A short one that I really liked, I feel like it shows the personality of everyone quite well. Idk ;)

A few weeks later, Kagome met Shippo. It happened when Koga was giving her a tour of the wolf tribes. She never visited Sesshomaru's compound when she was with HIM, and Koga had made his intentions clear to stay away from the place. It was definitive that every yokai was a jealous prick. Koga told her to prepare herself, but she didn't expect to be carried for three or four hours with a few breaks from her place to the nearest tribe, his tribe. They lived in equilibrium with nature, settling near a body of water, and with archaic but really beautiful huts. The wolves had only the essentials, but they appeared to be a thrilled bunch, all except for Ayame. Kagome got a stab in the pit of her stomach when she saw her, Ayame was an extremely beautiful white wolf with red hair. In her human form, she wore white fur on her body and legs. Kagome remembered Inuyasha's hair and everything that came with his image when she thought about him. She couldn't even get nervous at the implication, she was too busy burying the image of Inuyasha deep within herself again.

Ayame saw a plain human woman in front of her and was unimpressed. Koga talked about her all the time, and this human seemed far away in her thoughts. Maybe the girl was accustomed to luxury, the tribe had their riches in a bank or another, using Sesshomaru's alliance as their primary income but the wolves didn't need the money so they stash it away. It had come in handy from time to time. Maybe she was such a city dweller that she didn't know how to act in nature. Ayame tried to ignore her prejudices and force herself to smile at the human, make introductions, and walked to the campsite. This was going to be a long day.

"I send patrols to the Kitsune tribe but Naraku came first, only one of them survived, you can interrogate him after dinner," said Ayame to Koga, and he nodded.

Kagome was concerned, only one of the yokai in that village survived, maybe his spouse and children did not. She would have to give her condolences. She knew the price that the survivors paid; it had happened to her. In yokai society that price was even higher, without a family name. The yokai in question was dishonored. 'just like Inuyasha'. No, she could not think of him. Her new life with Koga was as comfortable as she thought, as if someone took the peaks of her life, the highest highs and the lowest lows and the only things left were common simple interactions, watching TV, having dinner, and a few travels with Koga, mundane stuff. This is what she wanted. If she could only let HIM go, she could enjoy her time with Koga, no matter how brief, and move on. She entertained thoughts of marriage to a human, to get rid of this life, the yokai life. She gave Koga an opportunity because he wanted her so much, and she didn't have the strength to fight it. Inuyasha took everything with him. She had to get over him, to take him off her system. Koga seemed to do it. He is halfway there. Not quite Inuyasha, but a member of his world. In a few years, she could let her genuine love go and leave Koga. On the other hand, Koga would spend a few years with someone he wanted. It was a win-win.

The farthest hut from the waterfall was Koga's place. Next to the entrance in a pile of leaves lay a brown furry yokai. It was the tiniest thing, and he was hugging himself and looking at the floor. At first, Kagome didn't realize that he was alive. They had burned his fur in a few places and he occupied little space. When Koga spoke to him, that's when she realized he was the survivor they were talking about.

"Kitsune, your father was the Lord of the village, am I right?" said Koga so serious and stern that Kagome broke down. A child, this was a child that had lost his parents and friends and all he knew, and Koga was making things worse. She took a few steps and suddenly hug the child.

"Are you hurt?, it's ok you are with us now," she said while rocking the little guy and sobbing. Koga was taken aback, but he let his mate play with the fox, looking bored in a few moments.

Ayame's green eyes were blazing, she was fuming. Koga always reprimanded her for one thing or the other, proper etiquette, and her place in the hierarchy, blah blah. And right now, he had the nerve to let the human interrupt the highest member of the tribe and do nothing about it. She stayed silent but was ready to throw her in a hole to rot at his firm command.

Shippo saw and smelled Kagome and was surprised to see a human. He knew that the wolf tribes sometimes ate humans but decided that this one must be special to remain alive. He opened his eyes and stared at the girl. In tears, Kagome watch his sad eyes and broken soul, she complimented Shippo on the color and softness of his tail and he blushed, Koga looked amused. After a while Kagome calmed down and talked to Shippo.

"Is that true?, was your father the leader?".

Shippo frowned at her chosen words but nodded, then without doubting her intentions, he told the tale of the attack. This was going to make him feel better, telling her was going to wash things away. Koga listened to the tale and made a mental note of the enemies. The lighting brothers were a common, lowly enemy but they were controlled by a master, Naraku. Kagome had pulled the information in a very atypical way from the fox, but it did the job, maybe better than him, because the kitsune went out of his way to please her. Koga congratulated himself for choosing such a woman as his mate.

Ayame was still silent, but no one was noticing her. She now believed that this was all a farce and Kagome was a manipulator, that's how she had gotten Koga to do all sorts or strange allowances to her. She watched the girl rock the Kitsune to sleep in her arms, now it was the time for the truth, with the objective out of the way she would show her true colors.

"what's going to happen to him?" Kagome asked Koga.

He shrugged, "I'll give him a place in the lower class if you like, otherwise he is not going to last a year".

Shippo shuddered but Kagome didn't notice, so the little fox was pretending to be asleep, Koga decided to have fun.

"or we can have him in a soup," he said and watched as Shippo pressed his eyes shut more tightly.

"Oh don't joke like that, I am worried about him, he is so cute and… so alone, it makes me worried". Koga looked at her and decided to speed things up, he had to fulfill more tasks before going to bed

"I'll tell you something, we can do anything you want" he said. Kagome hesitated, and Ayame smiled, the charade was about to be over.

"I want to be his mother" said Kagome.

More than a few moments of silence passed and Koga started to laugh, at first quietly and then a big roar, he even hugged his stomach,.

"You are always a surprising woman" he said and gave a nod. After all, the fox was as good as anything to entertain her, he could even be useful, as training for their future cubs.

"Oh Koga", she said and kissed him. Then she proceeded to ask for an ointment to cur his burns and a few other things to help the fox out.

Koga was going to insist that the fox should sleep on his own but this situation as a whole was not going to be a problem. Shippo's distant family would thank him for taking him under his care and Seshomaru would reward him for resolving a lineage issue, all was well.

"Ayame move, you are such a slow female!" said Koga annoyed, and they walked together to his place. Ayame was more than shocked, they had adopted a yokai of another species together and Kagome didn't even think about it, this was a low blow to her self-esteem, she wanted to lower Kagome to her level and had been judging her harshly, but Kagome seemed as good as he always said. She couldn't blame him for falling in love with this girl instead of her.
