Hey everyone, TheKingHHH100 here FINALLY back with another chapter for this story! I wanted to update before the end of the month, but this literarily took FOREVER to write and I had more computer problems along the way, so yeah… also it got longer and longer the more I wrote, so I think we have a new record for LONGEST chapter in this fic! Yay!
I'll keep it short since this is already a long one, LOL. I'm taking a short break from this fic due to being too burn out after writing all of this, and since I don't want to be writing the next few chapter like that since they'll be pretty important to this story. Don't worry, it won't be too long, but probably don't expect an update next month.
Anyways, on to the story!
Chapter 8: Luck of the Ed
Here we can see a museum exhibition full of ancient objects and old looking stuff, including a tribal mask that oddly had a pair of moving eyes seemingly alive behind it. "ED! Stop fooling around!" a shrieking voice angrily called and everyone's favorite lovable oaf stepped from behind the mask as his bratty sister Sarah shouted at him. Ed rushed back to a group that consisted of his aforementioned sister, her friend Jimmy and of course the other two Eds, Eddy and Double D, as well as some other people who were on the guided tour.
"Coming, oh lovable sister of mine!" Ed happily sang as he rejoined them.
Sarah was looking quite impatient and annoyed that her dorky brother was embarrassing her in front of other people. "Just behave for once, you doofus!"
On the other hand, Double D was quite content with having convince his friends to come to the re-opening of Peach Creek's Museum of Natural History, looking joyous and excited at every exhibition surrounding them even if they were in a witchcraft gallery rather than the usual more scientific exhibitions he preferred. Still, he did like the historic aspect of it. In contrast to that, Eddy looked bored out of his mind. "Tell me again, Sockhead, just why did we come to a museum? And with SARAH and her fluffy pet of all people?" he questioned.
"Well Eddy, Ed's parents told him he had to take care of his little sister for the day, and naturally Jimmy was going to come wherever she went" Double D explained. "As for us coming to the museum, I thought it would be an enriching experience we could use to learn during this summer break from our usual educational activities, and a nice break from our… other activities" he said in a lower tone. "Besides, I think we owed the museum a paid visit, since our last one was quite counterproductive to it…" he narrowed his eyes at his friend.
"What? It's not my fault that crazy Animo guy wanted to bring a dinosaur back to life!" Eddy retorted, trying to keep his usual loud tone down to avoid any peeping ears. It was true that since their encounter with Clancy and him recovering from his cold there hadn't been much going on, the usual thief or robber were less and less frequent since the alien heroes would seemingly pop out of nowhere to stop them, and there hadn't been any villains as of late. Eddy had made sure to keep a low profile and leave no traces behind ever since Mister I-love-bugs had found them out, luckily that crazy hobo was kept locked down.
"What are you guys talking about?" Jimmy asked as he walked near them.
Both Eds quickly broke their conversation as they looked at each other and then away, responding in unison. "Uhhhh, nothing…"
Jimmy raised an eyebrow curiously, wondering if the Eds were planning one of their big scams they were famous for. However, he had to admit they'd been rather wonderfully quiet of them as long as summer began. Double D decided to separate in order not to raise more suspicion, quickly walking to the front of the group as the guided tour continued.
"...And behind this impenetrable glass is the recently discovered, and only known existing copy of the 'Archamada Book of Spells'" the tour guide, an old woman wearing glasses, explained as the group stopped in front of a glass showcase that had an ancient looking book inside.
"It contains ancient witchcraft and rituals from the later sixteen hundreds" Double D explained at the same time the tour guide did, causing the woman to look at him sternly.
"Maybe you should work here, dear…" the woman remarked snidely.
"Why thanks ma'am, that would be a dream come true indeed" the smart boy replied with excitement, his chivalrous ways making him completely miss the point of what the old lady was telling him. The woman just rolled her eyes and walked past them to the next exhibition.
"Don't let mummy-face get to you, Sockhead. She's probably older than that spell book" Eddy muttered as he did a mummy pose, complete with a facial expression that imitated one in their tomb, while Ed laughed at his friend's joke.
"Well, I think you're really smart Double D, and also soooo cute~" Sarah told him in a daydream voice as she put her hands together, while Jimmy folded his arms and narrowed his eyes with jealousy. She felt so love struck, like her feet were quite literary floating in the air.
"Uhhh, thank you Sarah… emm… if you excuse me, I think I've got to go to the bath-" Double D tried to flee away, but his feet were actually floating in the air, and so were everyone's else as they were lifted to the ceiling, seemingly by some sort of invisible force.
"Sarah!" Jimmy cried in panic.
"Jimmy! What's happening?!" Sarah questioned as she was lifted up in the air like everyone in the room.
"Something tells me this isn't on the tour!" Eddy exclaimed while hovering over.
"I'm afraid this isn't an usual occurrence, my friends!" Double D stated as he was also pinned to the ceiling.
"I'm like a bird!" Ed sang as he flailed his arms around while floating, imitating the movement of a bird's wings. "This one's for you, Nestor Jr!"
Suddenly, a puff of red smoke traveled through the skylight window and reached the book of spells, the red mist turning into a cloud that after fading away revealed a man standing in the middle of it. The man, having appear out of nowhere and seemingly magically, had pale, almost greyish, skin with black symbols tattooed on his shoulders and a strange attire like that of a tribal or a nomad. His face was painted white and black, resembling a skull. He wore a red and black robe with a hood, black pants that were torn beyond his knees, and black arm guards and long socks that didn't cover his heels or toes. He also had a wooden staff with a bird's head, and a necklace with some strange charms that had runes on it.
"The Archamada book of Spells..." the man muttered as he stood in front of the showcase containing said book. "All of its power shall soon be mine!" he exclaimed before repeating some unintelligible words. "Fah-Cah-Me-Doof!" then the runes on the second right-most charm glowed a bright yellow color, activating as he spoke, and the glass encasement around the book shattered, the book levitating off the podium and into his hands.
"It's a bit early for Halloween…" Eddy mumbled as he dialed up his watch. "…but it's a quarter to hero tim-" he was about to press the core down but realized everyone was around him. If he were to transform now, lots of people could find about his secret identity, including Sarah and Jimmy who knew him. He needed a distraction in order to transform… that came when the mysterious man turned around and looked up at everyone on the ceiling, deciding to stop whatever was pinning them to the ceiling and make everyone fall to the floor just because, he didn't want any witnesses after all.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!" everyone shouted in terror as they plummet towards the ground. Eddy used that moment to press down the core and transform, since everyone's eyes were either closed or fixated on the upcoming hard landing and didn't notice the sudden bright green light that flashed around them, nor did they notice one particular boy disappearing and a strange ghost-like figure appearing out of nowhere.
Fortunately, Ghostfreak was capable of hovering in the air and thus stop his own fall, followed by him pulling tentacles out of the black line on his skin and using them to grab everyone before they hit the ground, carefully depositing them on the floor. Almost everyone, sans Ed and Double D, immediately started to rush out of there after being deposited, scared of both the skeleton-looking man as well as the one-eyed ghost figure.
"Ghosts! Skeletons! My nightmare has come true, Sarah! Jimmy exclaimed as he and Sarah fled the scene.
"Ah! Ghostfreak!" Ed shouted when he opened his eyes and saw the ghostly alien floating close to him.
"We've got no time for your phantasm-phobia, Lumpy! Make sure everyone gets out, I'll take care of Jack Skellington!" Ghostfreak instructed as he flew to face the hooded man.
"Be careful, you don't know what tricks he's got up his sleeve!" Double D tried to warn his friend.
"Dude, you want a book? Try the library!" Ghostfreak called over as he hovered in front of the mystery man, who responded by muttering more gibberish as another one of his charms activated.
"Bethi-Mordor-Natta!" the man exclaimed as he pointed his weird staff at Ghostfreak, a streak of fire suddenly erupting out of it, though the ghost-alien managed to turn intangible just on time and the flames went through him, only to set a tapestry hang on the wall on fire.
"Uh oh! Not good!" Ghostfreak exclaimed as he flew over and took off the tapestry, extinguishing the flames to avoid a fire inside the museum. The man then fired out a barrage of red crystal shards from his staff, though the ghost-like alien managed to avoid them by disappearing, turning invisible and trying to sneak behind the seemingly magic man. However, another one of the charms on his necklace glowed and the wizard turned around, firing a beam of light from his staff that not only made Ghostfreak visible but also seemed to hurt him as he felt his skin burning due to the blinding light. "AAAAAGGHHHHH!" the ghost cried as he fell to the ground, too weak to continue fighting while the sorcerer continued to shoot light at him.
"This isn't good! Ed, we have to do something!" Double D said, he and Ed stayed to look at the scene and try to assist their friend in any way possible.
"I've got this!" Ed exclaimed as he grabbed a near trashcan and threw it at the magician, hitting him on the back.
"I really wish you hadn't…" Double D muttered as the man turned around, looking quite angry as they got his attention. The magician squinted and shot them an angry glare that somehow managed to push the two boys and set them flying across the room, like some sort of invisible force. Speaking of invisible, Ghostfreak had managed to recover with the distraction and turned invisible once again, taking advantage of his opponent lowering his guard and throwing the charred tapestry over his head, rendering the magician temporarily blind. As he struggled to take off the tapestry, Ghostfreak snuck behind him and inside his body, seemingly gaining possession of the man's movements and making him bump all over the room, with his central charm falling over after he crashed into display cabinets. Ghostfreak then made the man lose consciousness somehow as he fainted onto the ground while the alien got out of his body.
"Nice job, Eddy!" Double D congratulated his friend as they approached him.
"Just doing what I need to do and keeping it low-key, Sockhead" the ghost-like alien assured.
Ed then noticed the charm on the ground and picked it up, however before he could show it to his two friends, sirens could be heard outside.
"Seems like the police is already here, you two get out before they see you, I'll do like Houdini here and disappear!" Ghostfreak instructed as he flew over and through the roof, vanishing in an instant. The two remaining Eds took their leave through the emergency doors, not realizing a certain little sister had snuck back to the museum when she saw them return, and although she hadn't heard their conversation, Sarah was now wondering just why were the two boys talking with the ghost, and where the heck Eddy went?
Afterwards, the police and emergency arrived on the scene. Luckily no one was injured, well apart from the mysterious magician, who was rendered unconscious by Ghostfreak and later taken by the EMTs in an ambulance, since he seemed to be on some sort of comma and didn't wake up.
Both Ed and Double D, and unbeknownst to them Sarah as well, had managed to get out before the police entered and mix with the other people rescued. Eddy met with them after returning to his human self, but when he returned Sarah confronted him about where he'd gone. Eddy quickly lied, saying he got separated from his other two Eds amongst the sea of people when fleeing and had gone to hide at an alley. Sarah partially bought it, since she knew him for a coward, however she still suspected something was up after seeing the other Eds talking with that ghost. She knew very well the two didn't act without their leader, but she decided to keep this information to herself for now since they probably wouldn't tell her the truth anyway. She would have to keep an eye on them in case they were planning something though.
They all then returned to their respective homes, with their parents very worried after hearing their kids had been caught in the incident, though since none of them were hurt, everything was fine and well, except for Jimmy's parents who were all freaked out for the safety of their kid.
Later on and after everything had calmed down, the Eds were at Ed's room, their unofficial base of operations, recalling the events of the day.
"Did you guys see me when I entered that guy's body? I made him bump all over the place! Boom! K-pow! Right on the kister!" Eddy retaled while doing noises and exaggerating moves, trying to imitate the fight from early on.
"Indeed we saw it. We were there, remember Eddy?" Double D responded, but Eddy ignored him and keep retelling the events.
"Eddy, Eddy is the man! If he can't beat 'em nobody can!" Ed cheered his friend. Double D rolled his eyes at the antics.
"You got that right, Lumpy! And then I made him faint just like that!" Eddy exclaimed with a snap of his fingers.
"Which makes me wonder why don't you do that more often? I mean if Ghostfreak has that type of abilities, it would be a really easy way to subdue the bad guys" Double D questioned.
Eddy's expression suddenly turned more serious, losing some of his confidence. "It's not that easy… you see, Ghostfreak is not like any of my other aliens… whenever I turn into him, it's like turning into someone different, I mean of course I already do that whenever I'm going alien, but still… it's hard to explain" he stated.
"Hey guys!" Ed interrupted as he opened his jacket and took the charm he'd picked up at the museum out of his pocket. "Look, I found a game token!" he said as he showed the charm to his friends.
"Um, Ed… I think that is one of the strange amulet this evildoer was using" Double D said upon a close inspection. "The source of his powers perhaps?" he wondered.
"Yeah, I think I saw it glow when I was fighting him, maybe that thing let him do weird things like shooting fire and all that" Eddy reasoned.
"Uh! Uh! Let me try it!" Ed exclaimed as he took the charm and pressed it with the palm of his hand, focusing on shooting fire out of his mouth like a dragon, or one of the fire-lizards from his comic, 'Pocket Monsters Adventures', but nothing happened. "Uhhh… I think it's broken" he lamented.
"I don't think it's broken, Ed" Double D responded. "We just don't know how to use it, perhaps there are certain requirements or conditions that have to be taken upon to make it work effectively" he explained.
Ed just looked at him in a blank stare, confused at the amount of words his friend just threw at him, only one response coming to his mind. "…Buttered toast!"
"Why do I even bother…" Double D muttered as he face-palmed mentally.
"Hey numbskull, better be careful with that thing, if you suddenly shoot flames in doors you'll end up burning your house down!" Eddy told him.
"Pretty much like when Eddy created a fire in the forest when he found the watch" Double D recalled.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean, Sockhead?" Eddy angrily questioned.
"Can I keep it guys? Please, please, please, pretty please!" Ed begged as he did some puppy eyes while holding the charm.
"Well, I suppose it won't hurt to keep it amongst our inventory…" Double D said as he took a box from out of Ed's closet, among piles of comic books and junk. The box contained the remains of Dr. Animo's Transmodulator and Rolf's harpoon from when they were trying to fish the Krakken, as well as photos taken from their vacations at Sparksville and other things they've picked from their past adventures this summer.
"Why does Lumpy get to keep all this stuff anyways?" Eddy questioned.
"Think Eddy, Ed's room is the last place someone would come looking for any of these things with how… messy it is. And if someone happen to come across it, they would dismiss it as more of Ed's Sci-Fi items" Double D explained while putting the box over a table. "Besides, why not let Ed keep it? You already got your watch, remember?"
Eddy looked at his watch and thought about it, realizing his friend was right. "Ugh, fine" he begrudgingly admitted while crossing his arms.
"Yay! My room is the cat's tuxedo, guys. Right Nestor Jr?" Ed asked his pet bird, who was perched on a trapeze hang on the roof over Ed's bed. Nestor Jr chirped in response.
Suddenly the door was smacked open, scaring off the bird who flew out of the trapeze as Sarah stormed into the room. "ED! Mom says it's dinner time and to kiss your stupid friends goodbye!"
"Geez Lumpy, too bad we can't stay for the 'lovely' family dinner, though this whole ordeal did make me hungry" Eddy sarcastically commented as he walked past Sarah, who stuck her tongue at him. Then Double D walked past her.
"Bye Double D~" she sang happily.
"Uh, um, see you later Sarah!" Double D nervously saluted before rushing upstairs.
Sarah sighed in a daydream tone while smiling, before being rudely awaken by her brother hugging and lifting her up. "Baby sister!" Ed happily exclaimed, however he was elbowed in the ribs and thrown over the stairs by an angry Sarah.
"Just get to the dinner table, you doofus! I'm hungry!" she was about to follow when she noticed the box over Ed' table. 'Umm, what's this?' she thought as she looked back, remembering what she'd seen earlier at the museum. She decided that with Ed gone now was the perfect time to sneak up and investigate if they were doing something fishy. She tried to take a look inside, only for Nestor Jr. to fly on top of the box and to chirp aggressively at Sarah, showing off his wings.
"That ain't gonna work, so move over, Tweety!" Sarah said as she manages to shoo off the bird, which retreated in his spot, and looked at her with a displeased look. She didn't hate the bird, but didn't like it either. And she was jealous of the fact that her brother was allowed to have a pet and she didn't! Only because her parents said that 'It would help him to become responsible in the future' and 'One pet is enough in the house'. She tried at first to convince the bird to switch sides to her and Jimmy, bringing it food, trying to play with it, getting it in her room, but he would ALWAYS return and prefer her brother over her.
Looking inside the box, she saw many weird things, probably more of her brother's Sci-Fi junk, as well as some photos the Eds had taken of themselves. Then, something caught her attention and she held it up in her hand. It seemed like some sort of weird stone… thing. It somehow looked familiar, like she'd seen it somewhere before, but she couldn't quite put her finger on where it'd been…
Suddenly a thought crossed her mind: had Ed stolen whatever this was from the museum? Maybe that'd been the reason he and Double D went back in… no that couldn't be. Sure, the Eds did their scams and stupid things, but they never resorted to thievery before, and Double D would never be one to go so low. However, she knew that he and her brother were easily manipulated by that fathead Eddy, that's why they usually took place in the scams they did, and that jerk was desperate for money more than anything else…
Then again, what about that ghost that appeared at the museum? If it was one of those alien heroes from the news, surely it would have stopped the Eds from stealing this thing. Had they convinced it to let them keep it? Was it actually friends with them? Maybe one of Double D inventions? And where had Eddy gone during that? She did saw them talking with it and Eddy was nowhere to be seen, and she knew he wasn't telling the truth when he said where he'd gone…
That was it! Eddy was the ghost! It probably was only a costume or something, though it looked so real… and how did Eddy manage to levitate and do all those other things? Then her mind went back to when Double D had made some weird monster costume for her brother and the idiot had gone on a crazy rampage, leaving her and her friends all stuck to his wall. Boy, only remembering that was enough to want to pummel him once again… but that costume did look real, to cut the genius Edd some credit. Maybe he'd done something similar for Eddy, all part of another elaborated scam of his…
But what about that other guy in the hood? He did look convincingly enough like a villain, and he also was apparently capable of flying and shooting flames and weird things like that… was he in cahoots with the Eds? Another friend of theirs? Maybe the actual mastermind behind all this? Or perhaps even a robot made by Double D to help them in their mischief… no, scratch that. That guy looked very real, so it had to at least be someone in a costume. But that fight and effects looked so real, how had they managed to do all that? The Eds had never been so convincing in their scams, so it did make sense that this goon had recruited them in order to do a bigger score…
However, she didn't have any proof of this, at least not yet, and she knew confronting her brother about it wouldn't give her anything, even if she managed to make him say something coherent out of it. She decided to keep this stone and not show it to her parents, or the authorities for that matter, just yet. Who knows? Maybe she could use it to bribe her brother at some point…
Meanwhile:
Hex woke up inside the ambulance, unsure of what had exactly transpired. His last collection of events was at the museum, where he'd tried to get the Archamada Book of Spells, then fighting that ghost creature before something fell on top of him and then everything was dark. The Charm of Resurrection had effectively revived him after being rendered unconscious, judging by the sheer look of surprise on the EMT's face who was checking his vital signs, and also healed all and any injuries suffered in battle. He activated another one of his charms and the backdoors of the ambulance were blown off, him levitating out of it.
"My destiny will be fulfilled…" he muttered as he floated away, going back for what was rightfully his, and no one was going to stop him this time.
Later on:
Here we see Ed and Sarah sat at the dinner table with their parents also there. Ed's and Sarah's mom closely resembles Sarah but has dirty blonde hair tied into a bun, paler skin, and wears a blue housedress with an apron. Their father more closely resembles Ed with yellow skin, red hair and a unibrow, but he also has a beard that connects to his hair. He wears a white polo shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. They're all having a normal dinner (at least as normal as you can get with Ed, who's loudly munching his food), eating crawfish.
"-Sigh- Ed, PLEASE behave at the table, at least once would be nice" Ed's mom asked her son, who toned it down, but still ate like a caveman or something. Thank goodness for Sarah being more civilized.
"Sorry Mom" Ed said with his mouth full.
"Finish your food before you speak, son" his father told him, he loved his boy, but he swore he still ate like a baby, a big, dense, disordered, really good for a boxing career if his wife would have allowed him, baby. "Try to have some manners, like this little Pumpkin over here." He then ruffled his little angel's hair, God bless her for being such a 'gift' to him.
"Thanks Daddy" Sarah said with a giggle and a 'precious child' voice, and then looked at her older brother, returning to her usual demeanor. "Giant pig."
Sarah looked at the plates on the table and realized there was only one crawfish left, then looked back at her brother who continued to munch as much food as he could. "I've been counting, Ed. You've had eleven craw-fish to my nine!" she complained.
"Time to make it a dozen!" Ed exclaimed obliviously as he reached for the last crawfish. Sarah scowled at this before smacking the fork out of her brother's hand as he was going for the crawfish. Unbeknownst to them and unseen by anyone, the charm inside Sarah's pocket begin to glow at the same time she did this, just like it had done at the museum while being worn by Hex. Then a strange sequence of events followed, as the fork was sent flying on to the kitchen sink, where it hit the handle with enough force to turn it on at full pressure, and courtesy to the kitchen hose that was left attached and aimed directly at Ed, spraying him at full force out of his chair and into the living room.
His mother went to check on him while his dad wrestled with the hose for a good time before turning the sink off. All the while Sarah was unfazed by all of this, not even a drop of water touched her. "Don't think so, big brother" Sarah said with a smug look as she took the last crawfish, enjoying its delicious taste.
Meanwhile:
We go back to Peach Creek's Museum of Natural History, which had undergone repairmen after the Eds' fight with Dr. Animo that had destroyed a big part of it. However, there's a huge hole in the repaired part of the museum once again, as Hex had blown it up to enter. Inside, everything at the witchcraft section was floating in the air, as Hex used his telekinetic powers to throw around the furniture while searching after the book.
"Oh man, just when the museum was getting repaired…" the security guard muttered as he floated upside down in the air, victim of Hex's magic.
Speaking of the magician, he was sorting through all of the books looking for the Archamada Book of Spells. Unable to find it, he tossed the books and the table over, before levitating the guard towards him, bringing him face to upside face. "The Archamada Book of Spells" he demanded.
"T-They locked it in the vault!" the guard pointed at a giant safe, knowing full well there was no point in denying this freak. It may cost him his job, but he could turn him into a frog or something far worse for all he knew. Hex used his powers to clear his path from all objects flying in his way to the vault, the poor guard included. He then recited another unintelligible incantation as the vault bursted open, its metal door magically torn apart from its hinges. Hex extended his hand and the book came flying out, stopping in front of him and opening at his signal.
"Yes, soon my power will know no limits!" the sorcerer declared as he tried to absorb the book's power, a yellow streak of energy coming out of it and enveloping him in an aura, but whatever he was trying to do failed as the aura soon faded away. Hex opened his eyes as he didn't feel any change or increase in his powers. He looked at his necklace and realized what went wrong. "One charm is missing!" he exclaimed angrily as he noticed one of his emblems was gone. He was so close to get infinite power! Just what could possible had happen to his center charm? He tried to remember the events of the day. He was sure he had all the charms with him when he'd first come to claim the book, but then…
"Of Course! The battle with that ghost creature!" Hex realized. He'd been very unlucky that one of those supposed superheroes everyone was talking about had appeared to stop him just when he was about to get the book, which was very ironical considering the abilities that certain charm should give him… But he was wearing the charm when battling that creature, it probably had fallen off during the fight, or maybe the ghost stole it after knocking him out. Dang it! He'd come so far for this! But he wouldn't be denied, not now… he would search up and down in all places until he found whoever had taken what was his, and he would make sure whoever stood in his way would pay the price…
The Next Day:
Sarah woke up in her bedroom, having slept like a baby, though no one better call her that unless they want to be pummeled to a pulp. She stretched and let out a light yawn as she got off bed, glancing through her window. It was a beautiful sunny day outside, and she was planning on spending it playing with Jimmy. As she changed to her regular day clothes, she felt something inside her pants pocket, taking it out and realizing it's the stone she took from Ed's room last night.
She still wondered if her brother and his friends had actually stole it from the museum. If that was the case, she probably should report it to the authorities, though she still didn't have proof of that being the case, and even so a small, VERY small part of her actually felt a bit guilty of snitching on him (and Double D for that matter) like that. It wasn't the usual, almost innocent scamming they would always attempt, and almost always fail, to do. This could get them into real trouble, not the type of trouble one would get with their parents, but actual BIG trouble. She wasn't sure what to do, maybe Jimmy could help her decide?
As she thought on what to make of the situation, she glanced at the stone in her hand. It was a really beautiful thing, not like a diamond nor anything but rather like an ancient relic, and even though she didn't understand what the symbols on it meant, she still felt a weird attraction to it. She decided that it would make a nice accessory for her to wear, at least for the time being until she decided on what to do, as she took a thread from the items over her dresser and turned the charm into a necklace.
Exiting her room, she was lucky to get be the first to the bathroom, as it took FOREVER for her mom to get ready, while her dad took about 20 minutes, but still was too long for her, thankfully Ed had his own bathroom, and didn't have to ruin the one upstairs like he did his, just the thought of it made her shiver in disgust. When she got to the kitchen, she saw Ed with the last box of Chunky Puffs! But soon after he got it, he tripped on his own feet and the box flew and landed on her hands, for her to enjoy her breakfast, while Ed had to eat that old oatmeal laying around the shelfs for god knows how long, that tasted like a cardboard box…mainly because he ate the whole box.
After breakfast and while walking down the lane to Jimmy's house, Sarah suddenly heard a girly shriek of terror she instantly recognized. "Jimmy!" she exclaimed after hearing her friend's cry for help. She rushed towards where she heard the shriek, peeking over the wooden fence to see what was going on: The Kanker Sisters had grabbed Jimmy out of his tricycle, with Lee holding him by the back of his shirt while the poor boy tried to run away, screaming in terror as the three wicked sisters laughed.
"Leave me alone! You bullies! No! You're stretching my top!" Jimmy desperately cried.
"Hey, May! Got that bug?" Marie asked her younger sister.
"You bet!" May replied as she got a caterpillar out of her pocket, a sinister idea rushing through her mind. "Let's make him eat it!"
"Eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!" the Kankers started to repeat over and over as May approached Jimmy with the bug in her hand, intending to make the delicate boy actually swallow it and see how long it takes for him to puke.
"Oh no! I got to do something!" Sarah said to herself as she got off the fence to avoid being seen by the Kankers, intending to use the element of surprise to save her friend, but how could she possibly do so? She knew better than to try and fight all three Kankers by herself, after all they were famous for being the toughest and strongest around the Cul-de-sac, the only one who maybe could match them in strength was her brother, but even if that good-for-nothing oaf was around he would be too scared of them to do anything. Geez, she had to think of something, and quick! She looked down at the stone on her necklace, then at a nearby trashcan with garbage bags next to it, coming up with a plan.
Back at the lane, the Kankers were about to make Jimmy eat the caterpillar, the boy trying in vain to cover his mouth with his hands, only for Marie to reach around and move his retainer so that it holds Jimmy's mouth open. "Eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!" the Kankers continued to repeat mischievously, not noticing the girl standing over the fence with a giant garbage bag that had a butterfly net tied to it.
"Here I come, Jimmy!" Sarah heroically exclaimed as she leapt over, the charm on her necklace glowing as she did so, landing over May and putting the bag on her head and making her throw the caterpillar away.
"Hey! What the-!" May protested as she flailed around aimlessly, trying to get the smaller girl off her, as well as the bag on her head.
"Leave my sister alone!" Lee demanded as she caught Sarah and threw her onto some trashcans, however Sarah's amulet glowed again as she landed and knocked over one of the trashcans that was sent rolling towards the Kankers, knocking Lee down as May accidentally hit Marie while still being blinded by the bag on her head. With the Kankers distracted, Jimmy tried to make a run for it, only to have the caterpillar May drop cross his way, the frail boy walking backwards scared and accidentally tipping his tricycle, which proceeded to run over the still bagged May, knocking her out.
Sarah got up groggily, until she realized Lee was also up and angrily staring at her. "You brat! You're going to pay for messing with us!" the eldest Kanker yelled as she bull charged at Sarah, who's amulet glowed once again just as she moved out of the way, right on time as Lee went past her and slipped over a banana peel, flying into a trashcan that fell over and rolled down the lane with Lee inside.
"Sarah!" Jimmy exclaimed he rushed to his friend.
"Jimmy!" Sarah did the same thing and two embraced in a hug, glad to be safe.
"That was awesome, Sarah! You beat the Kankers all by yourself!" Jimmy congratulated.
"Me? Just lucky I guess…" Sarah responded, having just realize what she'd managed to do.
"Seems like you run out of luck to me!" a voice yelled and the two turned around to see Marie, the remaining Kanker, standing in front of them menacingly. "You can't get rid of me that easily. I admit you got some guts girl, but no one's hurting on my sisters but me. I'm going to enjoy beating the tar out of you…" the blue-haired girl said, with madness and frustration as she walked up towards them while cracking her knuckles. The two kids gulped in fear and started to walk backwards, with Sarah closing her eyes and holding her amulet as their backs hit the wooden fence, however the amulet glowed as she did so and just as Marie got in front of them, a plant pot that seemed to be on top of the fence fell right on the Kanker's head, knocking her out as well. The two kids just looked at the scene in awe with their mouths open, not believing what happened and the amount of luck they just had…
Then, Sarah looked at her amulet and caught sight of it glowing again. "Uh oh! Cool! This really is a lucky charm!" she realized.
Jimmy looked at her in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I don't know why, but every time it glows, everything just goes my way!" Sarah exclaimed happily as she flashed the charm on her necklace.
"You sure?" Jimmy asked with a raised eyebrow, to which Sarah just narrowed her eyes and extended her hand towards the unconscious Kankers on the ground. "…true" he acknowledged. "How did you get it anyways?"
"I got it from my brother's room…" Sarah responded, then she looked a bit hesitant as she added "I think he may have stolen it from the museum."
Jimmy gasped in surprise at hearing this. "What? Are you sure? I know the Eds always do their scamming thing, but stealing? That's low even for them…"
Sarah nodded her head. "I know, that's why I'm not sure they did, but I know Eddy was lying when he said he was hiding. Remember when we got separated there?"
"Yes, we were running from the fight between that ghost and the spooky scary skeleton man" Jimmy recalled.
"Well, I was looking for you when I saw my brother and Double D going back to the museum, so I snuck up behind them and saw them talking with the ghost... I think it may have been Eddy in a costume, and the whole fight may have been a staged distraction so they could steal this thing" Sarah explained.
"Really? But it looked so real! And what about that other man in the hood?" Jimmy questioned, shaking with terror at the thought of both the ghost and the man who looked like a skeleton come to life.
"Maybe he's a friend of the Eds, or some thug working with them, I don't know yet, that's why I haven't say anything" Sarah responded. "Should I tell the police, Jimmy?" she asked with a concerned and indecisive tone.
Her friend was unsure what to tell. On one hand, the Eds were a no good couple of meanies who were always trying to scam them out of their money, he wouldn't mind them receiving a punishment for that, but on the other hand, would they really be capable of such treachery? I mean, tricking kids to get their cash is a total different thing than stealing from a museum, and one would assume that they weren't the type of person to do that, at least he was sure Ed and Double D wouldn't…
And then there was this whole lucky charm thing, was it really magic like his friend claim? And if so, what was it capable of? Sarah had beaten all three Kankers by herself… "Geez Sarah, I don't know" he finally admitted, before adding, "If you tell the police about it with the charm in your hands, they may not go after the Eds but you instead, and they may take it as evidence or something… who knows what could happen if it fell on the wrong hands?" he reasoned.
Sarah looked at the amulet in her necklace and thought about what Jimmy just told her. He was right, the police would probably take her charm and she would never see it again, and she was just discovering the fun of it! She then glanced at the unconscious bodies of the two remaining Kankers on the ground. If she had been able to do this, who knows what else she could do with this thing? But first, she had to make sure it's actually magic and not just some kind of weird coincidences… "You're right, Jimmy. We should keep it away from the Eds and any other baddies around, and I did save you from the Kankers, right? Who knows what else I could do with it…" she stated as she held the charm in her hands, "But first we need to test if it really is magic."
"What do you have in mind?" Jimmy asked.
Sarah thought of ways of proving the charm's power, before an idea came to her mind and her lips curled into a devilish grin. "Something funny… let's go!" she replied as she yanked Jimmy by his sleeve and the two rushed away, leaving the knocked out Kankers behind on the lane.
Later on:
Here we see the Eds at Mr. Smoothie, taking a break from their usual crime fighting to chill out and eat some food.
"Wait, so all they have to do to get stronger is to be angry and yell their lungs out for a long time?" Eddy asked Ed with a raised brow.
"Yep, and it's awesome! The characters are awesome, the story is awesome, the show is AWESOME!" Ed said with excitement as he talked about his new favorite show, the old one being about vampires, buff men and punching ghosts, now in second place. "You guys have to watch it with me, the Marathon is coming next week!"
"Sure sounds interesting, Ed" Double D said, while not really into these types of shows, he was interested in the whole scientific aspect of it.
"Hey flathead~!" Sarah called out, getting the Eds' attention. She was hiding her necklace charm under her shirt in case the Eds would see it and recognize it.
"Not this again! What do you two twerps want this time?" Eddy angrily exclaimed as Sarah and Jimmy approached their table.
"Well, fathead" Sarah smirked as Eddy shot her an angry glare, "We want to make another bet with you" she said confidently as Jimmy covered his mouth, trying not to laugh hard.
"I'm having some serious deja vu vibes…" Double D muttered.
"Gesundheit!" Ed exclaimed as he continued to munch on his fries.
"Forget it Sarah, I'm not stupid enough to fall for that twice! You just want to poke fun of me and make me look like a chump!" Eddy said, remembering very well where his last 'bet' with these two had gotten him.
"If you say so, but just to clarify: I'll be the one doing the forfeit this time, so you see there's no catch" Sarah explained.
Eddy raised an eyebrow with curiosity at this. "Oh, really? What are you betting exactly?"
"We'll bet a quarter each plus a jawbreaker" Jimmy stated.
Eddy's interest peaked at hearing this, however he tried to remain calm, remembering very well what happened last time due to him getting too excited and confident. "And what would the bet be?" he cautiously asked.
Sarah and Jimmy smiled at each other as the boy took a basketball from behind him. "I bet you I can score a three-pointer backwards with my eyes closed" she challenged.
Eddy's eyes widened and his jaw almost dropped to the ground. Was she for real? There's no way she could do it!
"Haha! Jokes on you, brat! There's no way you can do that, you don't even play basketball!" he laughed.
"Well, if you're so sure, do you accept my bet?" Sarah asked, remaining oddly calm at Eddy's insults.
"You BET!" he quipped.
"Eddy, I'm not sure about this, remember what happened last time?" Double D warned.
"Chill Sockhead, it's not like last time. I don't have to do anything now, and there's no way bash-mouth here can do it! It's easy cash, baby!" Eddy exclaimed, secure on his victory.
"Yay! More chili for Ed!" Ed said with a mouth full of chili fries.
"We'll see about that, let's go to the playground!" Sarah declared as the two marched to the place, with Eddy following behind grinning and rubbing his hands frenetically, while Double D and Ed decided to come as well.
"I've got a weird feeling about this, Ed" Double D commented.
"My mom says not to pick my belly button" Ed simply replied.
At the Playground:
Sarah stood in front of the basketball hoop, with Jimmy and the Eds watching her.
"Give it up, brat! There's no way you can do it!" Eddy laughed.
"Shut up, fishface! You're distracting me!" Sarah exclaimed.
"Ooooh! Sorry, Michael Jordan. Give it your best shot!" he mocked. As Eddy taunted her, Sarah closed her eyes and turned back, throwing the basketball backwards with all her might, though she threw it too far and the ball went past the hoop, not even hitting the basket. "Ha! See! I told you she couldn't do it!" Eddy celebrated in victory.
However unbeknownst to them, the charm under Sarah's shirt glowed and the ball hit a tree, bouncing back and towards the swings, hitting one of them and swinging back at the merry-go-round, spinning on it before flying into Eddy's face just as he asked, "Now, where's my ca-?" the ball cutting him off by hitting him in the head, knocking him down and bouncing at the basket, where it spun around before falling in through the hoop.
"That's a three-pointer!" Jimmy cheered while Double D looked open-mouthed at what just happened and Ed stood there smiling.
"What?! That's impossible!" Eddy exclaimed as he recovered on the ground.
"What can I say? I'm charmed!" Sarah laughed. "So, where's my cash?" she asked.
"You just got lucky!" Eddy growled in frustration. Sarah smirked at this, he didn't even know how right he was!
"You can BET on that! Now cough up the money!" she demanded as she extended her hand. Eddy clenched his teeth with rage but complied nonetheless, since a bet was a bet, and he had to give the rest of his money to Sarah.
Later on:
Sarah and Jimmy were walking towards the Candy Store, going to buy some jawbreakers and even some fudge with the money they got from Eddy.
"Fudge! Rich and thick with lots of nuts!" Jimmy sang happily.
"Yum!" Sarah exclaimed.
"Yum yum! Fudge is so sweet, Sarah!" Jimmy replied back.
"Yeah, especially when Eddy is paying for it! Did you see the look on his face, Jimmy?" Sarah laughed while shedding a tear from her face.
"Yes, it was so funny! He didn't know what hit him!" Jimmy laughed as well.
"Not even the ball!" Sarah joked.
After walking for a bit longer, Jimmy asked something else. "So, what do you plan on doing with your lucky charm?"
Sarah stopped for a second and though what her friend had just asked. What could she possibly do with it? Her train of thought was suddenly derailed when they heard someone screaming,
"HEEEEEEEEEELP!"
The two kids turned their gaze to the Construction Site in the near distance, where two construction workers stuck on a pulley window cleaner-like elevator, screaming as a wire snaps, tossing them out as they barely cling on.
"Oh no! Someone call emergencies!" Jimmy exclaimed as they looked over at the two workers hanging on for their lives. Sarah frenetically looked everywhere to see if someone could help, as the charm on her necklace glowed and she noticed a convenient costume shop located just in front of them, then looked at the glowing charm on her and remembered the money she had gotten from her bet, an idea coming to her mind.
"I'll be right back!" she exclaimed as she run into the costume shop.
"Sarah! Where are you going?" Jimmy questioned, but got no answer as his friend left.
Meanwhile:
The Eds were walking back home, going through the Construction Site as a shortcut.
"Stupid Sarah! How did she even get so lucky?!" Eddy fumed, still mad about losing his bet with Sarah somehow.
"An interesting coincidence of events if you ask me" Double D responded, still not believing what had transpired back at the Playground. I mean, of course he and his companions tended not to have much in the luck department, but how could Eddy had possibly lost that bet in such an unfortunate series of events was still a mystery to him.
"Whatever, who does she think she is?!" Eddy grumbled.
"She's my baby sister, Eddy, and I'm Ed, the King of Olympus!" Ed exclaimed.
"Shut up, Lump-!" Eddy was yelling at Ed, when a loud sound interrupted. The trio looked at the scene Sarah and Jimmy had just seen, with the construction workers stranded high above the ground and hanging by a thread.
"Dear Lord! Someone has to help them!" Double D exclaimed as he looked wide-eyed at the two workers hanging on for their lives.
"This looks like a job for…" Eddy said as he twisted the watch's dial to transform, then he looked around to see if someone was watching, other than his two friends that is. "Diamondhead!" he finally exclaimed after making sure the coast was clear, slamming down the watch's core as the familiar green light enveloped him. However, after the light faded, so did Eddy's vision as everything turned into a dull thermographic mapping, and he could feel hair covering his skin rather than having turn to a crystal-like material as it did whenever he went Diamondhead. This could only mean… the stupid watch had turned him into the wrong alien again! Wildmutt let out a growl in annoyance, before rushing over to where he sensed the workers, since he still had a job to fulfill. Ed and Double D followed close, although a little behind so as not to raise suspicions and also due to the fact they didn't possess the alien's speed and agility.
As Wildmutt headed off to save the workers, a new hero arrived on the scene. This one, in contrast to the big orange dog-like alien, was little and wore a black jumpsuit with purple gloves and a cat mask.
"Sarah?" a bewildered Jimmy asked upon seeing her friend return in such a strange costume.
"Is that Sarah?" an equally surprised Double D asked.
"Gravy?" Ed asked goofily.
"It's Lucky Girl actually!" Sarah, now 'Lucky Girl', declared as she run to the site to help out the workers, finding another worker trapped inside a truck by a giant steel bar that had crushed the door as she arrived.
"Over here! Somebody!" the worker trapped in the truck shouted desperately as sparks from the overhead lights began to cause flames.
Lucky Girl gasped as she saw this. "Stay calm!" she declared as she looked around trying to find something she could use to rescue the man. She noticed a nearby wooden board set over two tables with some smaller planks over it, an idea occurring to her just as the charm on her necklace glowed. She took a sprint and jumped onto the plank being cut, which sent the other half flying into a wrecking ball machine's controls, causing the ball to drop onto the truck, thankfully missing the trapped person inside, sending the metal rod to fly off and hitting a control board. This sent an elevator shooting up out of control, accidentally hitting the climbing Wildmutt, who was in the midst of saving the other two workers, sending him flying up into the air.
"Uh oh!" Ed exclaimed as he saw his friend flying, then fell back down and through the elevator still flying up at him, causing debris to fall down towards Sarah.
"Sar-I mean Lucky Girl! Watch out!" Jimmy called.
"It's gonna crush her!" Double D panicked.
"Not good!" Ed shouted in terror.
Sarah looked wide eyed at the falling debris, sure of her demise, however her charm glowed again and she managed to move just in time before any of the debris could hit her, in fact the debris seemed to fell on the opposite side as to wherever she moved, before eventually she darted for cover into a near cement truck and accidentally released the brake, causing it to reverse and knock a chute-structure into the now hanging by a rope Wildmutt, knocking him down again into a cement mixture. At the same time, the chute lands in the perfect position for the hanging workers to slide down it.
Double D was taken back by all those events happening in such a convenient way, leaving him wondering just how had Sar-err, 'Lucky' Girl managed to be so… lucky, for lack of a better term. He then noticed that, as she came out of the vehicle, the amulet on her necklace, which had been glowing all this time, suddenly stopped doing so. This got his attention, as he thought there was something very familiar about that charm. He wondered how could Sarah have gotten it, but first he turned his attention to the more important task at hand.
"Slide down the chute!" he called over to the two workers hanging on by the elevator now positioned over the funnel, as a soft cushion was already in place for them to land on. The two dropped into the chute, landing on the piled mattresses at the end.
"Way to go Lucky Girl!" Jimmy congratulated his friend as he ran up to her.
"Thanks Jim-ugh I mean kid" Lucky Girl responded in a 'heroic' tone as she did a weird pose, trying to look like an actual superhero. The reporters, as well as a crowd of bystander who had gathered to watch the whole ordeal, soon rushed over to interview and congratulate this new hero.
"Girl! Girl! What's your name?"
"Hey girl, how old are you?"
"How did you pull of this amazing rescue?"
"Are you an alien?"
"Would you sign me an autograph?" were some of the questions they asked.
Sarah was quite disconcerted by all the attention she was getting, however she soon grew a happy face and started milking all of it. "Okay, okay people! One at a time! First thing, I'm Lucky Girl, I'm not telling my age to anyone, I did it with style and… luck I would say, and really? An alien? That's stupid, of course I'm not an alien!" she replied to all of them, as she signed autographs for the ones who asked and waved to the cameras.
Wildmutt climbed out of the cement truck, covered in all the mix, wandering around until he realized everyone had already been saved and where congratulating the town's new hero, Lucky Girl. "Who's your hero?" she gloated in front of the cameras. Wildmutt just stood there observing the scene, even though he had no eyes and he was actually quite thankful for being in this form so as not having to look at this, before letting an angry growl as he sulked away while trying to shake the cement off his fur.
Meanwhile:
Hex was hovering down a street in another part of town, staff glowing as he still looked around for whoever had stolen his charm. He had roamed all over the city and there was still no sign of it! Just who could have taken it? Boy, when he put his hands on that person… "An exclusive on the scene interview with our city's very own-" a voice from a TV displayed through a window on a near store suddenly got his attention.
"-Lucky Girl!" a girl in a black costume with a cat mask exclaimed on the screen, as she was being interviewed by the reporter. However, only one thing from this actually caught Hex's interest: the charm on the girl's necklace… that was it! It was HIS charm! So that girl had taken it? And she was using it to play hero? Such a misuse of the amulet's actual power…
He shot a death glare at the screen, not caring about a single word being say but rather about the object in question, which soon shall return to him. And he would make sure that brat payed the ultimate price for daring mess with him…
Later on:
"WHO DOES THAT BRAT THINK SHE IS?! FIRST SHE TAKES MY MONEY AND NOW MY HERO JOB?! I'M THE ONLY SUPERHERO AROUND HERE!" Eddy fumed in the midst of Ed's room. After returning to normal, the trio had gone back to Ed's house, still baffled by the events that transpired and wondering just how was Sarah able to do that?
"I told you Eddy, she's my baby sister" Ed replied, not understanding what his friend was saying at all, then realizing something. "That means my sister is a superhe-!" he was cut off by Eddy grabbing him by his mouth in rage.
"I'M THE REAL HERO HERE! YOU GOT THAT LUMP?" Eddy yelled as he squeezed Ed with his hands, the big oaf's head turning blue in the process.
"Got it, Eddy..." Ed managed to say in a muffled voice due to being choked.
"I too am bewildered by what Sarah was capable of doing, she seemed to have gain a strange set of capabilities indeed…" Double D commented as he looked over on his laptop, searching for something. One thing was to manage an improbable throw like she'd done at the playground, but it seemed like Sarah had the power to turn probabilities in her favor at anything she did. "…And I think I just found the source of her powers" he finished saying, immediately gaining Eddy's attention.
"What?!" Eddy exclaimed as he stopped strangling Ed and rushed over to his side. "Tell me how does she do it?!" he demanded, getting on his friend's face.
"Please Eddy, you're invading my personal space!" Double D exclaimed startled by his friend's lousiness as he pushed him a bit away to create some distance. "Ahem, much better. Anyways, question first: are these of any familiarity to you?" he asked as he turned over his laptop, the screen displaying images of six different charms, including the one Sarah had, all with different runes on them.
Eddy immediately recognized them, "Hey! Those are the charms Mr. 'Freak at the Museum' wore when Ghostfreak kicked his butt!"
"Yep, I was there. Are you going to tell that story again, Eddy?" Ed asked excitedly.
"Not now Lumpy" Eddy responded before turning back to Double D. "But what do these have anything to do with Sarah?"
"Well Eddy, I couldn't help but notice Sarah's 'hero' costume had a necklace with a strange amulet hanging, one that glowed any time she did something and then things seemed to improbably go in her favor, hence why she went with this 'lucky' theme I guess?" Double D observed, then continued explaining. "I knew I had seen that particular item before, and then my mind went back to, as you already put it, your fight against that mysterious man at the museum, who seemed to have some strange abilities himself. He was interested in stealing the Archamada Book of Spells on exhibition, so I cross-referenced the book with magical mystical charms and found this" he showed them the information on his laptop. "It seems this charm is part of a set called the 'Charms of Bezel'. If my memory serves right, we are in possession of one, but there are more of them, including one for fire, levitation, reincarnation… this one in particular is 'luck'. What a coincidence, right gentlemen?" he finished.
"Wait, if Sarah has one of those that means…" Eddy realized as he rushed to Ed's closet, throwing stuff out of it until he found the box he was looking for. "IT'S NOT HERE!" he shouted as he searched through all the items they had collected since the beginning of the summer and their crazy adventures, and where he was sure they put the charm he got at the museum. "ED! Did you give your sister that charm?!"
"I did not, Eddy" Ed responded.
"Then that brat snuck in here and stole it from us! Urrrgh! That should be MY luck!" he complained angrily.
"You're missing the more important thing in question, Eddy. Sarah is playing with forces she doesn't understand, and it says here that all the Charms of Bezel must be used together along with the book of spells to be at their full power. That's why that man wanted to steal the book. By having that charm in her possession, Sarah is risking being the possible target of evildoers like him, don't you get it? She could be in danger!" Double D explained.
Ed, who usually didn't understand all the blabbering coming from his friend's mouth, had two words resonating in his head. "SARAH! DANGER! SARAH IS IN DANGER! WE HAVE TO SAVE HER GUYS!" the tallest Ed exclaimed as he run out of his room, even startling Nestor Jr who was resting over like he usually did.
"Ed! Wait!" Double D tried calling for him, but got no response. "We need to find Sarah!" he said as closed his laptop, him and Eddy following after their friend. They immediately went to Sarah's room, however she wasn't in there.
"Sarah! Sarah!" Ed called as they searched all over the house, but didn't find a trace of her nor the charm, which they assumed she must still have on. "Oh Sarah! Where are you?!" he asked as he continued to run through the house.
"Ed! Ed!" Eddy tried calling him, but his friend continued to run sick worriedly. Finally, he resorted to tripping him over so as to calm him down. "Stop it you big lump!"
"Think Ed, when was the last time you saw Sarah?" Double D asked.
Ed used all power in his brain to remember. "Ummm… this morning! She was going to play with Jimmy!"
"She must be at Jimmy's, come on let's get 'em!" Eddy declared as the trio went searching for her, checking Jimmy's house only to find they weren't there either. They then searched up the Cul-de-sac, looking at places Sarah could frequent like the Playground and the lane, however they still found nothing. In fact, they didn't see any of the usual kids as they went around.
"Ugh! We've looked everywhere and still haven't found her! Where's that brat supposed to be?" Eddy exclaimed, both annoyed and exhausted.
"Keep watching! We have to find Sarah!" Ed said desperately.
Suddenly, they heard a lot of commotion at the end of the street, turning around to see a particular house that sent shivers down the three Eds' spines. "THE HAUNTED HOUSE!" they all exclaimed in unison, bad memories of the house rushing through their heads.
Meanwhile:
Inside the 'haunted' house, the Cul-de-sac kids were trapped, floating over and screaming for help as the furniture and walls of the house waved about like they were alive.
"Help! Someone!" Nazz yelled while hanging in the air
"Not cool!" Kevin exclaimed, trapped inside the house.
"I'm afraid of heights!" Jimmy cried desperately, also floating around.
"Rolf's hasn't fly this high since father got me with his shoe on bath night!" Rolf declared.
"What's that Plank? Yeah, this is funnier than a barrel full of monkeys!" Jonny told his 'friend', seemingly liking being hove over.
They had been sucked inside the house by some invisible force, as if the house had come alive and devoured them. Suddenly, a figure bursted through the house's entrance, one dressing in black and purple with a mask on her face. "Everyone stay calm! I'll handle this!" Lucky Girl exclaimed as she entered the house.
"Sa-I mean Lucky Girl!" Jimmy exclaimed with joy at seeing his friend had come over to rescue them.
"Hey, it's that girl from the TV!" Nazz said upon seeing her.
"Seems familiar to me…" Kevin muttered, thinking this girl looked like someone he knew, he just couldn't remember who.
"Oh please help Rolf, cat-faced girl!" Rolf begged.
"Don't worry everyone, Lucky Girl's in the haunted house!" Lucky Girl declared in a heroic tone, trying to reassure the kids they were all safe. However, the house's doors suddenly shut closed and a manic laugh could be heard inside. "I knew you couldn't resist... Lucky Girl" Hex said as he came from behind a curtain, seemingly appearing out of nowhere.
"Who are-Wait! I know who you are, you're that creep from the museum!" Sarah recognized.
"Oh, have we met before?" Hex wondered as he floated in front of her. "Doesn't matter, you hero types are so predictable, all I had to do was stir things a bit in this by the mile Cul-de-Sac, close to that construction site you first appeared in and I knew you would show up. You're probably just a kid from this very neighborhood, playing the hero with powers you don't even know about" the sorcerer stated. Sarah gritted her teeth in her costume, how did this creep figure her out like that?
"So what, you're just a thug working with the Eds to steal from the museum!" she shot back.
Hex wasn't fazed by this as he didn't understand what the girl was talking about. "Thug? Working with who? You don't know the forces at play here, just give me my charm!" he demanded.
"You didn't say please!" Sarah blew him a raspberry.
"If you insist…" Hex responded as he lifted his staff and one of his other charms glowed, wooden boards suddenly coming off the floor and floating around him, before shooting them at Lucky Girl as a sort of projectiles.
"Woah!" the girl's eyes widened at the incoming boards, however her charm also glowed as she moved, being able to dodge each board in style and grace. Then she took her chance, stepping over some of the incoming boards and jumping onto a curtain, causing it to fall down over Hex as she dropped safely to the floor, also toppling a case of armor on him as well. This caused Hex's levitating spell to go off, making the kids fell to the floor with a thump.
"You guys okay?" Lucky Girl asked as she helped Jimmy back on his feet.
"I'm good Sar-err, Lucky Girl" Jimmy answered, almost blowing her cover.
"Rolf is in gratitude with you, she who dresses in black and has a cat for a face" Rolf said.
"Yeah, thanks for taking care of that freak, now let's get out of here!" Kevin said as the kids run towards the door, which Kevin and Rolf were able to take down just as the Eds were about to enter.
"Okay, here we go…" Eddy muttered as he readied his watch and looked to the house which brought one too many bad memories, however before they could muster courage to enter, the doors were taken down and all the kids came out running.
"What's going on?" a confused Double D wondered.
"Get moving dorks!" Kevin shouted as he pushed past them, most of the kids tailing out of there as well. However, Hex had managed to recover, a faint glow coming from under the curtain he was in as the case of armor on top was sent flying away, the magician coming from beneath it. He got to the door and pointed his staff at Lucky Girl as one of his charms glowed, levitating her back towards the house.
"Aaaah!" Sarah shouted as she was tele-kinetically held back.
"Sarah!" both Ed and Jimmy shouted in concern. "Let her go, you big meanie!" the fluffy boy called, trying to sound as brave as possible, which didn't faze Hex much as another of his charms glowed and he shot a bolt of energy at a nearby tree, its main branch suddenly coming alive and smacking Ed away before grabbing Jimmy by his ankles and wrapping around like a vine, completely encasing the boy. "Help!" Jimmy's muffled voice called from inside the tree's branches.
"Looks like your luck has run out" Hex quipped as he levitated Lucky Girl back inside the house.
"You don't need luck when you've got skill!" Eddy declared as he dialed the watch's core and ducked under the grass to avoid being seen by anyone still around.
Inside the house, Hex was about to grab Sarah's charm from her necklace when a big bulky four-armed red creature came smashing through the entrance wall, knocking back the magician. "Let her go, freak!" Four Arms demanded.
Hex gritted his teeth annoyed, another one of those alien heroes coming to stop him? How unfortunate. "You dare challenge me?" he questioned as a charm glowed and he enacted a spell at the case of armor that had knocked him before, making it come alive. The living armor swung its sword at the big red alien, cutting him off mid charge at Hex and enhancing him in battle.
Lucky Girl took this chance to sneak up and flee, running downstairs due to the main entrance being blocked by the fight. Hex took notice of this and, using one of his charms, made the stairs began to fly apart as Sarah run through them. Appropriately lucky for the girl, her charm also activated and she managed to jump over before the boards in front her flew apart, managing to jump over some of the flying planks and holding onto a chandelier, which began to lose its integrity, sending her plummeting down and screaming, right until her charm glowed again and the chandelier re-secured itself, tightening right before she hit the ground and allowing her to safely deposit her feet on the floor.
She then used her strength to throw the chandelier at Hex, though the magician managed to use a charm to stop it from hitting him, but this gave her enough time to run into another room. Sarah gasped as she entered a room full of bookstands and antique ornaments. "Where do I go now?!" she desperately thought, as the room didn't connect with a new one and no doubt that skeleton-faced creep was still after her. As she thought of this, she rested her hand on a bust's head that, with a glow of her charm, activated a switch under it, with one of the bookstands suddenly moving over to reveal a secret passageway. Sarah looked astonished at her luck, until she saw her charm glowing and remembered it. "Of course!" she exclaimed sheepishly as she run through the hidden pathway, passing snakes, skulls, and rats before losing her breath.
Hex continued to chase after her, seeing the open secret passageway and grinning to himself. He continued to wander around the house's tunnels, trying to find that little girl who had his charm and was giving him so much trouble, until he heard her running out of breath from the other side of the wall and prepared an incantation, ready to put an end to this cat and mouse game. On the other side of the wall, Sarah rested her hand against it, tired from all the running, when suddenly her charm glowed once again, coinciding with Four Arms slamming the enchanted armor on the floor above and causing the ground over them to shake, as Sarah's hand broke the wooden wall and went through it, causing the tunnel to collapse as the wooden roof fell on top of Hex, seemingly interrupting his chant.
After the dust cleared, Sarah coughed a bit and opened her eyes, gasping in shock and horror when she saw Hex protected himself with a shield of energy and was giving a sinister smile to her, showing his missing teeth. The girl took to running once again as one of the sorcerer's charms glowed and he fired a bolt of energy at her out of his staff, however her charm activated once again and actually made her trip, falling just in time so the energy blast barely missed her, breaking a hole into a wall and allowing Lucky Girl to go hiding through it. Hex gritted his teeth in anger, tired of this wild goose chase, but as he prepared to carry on he heard some voices coming this way.
"I think I heard something coming from here! They must be near!" a boy's voice sounded.
"Sarah! Where are you?!" another male voice called. Soon, Ed and Double D came running through the tunnel, following after the trail left by the chase. Hex took this chance to come out of the shadows and point his staff at them, taking the two by surprise as he used one of his charms to throw them up in the air and cast yellow-colored cuffs made of some mystical energy to restrain them. "AAAAAAH!" the boys shouted in unison as they were magically lifted up.
"This is your last chance, girl. You either come out and give me back my charm or watch as I burn them alive" the magician threatened as his pyrokinesis charm glowed, a sphere of fire coming from his staff ready to be fired at the two immobilized boys. Sarah could see this through her hiding place and gasped in horror. This guy wasn't working with the Eds at all and in fact was about to hurt them! As much as she enjoyed messing with them and couldn't stand her brother, she couldn't let this creep burn him and the boy she had a not-so-secret crush for.
"Wait!" Lucky Girl exclaimed as she came out of her hiding place, just as Hex was about to attack them. "Don't hurt them!" she pleaded as she scanned the area around, trying to see how she could use her charm to stop this freak, however there was nothing around she could use with everything already collapsed. Dang it!
"No more tricks child! Give me the charm or I'll kill them!" Hex threatened again.
Sarah sighed in defeat as she took the necklace off and extended her hand with it. "Fine, just leave them alone!"
Hex smiled with contempt as he floated over and snatched the necklace with the charm off her hand, taking a nice glance at and grinning like a madman now that all the powers of Bezel would be his. "You got the charm, now let them go!" the girl demanded.
The evil sorcerer mentally sighed. How foolish kids could be… "You want them? Take them!" he exclaimed as he moved over his staff at her, the two boys being sent flying along the way and crashing onto the now powerless girl as the magician laughed at this, taking it as a sort of payback for all the trouble she caused him, at least for the moment before he would personally destroy them, but he had bigger matters at hand right now as he shot another beam of energy upwards, destroying the roof above and flying out through the hole he made.
The two boys managed to recover from the crash and dusted themselves off. "Sarah! Are you okay, baby sister? Did that bad guy hurt you?" Ed asked with concern as he hugged his little sister, with her pushing him aside but not in the usual rough way she used to but rather more distantly.
"I'm fine!" she managed to cry angrily, as she fondled her neck, specifically around the place her necklace was missing. "My necklace! I lost my necklace! This is all my fault! I thought I could be a hero, but I messed up! I thought that guy was just some posing thug and I could take on him, and now he's got the charm… and… and…!" she sobbed furiously as she started to cry, before she felt a hand over her shoulder and turned up to see Double D looking at her.
"Sarah… this isn't your fault. Even if you did use the charm's powers for your personal advantage, you did try and help others with it, and that's what counts. I'm proud of you…" the boy gave her a warm smile.
"Double D…" the girl muttered as her frown turned upside down.
"I'm glad you're okay Sarah… and listen, the fact you don't have any powers doesn't mean you can help out" Double D assured.
Meanwhile, Four Arms continued his fight with the magically animated armor, which swung its sword at the big alien that managed to dodge it before it could slice one of his multiple arms off. Four Arms motioned for his opponent to take another swing at him, and as the armor replied back, the red alien managed to catch its sword with his extra limbs, then used another one of his hands to rip off the armor's hand with the sword, grabbing it and spinning around to take the armor's head off with its own sword.
"Ha! Touche!" Four Arms declared in victory, before he heard the floor beneath him tremble and then heard the roof breaking, followed by more commotion heard outside.
Speaking of outside, Hex was hovering over the place, all the charms of Bezel now on his own necklace and the Archamada book of Spells floating in front of him as he read some incantation out of it. "Time to turn the city into an old memory, starting with this Cul-de-Sac!" he announced before continuing to recite the incantation, a rather large swirling vortex of clouds and wind forming in the sky, lighting bolts striking the middle of the Cul-de-Sac, while trees and even Rolf's shed were sent flying away by a tornado, the animals from his farm also stampeding out of there. Panic quickly rose as the kids ran in all directions for their lives.
"IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT PLANK!" Jonny screamed as he took his 'friend' and run away.
"I'M DORKING OUT MAN!" screamed Kevin as he rode his bike as fast and as far as possible.
"Heh, heh, heh…" chuckles Nazz nervously as to cope with the sheer terror that took control of her body while running away from the mayhem.
"HAVE MERCY ON OUR MISERABLE SOULS!" Rolf yelled as he took some of his chickens and hightailed out of there.
Hex continued to cast his spell upon the Cul-de-Sac, before Four Arms suddenly jumped over to him and managed to catch the magician by his feet, dragging him down and interrupting his incantation, the freakish weather starting to die down as result. However, the sorcerer retaliated by shooting a bolt of energy from his staff, sending the big alien crashing into a crater on the street.
"I'm getting tired of y'all heroes!" Hex angrily exclaimed as he prepared another spell with his glowing staff, only to be hit by a rock on his knee due to being distracted. He furiously looked over to see who'd dare throw a rock at him.
"Luck only takes you so far!" Sarah, still in her Lucky Girl costume, said as she played around with another rock on her hand, Double D standing behind her. She threw the rock at Hex, who deflect it with his magic before using it to hoist the girl up in the air once more.
"Sarah!" Double D exclaimed concerned as he failed to grab her and she was pulled towards the furious magician.
"I had it with you, brat!" the boiling Hex declared as he got face to face with this pest, ready to finish her once and for all before someone called over.
"Hey you! Leave my baby sister alone!" Ed exclaimed as he spun around with a lamppost before throwing it at Hex. The sorcerer was about to deflect it but Sarah took the chance to snatch the necklace with all the charms off him, this made him lower his guard and the lamppost hit him square in the face, knocking him down but also making her pummel down due to the levitating spell going off. Luckily, that specific charm glowed once again and she felt safely just on top of Double D, who was trying to catch her.
"Thanks for stopping my fall, Double D!" Sarah said as she got up.
"No problem…" the bruised boy responded while on the ground.
Hex groggily managed to get up, still stunned by the hit, and looked over to see not only his staff was missing but his powers seemed to have decreased. He soon found out the reason as he saw that pesky girl held his necklace with all the charms and flashed them over. "Looking for something?" she taunted. The magician growled in anger and threw up his arms, ready to use a spell with what little magic he had left, only to feel a huge hand held both his hands together and lift him up, immobilizing him. He turned around to come face to face with the big red creature, who was looking at him rather angrily.
"Time for the magician to disappear!" Four Arms declared as he used another one of his arms to punch Hex in the face, knocking him out. Then, they went back to the haunted house where they threw the unconscious sorcerer inside a coffin they found, with Double D closing it and Ed putting some furniture over so he wouldn't escape. As the trio got ready to leave, they turned around to see Sarah still holding the necklace with all Charms of Bezel on her hands and looking at it.
"I could fly, shoot out bolts of electricity, bring trees alive…" she listed, thinking of all the powers she could gain from having all the charms for herself. "I'd be unstoppable!"
The three looked at each other with concern, worried that she may be corrupted by all this power. Four Arms decided to call her attention, "Hey Sar-I mean kid, you should hand over those, they're not toys you know."
"Oh please, like you can fool me with that, Eddy!" Sarah exclaimed as she pointed her finger at the big bulky alien, who was taken aback by her realizing who he was actually.
"Wha-Ahem, I don't know who you're talking about…" the alien tried to save.
"Yeah right, like these two would hang with some big four-armed monster just because…" Sarah rolled her eyes, clearly not buying it.
Four Arms frowned at this, not content with his secret identity being discovered. "Ed! Did you tell your sister about this?" he questioned his friend.
"Nah, I figured it out myself but wasn't quite sure, thanks for confirming it now flathead" she responded, both Four Arms and Double D face palming due to being tricked into blowing their cover just like that. "That's some weird costume you use, and how does it even give you that strength?" the girl inquired.
"It's not a costume, brat. It's the real thing!" Four Arms stated as he hit his chest, deciding it was no use keeping it up since she had already discovered them.
"So you're a real alien?! How is that possible?!" Sarah questioned, thinking her day had been weird enough already.
"Listen Sarah, it's a long story, we'll tell you about it but first we've got to destroy those charms" Double D told her.
"What?! Are you nuts?! Don't you see how much can be done with them?" she asked in disbelief.
"It is precisely why we have to destroy them, if they fell on the wrong hands… well, you can tell by the events of today what would happen" the smartest Ed explained.
"B-But I could be a hero…" Sarah replied disappointed.
"Being a hero is more than just the powers, you have to protect those around you" Four Arms said. Man, it felt weird to lecture someone, like he was Double D or something.
Even Double D looked at him shocked for a second, before his look turned into one of approval with a proud smile. "And besides, you were a hero today Sarah, and you didn't need those charms to help" the smart boy assured.
"Yay, my sister is a heroine!" Ed exclaimed proudly.
Sarah thought about it for a minute, it was true that creep had attacked the Cul-da-Sac just because she'd been posing as a hero on TV and calling for attention, which had endangered the lives of her very friends. Maybe she wasn't ready to be a hero… "Fine, I guess I could just be me…" she sighed and extended her hand with the charms on it. "But on one condition!" she quickly added, pulling back her hand.
"And that would be?" Four Arms asked.
"You tell me exactly what is going on, how come you can transform into an alien and you let me be a part of whatever is you're doing now" she demanded.
"What?!" the alien questioned, clearly not happy with any of the conditions.
"Agreed" Double D replied before he could say anything else.
"Sockhead!" Four Arms questioned.
"Think about it, Eddy. What other options do we have right now?" his friend said.
The big alien sighed, knowing they were outmatched in this one, "Fine…" he gave in and Sarah handed over the necklace with the charms, Four Arms taking it and then smashing them on the ground until they were dust, releasing some sort of weird blue-colored energy into the sky that created a light show above the Cul-de-Sac.
"I think this will be enough to alert the authorities, we should take our leave before they arrive" Double D said and they all went back to Ed and Sarah's house, more specifically back to Ed's room where they told her everything that happened since Eddy found the watch at the beginning of summer.
Later on:
The police arrived at the haunted house, being directed by the lights over the Cul-de-Sac and a sign pointing inside the house at its front. They found a coffin with some furniture over it and a sticky note that read 'Bad guy inside'. They took the furniture off and opened the coffin, finding the terrified Hex trapped inside, having been stuck in there for a while now. The sorcerer gasped for air as he tried to get off the coffin, only to be handcuffed and restrained by the officers now that he was powerless.
Meanwhile and with Eddy having already reverted back to normal, the Eds finished retelling their story to Sarah, the girl staying quiet for a moment as she took in everything. Aliens? A watch from outer space? Robots? Eddy a HERO?!
"…and that's how I got the watch and we started fighting crime in Peach Creek, and the rest is history" Eddy finished.
"So… you're all those aliens from the news? From the big red guy to the ghost from the museum?" Sarah asked, with all three Eds nodding.
"The fire guy?" They nodded again.
"The giant flying bug?" and again.
"The diamond guy?" and again.
"The orange dog with no eyes?" and again.
"Man, this is so weird…" she muttered, the weirdest part of it all was thinking the Eds were helping other people rather than trying to scam them out of their money. And to think she thought they'd been working with that creep to steal from the museum… she felt silly now that she thought about that, however she wouldn't dare admit that to them.
"But listen Sarah, you cannot by any means tell anyone about the watch nor anything of what we do, if you do we risk a lot of deadly consequences" Double D told her.
"Yeah, not even Jimmy!" Ed said, having Nestor Jr perched on his head and playing with his monobrow.
"Okay guys, I won't tell… but only if you let me be part of your team!" Sarah stated.
"Ugh… fine, what else can we do?" Eddy relented. Great, Sarah just found out his secret identity. Who's next? Kevin? The Kankers? He dreaded the thought.
"I suppose we'll officially welcome you to the team" Double D shrugged. "Congratulations on becoming part of the Alien Force, Sarah" he offered his hand to shake hers, and she accept it.
"Urray! My baby sister is going to fight the bad guys with us!" Ed happily exclaimed as he enveloped Sarah in a hug, only to be elbowed and thrown away by her in the usual fierce way now, Nestor Jr flying out of his head startled.
"Shut up, knucklehead! Just because we're on the same team doesn't mean I'll put up with your stupidity!" she declared angrily.
"Oh great, Sarah is on the team now, let the celebration begin…" Eddy rolled his eyes.
"But I do feel like we are forgetting about something…" Double D pondered, feeling like they were not remembering about something, something important…
"Well if you forgot about it Sockhead, then it must not have been that important in the first place" Eddy shrugged off.
"You do have a point there, Eddy. You're probably right" Double D responded. Oh well, who knows?
Meanwhile:
"Hello! Sarah? Anyone? Please, help me!" Jimmy shouted while still trapped inside the tree vines.
Aaaand that's chapter 8! As always hope you liked it and enjoyed reading it. Here are some trivia facts about it.
Trivia
1) The title of this chapter is based on an EENE episode called "The Luck of the Ed" and its plot is based on the original Ben 10 episode "Lucky Girl".
2) Ed's comic 'Pocket Monster Adventures' is a reference to the Pokémon manga. Also Ed's new favorite show is a reference to Dragon Ball Z, and the former one is another Jojo's reference!
3) The design and appearance of Ed's parents are based on those from Easymac120's fic "Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Teen Series", to add more references to that fic, because why not?
4) The Kankers bullying Jimmy and wanting him to eat a caterpillar is based on the EENE episode "For the Ed, by the Ed" and Sarah's way of rescuing him is similar to how Jonny and Plank save Jimmy in that episode. Also, Lee crashing onto some trashcans and rolling out inside one is based on the episode "Quick Shot Ed" where the same thing happens to Kevin.
5) The 'haunted' house in which Hex traps the kids is the same from the EENE episode "Honor Thy Ed", one of my favorite ones! The house having tunnels and secret passageways under it makes sense as to how the Kankers could move in there and set up their trap for the Eds in the actual episode.
