Chris' eyes were fixed on a white sign by the time Piers and I had caught up to him. I followed his gaze and read it over, Research Center.

"You think this is where they've been developing the C-virus?" I asked hopefully.

"Hope so," Piers said and positioned himself on one side of the doors, waiting for Chris' signal.

Following Piers, Chris took his position on the opposite side, one hand clutching the door handle while the other was still on the trigger of his gun. With a glance and head nod, both men threw the doors open.

I rushed in first, my weapon raised and my eyes scanning every inch of the warehouse. The sudden dampness in the air made me shudder, and the smell of grease sat in the back of my throat like sludge. Aside from the usual machinery, some shipping crates and stacks of opened boxes lined across the far wall, nothing was out of the ordinary. I gave the signal and heard the guys' footsteps carrying across the cement. The lights above hummed as Chris took the lead, leaving me to cover our rears.

The sound of a door creaking cut the tension. All our heads snapped up to the second floor.

I couldn't tell who it was until Chris roared, "Ada!"

His bullets pelted the door, but she quickly ducked out of the way, and with a sneer, pulled out her grapple gun and fired it at the ceiling. She jumped over the ledge while Chris continued his onslaught of fire until she swooped out of sight.

He tore his gun down with a growl, "damn it!"

Piers wasn't impressed, judging by how hard he glared at the side of the captain's face. He opened his mouth, but before he could make a sound, Chris charged ahead, leaving Piers and myself to play catch-up once again.

"Captain, wait!" Piers yelled.

I followed as well, my feet pounding across the floor as my breathing started to lag. "H-Hey! Chris, slow down."

But Chris was hell-bent on catching Ada. He zeroed in on a door up a small flight of steps and barged through it without breaking stride.

I pushed my legs harder and took the steps two at a time before stumbling inside.

An eerie green-blue light swept over the room and decorated the walls. Tentatively, I circled the area, searching the corners and site for anything.

I came up short once I noticed the row of tubes lined across the walls. They radiated that odd light and an even stranger feeling, like an ominous aura. The closer I looked at them, the more I noticed. Wires poured in from the ceiling and connected to each tube like an umbilical cord. My feet pulled me closer, and when my eyes adjusted to the odd lighting, I froze.

The B. inside pulsated and squirmed. Each tube housed a different specimen; some looked closer to humans than I felt comfortable with, and a few looked like some of the monstrosities we've encountered tonight. I kept a bit of distance between me and the tubes as a precaution.

"Looks like Ada has been busy," Piers paused beside me, his eyes glued to the B. inside with a curled lip and a furrow on his brow.

"No kidding..." The tube next to me caught my attention, and my mouth slammed shut as I eyed the monster inside.

The long, black, slender bodies of the eel creatures twisted inside the tube like black ink. Their fins stood erect along their spines like a row of knives, and its mouth curled back into a hollow smile filled with white teeth and black saliva to match the rest of its body. The scream's of Iesha filled my head as I tried to block out the memories of these things dragging her under the water and dismembering-

"Jade," Piers' voice cut me out of my thoughts and forced me to look away. I met Piers' glare as he stood impatiently. "Don't fall behind."

"I know these creatures. Back in Edonia-at Iesha's hideout where she died. What are they doing here?"

This only confirms Ada and her were all buddy-buddy. They cooked up their plans together, burned cities down and wrecked lives, right until-

"Enough chatter," Chris growled out, leaving me taken aback by his tone. "The longer you two chit-chat, the further-"

An alarm screeched overhead, followed by a click behind me. My heart hammered away in my head as my eyes flitted across the room. I pulled my gun closer to my chest and tried to calm my breathing back down.

Piers turned around and began yanking on the doors. "The doors are locked! We're trapped!"

All our attention shifted towards the glass tubes as the sound of rushing water filled the air. The water levels inside them dropped quickly, and the bodies of the B. began to stir. They howled like newborn babies awoken from their deep slumbers. Their eyes twitched and shifted until landing on me.

"Piers…" my voice failed me as I stepped away from the tubes.

One of the creatures found my gaze, and its breath fogged up the glass. It beat against the glass; Each bang reverberated through my body like a drum. BangBangBang!

"Captain, we got trouble!" Piers ripped his gun up just as the glass gave way.

The creature spilled out onto the floor and leered at me behind round yellow eyes. It stumbled to its feet and choked out a roar.

"Take them out!" Chris yelled.

Muzzle flashes soaked the room, distracting me as I tried to keep my distance from the monsters; their screams grated on my ears. They thrashed and sputtered as the bullets ripped through their flesh, throwing them back against the tubes in a bloody mess. We were so focused on the two in front of us we overlooked the one to our side. It lashed out at Piers, catching him in the side and throwing him across the room in one movement.

"PIERS!" I cried and watched as he staggered to his feet with his hand pressed tightly to his side; luckily, I didn't see any blood.

Still unaware, he stumbled around, trying to get his wits about him while the B.O.W marched towards him and tossed its arm back in preparation.

"Hey, Asshole!" I shot at the creature, gaining its attention.

It staggered forwards with a cry as my shot slammed into its shoulder, knocking it a few steps forward. It gurgled out a roar and whipped around, smelling the air until finally locking eyes with me.

"Over here!"

Before I could blink, the creature bolted; it ripped across the floor in a blur and closed the distance between us in a few strides. The giant shape was on me in a second with its clawed hand raised high above its head. I squeezed the trigger, but nothing happened. My body reacted without having to think. I ducked out of the way, feeling the rush of wind past my throat like a blade. I fumbled over a shard of glass and got clipped by the B.O.W's claw. It slashed across my thigh, making me yelp as I fell back to the ground.

A blood-curdling screech assaulted my ears. Through my blurred vision, the B.O.W craned its neck towards a new sound. The muzzle flashes erupted, and behind them, I saw Chris. His lips pulled back in a snarl as he gunned down the B.O.W. Finally, he knocked it into the glass tubes, killing it instantly.

I climbed to my feet but fell back down with a yelp as pain shot through my leg. I pressed a hand to my thigh and drew it away only to reveal my hand stained bright red. Already, my thigh was covered in blood and a long slice from where the creature nicked me.

Shit.

Piers' limp was subtle, but it was apparent he favoured one leg as he dodged around another B.O.W. With two more well-placed bullets, he put it down and rushed over to me.

It took me a moment to realize the shooting had stopped. I blinked up to Piers' hardened face. "What?"

He knelt beside me and inspected the open wound. "I said, it's deep, but it didn't hit any major arteries." The slight strain in his voice didn't ease my nerves. I cost them another setback with this injury and possibly our chance to capture Ada.

"I'm sorry-it caught me off guard. Just leave me and go-"

"No one gets left behind," was all he said as he began digging through his medical pouch and yanked out a long thin bandage. "Hold still." Carefully, he wrapped the bandage around my thigh, paying close attention to how much pressure he put on it and finished with a knot, making me wince. "There."

He was slow to get back to his feet, but he didn't say a word as he extended a hand towards me. Gladly, I took it and struggled back to my feet, careful not to put too much weight on the leg. I studied his handy work and gave him a thumbs-up, which he returned with a quick pat on the shoulder and a nod.

The silence was broken as an all too familiar female voice sounded over the speakers. "Welcome to my research center. Do you like what I've done with it?" The laughter in Ada's voice boiled my blood.

"Laugh while you can, Ada," Chris said while starting towards the doors. When they didn't budge, his frustration snapped, and he pounded his fist on the door. "Dame it! They're still locked!"

Off to the side of the door, a panel was mounted on the wall. Chris noticed it at the same time I did and began to pry it open. The sound of frantic typing filled the air as he typed in some override codes, cursing as he did so.

"She's hiding something here, but it feels like she's toying with us," Piers said as he walked around the dead B. , eyeballing them as they twitched.

"Like she's always one step ahead of us." Which was the annoying part. She was one step ahead of us and dragging us through her freakshow in the process.

The alarm blared again, causing my heart to jump into my throat. The water in the tubes quickly drained, and the ell B. began to stir. I watched in muted horror as their milky eyes popped wide open and settled on me with silent carnage.

Not again.

"Looks like we're in for round two," Piers raised his gun and straightened his back.

"Hold 'em off until I'm done!" Chris shouted.

Shoulder to shoulder, Piers and I aimed at the black creatures inside the tubes. Their shrill cries were somehow both mesmerizing and haunting-like a siren's call. They poured out of the tubes and onto the ground and immediately honed in on us. The closest of the creatures catapulted towards Piers, but thankfully, he was paying attention and sidestepped out of the way.

The B.O.W reared up like a cobra, extending its mouth wide open and spit a black substance at our feet. It reeked of flesh and rot and made my stomach roll as I hurried away from the mess and began shooting at the creature. Chunks of flesh tore off and splattered the floor, yet the beast wouldn't stop. It launched again, grabbing the barrel of my gun in its mouth. It yanked and pulled on it relentlessly while my gunshots pelted inside of the thing's mouth, ripping more flesh away and pouring black goo over the barrel of my gun and over my feet. Finally, it let go with a gurgled cry and fell to the floor in a heap, leaving me gasping for breath and with an electric pain flaring through my thigh.

More creatures swarmed us while we tried to hold them at bay and away from Chris. That's when I began to hear muffled voices fill the room, but it wasn't from Pierse or Chris. With one ear, I balanced with fighting off the monsters and listening.

"You hear those voices?" Piers asked between gunshots.

"Yeah, thought I just imagined them." I ducked under a swipe and stumbled to the side with a wince.

"Probably more of Ada's henchmen." Chris piped in. "Ignore it for now! Keep those fuckers away 'til I get this done!"

There were still more B. , and they didn't look like they were going to slow down any time soon. Just looking at them made my body ache.

Gunfire rattled the air mixed in with the sweet smell of gunpowder. It gave me a slight boost as I honed in on the next target.

It was an odd-looking thing with an octopus head that narrowed down into a human torso with a spore of tentacles and a big black beak where the middle was. It stood on two deformed legs that twitched closer to me. It grabbed a pipe in one of its tentacles and swung it above my head, slamming it into the floor with enough force to break the tiles. It shrieked and cried as it swung, again and again, missing me as I ducked and backed away-

One tentacle whipped out and grabbed hold of my wrist, and tugged me forward. A yelp escaped my mouth as the pain in my leg throbbed, making me stumble over my feet. I ripped up my gun and let loose a barrage of bullets and let a smile touch my lips as the bullets tore through the B.O.W's flesh. It finally fell, giving me a second to breathe and to double-check the bandage; Fresh blood stained it and began to dribble down my side.

"Ah, crap!"

Piers was preoccupied with another B.O.W trying to bite at his feet when I limped over to him. His gunshot blasted through the air, leaving a mess of flesh across the floor where the creature's head used to be before he raised his eyes. "Wasn't aware all it took was a scratch to the leg to keep you quiet."

My laughter only came out as a puff of air and a shake of my head. "Really? You miss me pointing out how much of an asshole you are?"

There was a lull in the attack, making it easier to hear Piers' grumble. "And there it is."

"You asked for it."

He punched off one of the creatures and straightened himself back up to look my way. "Guess I did, huh?"

I was about to retort that comment with another joke, but Chris cut in before I could. "I got it!"

The alarm cut out, and the click of the doors creaked open, leaving Piers and myself labouring for air as the bodies of the B. laid around us.

"Alright, let's go!" Piers said and started for the elevator without a pause.

I lagged behind, dragging my leg as pain pulsated with every step.

Why did it have to happen to me? I slowed them down once already.

"At least we know she's still here." Piers said as the elevator doors began to close.

"Doesn't mean shit until I catch her." Chris snapped.

Piers' eye twitched as he stared at the back of the captain's head.

The elevator doors creaked open, revealing an empty hallway. "Let's go," Chris uttered and exited first.

The humidity and sweat plastered my hair to my face as we buried down the hall. I tried brushing it away to no avail. Instead, I clucked my tongue and gave up and just focused on the set of doors ahead.

We shuffled through the door leading us into some kind of computer tech section. Rows of towers filled the darkroom with only the blinking lights on the machines as a source of a guide.

"Keep your eyes peeled," Chris said and shifted his grip on his gun.

I circled the area, searching for any movement or suspicious activity in the shadows until the distinct smell of iron hit my nose. I spotted the sprays of blood across the floor and side of the machine, but there was no body-at least none left to my knowledge. A tacky sound echoed out as my feet carried over the partly dried blood and around the corner where a set of doors were.

"I got some doors over here," I whispered out and propped my gun to my shoulder.

Piers rounded up beside me with Chris close behind and gave me a light tap on my shoulder, prompting me to one door and Piers to the other. With our hand on the door handles, Piers gave me a quick nod, and in sync, we tossed the doors open and let Chris slid inside.

"Clear!" He yelled.

As soon as my feet reached over the threshold, the doors clicked shut behind. I tried the handle, but it wouldn't budge. "Doors are locked."

Chris didn't seem to hear me; he looked too busy in his own thoughts as he examined the room. "What the hell is all of this?"

It looked like another laboratory with glass windows, and we were in the testing section. A chill ran down my spine-

-I jolted at the sound of disembodied voices. But before we could investigate the matter, an alarm blasted overhead, and the doors on the opposite side clicked shut.

"Like what I've done to the place?" Ada's annoying voice broke the tension. "We've been conducting such fascinating research here. Hope you enjoy one of my newest creations."

Chris growled out and spun around, searching for the woman. "Ada!"

"Captain-" Piers was cut off as small robotic creatures no larger than a Roomba poured through the vents and circled our ankles.

Two of the weird things gravitated towards me like magnets and circled closer. A beeping erupted from their tops as their bodies began to flash red. The beeping grew faster, and they climbed over my feet in an attempt to get closer. I shoved them off, but they kept coming back.

"Look out!" Piers yanked me back, and the robots exploded, sending me back with a start as I fell into Piers' front.

Horrified, I stared at the blackened tiles; it was all that remained of the robots. "What the hell?"

We jumped back as four more robots exploded, and soon, the room was filled with beeping sounds and flashing red lights as more of those robots circled our feet.

"Damn it! We need to get that door opened!" Chris shouted and kicked away the robot before it could explode and cocked his head around the room, searching for an exit.

On the opposite wall, a panel was located. I pointed towards it. "I think I can use that to override the system...but it might take me a moment."

Curses fell in the air as Piers rounded on another robot. "Fine. We'll hold 'em off-just hurry!"

I leapt to the side of another robot and hurried over to the other side of the room. I gave the panel a once over before ripping the front open and began rearranging the wires to get to the override keyboard located at the back. A cold sweat trickled down the back of my neck as error messages started popping up, and the automated voice above started mentioning a break in the system. A headache ford between my eyes, pounding away in tune to the gunshots behind me.

The guys behind me cursed as the beeping sped up and more robots exploded, catching Piers by surprise as he jumped too late. "A little faster over there, Jade."

"I'm going as fast as I can," I shoved more wires around when a beeping sounded close to my heels. The sneaky little robot pressed itself between me and the wall; the lights on it flashed a vibrant red as its beeping became rapid. "Fuck!" I lurched back as the explosion erupted, sending a pang through my thigh. "Thought you were keeping these away from me?"

Piers clucked his tongue and shot out another robot before it could explode. "Sorry!"

I was finally getting somewhere when the error messages disappeared, and the automated female voice sounded out, "locks disengaging."

"Got it!" I yelled as the doors opened and the vents closed.

"Don't let her escape!" Chris yelled out as he fired off another shot, striking the last robot and made a break for the exit.

Piers rushed up behind him, keeping close as I trailed behind.

The click of a gun pointed at my head stopped me just outside the room. The woman on the other end met my bewildered stare with a stern frown until she noticed my uniform. Her eyes didn't let up, but the man she was with did.

His eyes widened towards the captain. "Chris?"

Equally shocked, Chris lowered his gun and stepped towards the blond man. "Leon?" Piers edged towards the door other door but didn't move until Chris turned to him. "I got this. Go after Ada!"

Piers ignored the woman with her gun still to my face and ushered me along out the door when the blond man-Leon-barked out for us to stop. But we didn't listen.

"They'll kill her!" Was the last thing I heard them say to Chris when I noticed the shadow running across the catwalk in front of me.

"There she is, Piers!"

"ADA, STOP!" He picked up the pace.

"I wasn't aware the B.S.A.A was in the habit of hiring children." She teased and kept running.

"Get your jokes in while you can, Ada because you'll be eating lead soon enough."

"Don't let her get into your head. Go right!" Piers pointed and kept straight while I veered off at the split in the catwalk.

Ada's laughter filled the warehouse. "Never send a boy to do a soldier's job!" She shot behind her, missing Piers and sending sparks up across the metal grating.

"Give it up, Wong!" Piers was gaining upon her, but then she rushed towards the railing, jumped off and used her grapple gun to lift her to the next level, where she ran out of our line of sight.

Through the ringing in my ears and my loud panting, I could hear the strange duo we ran into yelling behind me. "Chris! WAIT!"

"Cut them off!" The woman's voice close.

Piers' bobbing head grew further away as I tried keeping up, but the pain in my thigh and spine was becoming unbearable, and my lungs burned for a break. I fumbled into the railing with a cry and noticed the fresh blood seeping through my bandages-

Something yanked on my arm, throwing me backwards and blurring my vision. When it cleared, I was face-to-face with the woman we had run into moments earlier. She gripped my bicep tightly, no matter how hard I yanked and tugged. "Easy, I won't hurt you."

"Let go of me!" I threw a fist, but she dodged around it easily.

"You need to listen to me-"

"The hell I do!"

Gunshots ripped across the air, and Chris' voice roared out, "Piers, block her off!"

With the distraction, I shoved the woman backwards, sending her crashing into the railing with a curse as she tried to catch herself while still holding on to me. I yanked my arm back and swept her feet out from under her. She crashed to the floor with a huff, making me smile as I turned on my heels and bolted towards Piers and Chris.

"Wait," the woman cried. "She's a witness! Don't shoot her!"

That made me laugh as I picked up the pace. "It's the least she deserves after all the shit she's done!"

The woman's footsteps hurried towards me as I inched closer to Piers and Chris. "You have to hear me out. Get your team to hold on!"

My feet faltered down the two steps and into the railing, but I didn't stop. "I've seen enough. I won't allow her to kill anyone else," I said under my breath and picked myself back up.

"Captain!" A loud bang cracked the air, and a string of erratic gunshots. "Freeze!" I heard Piers roar.

Two blurry shadows stood on the balcony above; their muffled voice made it hard to tell what they were saying, but one shadow darted below me and out the door, the wisp of Piers' back caught my attention, and I shifted to the steps on my right. My legs tumbled down them, nearly over themselves, but I picked myself off the wall and rushed to the door.

The city air hit my face as I plowed through the metal door and into the scene. Gunshots and squealing tires erupted as Piers fired off at a retreating vehicle. He tossed a glance over his shoulder when he heard me approach. "She's taking a break for it." He pointed to one of the abandoned military trucks. "Get in!"

I was too tired to ask questions, and quite frankly, sitting down sounded like a fantastic idea at the moment. I limped along the side of the truck and tossed the door open. The hard seats were a welcome feeling as I settled into them.

Chris appeared from the doorway seconds later with a sheen of sweat on his brow and new clarity to his gaze; they were much more focused than they have been all night. He started towards the truck with purpose in his steps.

"Piers," at the sound of his name being called, Piers paused with one foot inside the truck and flicked a glance towards the captain. "what you said earlier, about me running from my past, you were right." He spoke honestly, and a smile touched the corner of his lips. "Thank you for pointing it out."

The shock on Piers' face matched my own. "Captain?"

"Think you can catch up to her?" Chris jumped onto the back of the truck, earning a snort from Piers as he settled in the driver's seat and revved the engine.

"Won't stop until I do!"

I lurched forward as he rammed that ruck in reverse and threw us around.

"Hold on tight!"

"To what?" I heard myself asking before he hit the gas, and my head whipped against the seat as we sped down the road. I grabbed ahold of the seat a tight as I could and silently prayed.

"This is Piers Nivans," I heard him speak into the radio. "Ada Wong is moving south to the military port. Advising all personnel to be on the alert."

The radio chatter bombarded my senses as multiple voices responded to his call. "HQ to Nivans, no can do. All reserves and units are occupied for the time being."

"That's just great." Piers grumbled and rammed the car around the bend.

"Can't be helped," I found my voice and shifted in the seat.

"We'll handle her on our own." Chris grabbed the machine gun mounted on the back of the truck and turned his attention to the five vehicles that appeared out of nowhere and surrounded our truck.

The J'avo inside fixed us with slit eyes and raised their guns towards us.

"Oh, come on!" I yelled and ducked down as the bullets rained down on us, knocking out the windshield in front of me. "Looks like Ada has some more friends!"

"Not for long!" The sound of the machine gun loading cracked behind me, and in an instant, Chris was returning fire.

It was satisfying to see the J'avo get a taste of their own medicine. The bullets rained down on them, ripping them apart and throwing them off the trucks like the apocalypse. Their truck raced forward, but it wasn't enough to escape the carnage.

I whipped my gun up and squeezed the trigger, striking two J'avo and throwing them onto the street.

The truck lurched again as Piers avoided hitting them and pressed down on the gas. "Where do they all keep coming from?" He shouted over the fighting, ducking his head as more stray bullets pelted the truck.

"Beats me, but they're a colossal pain in the-AH!"

A new enemy vehicle jumped the lanes and bashed into the side of our truck, forcing Piers to break. The impact knocked me against the seat and straight across Piers' lap. A new throbbing pain started from the crash, muddling in with the wound on my thigh and sending out a hiss from my lips.

"They're not getting rid of us that easily," Piers cranked the steering wheel around and floored it through the interstate, leaving the enemy truck behind. "I'm the best driver the B.S.A.A's got."

Struggling off his lap, the truck lurched once more, throwing me back down and flaring up my side again. "Could have fooled me," I hissed and raised my head enough to catch the scowl on Piers' lips.

The frown faltered, and his eyes fixed on something ahead. "Get down!" He shouted and shoved my head back over his lap and crumpled himself overtop of me as bullets pelted the front of the truck. His hot breath fanned over the back of my neck and pushed me harder into his lap as the bullets pelted closer to the seats. "Fuck!"

More glass fell on us as the bullets tore through the windshield and seats, leaving a ringing in my ear once they stopped. I sprang up and out of his lap, ignoring the shock it sent my body as I hit my side of the seat and gawked at the side of Piers' face. The only reaction I got out of him was a short and almost nonexistent tilt to his lips, but it vanished in a flash as more trucks began to surround us.

"I've had enough of these stupid games." Chris roared as he took out more enemy vehicles, breaking my train of thought. "Chris to HQ! Block all the exits!"

"No can do," the voice in my ear spoke. "All personnel are still engaged. We don't have anyone to spare."

The back of Ada's car swerved across the lanes and towards the underpass.

"Delta to Alpha! We're zeroing in on Ada Wong, "the soldier's voice waned. "We'll try to hold on on our end. We're not gonna last long."

Chris piped up between firing. "Just keep those civilians safe."

"Okay. Good luck. Let's stop this shit storm! Delta out!"

The voices and the gunshots faded in the distance as Ada's vehicle zeroed in on the tanker blocking half the road ahead. She slowed beside it and dropped a metal can from her hands before speeding away. Before I could get the words out of my mouth, the grenade exploded, sending the tanker aflame.

"Look out!" I braced for impact.

"Hang on!" Piers cranked the truck through a fence and straight across the train tracks. My body bounced across the seat, sending up an electric shock from my spine right down to my leg. My hand hit the dashboard with a grunt as I squinted through the pain.

Definitely the best driver in the B.S.A.A…

A horn blared out in the air, and a light drowned over my face. My eyes shot up and widened as I spotted the incoming train. "Piers-"

"I see it!"

"PIERS!" I flew across the seat and yanked the steering wheel towards me, forcing the truck through a small gap in the fencing. My scream cut off as the truck slammed back on the road and next to a bewildered Ada. Our eyes locked for what felt like a lifetime before her lips curled into that damn smirk, and she hit the gas and swerved into an underground parking lot.

"Get her, Piers!" Chris snapped as he tried shooting out the back of her car but ultimately missed.

The hazy sky cut off into the dark underground parking lot. Piers retook control of the wheel and cranked it around as he spotted her headlights disappearing up the incline to the next level.

The truck wavered as it hit the incline; the tires squealed, and the headlights swirled around the beams and abandoned cars in the garage, but there was no sign of Ada once we reached the top. "Where did she go?" My voice echoed in the empty parking garage.

"There!" Chris stopped as he realized it was more J'avo. They blocked off the exit and mounted the front of their trucks with guns and knives in hand.

"Hold on!" Piers shouted and took a sharp right.

I tried shooting off at the J'avo following us, but it was impossible to hit them with all the sharp turns and rough ride. The truck came to an abrupt stop, sending me back with a crash. "Ow...what the hell-"

I cranked my head over the dashboard, and that's when I noticed the two-story drop. Ada pulled up, adding salt to the wounds, and gave us a small smile and a wave before gunning it down the road.

"Follow her, Piers!" Chris snapped.

I looked around at the ledge, the high drop and the J'avo catching up behind us. "But...there isn't a way to get out of here-"

"Yes, there is. Hold on!" Piers slammed the truck in reverse, leaving some space between us and the ledge. A glint passed over his face, and a smile touched his mouth as his eyes remained fixed ahead. Then it hit me.

"Wait-"

He slammed down on the gas, whipping my head against the seat. All I could do was scream as the truck shot off the ledge and slammed into the guardrail below with a bang! The wind was knocked out of me, and my stomach was rolled, but Piers wasted no time before punching the gas and sped off down the road after Ada's vehicle.

"Nice one, Piers!" Chris cheered and fired off at an alone enemy truck in the way.

"She's not getting away this time," Piers said and took a sharp turn over the bridge, closing in on Ada once more.

I pried my hands off the dashboard and tried to settle back down into the seat, but my heart wouldn't get out of my throat.

He's crazy!

"HQ to alpha," Our radios brought me back down. "We spotted an aircraft carrier of unknown origin in the harbour. Intel tells us it might belong to Neo-umbrella."

As the message was said, the aircraft carrier came into view by the harbour.

"There's the aircraft carrier," Piers pointed." We can't let her get on it!"

Ada's vehicle picked up speed and boarded the carrier just as it started to depart. And yet, Piers didn't slow down the truck. His jaw set, and his eyes never strayed from the carrier ahead of him.

The blood froze in my veins, and I could feel my fingers tearing through the seats and my back pressing into them.

He's not actually going to…

"Hold on, I'm gonna gun it!"

Time slowed as soon as all four tires went airborne. The dark water passed beneath us, and I couldn't even see the ground anymore.

"What the fuck, Piers?!" I screamed and clutched onto anything close by, which included Piers' arm. I hung off of him and watched as the truck dipped down over the carrier.

The truck landed hard, tipping over and skidding across the floor as sparks flew around us. The world tilted and blurred and spotted before coming to a stop at last as the truck hit some crates. Pain engulfed every inch of my body as I was ejected from the seat and crashed on the hard, cold ground, where I rolled to a stop. Slowly, my head lifted, and I was finally able to see. My hands shook under me as I clawed my way to my knees and tried to shake off the haze in my mind as all my muscles and bones screamed out in pain.

When the world finally stopped spinning, I was able to make out the B.O.W standing over Piers' body.
