April 3rd Davenport Lab (Maddie's POV)-
"Guys, I have a bad feeling. Let's get out of here." Bree said to Adam and Chase from inside the simulation. Adam picked up the rebel leader and threw him across the lot.
"Adam, that was the Rebel Leader. The whole purpose of today's mission simulation was to interrogate him." Davenport said, as the three stepped off the simulation pad.
"I did, and his answer was, "Aaaaah!"" He explained smiling.
"Hey, next time could you maybe throw in a cute, blue-eyed rebel?" Bree added, "What? I'm just sayin'. It's not gonna kill you to add a little somethin'-somethin' for the ladies." We gave each other a sly fist bump.
"Step aside, amateurs. Go ahead, Big D. Set it to awesome." Leo jumped onto the simulator.
"Leo, these goggles are not a toy." I grabbed the goggles from Leo's hands.
"Come on! My birthday's coming up-- Globally known as "Dia De Leo.""
"No. I designed the mission simulator to fine-tune their bionics, not to go on 3-D joyrides. Besides, you're not trained for it." Davenport explained.
"Well, how about as a birthday gift you give me a bionic ability?" Leo tried.
"Or he could gift-wrap reality and you could play with that for a while." I added and Chase came to stand next to me.
"So Leo's having a birthday. What are you, like, nine?" He snickered.
"Fourteen." Leo corrected. We laughed.
"No, seriously." He added and I backhanded his shoulder, hiding my laugh.
"So how are you gonna celebrate?" Bree asked.
"We're all going to celebrate. Every year my mom throws me a big surprise party." Leo started.
"Really?" Adam asked.
"Last year she baked a cake the size of me. I'm not gonna brag, but I was delicious." He explained as Tasha came down to the lab.
"Guess what? I just found out that I won an award for my undercover reporting on expired produce: "Something in the crisper can kill you.""
"Congratulations! That's so great!" Davenport said, hugging her.
"Oh, thank you. But the awards banquet is the same night as Leo's birthday. I'm sorry, honey. I'm gonna miss it. If I don't show up, I'm afraid that they're gonna give my award to that overdramatic screen hog Linda Montieres." She said with conviction.
"It's okay, mom. Go have fun. You deserve it. Hey." Leo pushed.
"I thought she was gonna throw you a party. I was promised a party!" Bree exclaimed.
"Every year she comes up with this lame excuse to make me think she's not throwing me a party. Award? Please. Have you seen her reporting?"
"Leo, are you sure you're not mad? We've never been apart on your birthday." Tasha worried.
"Oh, please! He'll have plenty of birthdays, but who knows if you'll ever win anything again." Adam added.
"Mom, go get your award." Leo said, playing along, then coughed, "Chocolate frosting!"
"I promise we will celebrate the following night." This is real. Tasha isn't this great of a liar, Leo's not getting his birthday party.
"Hey, why haven't we ever had a birthday party?" Bree asked. She made a good point.
"Donald! You never celebrated their birthdays?" Tasha reprimanded.
"Of course I celebrated their birthdays. Remember when we-- When we went to the-- Yeah, I never celebrated their birthdays."
"Did you also eat all the cookies before Santa came down the chimney?" She added.
"No he always ate them while he gave out presents." I added He glared at me as they left.
"This is going to be the best birthday ever. The size of the party is equal to the size of the excuse. I'm gonna go work on my surprised face." Leo said, running out of the Lab.
"Whoo-hoo! Leo's having a surprise party!" Adam cheered.
"Adam, if Leo was having a surprise party, don't you think we'd be invited?" Chase added, being on the same page as me.
"Yeah, you're right. Who does Tasha think she is not inviting us?" Adam still not understanding.
"No. Tasha and Davenport really are going to an awards ceremony." I explained, and he nodded in understanding.
"This is horrible. Leo's gonna be so disappointed." Bree said.
"Unless we throw him a surprise party and invite everyone from school." Chase added.
"Well, what do we know about throwing a surprise party?" Bree asked.
"Well, if it was me, I'd want a bouncy house. And a piñata. Wait. And a clown. No, wait. Put the piñata on the clown, in the bouncy house, and hit everything at once. Candy's bound to come out of somewhere." Adam explained.
"Ooh! Let's invite Glitterhead! You know that internet star who sings her songs in sign language. You might have heard of her latest CD-- "Talk to the hand."" Bree said with the talk to the hand gesture.
"No, no, no. Leo would want something cool at his party, like those sci-fi mutants from his favorite television show. Shark Man! And Flipper Boy!" Chase explained.
"That's your favorite TV show." I said looking at him.
"It could be his also." he argued.
"Ya know, Leo's a great brother. Why don't we just give him all three?" Bree asked.
"Whoo-hoo! Yeah! We're havin' a party! Leo's gonna be so surprised. I'm gonna go tell him." Adam cheered.
"Adam." Chase said stopping Adam in his tracks.
"Oh, right. Well, I'm going to go tell Leo he's not having a surprise party. That was close. He almost found out."
"Don't say anything to Leo, Adam. Just stay in the Lab." I said, grabbing my backpack. "I'm gonna head home. I need to finish making Leo's birthday present." I gave them a wave and left the Lab.
April 4th Volt Lair (Maddie's POV)-
"Tessa, Dear?" I was currently finishing Leo's birthday present in my workshop, listening to my music. "Would you mind contacting Chase to let him know I will be over to their house soon?"
"Right away Boss." She hummed
I wanted Leo's present to be perfect, I was hoping we could start becoming better friends. Maybe this could help. The present was a watch but it had its own little AI, Artie. It was similar to a smartwatch but I added a few features. It had a panic button, cause it's Leo, and a holo-projector. I snapped in the final piece of the casing and turned on the watch.
"Artie?" I tried. The watch buzzed to life and a small robotic icon came up to show Artie.
"Hello mam'!" He said excitedly. He kinda had a kid in a candy store energy.
"Tess I need you to run a full diagnostics test on the watch and Artie's system. Let me know how everything's running, and be nice to your little brother." I said pointedly.
"Of course, diagnostic exam running." She sounded with what sounded like annoyance. "The system is one hundred percent operable and ready for use." She answered a minute later.
I grabbed the watch, placed it in the box I made for it, and took it with me to wrap it. Leo should like it at the very least. Once I had it wrapped I made my way to the Davenport house for the party.
Davenport Lab (No one's POV)-
"Wait a second. How are we gonna get all these balloons upstairs without Leo noticing?" Chase asked Adam.
"Oh, no problem." Adam began to pop all the balloons that they had just blown up, making the last thirty minutes pointless. They grabbed all the remains of the balloons as Leo came in.
"Guys, my mom's actually going to an awards banquet. She's not throwing me a surprise party." He realized.
"Oh, no! That's awful! We gotta go." Chase exclaimed, running from the lab.
"Later, bro." Adam followed.
"Hey, where you goin'? It's my birthday!" Leo watched the Lab doors close in front of him not noticing Maddie coming in from behind.
"Eddy, we're moving the party prep upstairs. Keep Leo in the lab until I give you the signal." Chase commanded.
"Wait. So you want me to hold the poor kid against his will? I'm in!" He said purposely leaving out the fact that Maddie was now in the lab. The truth is Eddy knew that the two were dating because he has eyes on everything, but he wanted to save that information to mess with them. Like in the situation he was currently in.
"Eddy, open these doors." Leo commanded from the other side.
"Oh, but if I did that, I'd ruin the surprise party they're planning for you." Eddy argued.
"They're throwing me a surprise party?" He still hadn't noticed Maddie behind him.
"Why would you do that? You just had to ruin the surprise didn't you?" Maddie asked, startling Leo.
"Yeah, short stack. Any who, the party's being thrown by a bunch of lame-o's. I wouldn't expect much." He added.
"That's it!" Maddie fumed. Before Leo could react she was at her desk typing something in. She hit enter smiling maliciously and turned to look at Eddy. His animation was now dressed as a female clown with a rainbow afro and clown dress.
Davenport Lab (Maddie's POV)-
"What is taking them so long? Eddy, bring up the great room on the monitor. What?!" Leo yelled in shock. On the monitor you could see the raging party that was going on upstairs. I looked up from my spot by the cyber desk, sitting in my rolly chair feet up on the console. "Eddy, unlock this door." Leo commanded.
"Not until I get the signal. Otherwise it could ruin the surprise." Eddy taunted.
"Oh go suck eggs." I exclaimed to Eddy before shutting off his screen.
"Suck eggs?" Leo asked. I just shrugged walking over to grab Leo's gift from my bag.
"Happy birthday Leo." I held out the small box for him.
"You got me a birthday present?" He asked incredulously. "I didn't think you even liked me."
"Do you want it or not?" I asked pushing the box closer to him.
"Yeah, thanks." He said warily, suspicious of the gift. He opened it slowly ripping off the paper before opening the box. He looked confused. "A watch?"
"A smartwatch." I corrected, as he removed it from the case. "It has most of the regular features a regular smartwatch would have but with a few bonus features. The watch has it own AI custom built for you, say hello Artie-"
"Hey Miss Maddie, Hi Boss." He said to us.
"It was a holographic projector," I pressed a button on the side and it projected a 3-D image of Artie, "and if you hold down on the main screen for five seconds it becomes a panic button." I explained. I finally looked up to Leo to see him speechless. Did he not like it?
As I began to panic Leo's arms wrapped around me quickly before breaking away. "This is the coolest present I've ever gotten! Thank you!" He cheered.
"I'm glad you like it." I laughed.
"Why Artie?" He asked.
"It's an anonym. It means A Rather Tiny Intelligent Entity." I explained. We continued to mess with the watch burning through the time stuck in the lab.
Davenport House (Chase's POV)-
The party had died down to a finish after three hours, leaving just Adam, Bree, and I in the living room. We were hanging out sitting on the couch as Adam tried to reinflate the bounce house by blowing it up himself.
"How's it looking, guys?" He turned to us checking his progress.
"Almost there. Keep going." I teased looking at the completely deflated bounce house laying on the floor. Just then the front door opened.
"What in the name of the newly grounded is going on here?" Mr. Davenport yelled seeing the leftover mess from the party.
"We threw an awesome surprise birthday party for Leo." Bree explained.
"Oh! That is so sweet, you guys." Tasha gushed.
"Right. Hiding behind the Leo shield. Well played." Mr. Davenport was still upset.
"Speaking of which, where is Leo?" Tasha asked. Oh no.
"Yeah, and where's Maddie usually when you three are involved she's somewhere holding things together." Mr. Davenport added. That's worse.
"They're right here." Eddy sang showing us footage of Leo and Maddie glaring at us from the Lab. Weirdly wearing a clown outfit.
"Where We've been for the past three hours!!!" Maddie yelled. I'm screwed.
"Yep, just waiting for the signal." Eddy added still loving the situation.
"Eddy, let Leo and Maddie upstairs now." I said giving Eddy the signal.
"All rightie, there's my signal." Eddy smiled.
"Let me get this straight. So you guys had a surprise party for Leo... Without Leo." Mr. Davenport said, unable to hold back his laughter. "That's-- That's actually kind of fu-- It's not funny. It's not funny." He receded with a glare from Tasha.
"Okay, well, uh, Leo's gonna be up here in just a few seconds. Why don't we act like the party's still going on, okay?" I tried.
"Surprise!" We all yelled surprise, Adam and I blowing noise makers and Bree throwing a loose streamer in the air.
"I thought my first birthday with you guys was gonna be awesome. And you know what? It probably was. But I wouldn't know, because I wasn't invited!" Leo said storming out. Maddie just gave me a look.
"I'm gonna walk Maddie home, It's late." I explained, she nodded and I followed her out the door.
. . .
I walked along the sidewalk with Maddie, in silence because I am afraid of what she might have to say to me. I looked down at her and she didn't look too angry so I took my chance.
"You know there's only three more days." I said. I've been trying to get her to give up on the no kissing punishment, I'm not saying I don't deserve it but I also miss her lips. Plus it's not like she doesn't miss it. I caught her staring at my lips twice yesterday.
"Yeah, three more. Three more days until you get to kiss me again and no less than that." She confirmed laughing.
"Hey." I whined, "That's not fair, I'm allowed to miss getting to kiss my gorgeous girlfriend. Especially when she taunts me by biting her lower lip when she's in deep thought or when she's trying not to laugh at my hilariousness." I teased pointing out the fact that she was currently biting her lip. "You mad at me for tonight?" I asked more seriously.
"Not really. Yeah what you did was dumb but there was a reason. You guys never got a birthday party and you were long overdue." She explained before turning around to walk backwards up her driveway. "Plus I think it would be mean since your already in the doghouse." She laughed and my smile fell to give her a glare.
"Good night Madds."
"Night, lover boy." She said, sending me a wink.
April 5th Davenport Lab (Chase's POV)-
"Honey, I know your birthday was a bit of a bust, but I think I know what will make it better. Donald, give him your gift." Tasha said.
"Yeah, Big D. Maybe your awesome-tastical gift can cheer me up after being totally forgotten!" Leo cheered while getting in a blow at us.
"What, that gift? You don't want that gift. You know what? Just give me the number that'll keep the tears back. What do you say?" Mr. Davenport took out his wallet.
"Mr. Davenport, just give him your gift." I smirked, we saw it while setting up for the party yesterday. It was buried in the coat closet completely broken.
"You know, I would, but I forgot where it was." He tried.
"Oh, no, it's right here. It's in the closet behind a bunch of stuff." Adam said digging it out for Leo.
"Thanks, Adam. Good eye." Mr. Davenport said through his teeth.
Leo opened the box surprised to see it completely broken and Adam, Bree, and I were all laughing.
"Well, great, Leo. You broke it." He said, trying to move away from the blame.
Davenport Lab (Maddie's POV)-
"I am the worst dad ever." Davenport whined and there was no protest. "Well, don't all disagree with me at once. You know, I'm just gonna glue this hexacopter back together."
"Yep, glue that will work for one of the most destructive kids on earth." I said beneath my breath and saw Chase smile being the only one who could hear me.
"Well, yeah, sure. Now he'll forgive you, but what about us?" He asked.
"Guys, I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm kind of in the "Me" business." Davenport said, not trying to help his kids.
"I feel terrible. We should have just done what Leo wanted." Bree said.
"Wait a second. What Leo really wanted was to go on a mission with us in the simulator. So that's exactly what he's gonna do." Chase said, it wasn't a bad idea but they'd definitely get caught.
"Yeah, but Mr. Davenport said we couldn't." Adam provided.
"We'll just swipe the cyber key away from Mr. Davenport so we can start the simulator ourselves." My stomach suddenly somersaulted. Seeing Chase breaking the rules on purpose was a rare thing, but whenever it happened it always made me short of breath.
"That is sneaky, conniving, and totally rebellious. We are finally normal teenagers!" Bree cheered.
"Have fun. I'm gonna stay out of this." I added. The three of them snuck over to Davenport's desk where he was working on Leo's drone.
"Okay, Mr. Davenport keeps the cyber key on the left side of his desk." Chase said quietly.
"If we're gonna do this, we have to be still." Bree added.
"I got this." Adam said confidently patting his younger sibling's shoulders. "Hello, Mr. Davenport. Look at you, playing with your big boy toys."
"Hey, Adam." Davenport said warily.
"What is that?!" I shouted pointing at the wall.
"Uh, that would be a wall, Adam." Davenport said as he turned to the wall and Adam grabbed the key.
"You are correct, sir." He said before running away with Bree and Chase on his tail.
Davenport Lab (Chase's POV)-
"Let me guess. You're gonna lock me down here and go on vacation." Leo asked.
"Leo, it's time for your birthday mission." I answered, giving him the simulation goggles and pulling him on to the pad.
"But Mr. Davenport and Maddie said I'm not supposed to play with these. But they're not here. All right! Let's go!" He said excited, we started the simulation and joined after him.
"No offense, guys, but this is a seriously expensive let-down. Hey! Now we're talkin'! Oh! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Guys! A little help here!" He was getting attacked by the ninja life model decoys.
"Chase, show him how it's done." Adam commanded.
"Leo, you're up! Use your force field!" I fought off one more LMD before turning to Leo.
"What?! I don't have a-" He put his hands up creating a force field. "Ohh! I have a force field! I'm bionic! Yes! Yes! Finally!" He cheered.
"Time to get your blur on. Go!" Bree pushed him and they both super sped in opposite directions. Leo stopped in front of Adam.
"Wait. If I can do this..." Leo wondered.
"Go ahead, birthday boy, throw me across the room!" Adam offered. Leo grabbed him by the back of his shirt and threw Adam.
"How do you resist the temptation to do that to me every day?" Leo said bouncing on his feet. Two more ninjas came for Leo "Oh, you want some of this. Welcome to Dia De Leo! Heyahh!" They blocked his hits and beat him down so Bree and I jumped in to help. I took on the shorter of the two. They quickly beat Bree and I as well.
Leo had tried to help Bree but the rebel caught him as well.
"I don't understand! This rebel is programmed with more sophisticated moves than I've ever seen!" The rebel I had fought was the most superior even more so to its partner. They released the three of us, pushing us to the ground.
"Hey, it's not cool to make me lose on Dia De Leo!" Leo whined. The taller rebel took off his mask to reveal Mr. Davenport.
"Yeah? And it's not cool to steal someone's cyber key." He answered.
"Oh, man, you were supposed to be good-looking. I mean, no offense. I'm sure you're eye candy to old people." Bree said.
"Leo, I told you to stay out of the simulator. You're not prepared for it." Mr. Davenport reprimanded as a LMD came to attack him.
"Big D, watch out!" Leo kicked the LMD in the chest knocking it out.
"Or maybe you are. That was great, Leo! Awesome!" He praised.
"So does that mean I get to use the simulator whenever I want?" Leo tried.
"No! That just means I have to crank up the difficulty about 100% to make it challenging for these guys-- Who are in big trouble." Mr. Davenport said.
"Quick question. If your you," he pointed to Mr. Davenport, "then who's that?" He pointed out the guard still holding me back. I stopped fighting against there hold when Mr. Davenport revealed himself and the rebel pulled me flush against their body. Saying I had a hunch would be an understatement.
Maddie finally released me from her hold and took off her mask. We all nodded realization, it made sense.
"You already knew about our plan. Why're you fighting us?" Bree asked.
"Davenport asked me. I was bored." She shrugged.
"You three are still in big trouble." He said, turning the conversation back.
"We're sorry we took your cyber key. We had to make it up to Leo for messing up his birthday." I explained.
"You know, if you would have given them a party of their own, they may not have had to hijack Leo's." Maddie added.
"I got it. Birthdays matter." He conceded.
"Yeah, you should know-- You've had enough of 'em. What are you, like, fifty?" I teased.
"I'm thirty-eight." He fought and we laughed.
"No, seriously." I questioned.
"Ha ha. Okay, who's up for some kick-boxing on Mars?" He added.
"Yes!" Leo cheered. "See, this is what birthdays are about-- Kickin' butt as a family. It's time for a hug." We all hugged each other from inside the simulation.
A/N: There's bionic birthday fail. I am skipping smart and smarter cause it doesn't really fit in. Next is Death spiral smack down.
