Chapter 8
Hi everyone! Sorry for the time it took, but I got some troubles and also that kind of scenes are a bit difficult for me.
REMEMBER! Between the moment the team saw the video and the moment when the Hunters realized it, time had passed, the demon bought some as long as he could.
Now enjoy!
"What's going on?! Please, untie me!"
In a very strange reversal of the situation, the team could see Tobias Hankle now tied, and four men were surrounding him. Reid was among them, stopping the oldest of the group from hitting the bound man. They could see Dean Winchester grabbing their Unsub by the hair.
"Shut up! Stop trying to trick us! What is your plan?!"
"Stop it Dean, I think it's Tobias," Sam told his brother while Reid was still keeping hold of the older man's arm.
"Please, I did no sins, I just try to follow the Lord's way…"
"It's one of his tricks," Dean growled.
"Calm down, we must keep our calm…" Sam Winchester was telling him.
"Stop hurting me, I beg you! My father always hurt me all the time, please don't do it too! He said he would bury me in the graveyard! I don't want to die now!"
Releasing himself from Reid's hold, the older man smacked the prisoner. "Stop using your vessel! Tell us the truth!
The video stopped here.
They were all unable to move or say anything as they saw this. What the Hell?! What just happened? Garcia was just agape at what she saw.
"What was Reid doing?! Who was that other man?" She breathed out.
"I..." Hotch looked at Gideon who was as puzzled as he was. "I don't know."
"Maybe he is playing their game to survive, maybe he is being threatened?" Prentiss suggested.
"I need to see it again," Gideon demanded. "We need to look at Spencer's behaviour."
They all observed and could see that Reid didn't seem scared of the Winchester brothers, nor of the unknown man with them. His body language suggested the contrary in fact. As for the others, they weren't violent toward him, the man he was restraining could have struck him but did none of that. He had released himself from Reid's hold rather gently. Morgan breathed in when something crossed his mind. He thought again about what happened between JJ and Dean, and something seemed out of place.
"You know, earlier, he was angry at JJ when she admitted she hid in the barn after killing the dogs instead of searching for Reid. What rubs me the wrong way is that it seemed really genuine," he explained.
"It could simply be because of his brother. He probably thought: 'if she had arrested Hankle, Sam wouldn't have been captured'," Emily countered.
"No, it was something else. If it was that, he would have mentioned it immediately, instead, he told her that she allowed her colleague to be captured."
"It's true, he really seemed mad at me while saying that," JJ muttered, trying to keep on with the reasoning while pushing away her feelings. "But you're not suggesting that..."
Morgan shook his head: indeed it was crazy, this was Reid they were talking about, after all. It was surely the exhaustion talking.
"It seems impossible, but Spencer does seem to be...I don't know, comfortable around them?" Gideon said, even though he could hardly believe his own words. "Well, at least it doesn't seem like they want to hurt him."
"There is something weird about it, but it's not the most important right now. The best way to know is to ask Reid when we'll find him. Let's see the video again, Hankle said something which intrigued me..."
They listened again and Hotch stopped when Hankle spoke of a graveyard. This line seemed weird.
"He said 'the graveyard', as if he was referring to a close, particular place," He pointed out.
"So they are close to a graveyard? But how did Winchester find that place before us?" JJ asked, bewildered.
"That's a good question…What was he doing before leaving?" Gideon asked.
"Oh, he was reading one of Hankle's journals," Prentiss replied while going to the room where he had been reading last. She remembered which journal he was inspecting and took it. She just had to spot the word graveyard somewhere, or cemetery…
"Here! Look!"
From Hankle said about that place, it wasn't difficult for Penelope to spot two possible location. When they saw some poaching occurred around one of those in particular, they bet on that possibility.
"I'll call the sheriff. I'll tell him to send men to help us, and to inspect other graveyard."
"Okay, let's go there."
O o O
Knowing the camera had been on, that his colleagues would see…That put Spencer into a real state of shock. Everything was crumbling right before his eyes, he could see everything he had built being thrown away like this, with a simple little video…It was as if there was nothing ahead of him, his future was over…
"Spencer…" Dean called to him while John was putting the camera down for good.
When did he turn it on? Did the team locate them already? Sam put a hand over Spencer's shoulder.
"Hey, it's okay, we'll find a solution…"
"Which one?" Sneered the demon. "How could they believe you now…"
"Shut up," John barked. "Boys, we have to exorcise him right now and leave!"
Spencer was now completely wrecked: what was going to happen? The demon smiled at him again.
"Poor Spencer…What will happen to you, now? What lie will you invent this time?"
"That won't be any of your concern!" John interrupted him.
They continued the exorcism, but although he was reciting it along with the others, Spencer started to wonder: when did he do that? A long moment had passed since 'Tobias woke up'. When did his team see, exactly? The demon spoke for a bit of time, probably in order to distract them...
The demon was yelling, he yelled threats, spoke about Mary again but there was no way they would let him distract them. The demon tried to free himself, shaking objects in the room, but his power was weakening. He screamed, not a deomic roar but a human scream. His vessel was going lax, and they all knew the end of the exorcism approached, only a bit more time…
BANG!
A loud sound stopped their voices.
"FREEZE!"
The three hunters all turned toward the door as they saw Morgan barging in first, gun in hands, followed by the rest of the team. His gun was pointed toward Dean, and Spencer immediately put himself between both his families, arms extended and a desperate look in his eyes.
"Stop it! Don't shoot!"
It was happening…God that day he prayed he would never see was happening…
"Reid, get out of the way!" Hotch yelled, trying to pull him away.
"No, don't hurt them, we have to finish this, you don't understand!"
"The hell are you talking about?! Just come, you're safe…" Morgan pressed him while Prentiss was going to untie Hankle, JJ was keeping her gun pointed at him and Gideon had Sam under his threat.
"He is not human right now!" Reid yelled in a desperate attempt panic submerging him. He knew they wouldn't believe him, but he had to try! "We have to perform this…Prentiss, don't!"
John and Sam also tried to stop her but Hotch caught their dad and Sam was restrained Gideon while Morgan was blocking Reid.
"Reid, you're under Stockholm Syndrom…"
"No, I'm not! Don't release him!"
"Don't take him away from the circle," Dean yelled, but to no avail.
While JJ was still threatening Hankle, Prentiss handcuffed him and helped him to walk away.
"Don't do that!" Sam yelled, "I beg you!"
But as soon as Tobias had stepped out from the circle, his body felt completely limp and John knew it meant the demon left, they didn't always make that black smoke when they weren't forced out of the body.
It's somewhere else…Did it go back to Hell?
He felt a cuff being locked around one of his wrists. Turning toward Hotch who was holding him, John suddenly saw something: a glimmer of mischief in his eyes. It wasn't the hard, serious look anymore that the man had thrown at him when he had grabbed him first. No, instead the ghost of a grin appeared on the agent's face, and John immediately understood. In a swift move, he tore one of his arms away before his captor could fully handcuff him and almost threw himself at the bottle of holy water.
"What the…"
Gideon and Emily immediately rushed toward them, and John only had the time to splash the man with the liquid. Just as Emily grabbed him, she froze as she heard and saw something which filled her with terror.
Hotch just growled, an animalistic growl and his eyes were now pitch black.
She completely forgot John for a second, all she could see was this: Hotch full black, inhuman eyes were filled with hatred. For the very first time, she was afraid of the man she loved.*
At her side Gideon took an unconscious step away from this, and everyone in the room was still for a short instant.
John immediately took the occasion to throw more water at him, making the possessed man roar in pain and Reid released himself from Morgan's hold to rush toward Aaron, seizing the salt. But before he or John could do anything, the demon waved his arm at them, sending them fly back violently, and everyone else in the room was thrown on the ground as well. The demon was panting, hard, obviously exhausted.
"Oh, you son of a bitch! I don't care, I'll make you pay!"
Sam tried to focus to stop it, but the demon disappeared immediately, leaving an empty spot where the possessed Hotch stood a second ago. Still handcuffed, Sam and Dean looked at each other, knowing they just failed, as for Spencer, he stood on shaky legs and looked at all his teammates: they were all in shock.
"Wha…What…" Morgan tried to utter.
"A demon…It was a demon," Spencer declared loudly to wake everyone up.
As he just said those words, they heard police sirens, and Spencer immediately looked at Dean whose distressed look rushed him to act. He helped Gideon to stand.
"Please, listen, you must give them Hankle, tell them everything is fine! Tell them Sam and I are alright, if we want to get Hotch back, you have to listen to me!"
For the very first time, Gideon was distressed and listening to Reid as if he was the older one. He turned to everyone:
"Everyone, if we want to get Hotch back, they can't know anything! Let Dean and John hide, just tell them we arrested Hankle, don't say anything about what just happened!"
"He is a killer, Reid…" Morgan intervened almost automatically
"He is not, please, hurry up! Listen to me!"
"Do as he says," Prentiss snapped. "Just do it!"
He looked at them with pleading eyes: they had to listen, otherwise, the demon would win. Gideon looked by the window and grabbed Hankle who was still handcuffed and just waking up.
I know it's short but that kind of scene is always a bit hard to plan for me. Next chapter should come sooner, promise!
Don't hesitate to review!
