Tanjiro Kamado was considered to be a strange child ever since he was very young. He could smell things most people would never be able to, his sense of smell on par with that of any wild animal, and he could communicate with animals almost before he could even talk.

What really surprised and horrified most people was that he could see things most people couldn't. He could see through to peoples real emotions and thoughts and could even see the dead, the dead who he could see and talk to.

The dead who immediately flocked to him as soon as they realized he could see and talk to them and relay messages to their loved ones for them. Something that he was more than happy to do to give them and their loved ones some closure. In thanks the spirits did their best to do something for the boy, whether it was teach him certain skills they knew or just tell him stories of the past or just floating around and giving him someone to talk to as he chopped trees and wood with his dad.

Usually after a few days they either went back to their loved ones or passed on happily now that they or their loved ones had closure.

There was one spirit who was a prominent figure in Tanjiro's life and who helped him alter the course of the future drastically.

"There we go Tanjiro-kun. That's amazing. You've got the forms of Sun Breathing down to perfection." Uncle Yoriichi, as Tanjiro called him, said praising the boy after he had managed to finish his training before he started on his wood cutting.

"Thank you Yoriichi-sensei." Tanjiro bowed to the ghost who smiled and ruffled his hair.

"I'll be leaving again soon. I want to go check on Tamayo-san before going to visit my brothers descendants. I haven't seen them in a while." Yoriichi informed the boy who nodded and gave him a smile as bright as the sun as he began to chop at some trees with his hatchet.

"See you later Uncle Yoriichi!" Tanjiro waved goodbye to the ghost who quickly vanished to go and find the ones he seeked while Tanjiro felt a flick on the top of his head.

"You're doing amazing son. I'm so proud of you." Tanjuro praised his son, making Tanjiro blush and smile happily as he went back to work in order to make sure his siblings were going to be able to eat their fill on New Years.

Tanjiro ended up staying the night with the kind but lonely old man near the base of the mountain after going down to town in order to sell the charcoal to the villagers who were more than happy to see the young man. First thing in the morning he went out and headed back home, only to be horrified at the smell of blood as he raced forward and saw his family dead.

"Tanjiro! Tanjiro! Nezuko is becoming a demon!" His father and mother were crowded around his younger sister along with his little siblings, although he could see their bodies butchered like animals within the house.

"I'll get her somewhere safe before a Slayer comes." Tanjiro promised as he lifted his sister up onto his back and looked at his families spirits with tears in his eyes.

"I'll be back to bury you all as soon as I get Nezuko to safety." Tanjiro promised and his mother and siblings nodded before Tanjiro took off running to try and find somewhere safe for his sister to hide from Slayers and the sun both. His family followed him.

"Tanjiro! Use your Breathing Techniques!" His father yelled as Tanjiro hurled a rock at the man who had just stabbed his now demon sister who hadn't eaten Tanjiro and instead had cried when he begged her to remember.

"Sun breathing first form! Dance!" Tanjiro cried as his hatchet released sun flames from it when he lunged for the man whose eyes widened in shock at what he called the attack. The pinkish haired spirit with the fox mask and the female spirit accompanying the man were both stunned and yelling for him to stop but Tanjiro didn't listen. His little sister was the only family he had left that he could touch and hold and protect. He wouldn't let anyone hurt her.

"Boy. How do you know that technique?" The man demanded glaring at Tanjiro after Tanjiro had hit his kimono and burnt a good bit of his sleeve while knocking the mans sword from his hand.

"My name is Kamado Tanjiro the eldest and now only son of the Kamado family! That technique is one passed down from father to son in the family ever since my ancestor Sumiyoshi learned it from Tsugikuni Yoriichi!" Tanjiro said proudly as he stared down the demon slayer who looked shocked at this.

"Bold words boy." The man said and Tanjiro tilted his head slightly as he looked at the man in front of him and listened to the spirits of the mans friend and family.

"I believe your friend Sabito would agree that I'm a man." Tanjiro said and instantly the older man had the front of Tanjiro's clothes held in a tight grip.

"What do you know of Sabito?" The man asked with a desperate and angry tone as he stared at Tanjiro.

"I've been able to see the spirits of the dead ever since I was born. Your friend in the fox mask is currently glaring death at me on your left side, your sister is on your right scolding me. She seems like a good big sister Giyu-san." Tanjiro said and Giyu's grip on his clothes slackened a bit, his eyes wide and stunned as he stared at Tanjiro before he was kicked away by Nezuko who moved in front of her brother protectively and growled angrily at Giyu.

"Nezuko." Tanjiro said and she looked at him curiously, no growls and no hints of hunger.

"It's alright. He's not going to hurt you. Big brother won't let him." Tanjiro promised as he rubbed his sisters head and she nudged into it happily, suddenly shrinking a little bit.

"You and her both are coming with me. We need to inform the other pillars about this." Giyu said glaring at them and stunned at the fact that the girl wasn't trying to eat her brother.

"We'll come with you without a fight but please give us time to go back and bury our family."
