One Shot Challenges
Disclaimer: As always, I do not own the Arrowverse
Note 1: So, after the last Prompt, which didn't receive too many entries, we decided we were done with challenges, but then Supergirl gave us an idea and we wanted to see if this one would work. So, one more challenge.
Note 2: I didn't actually have any ideas for this challenge, aside from Alura, but I managed to make it work. Enjoy.
Prompt: The Legion of Superheroes finds and rescues Kara from the Phantom Zone.
Together Again.
Alura Zor-El didn't know what had happened; one minute there had been a wave of anti-matter about to descend upon Argo, to consume her fellow Kryptonians, Kal-El and his own wife, and the next she stood on firm ground on what looked like Earth. Only it wasn't the Earth she knew – it looked, more advanced, almost like Krypton before it exploded.
There was a streak of red passing overhead, a person flying, and knowing her powers under the yellow sun, having helped her daughter against Reign recently, she flew into the air to follow the streak of red, who stopped short a moment later.
"Alura Zor-El?" The man asked, he had dark hair, a beard and wore an outfit which reminded her of Kal's Superman outfit, only it's main color was red and it didn't have a symbol on it.
"What happened?" Alura asked, confused, but recognising the man. "Mon-El?"
"Hey, yeah," Mon smiled. "How are you here?"
"Where is here?" Alura asked, confused still. "Where is my daughter?"
"That… is a long story," Mon stated, knowingly. "But how are you here?"
"What do you mean?" Alura asked, still concerned over the comment to her daughter.
"When Argo returned after Crisis, it was without you there. It was like you just… vanished," Mon stated, looking sad at this – it being common knowledge by now.
"Crisis? That wave of anti-matter? But that only just happened. Wait, am I… in the future?" Alura put the little information together to come to a conclusion: The Mon-El she had known had come from the 31st Century Earth, and given his story just now, it made sense she was now there, in the future.
"Yeah, you're in the future. The year 3021," Mon stated, shocking Alura. "How did you not know?"
"It only just happened to me. That Crisis thing reached Argo and then I was here," Alura stated. "Now, tell me, what happened to my daughter?"
-Supergirl-
Kara Zor-El was trapped in the Phantom Zone, but she wasn't alone. She had found her father again, Zor-El himself. He had been lost and fearful, having been trapped in the Phantom Zone for a long time; since Krypton had exploded, in fact.
Zor had lost hope due to the Phantoms, creatures whose ultimate goal was to turn anyone into themselves, a horrible monster who fed on people's fears; Kara had fought them, fought her fears, and now had her father back, but she was losing faith now.
Then there was Nyxlygsptlnz, an Imp from the Fifth Dimension. She had manipulated Kara, wanting to get back to her realm to wreak havoc, even if it meant leaving a trail of destruction in her wake on Earth. Their only escape, through the Achor – a place rooted to the universe, created by Kara's mother and Zor's wife – had to be destroyed to stop Nyxly.
Getting away from the fiery wreck of the Achor, Kara was supporting her father, trying to get themselves to safety.
"It's hopeless," Zor told Kara, limping by her side, having been wounded by the Imp.
"It's not – there has to be another way," Kara stated, "there's always another way."
"If only we could contact Alura, she would know," Zor stated.
"Well, mom's gone," Kara sighed, "I told you she vanished, we don't know where she went."
"Then it's possible, she too, escaped your Crisis into here, into the Phantom Zone?" Zor pointed out. "She knew this place more than any Kryptonian."
"It's possible, but it's also possible there are more Anchors," Kara mused as Zor stopped in his track, confused by this statement.
"How would there be more Anchors?" Zor asked.
"The Phantom Zone was shattered by Crisis," Kara pointed out, "many different universe's Phantom Zones all occupying the same space. It's a given that there are more Anchor, from different worlds, which could lead us home."
"But the multiverse was destroyed. What if they lead to nowhere?" Zor asked, worried now.
"Then we find out how to direct them to Earth Prime," Kara stated. "We cannot give up. We just need to hitch a ride with a Phantom to get to the next Zone."
"Okay, Daughter. It's the only plan we have," Zor stated, nodding at his daughter's determination. "I trust you."
-Supergirl-
Mon-El had led Alura to the Legion of Superheroes' Headquarters; Alura surprised to see that Winn Schott Junior was present, along with some of the other Legionnaires, such as Saturn Girl and Chameleon.
"Winn, what are you doing here?" Alura had to ask, before the matter of her daughter was discussed.
"I came here to help with some technology I invented in the past," Winn stated, having said his surprised hellos to Alura upon her arrival. "But while here, I kind of fell in love…"
"You have a beloved here in the future?" Alura asked, smiling now.
"Technically this is Present," Mon spoke up at this, but Alura dismissed the man, still looking to Winn.
"My wife is Ayla, originally from the planet Winath. We have a daughter together," Winn explained for Alura, who grinned.
"Family is the most important thing," Alura stated, turning her attention back to Mon at this, "which is why I need to know what happened to my daughter."
"Yeah, about that," Mon said, as he shared a look at Winn; Saturn Girl and Chameleon were in a discussion of their own. "She's kind of… trapped in the Phantom Zone."
"She's trapped in the Phantom Zone?!" Alura asked, shocked at this. "For how long?"
"Since her, our, original time," Winn added, covering for his Legion leader.
"She's still alive? What about her family back in the 21st Century? The DEO had resources, they could have gone into the Phantom Zone to rescue her," Alura pointed out.
"They could if they hadn't been destroyed back in 2020," Mon pointed out.
"Plus, Lex Luthor owned them in a post-Crisis universe," Winn added, having learned this from his own trip back to him original timeline.
"Alex, J'onn and their friends tried, from what records we have," Mon continued, "but they failed. They had truly little resources or knowhow to get into the Phantom Zone, not that they ever gave up trying," Mon looked sad at this. "Brainiac even contacted me to see if we could do anything, but there was nothing. They even tried using her blood to locate her through a Phantom but had to turn back."
"They used a Phantom?" Alura sighed. "That's the most dangerous thing they could have done."
"It was. They almost lost M'Gann M'orzz and Lena Luthor to it," Winn spoke up.
"Well, then there's now," Alura stated, confusing the two Legionnaires. "I studied the Phantom Zone for years – I even placed an anchor in there. So long as Kara hasn't succumbed to the Phantom visions, we can still save her."
"We can?" Winn stood at this as Mon smirked.
"Do you have a ship? I remember you used one to help stop Reign," Alura pointed out.
"Brainy stole it. It's in the 21st Century," Mon pointed out. "But we have others."
"Yeah, I used one to go back to my original timeline recently," Winn pointed out. "What's the plan?"
"We're going into the Phantom Zone, but first I need to make a few modifications to whichever ship we use," Alura stated, indicating for one of the boys to lead the way to a ship.
-Supergirl-
Kara and Zor had tried to trap a Phantom, to hitch a ride into the next area of the shattered Phantom Zone but were having difficulty – it seemed the Phantoms had got smarter, they knew the tricks the Kryptonians were doing now.
"Need some help?" a voice spoke, surprising the father and daughter duo as Kara span around to see a woman, slightly older than herself, standing before them.
"Nyxly!" Kara's fist clenched, her betrayal fresh, but she was also confused. "You survived?"
"I'm a Fifth Dimensional Imp, of course I survived," Nyxly stated, almost bored. "Your little trick, shattering the mirror in the Anchor and then blowing it up was fun. Made me re-think my priorities," the Imp stated, thoughtfully.
"You Imps are all the same," Kara groaned. "Although Mxyzpltk was better when he was forced to seek redemption."
"Oh, Mxy is my inspiration," Nyxly stated, and before Kara could stop her, she snapped her fingers and Zor let out a surprised moan.
"Dad?" Kara turned to her father, concerned.
"My leg… it's… healed!" Zor stated, reaching down to check his wound that Nyxly herself had inflicted recently.
"What's your plan?" Kara turned back to Nyxly at this. "You think fixing your mistake would get you in my good books?"
"Yes, actually," Nyxly stated, sitting now on a nearby rock. "That, and I can't get out of this place. You're the only ones trying, so I figured I'd come back to you."
"But we don't trust you," Kara stated, moving forward now, defensive.
"I'm the only one who can give you your powers back," Nyxly pointed out, Kara pausing. "Oh yes, that's right. I may have been trapped here for a long time, but I do know what Kryptonians are like on Earth. The legacy of Superman stretched far and wide – plus, Mxy loves to talk," she rolled her eyes at this.
"And the moment you give me my powers back, what's to stop me blasting you from this place?" Kara asked.
"Because you need me too," Nyxly pointed out. "You can't deny that my magic will be of great help. It may not be enough to let me get out of this place, but I know you want to reach the next Anchor in the next segment of the Zone, right? But the Phantoms won't let you ride them to the next Zone? Well, I can simply…" again she raised her finger and thumb and clicked, the three surrounded by white light before they appeared in a completely different place.
"What just happened?" Zor was the one to ask this.
"I took us to the next Anchor," Nyxly explained, indicating behind them; cautiously, Kara and Zor turned to see the familiar building, which had so recently been destroyed in their previous Phantom Zone realm.
"Okay, that was good of you, but don't expect…" Kara started, turning to face Nyxly, but stopped as something suddenly flew out from the Anchor building – it wasn't a Phantom, it was too big to be a Phantom…
-Supergirl-
Alura had added the modifications to small Legion ship; only she and Mon were going, after all, as Winn had elected to stay behind. Her modifications to their shields meant they wouldn't be affected by the Phantoms, who couldn't even get near them. Alura had also cobbled together a makeshift Phantom Zone projector, to get them in and out of the place.
"How do we know where Kara will be?" Mon asked as he strapped himself in.
"Because she's connected to me," Alura stated. "So long as we're bonded by blood, we will find her."
"That's good enough for me," Mon stated as the ship took the sky, Alura pressing a button to open a portal in front of them using the make-shift Phantom Zone projector. "Once more into the breach," Mon added as Alura raised her eyebrow at the phrase.
Speeding through the portal, the view outside went completely black for a moment before they appeared over a rocky landscape, no discernible features beyond them. It wasn't a nice place; Mon instantly knew that.
"How did Fort Rozz and Kara survive in here initially?" Mon had to ask as Alura started the scanners to find her daughter.
"Not all of this place is the land you see below," Alura explained, "the Phantom Zone is more like a bubble universe, attached to our own… oh, this is strange…"
"What's strange?" Mon asked, concerned now.
"The Phantom Zone is shattered," Alura muttered, "but there are two Kryptonian signatures. Interesting."
"Two?" Mon asked. "Not a Fort Rozz prisoner?"
"I don't think so…" Alura stated as she directed the ship to the Kryptonian signatures ahead of them.
"Oh. There's also a Fifth Dimensional Imp," Mon added, seeing that reading too on the scanners.
"This just got interesting," Alura stated.
"We're close enough we can teleport them on board," Mon stated. "All three?"
"Why not?" Alura stated, curious as to who the other Kryptonian and Imp were. A moment later, she had the shock of her life.
-Supergirl-
It was a ship, the three on the outcrop realized, but not a ship they recognised.
"Well, this is an interesting twist of events," Nyxly stated curiously as the ship swooped overhead and, a second later, all three were surrounded by blue light as their scenery changed entirely – now they were inside the ship, and Kara and Zor faced two people they never expected to see.
"Mom…? Mon…?" Kara muttered, shocked at the two before them.
"Alura…?" Zor paused. "No, this is another trick!"
"If it is, someone better let me in on why this is funny," Nyxly pointed out. "So, I hate to break it to you, but this is real, Zor-El."
"But… you vanished," Kara pointed out to her mother, moving over to hug her, nevertheless, while ignoring Nyxly's comment.
"It's a long story," Alura replied, glancing to her husband as she and her daughter embraced. "But Zor… how?" Alura had to ask, removing herself from her daughter and moving forward to put her hand on Zor-El's face.
"I tried to save my life," Zor stated truthfully, "when the shields to protect Argo failed, I placed myself into the Phantom Zone… but how are you here, beloved?"
"Argo's shields did work," Alura pointed out, smiling at the shock of the situation, glancing to Kara who was eyeing Mon worriedly now. "Argo was thrown from Krypton, but we survived."
"It's now relocated onto a planet outside the solar system," Mon spoke up. "New Krypton is thriving."
"How are you here?" Kara was the one to ask this now, finally, to Mon, deciding not to address Argo's future right now.
"Alura asked for my help to save you," Mon stated, "I couldn't say no."
"You came back to the 21st Century for me?" Kara stated, smiling.
"Ah," Mon stated, biting his lip.
"Let's get out of here, shall we?" Alura stated, turning back to Mon.
"I can't wait," Nyxly spoke up, the Kryptonians almost having forgotten she was here.
The Legion ship shot out of the Phantom Zone and back into the 31st Century National City; it was only now, seeing the changed city, that Kara finally realized what was going on.
"We're in the future," Kara groaned.
"They like to call it the Present," Alura stated, glancing at her daughter a little cautiously.
"How did we end up in the future?" Kara asked the room in general.
"Time travels differently in the Phantom Zone," Alura explained. "What seems like minutes there could be years in the normal world."
"That makes sense," Zor spoke. "It explains why it seemed to be only months for me while trapped there, while it was obviously many years for Kara, and even yourself."
"True. But how did you end up in the future?" Kara asked her mom.
"It was Crisis, or maybe that woman who saved Kal and Lois," Alura explained, having been musing this since she'd arrived, "one minute I was on Argo with that anti-matter coming, the next I was here."
"What a coincidence," Nyxly stated, as eyes turned to her. She raised her own eyebrows and shrugged. "What? I just said it was a coincidence."
"But wait, what about Alex?" Kara asked as Mon directed the Legion ship back to base.
"Well…" Mon sighed. "She never gave up," he decided to say, "but they were never successful in getting you from the Phantom Zone. Obviously, I'll explain after you meet with someone dying to meet you."
"Oh?" Kara raised an eyebrow, suspecting he meant Winn.
"We've arrived," Alura stated as they looked outside to see they were inside a building.
"Where did Nyxly go?" Zor asked, they suddenly realizing they were one number down.
"Oh no…" Kara moaned.
…
Inside the Legion of Superheroes' Headquarters, only Winn was waiting for the ship and ran for the door when it arrived, pleased when it opened to see Mon was back, along with Alura, Kara and an unknown man.
"Kara!" Winn pulled Kara into a hug at her appearance.
"Hi there," Kara chuckled, letting Winn hug her before he let her go. "Winn, this is my father, Zor-El."
"You dad?!" Winn's eyes went wide as he looked to the man who gave him a nod.
"Dad, this is Winslow Schott Junior, a dear friend of mine," Kara formally introduced as Winn and Zor shook hands, the others leaving the ship now.
"This is a fascinating place," Zor stated after letting go of Winn's hand and taking in the headquarters.
"It's nice," Kara agreed, "but you were telling me about Alex?" she turned back to Mon at this, but it was Winn who spoke up.
"Alex had to give you up long after you were sent into the Phantom Zone," Winn explained. "All their plans to save you, failed. She was distraught, but she had to move on. She and Kelly Olsen married and had kids though."
"Wow," Kara breathed. "Alex, a mom. I can see her being the strict one."
"She was," Winn chuckled. "Although we can't visit her yet. Too late in Alex's timeline for Mon and myself to visit yet."
"Can we visit though?" Kara asked. "Come to think of it, can I just go back and stay?"
"That's entirely up to you," Mon was the one to speak. "But you would change the timeline already established."
"But I can, right?" Kara insisted.
"Yes, you can," Winn stated. "But like Mon stated, your return would have implications, especially on the possibilities of her own children. In legacy to yourself, Jeremiah and Kara Olsen-Danvers go on to lead great lives, Superheroes in their own rights. Your return could change that."
"She… named her daughter after me," Kara paused.
"What about us?" Zor was the one to speak at this. "Alura was sent to this timeline for a reason, she rescued me and Kara from the Phantom Zone. I think we're meant to stay. This future reminds me a lot of Krypton itself."
"I have yet to even explore this place, or New Krypton," Alura pointed out.
"New Krypton?" Zor and Kara asked as one.
"I mentioned it earlier," Mon pointed out, "but you were somewhat distracted, I suppose…"
"Argo," Winn spoke up, "it went on to colonise a world outside this solar system, it's now New Krypton," Winn explained.
"That I have to check out," Kara smirked.
"After you rest," Alura turned to her daughter at this. "Both of you," she added to Zor. "You've been through a great ordeal in the Phantom Zone, you need to rest before you make any big decisions."
"Like going back in time," Mon spoke up.
"Like going back in time, indeed," Alura stated, turning to Mon now to find out if there was a place for her daughter and husband to rest. Kara and Zor, however, simply smirked at one another. This was a strange new future, and although Kara didn't have Alex with her, she did have her mother and father, back together.
Post-chapter note: And that's it. I honestly don't know if Kara would go back or stay in the future, and what would happen to either scenario, so I decided to stop it before it got bad. Maybe I will write a part 2 and you'll find out her decision, or I won't.
Anyway, for those who want to enter, please do. The prompt (to remind you all) and rules are below-
Prompt: The Legion of Superheroes find and rescue Kara from the Phantom Zone.
Rules:
1. It can be as long as you want but it needs to be at least 500 words to be able to be a story.
2. The direction of the story is, of course, your choice, but you have to follow the prompt. Kara has to be in the Phantom Zone until the Legion of Superheroes saves her. Whether or not anyone else is with her is your choice.
3. Time isn't an issue in the Phantom Zone, as demonstrated in the show, so Kara isn't stuck in the Zone for 1,000 years, BUT this is up to you; she can wait for a long time in the Zone or not.
4. You can add a romance to it if you want, or you don't have to. Completely your choice.
5. You have to post it on FanFiction or Archive and send us a link.
As for time limits on this, you have until Supergirl returns, so mid-August.
I hope to see some awesome entries and I hope Millie and I can give awards out again for each and everyone.
Until then, please REVIEW.
Sigma OUT!
