The blue sky stretched out before her. It had been so long since she'd been here. Cradled amongst the clouds. The only difference from the other times she did this, was that she wasn't dressed in a flite suit. Well, not a full suit, she still insisted on some kind of helmet. God, she missed this.
It was almost too much for her heart. She sighed deeply, reaching up and touching the small diamond inside of the golden pendent, that rested on her neck; it always gave her strength.
"Major Lee? Are you alright?" Ratchet asked through the f-18 black wasp's commlink, that she had apparently left on.
She shook her head before answering, knowing he was just trying to be polite even though she didn't possess the title anymore, "Yeah, Ratchet it's fine. It's just been a long time since I've been at the helm, and it's just kind of all coming back you know?"
"I suppose I can understand that." There was a moment of silence, "Has he tried anything yet?"
"For the hundredth time, no Ratchet," she paused, "You do realize that I have to focus on actually piloting the plane, and not answering your questions, right?" Nya snapped back. The line became silent.
Starscream would smile if he could in vehicle mode. The little quips she would make. She didn't take anyone's scrap, which included him. There had been many times in the barn where she would put him in his place, using very colorful English but she was never too harsh. Preferring to use clever words rather than volume. Especially when she realized how bad he really was at socializing.
The open blue sky embraced them and the cool whipping winds slipped past their wings. Of course, Nya couldn't feel it the exact same way he could, with her not actually being the jet she was piloting, but he knew she was enjoying this. Probably more than he was. He couldn't enjoy it; he was in too much shock that he was actually in this situation. That he was actually flying beside her into battle. He didn't know how Nya had convinced the Autobots to actually allow him to asset with this mission. Once again, he had underestimated her. Taking on vehicons, holding a firearm to Arcee, and now convincing the autobots to give him a chance. She was truly marvelous.
And what did he give her in return? Nothing. Well, nothing good. He was sure that any minute now her kind, silver-tongued persona would melt away into nothing but pure hatred for him.
"Starscream?" Nya voice came through the com linking them.
"This was it. The moment I lose her," he thought before answering, "Yes?"
"Are you alright?" she asked.
Okay this was unexpected.
"Of course." He quickly said, thinking of all the ways this could go wrong.
"You're a good liar Starscream, but you're not that good. What's wrong?" she said, her voice coming off as concerned, rather than angered. He knew better though; it was so easy for people to hide their true intentions.
"Nothing is wrong."
"That's a load of scrap and you know it. You can tell me. What's going on?"
"Nothing is going on! What make you even think that in the first place!?" he snapped, and then mentally slapped himself in the faceplate. He'd snapped at her; any hope of her forgiving him had definitely been fired out of the airlock now.
"Well, for one," she started, not sounding any bit agitated, much to Starscream's shock and continued confusion, "You're being very quiet, when back in the barn you were nearly blabbering nonstop. Two we had just gotten out of one dangerous situation and are currently flying into another. I wanted to check up on you."
"You're not upset?"
"No, of course not. Why do you think I'd be?"
Scrap! "I-I had said that out loud?"
"Yes, you did…and what you had just said was also out loud, if you were wondering."
His line of the comms went silent once more. Why wasn't she upset? This didn't make any sense. He felt so confused. Sure, he was glad that she wasn't upset with him, but at the same time he almost wished she was, at least then he wouldn't be so confused! Either way he needed to apologize.
He internally sighed, "Nya?"
"Yeah?"
Primus why was this so hard! "I'm…"
Suddenly the commlink to the main base came back online.
"Frag everything!" Starscream thought.
"You're approaching the coordinates. There has been reported activity in the area, so keep your optics open. Major Lee when you enter the mine field, you need to locate the safe route. We will be able to see you on satellite and mark out the route." Ratchet's voice came through.
"Roger that," she sighed, "I'm sorry Starscream, we got a job to do. We'll talk after, I promise." The comms cut out.
Starscream while disappointed, knew he could trust her; she always kept her word. She was honest, sometimes to a fault. He turned his attention back to the forest below them. The swirling grey mist drowning out the tree tops; everything seemed untrustworthy.
Space folded on itself as a large swirling green portal opened. The sound cut through the wild forest. A large green mech exited with gusto, making the nearby flora sway and dance.
Bulkhead glanced around, his blasters drawn, "Clear!"
The other autobots quickly filed out of the portal. Bumblebee whirled, at the many colorful plants surrounding them.
"You're right Bee this place is pretty," Said Smokescreen, glancing around.
The bright greens and the dark browns gave a 'lost temple adventure' atmosphere. The multiple amounts of exotic flowers added splashes of vibrant colors. Smokescreen being new to the organic planet found it wild, chaotic and beautiful.
"Be on your guard, we're on possibly volatile land and sightings of decepticons have been reported nearby." Optimus spoke, as he exited the ground bridge.
Drawing their weapons everyone readied themselves.
Optimus, leaned back into his commlink, "Major Lee, we are at the edge of the mine field. Have you recalled the safe route through the mines?"
"Give me a second. We just got here, and it's been a while." She glanced over out at the minefield below.
It was just as she remembered. The ground, in sharp contrast to the lush green forest surrounding it, was dry, cracked, and barren, maybe a dead stump here or there. The metal used to construct the fatal explosives that rested just beneath the surface, had poisoned the soil. It had been years, maybe decades since any sort of plant life had been able to grown there.
In the center of it all was the abandoned base. Built of harden stone and thick metal, now cracked and half-rusted. Far from what it once was, especially since whatever psycho that had planted the mines was running it.
Nya eyes darted around, looking at the ground through the glass of her cockpit. She shook her head and looked again, trying to remember where the safe route was. Dang it! Had the crash messed up her brain more than she thought?
"Nya?" she heard Starscream through the comms.
"Just a second," She answered.
She banked right. Around a…Wait that boulder was familiar! She glanced back at the giant rock, then to the mine field. Bingo!
"Nya to Optimus. Are you at the edge of the mine field?"
"That is correct." Optimus Answered, waiting for the pilot the answer.
"Okay. Do you see the giant rock? Like near fifty feet tall and shaped like a bunny."
An odd question, "Affirmative."
"Look at the ground next to it there should be a smaller stone, perfectly round and shaped like an egg…"
Optimus, and the others (Nya was on speaker) turned their attention to the ground below. Sure enough, there was a perfectly round, egg-shaped stone sitting at the base of the large accidental bunny looking statue.
"There should be more. You just have to follow them, and stick close. If you don't well…I don't think I need to explain that." Nya finished into the comm, before flicking it off. She sighed, and leaned back into her seat, relishing what was, most likely, the last few moments or peace before the inevitable attack.
"It is a good thing that you were able to recall those stones." Starscream said through the comms.
"Yeah, I guess it was, but I can't lie, with how messed up my head is, I really thought I wouldn't," Nya answered.
"You thought you possibly couldn't have the necessary information for this mission? Yet, you still decided to risk your life for this? To possibly die a painful fiery death?"
"That's a bit of a morbid way to put it but, yeah. Why?"
"Uhm, No reason."
Starscream retreated into his thoughts once more. Nya might not have been able to help yet she still decided to continue with this mission. Why? So, she could fly again? He'd probably do the same if he had been grounded for as long as she had been. Then why did she convince the autobots to allow him to asset? Surely, if she was only after the sky, she wouldn't ask from him to be, as she put it, her 'wingman'.
"Alright considering we having been fired upon yet what did you want to talk about earlier?" Nya jumped in.
"I… uhm…Well…"
Sudden thunderclaps raddled through the air, as multiple jets, that were clearly of alien origin, broke the sound barrier around them. Shockwaves and sharp winds raddled Nya's and Starscream's wings.
"SCRAP!" Starscream cursed as he tried not to fall out of the sky.
Weapon fire quickly started to rain down on them. Nya gripped the controls and began to twist and spin the between hailstorm of hot plasma. She pulled up her nose making a sharp upturn, and slowed herself before sending fire from the pit down onto the flyers.
Starscream stared in awe at her movements. Smooth and precise. Maybe a little shaky, but that could be appointed to the time she spent away from the cockpit. He wasn't wrong to call her a seeker. She didn't deserve anything less.
"We're going to have to talk about this later, Screamer. I'll try to lead half of them off your tail. Good luck and don't get shot." She sent a few more shots and ended up hitting one's missile blowing it out of the sky. Then she took a sharp turn right.
A squadron of vehicon flyers had been deployed a few miles ahead of the nemesis. Their mission, locate the exact coordinates found in the file, once done their grounder brothers would join them for a more thorough search.
The wind turned and twisted against their wings as they sliced through the atmosphere. All had been calm until, two heat signatures suddenly popped onto the radar. One familiar, one unknown. It wasn't long until they had reached their destination, and found the signatures in person.
22-B, the squadron leader, nearly fell from the sky when she recognizing the F-16 flying not too far away. She activated her com.
"This is Air leader 22-B, I have recent information regarding the current mission," said a voice through the bridge's comms.
"Patch them through," Megatron spoke suddenly.
"We have sighted two flyers, one of them Starscream."
The whole bridge froze.
Megatron walked over to the comm system, "Repeat the report."
"We have located two flyers in the area, one of them Starscream."
So, he lived through the explosion. "And the second?"
"Unknown."
"Did the autobots come across another flyer?" Knockout asked.
Megatron faceplate twisted, as it ran through the possibilities. The possibility of the autobots finding another flyer, while unlikely, wasn't impossible. If they did happen to come across a stray pod; it would be a sudden and small miracle that the nemesis's scanners didn't pick it up. No, something else was going on here.
"Are they a Seeker?" he finally asked.
"Unknown, I cannot be certain of their ran-" A sudden explosion sounded "-Definitely a seeker."
Nya swerved right and left. A group of flyers trailing behind her, and surrounded by laser fire. One of the flyers tried to pull head of her, but he too fast to avoid one of the taller trees that was ahead of him. This made her wonder who trained these guys. Sure, she could see, in between the shots that they were some talented gems in the armada but it was clear that some were trained more than others.
A bright flash exceled passed her right wing. Too close. She dipped to the right barrel rolling to avoid any more shots. Thankful that her stomach didn't weaken in her absence from the controls, she took a deep breath and lowered the nose. The grey airship, slipped beneath the lower canopy; a dangerous move with the thick foliage, but it was the only way she could think of to get these guys off her tail quickly.
The trees came flying at her, quickly and unrelenting. Her hands were gripping the controls and constantly in motion, to keep in time with the forest. Several times the large trunks nearly hit her wings. The laser fire never seized. Flip left. Spin right. Don't panic. Her knuckles began to grow white.
The sudden sound of an explosion rang out form behind her. Someone had panicked.
She suddenly pulled from, the canopy. Her wrists were going to be sore in the morning. That little fly through the woods had picked off a few of them, but now there were only ones who were able to keep up with her.
What was her play? She could make a sharp turn and feed them shots, but that was too reckless and predictable. She had to assume that they were more maneuverable than her and had years of experienced. Never underestimate a pilot you haven't seen fly before. She had to do something they wouldn't expect. Wait…
"Come in base!"
Fowler answered the com, "Lee what's your situation?"
"Is there a lake or any kind of water source nearby?"
Fowler pulled a confused face, before looking over to Raf, "Umm…Raf?"
"I got it." A quick look into the available satellites, and he managed to get a bird's eye view of the battle field, in real time. A large but clearly shallow lake was close by, "Got one! There's a shallow lake about a quarter of a mile ahead of you. A little too your left."
"Copy that," Nya said turning the comm off again, and veered left. The lake soon came into her view. It had been so long since she'd done this. Praying for muscle memory, she began to descend.
"Okay, Nya. This could be it any last words?" she took a deep breath, "Yeah, I really wished I had a better idea than this."
She continued to descend until the belly of her jet was close to the lake's surface. She took a deep breath, glancing at the radar one last time. She jerked the controls hard, causing the jet to spin. The wings dug deep in to the surface of the water, causing it to become murky and fling it behind her. The muddy water flung on to the flyers blinding them. She quickly pulled up, made a sharp turn and pulled the trigger.
The flyers went up in smoke and the lake turned brown with murky waves. She sighed, "Alright now… air support."
A sudden and larger explosion sounded in the distance.
Large frantic footsteps began to litter the dry dead ground as the autobots made their way across the minefield. Vehicon troopers were quick to intercept them. Everyone quickly learned that they had to be careful where they aimed, as one stray shot ended up striking the ground, setting off several of the mines, and earning quite a few curse words. Though this didn't really stop anyone from shooting.
"Optimus!" Smokescreen called out, "The flyers may be off our tail for now but these guys, even after they saw the mines blow aren't lighting up!"
"Push forward and continue on the route," Optimus spoke, returning fire.
Another stray shout struck the ground, triggering three more mines. These closer to the autobots. The bright plumes of hot yellow and white flames blew the autobots in different directions. Triggering even more mines.
Starscream, zipped through clouds and slipped in between blaster fire. His former generals were good, but not as good as him. Sharp turns made it easy to lose the lesser flyers, but the others were harder to shake.
One reckless flyer gave up on trying to shoot Starscream down and increase his speed. He accepted the challenge. He let the reckless flyer come closer and closer. Closer. His metal suddenly shifted and stretched as he switched to his robot mode. In one swift movement he fell back beneath the flyer and shot him out of the sky. Then switched back into vehicle mode, to avoid the rapidly approaching ground and debris.
That maneuver, while stylish, was inefficient. He needed a way to make this quick. He didn't like the idea of Nya being out there on her own, especially during an attack. Sure, after seeing her fly, he knew she could handle herself, but last time he had left alone she was taken hostage. Now, she is of no use, meaning if they caught her, they wouldn't hesitate to kill her.
A single sound suddenly rang out. An explosion.
The comm suddenly activated, "STARSCREAM WHERE ARE YOU?!" Nya...
He suddenly began to move once more, and frantically tried to open up his side of the comms. "Nya?"
"Oh, thank heaven you weren't blown out of the sky."
"Are you alright?" he quickly ducked a blast that came so close he could feel the heat coming from it.
"I'm great. Everyone else? Not so much. The Cons hit at least ten mines and blew everyone across the mine field. I'm trying to get a few them off their backs, so they can regroup in a safe zone, but It's kind of difficult to shoot and not blow everyone up again. How you holding up?"
"Currently dodging laser fire from all directions."
"Why are you talking to me?! You need to focus on not getting shot!"
"I was concerned!"
"And so am I! How many do you got on your tail? Do you need back up?"
"About six and if I needed backup, I doubt at the moment you are able to provide it."
"Can't say you're wrong,"
"Do you have any ideas one how to get out of our predicaments?"
"I think I have one. It's crazy but it could work."
"How crazy?"
"Scale of 1 to 10? Maybe a 7."
He didn't really know what 'scale of 1 to 10' meant so that answer didn't really help him, "Allow me to rephrase. Are we going to die?"
"If we time this right? No."
"And if we don't?"
"Uhm… do you want me to answer that?"
He sighed, "Alright let's do it."
"Wait really?"
"I don't have any better ideas at the moment and you asked me to trust you."
"Alright start leading your hostiles towards my location," he was about to ask for the reason, but she beat him to it, "We're gonna need them."
Nya was flying over the battlefield. Half of the troops aiming at her and the other focusing on the autobots. She was scared to shoot. She knew from experience how unstable this area was. As much as she wanted to pick off a few of their numbers, she couldn't risk this crazy plan or hers.
"How far are you out?" she opened comm.
"About a breem." Starscream answered
"In English!"
"About 5 earth minutes! Now, are you going to tell me what this great plan of yours is?"
"You're going to slow down slightly over the grounder troops, and lure your flyers over them. I'll use one of my missiles to blow the mines beneath them. The following explosion should be large enough to take them all out in one hit."
"And what about a certain Seeker that might be close enough to be caught in said explosion? I don't want to die mind you."
"You're not going to die. I'll give you a count down. On three you go full blast and book it out of there. Alright?"
He sighed, "Alright, I'll get in position."
Nya nodded a cut the call, before opening another channel, but with Optimus. The other needed to know. If they were going to do this, the others needed to be clear. This explosion would definitely be deadly. No doubt.
"Nya to Optimus."
The raining plasma, was hot and quick. Dodging was difficult but not impossible. His movements were like of a dancer, constantly aware and in motion. He'd glance at his soldiers every few moments, but eventually he would have to refocus on his fight. Blazing plumes of hot fire would suddenly rush out the ground unexpectedly. He had to stay on the safe path.
"Nya to Optimus."
He activated his comm, "I am here Nya. What is your situation?"
"Me and Starscream have a plan. It's risky but if we can get it to work, this fight will be over in a matter of seconds."
He fired shots of burning blue plasma at the incoming troops, noting the jet flying above him, trying to slow the fire down. "and what would this plan entail?"
"I know you probably don't trust him, but you need to trust me on this. You need the others clear. When this thing goes up in smoke no one will want to be near it."
He slowly nodded, "Understood." He closed the comm, "Autobots, continue down the path!"
She sighed as the comm line cut. Now or never.
"You ready Starscream?"
"I'm in position, just don't kill me."
She yanked hard on the controls, turning sharply. Gaining altitude, she looked behind her; she saw him. Another sharp turn, and she was inline. Her fingers resting lightly on the trigger.
Starscream swiftly turned, seeing the battlefield before him. The fire from his pursers had not seized. The wind suddenly felt cold. The large number of vehicons suddenly felt vastly overwhelming. Was this how the autobots always felt?
He glanced to the right. There she was in the sky where she belonged. Also, in her position. He somehow felt her nod of approval even though he could not see her.
He accelerated.
Was it seconds? It felt like hours, until he was over the fleet. She took a deep breath; it came down to this crazy idea. She pulled the trigger.
One of her missiles lunched her jet's underbelly. It's heat tracker turned off as to not get distracted from the other sources and miss its target. The atmosphere streaked passed it. Its small burning tail flame flickered wildly. A few stopped to stare, and then…it struck the ground.
Rubble flew into the sky with mighty boulders and suffocating dust. As enraged gold and scarlet flames burst from the ground, threating to melt anyone to dare cross their paths. Smoke and death screamed from the battlefield. Nothing could have survived.
The shockwaves were quick to hunt down their prey. They raddled Nya's wings and threating to push her out of the sky but she managed to stead herself. She glanced back to see what carnage she had created.
No Trooper stood alive. It was nothing but black charred broken land and melted metallic corpses, that were slowly turning gun metal grey. But just beyond the destruction, there they were, five figures. Banged up but alive. She felt relief wash over her, but were was…?
A flash of silver suddenly rushed past her. It was so close she was lucky it didn't rip her wing off. What was it? She didn't want to find out. Her grip on the controls tightened, and she began to make sharp turns. Trying to evade whatever was after her.
*Chuh chuh cheh!*
What was that? The screeching sound of tearing and ripping metal filled her ears. She looked to her right.
Her right wing was gone.
Starscream wanted to scream in terror or curse to the allspark, either would have worked. Though he was too busy focusing on not being burnt to a crisp by the most tremendous explosion he'd ever seen. His jets were overheating from working overtime, and his wings felt stiff as they desperately struggled to stay in the air. The wind was harsh as he fought against it.
Heat from the flames warmed his entire frame, threating to melt it. Suddenly its clawing scorching touch, vanished only to be replaced, with cold air that was at first chilling. As if he'd been splashed with water. He lost control, forcing him to his robot mode. He rolled as his momentum continued to push him forward, but he did not crash.
By some miracle he managed to find his footing and landed. He slid backwards in a crouching position. His claws digging in to the dirt. He vented heavily. He was alive? He was alive! He survived! Sure, cheating death was not new to him but this was definitely one of his greater accomplishments. Relief washed over him; he couldn't tell whether he wanted to laugh or cry.
He stood up, looking to the sky, only to have his relief replaced by utter horror. His wings dropped. There was Nya's jet falling out of the sky. The right wing was completely torn off. She was caught in a tail spin heading towards the ground at an alarming rate. It was only a matter of moments before the sickening sound of the crash was heard, as she struck the top of a nearby plateau.
He couldn't move. Why couldn't he move? It was like all his servos sudden decided to lock up. It was within a few moments before he was suddenly in the air flying towards her. He couldn't remember when or how he'd taken off.
He was met with a gruesome sight when he touched down. The once proud and fast jet was nothing but a heap of scrap metal. Scorched and dented. Small fires littered the sight. The ground scarred where the vessel had scraped as it crashed. The atmosphere was deadly silent.
Nya…
No human could have survived this. His spark shattered as he fell to his knees. He did this. He should have just let himself bleed out that night. He shouldn't have tried to fly away. He shouldn't have tried to call for help. But he was so scared of death that he did…and that got the only person who cared about him…
He glanced back at the wreak. Her smile, her laugh, gone. She was innocent! She was never supposed to be wrapped up in this war! She was never supposed to meet him. She had only given him kindness and what did he give her? Nothing! Like everyone else he's ever had in his life he'd only taken from her. Only this time he took her life.
Warm oily golden tears, swelled in his burning red optics and streamed across his face plate, but he couldn't care less. He's wings drooped more than ever. She was gone. He hadn't been able to give her the least she deserved. An apology.
The sound of a jet engine rang through the air. A T-cog activating, and the all too familiar sound of someone landing.
A deep metallic cry of laugher, confirmed his fear, he glanced back…Megatron.
The silver titan roared with laughter once more, "Oh, what a sight this is! Starscream, the great air commander of the energon seekers mourning over the crash of the only seeker left besides himself. It must have been so exciting for you to discover you weren't the last. Then fate had them fall on their very first mission. Disappointing really."
Megatron's faceplate twisted into a sickening smirk as he approached to stand over the weeping flyer, "But you want know something even more pitiful? The fact that you actually let yourself care for them. What were you trying to get out of this Starscream? Recognition? To prove that you couldn't fail? Or perhaps maybe…companionship?" he paused chuckling, "No, that couldn't be it. What desperate individual would ever learn to care for someone like you? And if they did, then they would be even more pitiful and worthless than you at this moment…"
Black claws suddenly slashed up the silver warlord's chassis, and then a strong blow was landed on his back, causing him to stumble forward a few steps. Megatron quickly turned around, seeing…Starscream?
The seeker, stared the warlord down. Rage burning through his piercing red optics. He could live with Megatron insulting him, but he couldn't live with him insulting… He had just lashed out at a gladiator of kaon. He was probably going to die, but at this point the only person who cared about him was gone, and he'd probably would spend the rest of his life as a prisoner anyway. What did he have left to lose?
Megatron's face grimaced, "Alright then. I now realize I should have done a long time ago."
The warlord drew his sword, and slashed at the smaller frame. Swiftly, Starscream slipped in between each strike. Left. Right. Jump. Duck. Eventually he had enough, it was his turn to strike. He slipped nimbly under Megatron's blade and in turn used his own talons to slice through his wrist, drawing energon. The seeker slid forward about 8 feet before activated his t-cog and taking to the sky. If he was going down, he was going down like a Seeker should, flying.
He could hear Megatron growling as he took to the sky. He glanced back, the fragger didn't even bother to transform mand chase him. Then the blasts from the fusion cannon came. The hot purple plasma came fast and frequent. Every shot intending to kill the seeker. Starscream was able to move his wings with enough precision and speed to dodge very one. Thought some came closer than others, those would slip by him leaving his metal hot. It hurt, but right now he could barely feel it.
The plasma was relentless, eager to kill its prey. But in one quick second the seeker had managed to line up a single shot, and he took it. His last missile detached and the explosive flew to its target ending its journey in a fiery plume. The smoke cleared, reveling the new grimace of hate on the warlord's face. It wasn't two kilks till Megatron was in the air.
Starscream sharply turned right, as the barrage of blaster fire recontinued. Turning, twisting, turning, twisting. This seemed to be the new normal. This dance of death they were both entrapped in. One trying to end the other, and one trying not to bring shame to what could be his last moments. This continued…until it didn't.
Starscream's comm link suddenly opened, and that split moment of distraction, was all Megatron needed. A burst of hot plasma suddenly enveloped Starscream's left wing. White burning pain grasped his entire side and sent him spinning towards the ground. To decrease what damage he could, he switched to robot mode, causing to bounce and roll across the dry dirt as he struck ground. When he finally stopped, he was stuck on his back, right next to the most debris in…Her…crash site.
He tried to sit up only to be shoved back down; crushed under the heel of Megatron himself. His vents were suddenly forced to release any air that was cooling his overheating frame, and everything felt like it was slowly being crushed into itself. He tried to gasp, but it was hopeless. He could do nothing but lie there, unable to move or vent only wait for the undoubtfully painful end.
"Well, this has certain been an interesting day to say the least, hasn't it?" Megatron started, "To think only mere hours ago I was holding a creature you cared about and you went rushing to autobots for help. Now? You're siding with them. I honestly thought that it was a mutual one-time agreement that they would help you, yet now I see what it truly is. A ploy pulled by a starving worthless con. You've always been pathetic, but now you have truly become a failure. Not just to the decepticons and your own kind, but to that little human you care for. I wager you promised to protect her? To return to her? You will die here, and fail her with your death. Just as you have failed everyone else in your life."
Warm oily tears slipped from the seeker eyes. Megatron wasn't wrong, he had failed her. He had failed to protect her. Just as he'd failed to lead the decepticons. Just as he'd failed to protect his trine. Just as he'd failed to save Vos. Just as he'd failed to find Jetfire. He would always fail what he'd care for most.
Megatron smiled sickly, when he saw the tears slip down Starscream's faceplate. Once more he'd been successful in breaking the former commander's spirit, and for the last time. He aimed his fusion cannon.
"You'll always be nothing but a parasite. Farewell Commander," the sound of a gunshot rang, and the warlord flinched as something struck his faceplate.
Wait…a gunshot?
Starscream quickly swerved his helm to look above him. He felt his spark race in its chamber. It's could be…yet it was. There, leaning against what was once her jet's haul was Nya.
Her flesh, was splashed with purple splotches that could only be human bruises, and split open in serval places leaking a red fluid that stained her clothes. Her hair was wild and she was shaking. She leaned with only one foot supporting her the other remain drifting just above the ground. She was hurt, but she was alive.
Starscream, while ecstatic that she wasn't dead, knew that wouldn't last long with Megatron standing so close to her. He noticed that the weight of Megatron's ped had lightened just enough for him to be able to wriggle his servo out and switched it to his null ray.
Megatron still too preoccupied with comprehending the fact that a weak fleshy organic, not only had the bearings to shoot at him, but did said act, to noticed Starscream's movements before red plasma was fired in his face. The warlord stumbled back, but recovered before the seeker regained his footing. His servo managed to latch onto the injured wing. His digits digging into the burnt armor as he flung the seeker behind him.
Starscream had screeched with pain from the moment the warlord managed to grab him, to the moment he'd stopped rolling on the ground. Primus that hurt! He shut his optics, but opened them again the moment he heard a scream. A very familiar scream. One that made he energon run cold. Nya.
He looked up ahead of him, only to see being crushed in the metal fist of Megatron. She was screaming and tears could be seen leaking from her organic optics. Megatron gave him one last smirk before throwing her off the edge of the plateau.
"NO!" Starscream screeched as he dove after her.
He barely heard the autobots ground bridging onto the scene before he was gone. He activated his t-cog and within moments was using his jets to speed towards the ground. He opened his canopy and at the last second, he pulled up and caught her. He would have yelped at the unnatural feeling of someone in his cockpit if he wasn't so relieved.
Nya gasped before coughing, "When I open my eyes this better not be some kind of con," she coughed again.
"Not exactly a con," Starscream answered, he could feel her shaking.
She opened her eyes, "Starscream?"
"The one and only."
"Hallelujah!" and she began to laugh as more tears came to her eyes.
"Are you alright?"
"Physically, emotionally, or psychologically?"
"You're crying."
"I was just thrown off a cliff, nearly crushed, and got in a plane crash. I'm crying because I'm not dead! They're happy tears! As for the rest of me I'm pretty sure I've shattered my entire lower right leg." She took a deep breath, and coughed.
"And I-" her vision began to grow hazy.
"And I-" her ears started to ring.
"Nya?" Starscream called out.
A sharp pain suddenly seized her chest. Burning, boiling, stinging pain. Everything suddenly felt tight, as if she was still in Megatron's grasp. Her vision began to blur further, turning once more into a soup of colors only this time more violent. Her limbs went numb. She couldn't breathe. She felt dizzy. Sick. Dying.
The last thing she mumbled was, "Sorry."
And Starscream felt her go limp in his cockpit.
A/N:
Hello! My loyal viewers! This is the exciting climax of 'A Fallen Star' and I hope I didn't disappoint. If there's one thing I don't like it is a story with an underwhelming ending (well that and bees...heat…a lot of things now that I thing about it) so I hope this was worth the wait and don't worry it epilogue will be coming out this weekend. Speaking of the epilogue I have a very important announcement to make! I will be holding a pole on my account on for my next transformers story, so please participate in that. You will have three choices and they are…
1) A g1 Rodimus Prime story
2) A Beastwars Cheetor story
And requested frequently by cover artist and messager…
3) a TFA/TFP crossover with the Jettwins (Note: this story will be a non-canon continuation of A Fallen Star)
I will announce the winner in the epilogue.
