Hiya! New chapter!
Still haven't found a house, so I'm still sleeping on a mattress on my sister's floor. :(
Disclaimer: I do not own Sailor Moon.
Seventh Chapter
Three days had passed since Mamoru had officially asked her to be his girlfriend, and in that time, a few random youma had shown up. Usagi and Rei had handled them without any real incident, and even though she didn't see him there, Usagi had felt Mamoru's presence there as Tuxedo Mask. In the other… time line, she supposed… he'd helped her out, since she'd been alone. This time she wasn't, which was probably why he was keeping out of it right now.
These youma weren't driven directly by the Dark Generals, the Shitennou. These youma were ones that were set loose to randomly gather energy, probably just keeping the energy flowing to the Dark Kingdom and Metalia in between the 'grand schemes' of the Generals. Soon enough, those ones should start happening, in fact, Usagi was expecting it within the next day or so.
Usagi, Rei, and Luna had had an in depth conversation about what they should do with their foreknowledge. There'd been a lot of back and forth, but they'd decided to simply wait and see when it came to the Shitennou. With the other senshi, Luna had already tracked down their addresses, and she and Rei were going to go see Ami that afternoon, since Usagi had jujitsu that day. They would all go see Makoto the following day.
There was also the matter of talking to Mamoru about everything. Usagi was stalling, but she knew she had to confront him about the whole Tuxedo Mask/ Prince Endymion thing sooner or later.
At this point in time, she was at her jujitsu class. Usagi was doing stretches, watching the other students as their sensei critiqued and even corrected their stances. She'd already finished for the day, and was doing her stretches to prevent muscle strain and stuff. Rei and Luna should be talking to Ami at this point, in fact… they were hopefully already done.
It was as she was packing up her stuff that she spotted someone come in who was completely unexpected, but their being there provided the perfect opportunity to interact with them. It was Makoto, and Usagi wondered what she was doing here. The tall senshi looked around the room, as if she were searching for something, or someone. When her gaze landed on Usagi, her eyes lit up briefly, before she suddenly looked nervous.
And now Usagi was nervous too. But Makoto was braver than her it seemed (she always was, brave brave Mako-chan) and she made her way over.
"Uh, hi," Makoto greeted. "This might sound weird, I dunno… But we know each other. I mean! I know you, and you know me, and…"
Makoto was getting flustered, Usagi could tell. "It's okay, Mako-chan," she said, garnering an instant reaction of surprise and relief from her. "We do know each other."
Makoto's mouth formed an 'o' of surprise, before she grinned. "I knew it!" she exclaimed. "When I saw you come in here earlier, I was sure it was you! I'd know that hairstyle anywhere! But I didn't know if you'd remember me, Usagi-chan."
Usagi had finished packing everything away, and she pulled up her bag over her shoulder. "So, I was gonna head off to the Arcade…" her voice trailed off. "Did… did you want to come?"
Makoto nodded, her grin seemingly a permanent plaster on her face. "Sure," she agreed, and the two began to walk out of there. "I mean, I haven't had the chance to stop by there yet, I only moved into my place yesterday and…"
They chatted all the way to the Crown Fruits Parlour Arcade, with Makoto catching her up on what had been happening with her.
"So, I remembered everything a few years back," she was saying as they came up to the doors of the Arcade, "but I still lived in Shibuya until recently. I couldn't actually get to you guys, since I was, and still am really, a minor. But I've got my place again, so at least now I can move about a bit more on my own."
"How much do you remember?" Usagi asked curiously.
"Everything up until we created Crystal Tokyo," Makoto told her, and Usagi gaped. "But… nothing on our time in the Silver Millennium, that's locked up tight again. I mean, I know about it only because I remember remembering it once, if that makes any sense?"
Usagi nodded. They went inside the Arcade and ordered milkshakes from Motoki, who was working upstairs today, while his sister worked downstairs. Makoto was a little starry eyed as Usagi introduced them, and ended up a blushing mess by the time the two of them claimed a booth by the window. Usagi grinned at her friend as they sat down.
"Wow, I'd forgotten how cute Motoki-onii-san was. I mean is, I guess," she said.
Usagi giggled. "Yeah, he's totally a dream-boat," she agreed. "Naru-chan had a little crush on him for a bit, I think I told you guys that once."
Makoto laughed as she nodded. "Yeah, the idea of both of you fawning over him was highly entertaining back then," she said. "Did you crush on him this time as well?"
Usagi shook her head, eyes flicking over to an empty stool. "Not this time," she told her friend. "No, not this time."
Understanding was in Makoto's gaze. "Mamoru-san?" she asked, and Usagi nodded, a little blush forming.
"We, uh, we officially became a couple a few days ago," she confided.
"I'm happy for you," Makoto told her with a grin. "Is he still Tuxedo Mask? I mean, only you, and Mars I guess, have made it to the news. Where is Rei-chan right now?"
"Rei-chan and Luna-chan went to see Ami-chan to tell her about being a Senshi," Usagi told her. "We were going to talk to you tomorrow, since we found out you only recently moved here."
"I beat you to the punch, huh?" Makoto mused, and Usagi nodded.
"As for Mamo-chan…" Usagi trailed off, thoughtful. "I haven't talked to him about all this yet, I really don't know what I'd say."
"Just come right out and tell him," Makoto suggested. "Worked for me."
Usagi didn't know if she could be that brave about it all.
"So, how much does Rei-chan remember?" Makoto asked. "I mean, does she remember?"
Usagi nodded. "She really only remembers the past," she told her. "But she did have some weird deja vu about some of my drawings about the future…"
Makoto nodded. "So you're drawing are you?" she asked.
"I've got pencil drawings, charcoal ones, and I've done some paintings as well," Usagi told her. "I… I actually remember everything from the Silver Millennium, as well as everything all the way up to about thirty years past where Chibiusa-chan had left the future to come back to train as a Senshi."
"Wow, that's a lot," Makoto exclaimed, wide eyed.
Usagi was about to speak, but then the bell over the entrance door went off, and she looked up to see Rei with Ami coming in. The fire Senshi looked surprised at the sight of Makoto, but then Usagi was waving them over eagerly. The two settled into the booth with them.
"Rei-chan! This is Makoto-chan!" Usagi told her. "Makoto-chan, this is Rei-chan and Ami-chan!"
"How did…?" Rei was surprised. "Never mind. Ami-chan remembers the future, and some of the past."
"I remember the future," Makoto said, "but the past is a blank for me."
"When did you remember, Ami-chan?" Usagi asked.
"About three years ago," Ami told her. "Rei-san and I talked, and it's looking like we remembered at the exact same time as you. What about you, Makoto-san?"
"Hey, call me Mako-chan, like Usagi-chan does," Makoto insisted. "And I remembered three years ago too, in March that year. I forget the day, though."
"There's definitely a correlation there," Ami mused. "When I remembered, I tried to track the four of you down, but I couldn't do anything at the time about it, so I decided that it would be better to wait until we were brought together."
"That's what I thought, too," Usagi said. "But now we are all here, there's just Minako-chan to find."
They were all silent a moment as they wondered where she was at that exact moment. "She still became Sailor V," Makoto said. "I wonder how much she remembers…"
The four of them chatted for a while, exchanging stories on their life since remembering, and what they remembered also. Then Ami had to leave to be home in time before her mother finished her hospital shift, and Rei had to dash back to the shrine to complete her chores. Makoto didn't have anywhere to be, but she walked with Usagi to her house, then went in with her when Usagi insisted she come up to see Luna instead of waiting outside.
Only her father wasn't home, with Shingo holed up in his room, the sounds of his video games floating through his door. Usagi's mother was in the kitchen cooking, giving only a passing wave to her and Makoto as they headed upstairs. Luna was curled up at the foot of Usagi's bed, but not asleep.
"Luna-chan!" Usagi exclaimed, bouncing on the bed next to the Mauian feline, causing her to screech in shock. "Sorry," Usagi giggled, "but I'm just so excited! Mako-chan's here!"
Luna looked over at Makoto in surprise. "O-oh!" she exclaimed. "Sailor Jupiter, then?"
Usagi nodded. "She found me at jujitsu practice," she told her advisor. "Mako-chan remembers everything from the future! Well, not as far forward as me, but that's not the point. Can you give her her transformation pen now? You gave Ami-chan's to her, didn't you?"
"Of course, of course," Luna readily agreed, and did her little flip, producing not only Jupiter's transformation pen, but also her communicator.
"Now we've only got Minako-chan to find!" Usagi declared, then turned to Makoto. "You're staying for dinner, right?"
OoOoO
Makoto did indeed stay for dinner, with her catching a cab back to her own place, insisting that she would be fine getting home on her own. Usagi spent the remainder of her time before bed competing with Shingo for the tv remote, before they were both sent off to go to bed. Luna kept her up a bit longer with strategies, before the feline curled back up into a ball and fell asleep.
Usagi herself couldn't sleep, she kept tossing and turning. At about one in the morning, she finally stopped even trying, and decided that she needed to run. So she slipped out of her window, landing gracefully on the tree outside, and transformed into Sailor Moon, taking to the rooftops. In that other time line, she would often do this once Mamoru had been taken by the Dark Kingdom. She would just sit at a high vantage, desperately hoping that she could feel him somewhere in the city.
It never worked, of course, but it became a recurring habit over the years.
After running through the city, then leaping across the rooftops, Usagi made her way to the top of an office building and sat on the edge, just staring out into the city. She really needed to tell Mamoru about everything, find out if he remembered things. Maybe… Maybe he did? Because before, he certainly hadn't been this eager to be with her, so maybe…? She sighed.
Tomorrow, Ami would be joining her class at school. Which meant, that the Crystal Seminar cram school was already hosting youma. Ami had confided that she wasn't actually going to that cram school this time around, but they'd all decided that they would still be able to easily sneak in there to take the youma out. Or at least, Ami and Usagi would. The corridors of the cram school were tight, from what they could remember, so following it basically the same as they had last time should still work. If not, then Rei and Makoto would be standing by just in case.
Usagi sighed, then muffled a shriek when the sound of billowing cloth settled near her. Looking up, she was surprised to find Tuxedo Mask there, staring down at her with Mamoru's blue, blue eyes. Quickly she scrambled to her feet, and the two of them stared at one another, before he spoke up.
"Sailor Moon," he greeted her.
"Ma-er… Tuxedo Mask," she greeted back. "Wh-what brings you out here tonight?"
"I felt you transform," Mamoru told her, and Usagi mentally slapped herself. Of course, their connection!
"So," he went on, "what would Tokyo City's newest superhero be doing sitting atop one of the tallest buildings in Minato Ward?"
Usagi shrugged lightly. "I couldn't sleep," she told him.
"So you thought it would be a good idea to come out here?" he asked.
Another shrug. "There's a lot going on, you know," she told him. "With my life, that is. This whole superhero thing… I thought it was just a dream, at first. But it's not. It's real. And now… Now there are others who've joined me, and we've been figuring out, or at least trying to figure out, how we're gonna handle it all."
"Others…" Mamoru mused. "You mean Sailor Mars?"
"And Mercury and Jupiter now, too," Usagi told him, and looked up to see his reaction.
He looked thoughtful, and a little determined, though she wasn't sure what that was about. "I remember," he murmured, so softly she almost missed it, and her eyes widened.
"Wh-what do you remember?" Usagi asked.
He looked like he hadn't expected her to hear that, and he cleared his throat before saying, "I remember the Senshi. I remember Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter," he took a step closer to her, and Usagi suddenly got a chill along her spine. "What I don't remember, is Sailor Moon. You weren't there, so why now? Why here? Who are you, Sailor Moon?"
Usagi gulped and took a step back, teetering on the edge of the building. Well, time to tell all, she supposed.
