The door closed with a quiet sound. Sokka was hoping his sister would think he was asleep and would leave him alone. But of course if he knew anything it was that when Katara set her mind to something she always followed through. Accepting his fate Sokka turned so that he was laying on his side and cracked his eyes open just a bit. "That's weird.." He thought to himself. "I never would have expected Katara to wear anything with the color red. Yet here she is in a red robe. Maybe they are her pj's?" As he looked at her he began to notice something was off. Besides the clothes, her hair seemed different. Instead of the hair loopies she usually had her hair tied in, it was semi tied up with most of it hanging loosely down her back. And now that he really looked it seemed as if she was wearing a golden hair pin in the bun atop her head. Wait...red clothes, hair held up with a golden pin..something wasn't right. And then it finally dawned on him. It didn't look like Katara because it WASN'T Katara, and the only person who Sokka knew of that fit the description of the person standing before him. Azula…
"Piece of bread...cup of water...veggies and meat..(Both perfectly balanced in proportion to each other) and a bowl of soup. That should be enough." Said Azula whispering to herself. She had hoped to make only one trip this time, which is why she made sure to grab everything she needed while she was in the kitchen. She was sure that at least one of the servants had seen her going in and out of this boys room. And she did not need any unsavory rumors being spread about her. With that in mind Azula moved towards the door and clicked the lock on it shut. "This way if anyone gets nosey they won't see me in here and jump to any conclusions. Now that that's done it's time to take off this robe, it's way too stuffy." With that she began to undo the strap around her waist.
"Was that a click i just heard!? DID SHE JUST LOCK THE DOOR?" Sokka yelled to himself mentally. He did not know what the fire nation princess wanted with him but he knew it wouldn't be good. As he cracked his eyelids again he noticed her now facing him while messing with her robes straps. Was it too tight? Just then whether due to the lack of food in his stomach or exhaustion, the irrational part of Sokka's brain began to jump to conclusions. Sokka jumped up as fast as he could.
"NOOOO WE CAN'T DO THAT!" He screamed.
Azula looked at him dumbfounded. Huh? What was this imbecile spouting on about? Do what? As she looked around her gaze landed on her hands which were still trying to untangle her robe straps. It was then that princess Azula put two and two together.
"EWWWWW I WOULD NEVER! ESPECIALLY NOT WITH AN IMBECILE LIKE YOU!? UGH HOW CAN YOU EVEN BEAR THE THOUGHT OF THAT!?" She yelled back in disgust.
"HEYY I AM NOT THAT UGLY YOU EVIL RAT VIPER!" Sokka screamed in retaliation. Yea he wasn't the best looking guy but that didn't stop him from being able to catch the attention of beautiful girls like Yue and Suki who were LEAGUES above him. As soon as those names came up Sokka's heart sunk. He tried his best to suppress his emotions. But on some occasions he would slip up and think about them, which would then cause him to become depressed all over again. This was one of those times. Sokka slumped onto the bed. His eyes had gone blank. He stared at the wall as if there was some sort of hidden thing only he could see.
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING A RAT VIPER YOU-" Azula stopped mid sentence. Something was wrong she could see it. "Wait what am I worried about? He isn't my problem. I was just bringing him food as a show of thanks for what he did at the prison. Even then Zuzu is the one making me do it, I don't need to do anything but this and that's it." As she brought herself back to reality she noticed he was now looking at her. His mood seemed to have changed, the life had returned to his eyes and she could no longer sense the feeling she had had a few seconds before.
"What?" She asked.
"What do you mean? You're the one who showed up in my room in the middle of the night unannounced. Not only that but you lock the door and begin to undress. What else am I supposed to do?" Sokka then noticed the plate of food on the table. "Did you bring me this?" He asked.
"No the magical 400-foot tall purple platypus bear with pink horns and silver wings did. It was also the one who undressed, cleaned and washed your clothes for you. You should be grateful." Said Azula sarcastically.
"So it was you. Thanks." Said Sokka as he smiled at her and sat down to eat.
"Whatever it was a one time thing, so don't get used to it." Said Azula as she walked towards the door.
"Why though? You don't have any reason to do any of this for me." Sokka asked.
"Don't think I did this because I wanted to. Zuzu made me do it because apparently you were the one who carried me out of my cell and punished the men who abused me."
"Oh..Well it was greatly appreciated either way. I haven't had a decent meal in a while so thanks!" As those words left his mouth Sokka began to dig into his food using his bare hands instead of the utensils Azula had brought him.
"What an animal." Thought Azula as she unlocked the door.
"Oh before you go. I just wanted to tell you something." Sokka began to stand.
"If you're thinking about trying to apologize for what happened in the prison, don't. I do not need your empty words for comfort. And I do not want the pity of a boy who can not even use utensils." As she said this Azula could feel a surge of chills throughout her body. That was the past now. And that's how she wanted to keep it.
"No. To apologize to someone is to understand the pain they feel or felt. I could never understand the pain you felt or feel even now. What happened in there was nothing short of evil and disgusting. I just wanted to tell you that I hope now you can have a better life. And if there is ever anything you would like to talk about my room is always open." Sokka said smiling a bit, He hoped she would understand that he was trying to be there for her and that he was not gonna force her to talk to him.
"Firstly BOY. I will never need help from the likes of you. I can handle myself just fine. Secondly you are right, you can't understand my pain. So don't even begin to try. Keep your mouth shut and keep away from me and we will get along just fine." Azula said as she squeezed the doorknob, bending it slightly.
Sokka was in shock. What could he say to that? This is why he told them he wasn't a good fit for this job. As he began to drift into his thoughts Azula walked out of the room without a word. "Whatever. I'll take it up with Zuko in the morning." Sokka thought to himself as he began to eat his food again. Come to think of it she hadn't called him any names besides "boy and imbecile" which was odd considering she liked to calm him peasant any time they encountered each other before the war ended.
As Azula reached her room she was out of breath. Wait what? Out of breath? She didn't do anything rigorous so why was she breathing so hard. Her heart felt weird as well. It felt as if someone was pulling on it and moving it up and down her stomach. "Whatever. I'll just have the water tribe girl check me over in the morning." She said to herself as she prepared for bed. What a strange boy he was. Acting as if he cared for her. "Ha as if. Nobody cares for me. My own mother called me a monster and my dad never even acknowledged me for me. He only saw me as a tool to gain favor with his father. The ex fire lord. As if some water tribe boy could even begin to understand me much less care for me.".
