Chapter 8

Back at Chris' apartment, Jim and Chris are sitting on the couch. Drinking some warm tea. They ran some test and just concluded that she had a concussion. But they also said she had a couple bruised ribs. As well covered from head to toe in bruises. But they sent her home. They gave instructions to stay away for the next 12 hours. So, Jim said he would stay the night with her. She did have the extra bedroom with Erika's bed in there. Chris had called Hicks with the report. Let him know that Jim was going to stay there with her. So, they could be found there. They would not leave her apartment.

"Want to play a game?" Jim asks.

"What kind of game?" Chris asks.

"Do you not have some cards or board games?" Jim asks getting up and starting to look. Jim is going through the dining room when he notices something on the floor. He bends down to pick it up. It is a tie. "I think Jack left this behind." Jim says setting it on the table after he folds it up. Chris blushes and cannot look at Jim.

"That does not necessarily mean what you think." Chris says trying to make it look innocent.

"Oh. I see. I guess it is none of my business. We are not a thing. You are a big girl." Jim says clearing his throat.

"Yes I am. We have been dating for nearly two months. It happens." Chris says getting up to take care of the tie so it would not be in sight as a constant reminder. As she gets up, she gets a little dizzy. "Oh, wow. That has never happened before." Chris says reaching out to catch herself if she goes down. Jim rushes over to help her.

"Are you ok?" Jim asks holding one of her outstretched hands.

"Yeah, was just a little dizzy. That feels weird." Chris states and then walks over to the table when she was steady. She picks the tie up and goes into her bedroom to put the tie on her dresser. She comes out to find Jim looking through cabinets. "Street, calm down. The games are in the ottoman. Up against the wall there in the living room. Please stop looking through my stuff." Chris says.

"Ok. What do you want to play?" Jim asks walking over to the ottoman.

"Phase 10. For now. When I kick your butt, I get to choose the next game. Let us order some food too. I will put some music on." Chris says moving a little slower than she normally does. Jim orders the food. Chris gets to the radio and puts on one of the CDs Jim and her picked out together on a shopping trip they did a year ago. Then she does to grab the Phase 10 game taking it to the table. She takes the cards out and starts to shuffle them. Jim comes over to the table after he orders the food.

"You still like the number 5, right? With a green drink?" Jim asks, standing at the table.

"Yes, to both." Chris says.

"That is good. That is what I ordered. Sorry, I should have checked with you first. Which cupboard do you have your plates? And what drawer do you have your silverware and napkins? I will get them now so we can have them ready for the food. Then we can start playing. Do you have paper and a pen for the score? I want to have printed evidence that I kicked your butt in this game." Jim says teasing.

"The plates are in the cupboard above the microwave. The silverware is in the drawer next to the fridge. The napkins are in the drawer next to the stove. The paper and pen are next to the table right by the door. Where the phone used to be. I figured when the landline was in Erika's name and we disconnected it, I did not need a new one. I have my cell phone that is on my person 99% of the time. So why have the added expense." Chris states while shuffling the cards.

"When you live in a house or apartment with two people or more, it makes sense to have a landline with an answering machine. Alone, not so much. Landlines are almost nonexistent in homes. So, are you going to stay here and try to get a roommate? Or are you going to look for a new place?" Jim asks.

"I am going to try and stay without a roommate for the time being. It is too soon after Erika's death. I still have enough to keep going for a few more months. It should not be too hard to find someone to move in. It is a nice area and a great apartment. The place is big, and the rooms are roomy. Are you and Luca going to stay living together? You came close to moving in with Molly." Chris says.

"Luca and I are good with each other for now. If he dates someone for a while and it looks like they might make a commitment to each other, then I will find a new place." Jim says getting the dinning utensils and plates. Then brings them to the table.

They are into phase 3 when the food arrives. Jim goes to get the food. When he brings it to the table, Chris looks at the food and drinks. She gets a little sick to her stomach just looking at the food.

"I will have mine later. Just keep it in the container. I can heat it up later. Thanks." Chris says grabbing her cards and looks at them.

"Are you ok?" Jim asks taking the containers out of the bag.

"Yes, I am fine. Just the smell and look of the food has made my stomach flip flop. So maybe in a little while I will not feel so queasy." Chris comments as she tries not to look at the food. She cannot do anything about the smell. She tries to keep her mind on other things. Jim decides to not eat right at that time. He did not want to add to Chris' suffering.

"Will you be ok with your green drink or do you want me to put it in the fridge?" Jim asks.

"I will try the drink now. Thank you." Chris says reaching for the drink and straw.

"Did the doctor give you stuff for nausea?" Jim asks, going to her pills and looks at the few bottles that she had. With the pills before and now she has a nice pile building up. As he looks, he does not find what he thought he had heard the doctor mention.

"I thought he said he was going to prescribe me something, but I think there was that one and another that we did not get. Maybe they just were not ready yet." Chris says trying to breathe through the nausea.

"I will call the pharmacy to inquire. Just to make sure. If they did not get called in, then we can call the hospital and ask for them to call it in for you." Jim says picking up his phone and dialing the number on the bottle. "Hello. I need to see if there are any pending prescriptions still being filled for Christina Alonso." Jim says.

"Let me look sir." The lady on the phone says. It is quiet for a moment. "Nope. There is nothing here to be filled for her."

"Ok. Thank you. Can you tell me something I can use for nausea until I get a prescription called in? And what time do you close?" Jim asks.

"Ginger or ginger ale are about the only thing that are helpful on that. We close at 9pm. When you call the doctor tell him you are inquiring about Zofran. Ask him for the dissolvable kind. It works faster and you will not lose any of it if you happen to get sick." The lady says.

"Thank you. I will." Jim says hanging up. He then gets the paper from the ER and calls the nurse's line. He asks for the doctor to prescribe Zofran. Dissolvable tabs for Christina Alonso. While he is on the phone, Chris goes to the bathroom and gets sick. It causes her head to hurt worse. When Jim is off the phone, he comes to check on her.

"Chris, are you ok?" Jim asks concerned.

"Yeah. Give me a minute." Chris says then Jim can hear more vomiting. Which he knows cannot be good since she has only had a small breakfast and a small coffee early that morning. Then nothing all day. So, it might be dry heaving. It sounded so painful. Then Jim's phone rings. The Zofran was called in. Jim makes sure to ask if he should be concerned about Chris vomiting. He was told that if it repeats, then yes. But the pain would cause some nausea. Jim waits for Chris to come out before he decides what to do about picking up the med. But then Jim calls Vic to see if he can go pick it up and bring it. So, Jim would not have to leave Chris alone and they would not have to leave the apartment. Vic agrees. Chris comes out of the bathroom holding her head.

"I need a pain pill please." Chris says walking slowly to the table.

"If you take one, you have to eat something. Can you wait for Vic to bring the Zofran?" Jim asks hating seeing Chris hurt like this. The woman he loves is suffering.

"Yeah, just get me some water please." Chris says shaking a little. Once Chris has the cool bottle of water, she seems to calm down a little. The shaking lessens. They start to play cards while they wait for Vic.
