, "At times, you can draw from his strength, because he belongs to you as you belong to him."

Klaus gets mad on learning that he can no longer make any hybrids, he throws her phone on the wall and it breaks. He starts breaking things in her room and Elena is scared seeing this, because she knew that as long as he needed her blood she was safe around him but now that he doesn't need her anymore he is a threat to her and her loved ones, she must do something and she must do that thing fast.

Her phone is in pieces she needs to get out of that room and inform others of the crisis at hand, yes, she is free from being his human blood bag but she is also vulnerable now. She knows he would kill her and her family because he doesn't need her anymore and after first time in a long while her heart shivers.

She sees him destroying the furniture in her room, she looks at the door and he is luckily away from it, she thinks she can make it to the door if he is not paying attention to her. She takes slow steps towards the door and touches the knob, Klaus comes and stands before her in a fraction of second and she pauses.

"Where do you think you're going?" He gives her a cold stare, his eyes glowing yellow golden and veins forming under his eyes. All this makes her heart beat even faster, she is sure he can hear her heart thudding so fast as though it would come out of her chest, but what can she do now, he was a predator and she was his prey, with fear filling her hurt she steps away from him without breaking the eye contact and he steps towards her until her back hits the wall and she has no outs because Klaus locks her between the wall and his arms.
