Chapter 8
Dimmsdale Elementary School
"You were right Timmy; this Danny Phantom is so cool!"
Timmy and his friends had spent the entire bus ride talking about the ghostly superhero. AJ, after he went home, looked up information about Phantom and his exploits.
"Yeah, no kidding! He rescued the entire town from another dimension?! So freaking cool!" Chester practically yelled out.
"*sigh~*"
"What was that?"
"Nothing! I'll meet up with you guys, I just need to... Check something," Timmy said as he ducked past his two friends. Out of sight, Timmy turns to Cosmo and Wanda, who were disguised as two books. Wanda had her 'this wish is going to end in a disaster' look.
"Wanda, what's the matter?"
"I'm sorry sport, I'm just a bit worried about Danny."
"It's only been a couple days since we last saw him. We talked on the computer with him last night."
"He's probably at school right now," Cosmo piped up. "Nothing bad ever happens at school... except learning!" He shuddered.
"I know, I know... but I can't help it!"
"You're just a worrywart! Danny's a superhero: it's not like he was kidnapped, chased by hunters, electrocuted-"
"Cosmo!" Timmy interrupted when he saw Cosmo's drawling only made Wanda more anxious.
"Those things happen to heroes! He's only a kid! COSMO, WHAT IF HE-"
"Shhh! Settle down... Danny's probably fine. If you're so worried, why not go and check on him? Go spend the day with him."
Wanda sniffed, blinking in surprise at her godson. "Are you sure? What if you need us?"
Timmy smiled. "Then I'll use the 'Callback Button'," Timmy pulled out what seemed to be a pen with a cleverly hidden button. "If I need you guys, then I'll press it."
Wanda wavered. "Well, if you're sure..."
"Hooray! Let's go!" Cosmo flicked out his wand and both fairies disappeared before Wanda could say anything else. Timmy then scampered into his class, where one Denzel Crocker was waiting.
"Why hello Turner. Brought any Fairies with you today?"
Whipping out a handheld device, he points it at Timmy and it scans the boy. *Nieep!* came a noise as the device gave the negative results.
"What?! It says there's no fairies whatsoever!"
Chuckling silently, Timmy trots to his desk, happy that Crocker was once again foiled. He joins in the chatter of the class, which the main topic seemed to be Danny Phantom as the other kids had overheard Chester and AJ talking about the protector of Amity Park.
'Hmm, a sudden interest in a 'hero' in another town. The only way for children to be interested in something like that would be because of FAIRIES! Mark my words Turner, I WILL find your fairies!' Thought Crocker as he plotted and began the class.
'I hope Cosmo and Wanda enjoy the day with Danny.' Thought Timmy.
~~~Line Break~~~
Casper High, Amity Park
"Man, it's just like Mr. Heckler to spring a pop quiz like that!" Complained the techno-geek. Danny, Sam, and Tucker, having just finish first period, were heading to their lockers.
"Tell me about it. I did get to study last night though and I feel somewhat good about how I did." Danny agreed tiredly.
As Sam and Tucker stood by idly chatting, Danny opened his locker to grab his books for the next class. Imagine his surprise when he finds Cosmo and Wanda in his locker as a folder and a calculator.
"Hiya Danny!" Chirped calculator Cosmo. This gained Sam and Tucker's attention.
"Wha- What are you guys doing here?" Whispered Danny as he discreetly checked to see if anyone was eavesdropping. "Shouldn't you be with Timmy?"
"I just wanted to check up on you sweetheart. I was getting a bit worried about you." Wanda, as the folder, spoke softly.
"No need to be worried, I'm fine."
"Well, we're already here and Timmy doesn't need us at the moment. Can we at least stay?"
"...well... alright. You guys can stay." Danny grabbed the needed textbooks and headed to his next class.
"Are you sure that you have what you need for the next class?" Sam and Tucker smirk at the female fairy's 'parental helicoptering'.
"There goes Nagules again. NAG NAG NAAAG!" Cosmo jibed at his wife.
"Shhh! Stay quiet and out of sight. Amity Park may be used to ghosts, but fairies are a whole different matter." Danny whispered to the fairies.
...
Second period passed by without incident, and Danny was headed for third period when the familiar bellow of the endangered species Jockicus Stupidus as he came stalking his way to his favorite prey. ("Totally self-inflicted endangerment")
"Fenton!"
"Here we go..." groaned Danny as he turned to face Dash. "What is it now?"
"I got a D- on my report, and so now I'm taking it out on you."
"Can we please not do this? We both have better things to do and class is going to start-" before he could say anything else, Danny was shoved into a nearby locker. In the process, Danny had dropped his stuff and the disguised fairies. Wanda was fuming; she never liked it when Timmy was bullied at school (or any of her godchildren for that matter), and now here's her baby boy suffering the same treatment. Well not if she has anything to say about it! Cosmo looked equally miffed. Normally, they couldn't do much concerning their godkids because of Da Rules, but Danny was their actual child. No such restraints here!
Dash was leaning on the locker Danny was in, not noticing the flash from Wanda's wand. "Hehe. Hey Fentoenail, how's the view?" Magically, his shoelaces tie themselves together.
"Actually, much better now that I can't see your ugly mug." Came the retort.
Dash's face twisted with irritation. "Why you-"
A dictionary suddenly appears overhead, dropping onto the blond jock's head. Momentarily stunned, he stumbles back, only to trip on his tied up shoelaces. Falling backwards, he crashes into the nearby water fountain, causing it to gush a jet of water, drenching other students and-
"1000 Leagues Under the Sea! Mr. Baxter, what is the meaning of this?" Exclaimed a very wet and irritated Mr. Lancer.
"I- Uh-"
"You can explain this in my office," spoke a just as wet and annoyed Principal Ishiyama as she and Lancer escorted the jock away. As they turned the corner, the locker glowed for a moment before it swung open. Out stepped a surprised, and somewhat pleased, Danny. He was joined by Sam and Tucker, who had also witnessed the event.
"Now that was beautiful," Sam said as Danny stooped to collected his things and the smug-looking fairies. "Hey! next off, you should do something to Paulina."
"I think getting Dash into trouble is good enough for now," Danny said, quirking an eyebrow at the fairies.
"C'mon, we do this sort of thing for Timmy all the time! We can have more fun at lunch!" Cosmo said, a mischievous smile on his face.
"Ohh, what sort of fun?" Asked Tucker as all three teens looked at the fairies with interest.
Later, at lunch
The cafeteria had its usual hustle and bustle. Students in line for school-made lunches or those who had pre-pack lunches were already at their tables. Students chatting about plans for the weekend, recent classes, the local gossip, and whatever else teenagers tend to talk about. There was also discussions about the resident ghostly hero, mainly led by Paulina. At their own table sat Danny and his friends, enjoying the pizza and sodas that the fairies had whipped up with their magic. Jazz came up to their table and noticed the lunch.
"How did you guys get pizza?"
"Let's just say someone's got a magic touch," Danny said, glancing at Cosmo and Wanda, who were now salt and pepper shakers. "Do you want some?"
Nodding yes to the offer and her understanding the hidden message, Jazz grabbed a slice and sat with the trio. "So what's Cosmo and Wanda doing here?"
"We wanted to check in on Danny, to see how he's doing." Wanda said.
"Yo Fentwirp!" Dash grabbed Danny by the shirt collar and hoisted him up. "It's all your fault that I got in trouble!"
"How is it my fault? I didn't do anything!"
"He's right Dash, Danny was in the locker the whole time." Tucker said. "He couldn't have possibly done anything."
"Dash, put my brother down." Commanded Jazz with a stern look.
Dash dropped Danny. "You're lucky that I like your sister. Don't think I'll forget this though." He then ambled to the A-listers table. Danny picked himself up and dusted himself off. "Jerk."
"Don't let him get to you Danny. He's just a small minded jerk just like the rest of those rich pansies." Muttered Sam as she glared holes into the backs of the popular kids.
Tucker sent a smirk towards the fairies. "You mentioned something about 'fun' during lunch..." Cosmo and Wanda exchange mischievous looks.
"We were thinking of giving them their just desserts. What do you think Wanda?"
"Oh pudding, that's a wonderful idea! I was just thinking the same thing."
The teens quirk their eyebrows at the fairy couple as they flicked their wands out. The air above the A-lister table shimmered momentarily, then gallons of vanilla pudding materialized and landed on the popular kids with a "splat!" Shrieks of shock erupted from the rich teens as the rest of the cafeteria stared incredulously at the popular kids' table.
"I think some whip cream is needed. What do you think sweetie?" Wanda asked the shocked halfa.
Danny quirked a grin. "Yeah. Whip cream, and lots of it."
"Oh, and sprinkles!" Added Tucker excitedly, holding out his PDA to record what happened next.
*SPLAT**WHOOOSH* whip cream and sprinkles now adorn the A-listers, causing more shrieks of how "our outfits are ruined!" and "it's all in my hair!"
Team Phantom was chuckling at this scene, along with the fairies.
"Now there needs to be a cherry."
*THUD* a giant cherry dropped itself onto Dash. The scene was so comical that the rest of the student body started to laugh loud and hard.
"You always had a way with dessert..." Cosmo said lovingly at his wife, both now chuckling.
As this was going on, Valerie came up to their table. "What's going on?" She asked, trying to discreetly look around.
"Not quite sure."
"All I know is that this was the funniest thing I have seen!" Tucker said, thumbs a blur on his device. "I'm so posting these... Future posterity must know of this!"
Valerie chuckled a bit. "Yeah, it was pretty funny... Hey, where did you guys get the pizza?"
...
Danny, now in his Phantom form, is floating down the halls of the school. His ghost sense went off in Home EC, followed by the screams of terror. Soon the school was cleared and Danny is now searching for the ghost. Cosmo and Wanda were now free to be out in the open and were floating nearby.
"Status report guys."
"The lab is all clear." Called out Tucker, coming out of a room.
"So is the library." Reported Sam.
"Check the bathrooms, I'm heading out and checking the perimeter." Phasing through the roof, Danny found himself outside, cautiously checking his surroundings because 1) you never know who or what is going to attack and 2) Valerie could be very likely close by. She may have been giving him some slack, Phantom wasn't going to take any chances.
A snarl interrupts his train of thought. He whips around just in time to see a blur of black to tackle him to the ground. Shadow: the bad luck causing ghost. And it's looking more enraged than usual.
"Hey! Claws off Inky!" Danny blasted the shadow off with an ectoblast. Growling some more, Shadow lunges again at Danny. Danny dodges the shadow's attack. However, instead of making another attack against the halfa, Shadow continued of its flight, erratically destroying whatever was nearby. "Hey, quit that!" Danny called out as he gave chase to the pitch ghost. Team Phantom, who had came out when sounds of destruction reached their ears, came outside to see the chase. Cosmo and Wanda poof up next to them.
"Dang, Johnny's shadow is acting crazier than usual!" Tucker eyed the ghost warily. He was still anxious about Shadow ever since he had been the target of a lot of bad luck caused by the ghost.
"Well standing around isn't going to help Danny-"
"WATCH OUT!" A tree came crashing down nearby. Danny came crashing down soon after, tumbling with the shadow ghost. Wrenching an arm free, he fired a blast into the face on his assailant, sending Shadow flying back. The rabid ghost snarled as it continued its course of mayhem. As he was about to go after the shadow, a wisp escaped from Danny's mouth. The sounds of a vehicle's engine reached his ears. Already knowing who it was, he turns to face Johnny 13 and Kitty coming towards the group. Ready for a fight, he is surprised to see Kitty hop of and for Johnny to go after Shadow, completely ignoring the halfa.
"Shadow, GET BACK HERE NOW!" Commanded the biker ghost. Shadow, ignoring the command, continued to cause mayhem.
Danny floated down towards Kitty, who was tersely watching her boyfriend. "Kitty, what's going on?"
"Hi Danny. To be honest, we don't exactly know ourselves," Kitty explained to the half-ghost teen. "Johnny's shadow all of a sudden gone ballistic and flew off. I'm sorry, it has never acted in this way before."
"It does seem angrier than usual..." noted Danny. "Hey Johnny, would you like some help over there?" He called out to the biker ghost
"I got this Phantom. Shadow, STOP RIGHT NOW!"
"Let Johnny take care of Shadow; he knows it best." Kitty said, placing a hand on Danny's shoulder. He nodded in response. "Thank you. So how have you been? I heard you just had a birthday. Happy birthday by the way! How was your special day?"
Danny smiled. "Thanks. It was quite nice actually. Very memorable..."
Kitty smirked. "You don't say. How was it memorable?"
Danny paused at her question. After the time that Kitty had tried to make Johnny jealous by dating Danny, Danny and Kitty had been on friendly terms. Whenever she had needed space to vent, she frequently went to talk to him and he would lend an listening ear. Danny had nothing against the ghost-biker girl; she's actually quite nice and he had no problems talking and hanging out with her. He was, however, reluctant to share about his newly discovered heritage. 'Oh yeah! I just found out that I was adopted, and after rescuing a bunch of fairies from their evil counterparts I find out my birth parents are fairies. Yep, fairies ; complete with magic sparkles, wands, wings, and "floaty crown-y things" as Cosmo so graciously puts it. Oh look! There's my birth parents now, do you want to meet them?'. Now THAT was information he didn't want floating around in the Ghost Zone. Before Danny could come up with an answer, his friends joined the two teenaged ghosts.
"Sup Kitty!" Tucker said in a flirtatious manner.
"Hi Tucker, nice to see you," Kitty said in a polite manner, mentally rolling her eyes.
Sam gave Kitty a look. "Kitty." She said tersely
"Sam." Kitty ignored her glaring, not really caring about the goth. Cosmo and Wanda poof into view, gaining her attention. She gasped, eyes widening.
"No way, FAIRIES? OMG I've always wanted to see a fairy for the longest time!" Gushed Kitty in excitement, floating up to the fairy couple. This earned amused looks from the party; even Sam looked a bit amused.
"Hello, I'm Wanda and this is my husband Cosmo." Wanda introduced themselves.
Kitty grinned, "You can call me Kitty! What brings you to Amity Park?"
Tucker and Sam start snickering, knowing quite well what their friend was thinking about. Danny, looking somewhat embarrassed and annoyed, gave them a warning glare that obviously meant 'Say anything and you die'. Unfortunately for the halfa, Cosmo didn't get the memo.
"We're Danny's birth parents!"
Wide eyed, Kitty whipped around to gape at the ghost boy, who was now red with mortification as his two best friends laughed their heads off at their friend's expense. "They are?!"
Danny dragged a hand over his face. "*sigh*... yes they are. It was quite a memorable birthday as I said before." Danny said with a meek smile.
Kitty giggled. "Don't worry Danny, I won't judge or blab. If anything, I find it adorable!" Her expression changed to confusion. "Wait, how are you two Danny's parents? I mean, the size difference..."
Wanda nodded, getting what was being asked. "There are actually different varieties when it comes to fairyfolk. Our type is actually human sized normally. Since the majority of us work as fairy godparents for children, we shrink down-"
"Travel size for kids' convenience!" Threw in Cosmo.
"Yes, pretty much that as one of the reasons. Since we all work with kids so much, we got used to being this size." The teens nodded their heads in understanding. Johnny comes to a stop near the group with Shadow in tow, the latter still looking put off.
"I don't get it; Shadow has been acting strange since last weekend."
"Yeah, well we had better- wait, are those fairies?" Johnny asked, turning towards Cosmo and Wanda.
Danny quickly replied before Cosmo could say anything. "Yeah, they're fairy godparents to a small boy named Timmy. I had to help him rescue them and a whole bunch of other fairies from anti-fairies: their evil counterparts who look like little, blue gremlins who cause bad luck-"
"SNAAAAARRL!" Came an angry tort from Shadow, causing everyone to jump back.
"Woah, sounds like your shadow hates those little dudes." Tucker said, eyeing the ghost nervously.
"Sheesh, you can say that again. Shadow, chill out!" This earned some grumbling from the shadow ghost. "Guess we should head back to the zone." The statement earned looks of surprise and questioning.
"You're really heading back?" Asked Sam skeptically.
"As much as I want to stay back and give Casper here some trouble," Danny gave a miffed look to Johnny, who smirked back, as he continued speaking. "I think Shadow here needs some time to chill. You okay with that Kitty?"
"Of course Johnny!" Kitty then spoke soft enough for only Danny to hear. "We will be talking about Cosmo and Wanda later." She grinned mischievously at Phantom.
Danny rolled his eyes in amusement. "Of course. See you later."
"Til next time Phantom," Johnny saluted. Kitty then climbed onto the motorcycle. "Bye everyone!" Kitty called out as the ghost couple speed of in the direction of FentonWorks.
The teens snuck their way to where the school staff and students gathered. They passed Valerie, who was grumbling about her suit malfunctioning. Danny and his friends found Jazz, who shared what they had missed. Cosmo and Wanda, once again in human guises, strode up to their son and his friends, who were listening to what was being announced. Since it was so late in the day, students were dismissed to gather their things and head home.
"Alright, early school day! This is the perfect time to swing by the tech store for the new PDA software."
"I'll be able to go to the protest without having to sneak out of class!"
As the students dispersed, Star noticed Danny and Jazz head home with Cosmo and Wanda.
"Hmm, never seen those two before." Star mused to herself, being overheard by Valerie, "I wonder who they are..."
"Who are you talking about?" Val asked her friend.
"The couple that left with Fenton and his sister," Star answered, pointing in the direction the siblings and fairies had gone.
"Oh! Those are Danny's birth parents."
Star blinked, then gasped in surprise, "Wait, he's adopted? The Fentons aren't his real family?" Getting a confirmative nod in response.
"Yeah, I heard about it when I visited Danny on his birthday," Valerie explained, "He had only just found out himself that day. And that's not even the tip of the iceberg."
"There's more?" Star asked, her eyebrows rising in surprise and curiosity. Ashley, Kwan, and Mikey, who were nearby, overheard the conversation.
"What are you guys talking about?" Inquired Kwan.
"Turns out Fent- I mean Danny was adopted and just met his birth parents this week."
"His parents weren't able to keep him?" Asked Mikey.
Valerie shook her head, "They weren't separated by usual reasons you would normally think of. What I was told..."
~~~ Huzzah, The Line Break Returns ~~~
Dimmsdale Elementary School
Timmy scampered through the hallway past bustling students, feeling mighty glad that school was almost over. The day had gone by without incident. There was an announcement that the school will be doing a buddy project with a high school from another town. When the name 'Casper High, Amity Park' was brought up, Timmy couldn't be more excited. Here's another chance to hang with Danny! This brightened the boy's mood, and it remained bright throughout the day. Not even Crocker, who appeared to be scheming more lately, could dampen his good cheer.
He was just out the front doors of the school when he saw Francis, the school bully, giving some kids a hard time. Unfortunately, Timmy caught the gaze of the bully, and Francis was now making his way towards him. Getting nervous, Timmy rummaged through his backpack looking for the 'Callback Button'. This was not needed. Francis suddenly fell foward, as if an invisible person had tripped him up. Then he was lifted up by his backpack, floated over to a nearby dumpster, and was dropped in. The kids who were nearby gawked at the spectacle, before laughing at the bully's misfortune. Timmy was giggling as well, then gasped in delight when he heard the familiar voice whisper, "The most appropriate place for any bully, right?"
"Danny! Did you hear the news? Our schools are teaming up for a buddy project!" Timmy chatted as Danny came out of his hiding spot. Cosmo and Wanda appeared in Timmy's backpack as two books.
"Jazz filled me in. I was dealing with a ghost attack when they announced it in class today." Danny said, lowering his voice at the second part of his explanation. "So are we going to goof off together?"
Danny and Timmy walked in the direction of the Turner's home to drop off Timmy's school things, unaware of one Mr. Crocker watching them. He had witnessed Francis being dumped into the dumpster by an invisible force, and he is now seeing Turner talking with the teenaged boy.
"There is that teenager again. Hanging out with Turner, mysteriously appears, and the type of clothes he wears- he must be a FAIRY in disguise! HA! You thought that you could pull the wool over me Turner?! Well I'm on to you and your FAIRY GODPARENTS!"
The teacher slunk after the two boys, looking for his evidence.
...~~~oOo~~~...
Next time: the misadventures of Crocker and meeting the root of all evil, Vicky!
*Thunderclap in the sky somewhere*
*shudders*"The horror... let's hope the boys don't feel the mode later."
Until next time!
