Chapter 6 : Some Useful Informations
They got to the western gate of this town early in the morning to meet up with the one they are going to escort.
Before that, they also took a quick bite to a stall that they passby with the remaining coins that Hinako have with her.
Anyway, when they got near the entrance gate, they saw a guy standing there with a carriage besides him.
Austina was the one who approached him and asks about a merchant asking for an escort request.
After awhile, they learned that he was the guy they are looking for.
"Oh, so you three are that newbie party. The Blue Sky Party right." The guy says before presenting his hand. "I am Sherman from the Prudle Firm. It is nice to meet you all!" He said with a good hearted grin.
"Oh, I am Austina Schloegn. That one is my master Aozora and the other is my acquaintance, Hinako." She introduced while pointing at them in turns.
After introducing themselves at each other, they got to talking about the quest.
So they will be going to Meister City so Sherman can put the stocks that he got to the firm. It seems like he works as the one who goes around the vicinity of the Meister City and buys the unique products of each places before going back to that city to put the products he got on sale.
"Your doing this alone?" Hinako asks in confusion.
"Well, our firm are short staffed so we can only do so much. That's why I rely on the Adventurer's Guild for my escorts." Sherman said. "And I think you can handle the roads just fine. You got to this town in one piece after all." He added with a relaxed smile.
"Why was it so interesting that we got here safely?" Hinako asks.
"Huh? You don't know?" He said in confusion.
Then he explained to them why it was so interesting.
It seems like lately, a lot of bandits are settling in the forests surrounding the roads from Fork Mountain upto the Meister City. So it became pretty hard to traverse the roads safely.
Bandit subjugation can't even be done by the lord of this territory because they only have enough soldiers to stay guard in the key points of this territory, like the Meister City.
It seems like many of their soldiers were stationed on the Byron Plains as aid for the Silvian Kingdom.
Byron Plains is a disputed area between the Silvian Kingdom and the Lagria Empire. It seems like the Silvian Kingdom owns this plains since the past hundreds of years but the Lagria Empire was claiming that this land was originally a part of their empire.
Because of this reason so the two nations are still in conflict with each other. They are not in war officially, but they get into skirmishes occasionally.
It seems like the country that was on the other side of the Fork Mountains is the Lagria Empire.
Having that bit of information, Aozora was wondering why that hostile nation was not using the Fork Mountains to flank this kingdom breach on it's territory.
It was answered quickly when Sherman told her that the Fork Mountain is very steep. It is so steep that no platoons can march on it. The mountain is only good for hiking or climbing. It's not for a group of people to get into an orderly rank.
Also, there is a dragon that was using it as it's home so no one would dare to even pass on it even as a joke.
Dragons in this world are regarded as one of the strongest in this world. The weakest of the dragons known to history was already an S Class Threat. That threat level indicates that it can easily destroy a country.
Aozora was convinced that no army will try their luck with that kind of environment and disadvantages.
"Anyway, that was a long conversation. Let's continue this on our way." Sherman suggested to them as he pointed to his carriage.
"Oh, right." Aozora said with a blink before she gets on the carriage.
"This is... much worse than I thought it is..." Aozora muttered while feeling very lightheaded.
The ride is pretty bumpy. It makes her very dizzy and she can feel her bile raising to her throat. She was having a very bad case of motion sickness. She was even pale because of this bumpy ride.
She was not in the mood to hear about the continuation from Sherman.
"Commander, I think you should lay your head in my lap. I can help you with your motion sickness." Hinako decided to help her in her predicament.
"Thank you... ooogh..." She almost puked when she just decided to move closer to Hinako.
Hinako took her closer to her and put her head in her lap while caressing her head.
"Is it alright if I use my nanomachines to help you Commander?"
She just groaned at her in affirmative while feeling that her world was spinning. She took that as an affirmative and put her hand in her head.
After that, she ordered some of her nanomachines to get inside Aozora and try to recover her to normal health. She also ordered the nanomachines to maintain the stability of her mind and body to ease her motion sickness from this very bumpy ride.
It was pretty uncomfortable. Even Austina who was talking cheerfully awhile ago was now feeling a bit drained because of this uncomfortable ride. Only Hinako was used to this kind of thing, having experienced some of the worst rides she have on her missions (most of it involving space).
While Hinako was trying to make Aozora comfortable, Austina was listening to Sherman even while feeling a bit tired from this ride.
They still don't know a lot on this world and it seems like even her Master was curious about it so she took it upon herself to get all these knowledge while Hinako was busy with her Master.
She didn't interrupt him while he was talking about the kingdom and other random stuffs. This guy seems to be pretty talkative. She can understand because just being silent in this bumpy ride for the whole duration of their trip will be very boring.
Anyway, Sherman continued to talk about the kingdom and the other nations.
The Lagria Empire is a militaristic state. Since the founding of the empire, their sole purpose is to unite the whole continent in their banner. That ambition seems to be still in effect till now.
Last year, it seems like the most eventful coup d'etat happened in the empire and they have a new emperor. Though it seems that the conflict between this kingdom and that empire eased for a bit, the populace are still waiting for things to blow up.
It can be seen that the two nations are not friendly enough due to the issue on the Byron Plains. There are also other problems like the captured spies that the Lagria Empire was denying they were involved to and this kingdom's border not being respected by the empire by always going inside it and putting their claim on it.
There are also rumors about Lagria having some exceptional people in their ranks. They seem to be recruiting more of them in preparation for a full force assault to this kingdom. The kingdom was also preparing for it by strengthening their defenses.
The exceptional people that the empire recruited seems to possess either some Blessings or some Unique Skills. Those two types of Skill are much more formidable than the Common Skills. So it was understandable that people of this world will see this as a threat to them.
Silvian Kingdom also have people who have Blessings or those who have Unique Skills so they think they can take care of it.
For the other minor things, it seems that Classes and Skills are a lot more important than what they think it is.
These two aspects defined the role of the people of this world.
Those who have a Swordsmanship Skill will try and become a Warrior or a Swordsman as their class. Those who have magic as their Skill will take the Mage Class and pursue only magic. People who have a Harvesting Skill will be the one who collects herbs and other plants in the forest. People who have a Logging skill will take the Lumberjack Class.
Class Changing seems to be a job exclusive for the Church. That is the only place where they can change their Classes. It seems like they need a certain amount of experience or certain skills so the Classes will become available to them.
The difference between having a Class and not is that Classes strengthen all their stats along with strengthening the relevant skill that was related to that class.
Take the Warrior Class for example. So long as they have a skill for any melee weapons, they can Class Change into a Warrior. Warrior Classes strengthens melee weapon related skills along with a boost on shield bearing and some increase in physical status.
Farmer Classes also does this. It strengthens any skills related to farming like Gardening, Crop Promotion, Harvesting, Weeding, Animal Husbandry, etc.
Changing Classes will remove all the bonuses from those skills and it will promote the skills that was related to the new Class.
This means that it won't necessarily remove the skills that those people have even when they change Classes. They only lose the benefits for having that Class.
So people can still use the skills they learned from their previous Class even if they have a different Class. Like a Farmer can still use Fire Magic because he have that skill even before he became a Farmer.
Sherman is a Merchant. It seems like he was just a low level Merchant so he can't really do some of the amazing things that high level merchants can do.
Merchants normally have skills like Arithmetic, Haggling, Estimation, and the most important one which is Appraisal.
It seems like Sherman can't do Appraisal and Haggling. His Arithmetic and Estimation skills are low level because he doesn't level up that much.
In this world, it seems like they need to accumulate a certain amount of EXP to level up. To acquire EXP, they need to kill.
It doesn't matter who or what is it. So long as they kill, they will acquire EXP.
It makes Austina sick to her guts due to hearing what is essentially a system that promotes murder for the inhabitants of this world. Her already exhausted expression turned pretty somber after hearing that info.
They talk a bit more on the way until they decided to stop on the side of the road when the evening comes. They have set a camp on the side of the road.
It seems like the carriage will also act as their shelter. This is where they can sleep.
As his escorts, they are obligated to make sure that he is safe. So they need someone to stay awake and stand guard while the others are sleeping.
Hinako took that role to herself because she can see that Austina is pretty exhausted.
As for Aozora, because she have taken a long rest in Hinako's lap so she doesn't feel that sleepy at all. She also felt a bit better now thanks to the nanomachines that Hinako uses to stabilize her health. Though it seems like it didn't recover her lightheadedness so she was still lying inside the carriage.
She was looking at her Space Hub on the Galaxy Conquest to check her Space Crystals.
She can see that she currently have 39 Space Crystals. She needs to wait a bit more and she can finally roll in this game once again.
She was a bit thankful that she can acquire a Space Crystal every hour in this game. Space Crystals are needed to buy or roll the Gacha on this game.
She needed 100 Space Crystals to roll for once. If she wants to roll 10 consecutive times, she needs 900 Space Crystals.
It seems like the second roll option is called as a 9+1 roll. So it saves a hundred Space Crystals by rolling in that option.
She also have an option to upgrade her Space Crystal Mines so it will give two Space Crystals every hour. But it costs 500 Space Crystals to upgrade it.
'That's a thing I'll decide in the future when I get to it. For now, I think I won't roll for just one only because that would be a great waste. This game also doesn't guarantee that I'll get a character because this Gacha also includes the items, weapons, and gifts in it.' She thought to herself.
Then she turned her attention to her status. Her status was very different than the people of this world.
Her status only shows the list of games that she remembered being in her mobile phone. It also shows the total amount of EXP that she have.
She doesn't have the usual status that the people of this world seems to have. No MP, no Skills, not even a Unique Ability. Any of those are nonexistent.
She looks at her Guild Card and saw that she have no Class. Which means that the system of this world doesn't even recognize her as having some sort of Class that will boost her.
Austina have the Class of the Princess Knight and Hinako have the Scout Class. She doesn't know how strong those Classes are but she thinks it might be special or something.
She doesn't have any of that. Which makes her curious.
She saw Austina getting closer to her and decided to ask her about it.
"Austina, can you see your Status?" She asks in curiosity.
"No." Austina answered to her with a sorry look.
"It's okay. I only ask just to be sure." She told her before going back to her thoughts.
It seems like her units doesn't even see their own status. To see the status, they just need to think of it. It was like how Aozora opens her own status.
Not seeing their status at all is weird in this world because every living things here can see theirs. So she was curious why it was so.
'Is it because they are just characters from my cheat powers, or maybe they are working in the logic of their own world?' She wondered to herself.
Aozora put her attention back to her status. She looks at her EXP and see that she doesn't have enough to unlock a new Idle Game.
'I need more EXP. I hope we encounter some monsters along the way.' She thought to herself.
Some hours later.
Austina and Sherman are sleeping inside the carriage. Of course Sherman made a line to separate the space where they can sleep inside it. He doesn't want to sleep along with the girls because they are not that close or intimate with each other.
Aozora was still awake and she is busying herself from looking at her Galaxy Conquest game. She also occasionally looks on her Princess Saga but she will quickly close that game due to not having anything that she can do with it.
She is trying to get back to sleep. Though it was getting hard for her. She have already slept when they were on the ride so she can't sleep at all.
Hinako was outside standing besides the carriage as a lookout. She was bored but she learned to cope up with it for a long time ago.
Hinako was taking care of her pistol which is her real standard weapon. The Plasmasteel Knife is something she uses when she wants to be more sneaky. This pistol is her primary weapon.
This pistol is the LP-133. It was a high tech looking pistol that can shoot pulse shots that can either evaporate things or cause an internal explosion depending on what shooting mode she is using. The shots are made of plasma and due to their advancement so using it became possible.
Due to being a concentrated shots of plasma so being hit by it will normally evaporate them. Though weapon like this are just the standards on their universe.
She was just done reassembling it after she checks each of it's parts. Agents like her are taught to disassemble and reassemble their weapons so they can maintain it wherever they are. They are doing this because even with all the advancement of their technology, things like errors and mechanical failures are still a thing with them.
While she was cleaning her pistol with a fabric that she have in her nanofibers, she detected some life signs getting near their camp.
Due to being surgically enhanced, so it was also obvious that there are some things that were integrated inside her body. One of those things are the nanochips that will act as a supportive AI inside her. It was connected to most of her body, with the major one being in her brain.
These nanochips will enable her to see info in her surroundings. One of the features of this nanochip is that it can also act as a radar.
It only have a 300 meter range. Expanding it will cause the data given to her to be inaccurate. So she stayed the settings on that way.
Her Support AI gave her a rough outline of the life signs that were getting closer to them. It seems like these are armed humans and they seem to be approaching this place with ill intent.
She quickly stood up and wake up the others.
She was planning to deal with this alone but after the fight yesterday, she felt that she might slip up and cause their doom. So she decided to get Austina's help and let Aozora and Sherman escape if they can't really do it.
Aozora was already awake. She was surprised when Hinako suddenly tried to wake them up.
"What is wrong?"
"Armed men are approaching our location. I think it will be better if the two of you prepare for escape while me and Austina takes care of these guys." Hinako suggested.
Austina was quick on her feet when she heard that possibly hostile people are getting closer to them. She was hastily preparing herself for battle.
While that is happening, Aozora decided to ask one thing.
"Are you really sure that they are hostile? Maybe they are just some Adventurers going back to Chloe Town." Aozora tried to reason.
She knows about the integrated AIs from the girls on Galaxy Conquest. It was repeatedly displayed on their story mode how they can detect people and sometimes even learn whether they are carrying some weapons or not.
Though she remembered that one of the characters from Galaxy Conquest said that they can't really hear or see those people that their inner radars detected. So they can't discern what the other party's intent with just the results of their radar alone.
Their integrated AI can discern allies by registering the person in their databanks. They can also mark their enemies to their databanks. Other than that, people that are not marked by them can't really be identified whether they are friendly or hostile.
"I am sure they are here to harm us. They are rushing at our position with their weapons ready. So it was only logical to think that they are coming here with ill intent." She explained to her Commander.
Aozora took a moment to process those words before she nodded slowly. She now understood that it really was suspicious if it was like that.
It was obvious that they will harm them. They are coming here on purpose with their weapons out.
"Master, I am done changing." Austina said as she got down the carriage and get in front of Aozora.
"Good, then Commander. Please get inside the carriage and wait for us." Hinako said before going to Sherman.
It seems like she was telling Sherman to flee with her Commander if the situation gets worse. They don't care if they leave her alone.
Aozora was nervous. She have already learned that the people of this world are stronger. She thinks it would be impossible for the two of them to fight a group of armed people alone even with their experience and prowess.
She looks at her status and gritted her teeth in frustration when she saw that she can't do anything at all with it.
"Master?"
Aozora looks up and saw that Austina was giving her a worried look. It seems like she saw her becoming frustrated.
She schooled her features before telling her about her worries.
"Sorry. I was just worried." Aozora honestly said while feeling a bit embarrassed about it.
Austina took a moment to blink her eyes before she gave a reassuring smile on her way.
"Don't worry Master. We won't get defeated that easily." She said before her eyes turned serious. "If it was necessary, we will take care to dispose of them. So please, don't worry about us." She reassured her.
Aozora slowly nodded before she noticed Hinako doing something on the vicinity of their camp. She seems to be kneeling on the ground and putting something in it before she moves and do it in another point.
Aozora have an inkling to what she is doing but she won't ask it. She decided that she needs to trust them more.
'It seems like they will go lethal. I don't know who are those people but I think... it was fine to kill them.' She thought. 'I mean, that is much more preferable than my friends being subjected to something worse like being killed.' She halted in her thoughts when she thinks about it. 'Friends huh? It seems like I am seeing them as my friends...' She thought with a wry smile.
It might leave a bitter aftertaste to her if Austina and the others killed just for her safety. Still, it was better for her. They are becoming important to her.
'Wow... I didn't thought that I will see them as friends. Well, maybe because they are a game character or...' She took those thoughts out of her mind.
She doesn't want to admit that she was looking for someone to be friends with. She willingly isolated herself to pursue her hobbies in her past life. So thinking about being desperate to have friends is like denying her obsession for her hobbies.
She decided to stop this train of thought and just wait for this event to be done.
