EXTERMINATE!:
Idea inspired by huntdaddy
Spring had arrived in Japan, and the kids were ready for the warmth and sunshine to come once again. Sadly, they forgot about the other side effects that came with warmer weather.
"EEEEEK. GETITOFFGETITOFFGETITOFF!" Mina screamed.
Her friends peered closely at her pink limbs to see a wasp. It had decided to lounge on the poor girl, and she was terrified of what it could do if she did anything.
"Just flick it off," Bakugou said.
"Are you kidding? It'll sting me!" Mina exclaimed.
Bakugou ignored her objections and swatted at the wasp, making it flare up with annoyance. It rose from Mina's arm, and she quickly ran in the opposite direction.
"Dude, now you made it mad!" Kaminari groaned.
"There's another over here!" Izuku said, pointing to yet another wasp who had made itself comfortable on the wall.
"Stupid spring," Bakugou muttered under his breath. "I'll get the fly swatter."
"Don't kill them! Just find a way to release it outside!" Ochaco exclaimed.
"Just so they can sting someone else? No way. They're pests." Bakugou continued his search for the fly swatter.
"Koda can do it. Right, Koda?" Jiro asked, nudging the quiet boy on the shoulder. He shook his head in response.
"Yeah, come on Koda. You can do it." Shoji urged.
"I-I guess." Koda murmured, taking a step forward and calling out, "My little friends, please leave the dorms."
The wasps seemed to get stuck in a trance as both of them immediately flew out of a window.
"Great job, Koda! Now can everyone please stop worrying? It's just a couple of wasps. They probably just got confused with where they were." Momo said.
The students gradually relaxed, returning to the activities they had been doing earlier. Koda got over the shock of seeing insects and focused on the homework in his hands instead.
For the next day or so, everything was peaceful. All of the kids went about their day, enjoying the warmer weather outside. Ojiro and Hagakure had decided to take a walk, and the trouble began once again. As they walked by the edge of the dorm, they heard buzzing. Tons and tons of buzzing. Upon further examination, they found a giant wasp nest nestled in the ground right beside their dorm.
"So that's why they got in," Ojiro said.
"Gross!" Hagakure exclaimed, quickly running away. Ojiro followed close behind.
"Kodaaaaa! There's a giant wasp nest right by the dorms!" Hagakure called as she burst into the common room. Koda immediately hid behind his book.
"What? Where?" Kirishima asked.
"In the ground right beside that wall!" Hagakure pointed. All of the kids looked to Ojiro to translate.
"She means right there." Ojiro chuckled, pointing to the far wall in the common area.
"I didn't even know they could build a nest in the ground." Kaminari shuddered. "What if you stepped on one?"
"You'd be dead." Bakugou snickered. "They would all sting ya since you broke their nest."
"Enough chit-chat. Can you get rid of it Koda? Please?" Mina pleaded, trying to look at Koda past his book.
Koda shook his head. "There's too many of them. Wasps are mean."
"Please?" The others pleaded.
"Don't pester Koda. We'll be having pest control come tomorrow anyways. I'll make sure Principal Nezu tells them to deal with it." Mr. Aizawa entered the room, startling all the kids when he spoke.
"Pest control? What were they coming for?" Izuku asked.
"Apparently, Class 1-B has termites." Aizawa shook his head.
The students gasped, rushing up to Koda with even more desperation.
"Please please please Koda. Get rid of them!"
"Dude, please? I'll bake you whatever you want."
"I don't want wasps and termites! 1-B is too close! What if the termites come to us?"
Koda started to feel overwhelmed. All the voices of his classmates overlapped to the point where the words were just jumbled up in his brain. He couldn't even hear himself think.
"ENOUGH!" Aizawa yelled, and all of the students immediately shut up. "Don't force him to do anything. Get back to your work and leave him alone."
The kids groaned but obliged, going back to their previous activities.
"If you would be up to it, it would be a big help. However, no one will push you. It is your decision." Aizawa said to Koda before walking off.
Koda tried to read his book once again, but he couldn't seem to focus. His quirk would come in handy in this situation but...he would have to deal with bugs. He loved any kind of animal, but not bugs. Their entire being scared him. His mind flashed back to when he was a little kid. He had been playing outside when a centipede decided to crawl all over his arms. He had tried to shake it off, but it was determined to stay. This was before his quirk manifested, and he was utterly defenseless against one single bug. His mom had to come and help him eventually, and then calm him down from his anxious state. Even with his own power, he was still afraid.
But...he couldn't let his friends down.
Taking a deep breath, he announced. "I will get rid of the bugs. Both the wasps and the termites."
The kids initially looked at him in shock, and then smiled as he walked towards the door, congratulating him for being so brave.
"Someone tell Mr. Aizawa to call off pest control. We have our own animal expert right here!" Tsuyu beamed at him, and it gave Koda some semblance of calm.
He walked out to where Ojiro had said the nest was. Sure enough, he could see the nest. The hundred of wasps buzzed, and he flinched at the sound.
"You can do it, Koda!" His friends cheered. They had come out to watch him. To support him.
Koda took a deep breath once again. "My insect friends, it's time to go! Follow me out into the forest and bother my friends no more!" He walked towards the forest behind the dorms, and the wasps started to follow. He heard the hundreds of insects buzzing as they followed him, some getting too close to his ears. Sometimes, he could feel them rush past him. Some tried to rest on his limbs. He shuddered but stayed strong. This is what being a hero was about: facing your fears to help others.
He moved farther and farther into the forest, guiding them away from the dorms. Finally, he stopped and commanded, "Go find a home in one of these trees and don't come back!"
The wasps obliged, and the entire swarm rushed past him in an instant. He let out a tiny whimper before running all the way back to the dorms.
"They're gone. Good job, Koda!" Shoji exclaimed, giving his friend a pat on the back.
"The job isn't over yet," Koda said reluctantly before making his way over to the Class 1-B dorms. He took his stance and yelled, "Termites, come out of the dorms and follow me! Leave UA alone!"
One by one, the termites left their hiding places and gathered around Koda, making him squirm. However, he refused to back down now. He could be brave.
He rushed back into the forest, taking them far away from any other building. They skittered around his feet, and Koda paid extra attention so he didn't step on any of them and infuriate the others. When he deemed a spot worthy, he quickly said, "Go make a home and don't eat from other structures!"
The termites obliged and went on their way to find a new home. Anxious but overall okay, Koda made his way back to the dorms.
He was congratulated on his success by his classmates as he walked back into the common room. They had seen how he had overcome his fear during his exams, and he did it again.
"I knew you could do it! Now I don't have to deal with scary wasps anymore." Hagakure exclaimed.
"Thank you, Koda!" The rest of his classmates joined in.
Koda smiled. Despite having to deal with two different types of creepy-crawlies, the smiles on his friend's faces were worth it. He had gotten rid of some nasty pests, and he couldn't help but be proud of himself. Guess heroes have to get over their fears one way or another, whether they are fighting a menacing villain, or simply taking care of a few nasty bugs.
AN: For my Whovians out there, the title is supposed to be a tribute to the series (I'm absolutely hooked on the show). Sorry for taking so long to update! I have some ideas, but it's hard getting them out into words. Thank you to huntdaddy for giving me a prompt to write about!
