Blaine woke up early the next morning so he could make breakfast in bed for Kurt. He still did this most mornings, even though Kurt said he really didn't need to. But some days he got more into it than others, depending on time and available ingredients. Even though he knew he was forgiven for yesterday, Blaine often felt after he'd been in trouble like trying to show his appreciation for Kurt a little more. Kind of make up for things or something. Luckily they had just been grocery shopping two nights before, and, being in good spirits, he decided to make extra breakfast and surprise Rachel too. First, though, he made sure to put together a couple of healthy lunches for him and Kurt to bring to school. No restaurants today. Next, he decided to get creative with an omelet recipe he'd found online that he knew Kurt would love, throwing in some vegan sausage from the freezer he knew Rachel was fond of. He put fruit, granola, and yogurt on the side, humming to himself as he dished it all out.
Rachel strolled past him on her way to her shower and rolled her eyes at the familiar scene. "How much food do you think he's going to eat?" she teased.
"I made some for you too," Blaine defended. "Was in the mood to cook, and we'll have leftover tomorrow!" he chirped brightly.
Rachel shrugged. She thought it was overboard, but wasn't going to turn down a full meal she didn't have to do any cooking for. Plus a leisurely breakfast would give her the chance to catch up on school gossip with Kurt.
It wasn't until an hour later, when Rachel went to drop her plates in the sink, that she realized with chagrin that it was her turn to wash the breakfast dishes. Three cereal bowls would be annoying enough, but this was a lot more than that. Ugh, Blaine. This isso unfair. I have better things to do this morning. She knew better than to complain- Kurt and her had been through arguments over chores a million times before, and those generally just ended with her getting swatted and no bending of the rule. It was bad enough, in her view, to have to do the stupid dishes; having to do them with a sore backside was unlikely to be worth it.
"You are amazing as always, honey," Kurt cooed to Blaine, unaware of Rachel's sudden unhappiness. He gave his fiancé a kiss as he put his plate in the sink.
"Well, you have that big test this morning," Blaine aid, bashful. "I figured you might need some extra fuel."
"It was perfect. I don't know what I do to deserve you, but I appreciate it."
Blaine beamed.
"Oh! Look at the time, we need to get going!" Kurt said, rushing to grab his bag.
"Hey! Bring the flash cards. We can have a power drill on the subway ride in. I have a good feeling, though. You're going to ace this," Blaine encouraged. "Bye Rachel!"
Rachel just waved at them, pretty annoyed that neither even offered to help rinse or anything before they left. She really never volunteered to help when it was their turns, but still. She made a face at the pile of dishes in the sink. If I wash and put away all of this how Kurt wants, it's going to take forever. I'll probably get stuck in the morning rush hour on the way to my dialect session. Ugh.
