Nick Fury watched on as the Tesseract malfunctioned slightly, taking his attention from Clint Barton to the glowing mechanism in front of him. It was contained in a slight programme that would make it possible to extract the powerful energy from it, to create weapons, materials of mass destruction and help protect the Earth from the nine realms.

A single beam of light shot out from the centre of the cube, creating a round, disk-like feature on the other side. He watched on as it grew bigger and bigger, to the fact it imploded on the area as it could no longer cater to its size. Blue energy sorted out to the top of the building, which was open above the tesseract, caught on fire.

A lone figure stepped out, with slicked-back black hair and glowing blue eyes and elvish features. He was sporting a manic grin, as he looked at the people around him. The agents were holding their weapons against him, and three humans were watching him with weary eyes.

"Sir!" Fury called out, staring at him with a calculating look, "please, put down the spear." his voice rang around the silenced hall as the unknown man glanced at his spear in consideration.

He promptly aimed the spear at them and unknown energy came out by the equally unknown man. The SHIELD agents started to shower him with bullets, who effectively dodged them with graceful ease. The John Doe slammed knives at his agents, some dodging while others getting hit. Agent Barton kept him away from the fire as they tried to shoot John, but the bullets merely bounced back harmlessly as he killed more than half of his agents. Which made him dangerous, foe or friend.

He held onto Barton's arm as he twisted it slightly, "You have heart," he stated consideringly as the rough, British accent left his lips. He pressed the tip of his spear on top of Barton's chest cavity, making his eyes go black for a split second before turning blue. His feature turned smooth as he fell limp in John's arms, or as limp a spy can get. He stood back, no longer thinking of him as a threat as he put his gun back in its holster, starring expectantly at the John Doe.

Fury quickly removed the Tesseract from the remains of the machine, putting it in a box, hissing slightly as it burned his skin. "I still need that," John Doe said warningly as he turned his back from him, heading toward the exit.

Fury looked back slightly, "This doesn't have to get any messier," he pointed out soothingly, in hopes to calm down the target.

"Of course it does," he scoffed, "I've come too far for anything else," Fury turned to face him completely as he went on, "I am Loki, of Asgard. And I am burdened with glorious purpose,"

Erik Selvig sat up as he heard Loki's name, "Loki?" he questioned incredulously, "-Brother of Thor?" It was the wrong thing to say as Loki snarled at his claim.

"We have no quarrel with your people," Fury said calmly as he raised a hand in a gesture of peace.

"An ant has no quarrel with a boot," he told him condescendingly.

"Are you planning to step on us?" Fury asked incredulously, staring at the person in front of him as though he were mad.

"I come with glad tidings, to make them free," he stated grandly

"Free from what?"

"Freedom," he smiled, " It is life's great lie. Once you accept that, in your heart..." he trailed off, turning to look at Dr Selvig, placing the sceptre and did the same thing he did to Barton before turning back to him, "...you will learn peace,"

"You say peace, I kinda think you mean the other thing,"

"Sir, Director Fury is stalling," Barton spoke up as he made his way to Loki's side, "This place is bound to blow, drop a hundred feet of rock on us," he smiled, "he means the barriers,"

"Like the pharaohs of old," Fury agreed.

"He's right, the portal's collapsing on itself, we've got maybe two minutes before this goes critical," Selvig threw in his two cents. "Well then," Clint shot Fury in the shoulder as they made their way to the exit.

"Agent Coulson?" Nick Fury asked over the intercom, with the calmest voice he'd ever used. "Initiate Project Avengers: we might have our hands full."

"On it, sir!" the agent said tersely as he made his way to Stark Tower, skillfully hiding his own earpiece in plain sight.

"The Avengers Initiative was shut down years ago!" Tony Stark insisted as he followed the Agent's trail, "You can't just jump start it because reindeer games came to visit,"

Pepper Potts let out a reluctant sigh as she made her way over to the pair, "Tony's right, Phil. The committee shut the project down years ago, starting it again without permission will cause serious problems around the globe."

"...I thought his first name was "Agent"," Stark muttered loud enough for them to hear -only to ignore the two looks thrown his way: one exasperated and one amused.

"You leave the politics to us," Phil Coulson assured the two, "We just need the Avengers."

"So!" Stark yelled, straightening his spine as he stared inquisitively at the Agent, "Who're my new teammates? Captain Spangles, Hulky-boy, Assistant... who else?" His grin was lopsided and cocky as he mocked his new co-workers.

"The information is present in the files," Phil stated stiffly, as he turned to walk towards the elevator, "We'll be leaving tomorrow morning."

Tony gave him a mock salute as Agent Coulson drank the last of his drink and left it at the bar.

Where do I sign up...?

Anyway, how is this waste of space for a change! I haven't written the new chapters yet, so they'll take a while.
