How To Train Your Dragon: Freya's Watchful Eye: Chapter 7: The Nightmare

Hiccup felt sharp, burning pain cut across his chest from a Battle-axe before seeing his beloved Astrid jump in and get hurt herself. He knew something was wrong; he could hear Astrid screaming in terror as she was being attacked by someone he just didn't know who. Hiccup knew that it wasn't a dragon, he could hear a man grunting as he swung the Battle-axe. Suddenly Astrid stopped screaming as Stormfly Astrid's pet and best friend went to defend them. Hiccup soon heard Astrid's screams as tears fell like a river down her face, he saw Stormfly lay motionless on the ground and he was powerless to even move or stop the man who was coming towards him. He couldn't see, everything was black, but he could hear the man charging at him, ready to swing once again. Hiccup's eyes shot open as soon as he felt his arm get hit by the weapon, though he wasn't completely aware of what was going on. He was shaking violently and he crawled out of bed, cold sweat running down his body. He was only about a few feet from the bed when he violently threw up.

HICCUP!

Astrid yelled as she had woken up when Hiccup jolted out of bed. Hiccup collapsed on the floor and continued to shake. Every sound he heard was echoey, his vision was blurry.

Hiccup! Hiccup!, Hiccup love!

Astrid called out and Hiccup knew Astrid was calling him, he just couldn't say anything. He was so deep in shock that it took three minutes for him to say anything still in shock.

A-A-A-Astrid, I can't quite see.

Hiccup said as Astrid grabbed him and embraced him brushing his hair of his face as she was rocking him in her lap.

Don't worry, I'm here I'm right here honey. I am right here…

Astrid said as Hiccup slowly came out of his shock. He was still shaking violently, but he was soon calm enough to speak.

S-S-Sorry for the scare. I just had a vivid nightmare. It felt so real.

Hiccup said and at this point Alexandria had been woken up by Hiccup's fall out of bed and violent shaking. She was now cleaning up the mess from Hiccup deeply worried about what just happened as Astrid tended to him. Astrid was spending the night like she has been since the marriage contract was signed and had been sleeping in Hiccup's bed. Even Toothless, Blackhawk and Star were now sitting next to Hiccup with worried looks on their faces as Astrid spoke.

Just don't scare me like that, I worry about you. It looked like you were having some sort of fit honey.

Astrid said worriedly making Hiccup rolled his eyes now able to see clearly looking up at her before he replied.

W-W-W-Well that's hard to do when you wake up from a nightmare and go into shock.

Hiccup said playfully trying not to have Astrid or Alexandria worry to much even though he was still shaking.

What was the nightmare about anyway love, can you talk about it?

Alexandria asked now kneeling down to him and Hiccup took a deep breath before sighing and said he couldn't see the images clear as day. He still could feel the cold steel of the battle-axe that he had been attacked with. He even saw that he was on the verge of death. He could hear someone attacking Astrid as she let out blood-curdling screams as Stormfly lay motionless on the ground then someone jumping in to save them both at the last minute. Just thinking about made him uneasy and Alexandria and Astrid noticed.

Stop, just stop explaining about the dream if you feel uncomfortable. We just don't want you to be scared of everything.

Astrid said lovingly as Hiccup looked over at her with a look of great concern. For him it didn't feel like a dream for him. It felt to real to be a dream.

I-I don't think it was just a simple nightmare.

Hiccup said as Alexandria now had a concern look on her face.

So you believe that you had a vision?

Alexandria asked as Hiccup shrugged; His grandfather, Old Wrinkly, told him that the Haddock's were capable of seeing into the future. Though he didn't believe it at the time, now he wasn't sure what to expect.

Look, I don't know, but I hope that it wasn't.

Hiccup said and Astrid could see the fear in his eyes. She could tell that he believed in some way it was a vision.

Are you okay to go back to sleep?

Astrid asked and Hiccup shook his head. He was wide awake, and was terrified of seeing that vision again. Luckily Astrid and Alexandria were in a similar position. They couldn't sleep with the idea of Hiccup waking up in shock again. Astrid was twice as terrified that Hiccup would die because of what he saw. She thought to herself as she looked at Hiccup.

Just what did he see, was she dead too? What really scared Hiccup that made him fall out of their bed throwing up and shake violently?

These were some of the questions running through Astrid's head. She soon started to play with her ring and this was a sign to Hiccup that she was nervous or even worried.

You okay Astrid?

Hiccup asked and she looked up at him, but she didn't say anything. She looked back down at her ring and continued to fiddle with it.

Astrid, look at me. What's wrong?

Hiccup asked again and Astrid didn't respond. This was starting to get to Hiccup and he knew that he had to do something to show her that everything was going to be alright. The first thing that came to mind was to kiss her, but with the fact that Hiccup had thrown up made it a bad idea. In fact Hiccup could still taste it in his mouth. He started to get up to get something to drink and nearly fell flat on his face. He had forgotten to put on his prosthetic left foot and it nearly knocked him out. Astrid and Alexandria noticed this and started to giggle as he lay on the floor. Astrid finally spoke as both girls stopped their gigging.

Hiccup what in Thor are you doing on the floor now?

She asked and Hiccup placed a hand on his head before speaking.

Oh, I just thought I would lay here and count the nails on the floor just for fun.

He replied sarcastically and this caused Alexandria to go into another fit of the giggles while Astrid rolled her eyes before she spoke again.

Ha, ha very funny Hiccup, but seriously what were you trying to do?

She asked as Hiccup got up and sat on the bed before he answered.

Actually Astrid love, I was going to kiss you at first, but with this taste in my mouth I don't think kissing you would be a hot idea. So I was trying to get a glass of water.

He told her as both Astrid and Alexandria knew what Hiccup was now trying to do. They had both been sick as dogs at one time or another, and they had thrown up once or twice. They knew what it was like to have that taste linger.

Hiccup, why don't you lay down, and I'll get you something to drink.

Astrid said warmly helping him back into their bed making Hiccup smile. Meanwhile Astrid looked over at Alexandria and asked her to help. In reality she could do it herself, but she wanted to talk to her. Alexandria went over the fire pit to put some more fire wood on the fire so it wouldn't go out before she walked over to the kitchen. Hiccup knew now that they were all going to be staying up for a while. With the cold spring nights on Berk it was sometimes necessary for fires to keep you warm. He looked on as Alexandria heated up some water and Astrid looked for some tea leaves. Alexandria grabbed some mint leaves again and told Astrid to put them in as it would make a tea. As Hiccup watched this, he thought of how lucky he was to have two beautiful women tend him after the horrifying nightmare he had and they made sure he was okay. He thought of how lucky he was to have Astrid as a fiancée and possibly Alexandria if things didn't look up for her. Hiccup shook his head at the thought of fiancée's and he would've never dreamed that Astrid would marry him so easily let alone Alexandria. He was shaken out of his thoughts as Astrid spoke.

Here you go love, drink it slowly so you don't throw-up again. Alex said it would help settle your stomach.

Astrid said as she handed him the tea. Hiccup smiled and took the tea. He could see the mint leave still floating around and it smelled wonderful.

Thanks…

Hiccup said before he took a sip of the mint tea and nearly scalded himself as the hot tea hit his tongue.

Agh…

Hiccup grunted and he spilled some of the tea on his pants as he tried to put it down quickly, but then jumped up as it spilled onto his boxers.

I'm so sorry Hiccup dear, I might have made the tea a bit too hot and I should have told Astrid to warn you honey.

Alexandria said and by now it was becoming apparent to Hiccup that Astrid was rubbing off on her or should he think Alexandria was rubbing off on Astrid, but he wasn't sure which was which at this point. Astrid had apologized several times to Hiccup, and he was now starting to keep track. He didn't mind, it was just unusual that she would apologize so much.

It's okay Astrid, it was an accident and I really didn't get to hurt.

Hiccup said as he looked over at Astrid as she was now trying to dry Hiccup's boxers off from the hot tea. The worry over Hiccup's nightmare hadn't left her thoughts and she was now scared to losing him. Hiccup pulled her close to him and let her rest her head on his shoulders seeing that her thought was towards the nightmare he had.

It's okay, I'm right here.

Hiccup said softly and it helped a little, but not enough. She was smiling, but she started to play with her engagement ring again. Hiccup thought that a kiss would cheer her up, so he took a deep breath and kissed Astrid on the top of the head before he spoke.

I love you Astrid.

Hiccup cooed and Astrid looked up at him with a sort of melancholy look on her face.

I know, I'm just worried about what you saw.

Astrid replied and Hiccup couldn't agree more. Just like Astrid, Hiccup wondered just what his so called 'Nightmare' meant and he thought to himself.

Was it really a vision he saw or was it something more? Was it a warning of something that will happen in the future, who was the person who attacked them and how did Stormfly lay motionless on the snowy ground? Was what he saw in his nightmare a sign from the gods?

Hiccup thought and he knew he wasn't like most Vikings, so he didn't read too much into the 'gods' thing. He shook the thoughts out of his head before he spoke looking at Astrid and Alexandria who still looked worried.

Honey look, as long as we're together everything will be fine. I will tell you both all about it when I get things in order, but for right now let's not worry about it.

Hiccup said and Astrid started to bury her head into the crook of his neck.

We know… but that won't stop us from worrying about what you saw in your nightmare.

Astrid answered and Hiccup could hear her voice starting to break up; she was starting to cry.

We just don't want to lose you, because we love you too much dear.

Alexandria said lovingly as Hiccup started to comfort them both as best as he could.

If something ever happened to you the both of us would be lost without you. You mean so much that no words or actions could even come close to how we both feel.

Astrid continued and it was true; she had started to become so dependent on him. She knew that Hiccup would always be by their side, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Hiccup was the same way. He would be lost if Astrid and Alexandria left him now. In fact the fight at the workshop made him realize how much he wanted to make Astrid happy, and how much he needed her. He loved her dearly and it was different than his old crush. It wasn't like the old days where he couldn't flirt with her. No, this was different; he could flirt with her and care for her, because he knew she loved him. Alexandria was the same as Astrid in the fact that she loves him too.

Hey Hiccup?

Astrid asked as she was still crying still remembering Hiccup's fit not that long ago.

Yeah?

Hiccup answered as she got up and started to wipe the tears from her eyes.

Promise me you'll always protect us forever.

Astrid said as Hiccup smiled and gave a blissful sigh.

I wasn't planning on not protecting you, your my wife-to-be and the wife to the mother of our children. The same can be said for Alexandria, but you know what the marriage contract says. Alex has to try and find a husband first and see if they match, if she does then great. If anything goes wrong then and only then will I marry her. I am sorry if I mix the words up a bit, but you get my point.

Hiccup answered and chuckled as all three of them started to laugh. The fear of the nightmare still lingered, but it was starting to feel normal. Alex then spoke looking at Hiccup and Astrid.

Let's try and get some more sleep.

She said and Astrid nodded before she replied.

That sounds like a good idea, Thor knows we could use the sleep after the nightmare Hiccup had and cleaning up the mess.

She said and they all climbed into bed together. As all three of them went back to sleep even though it was a bit restless. Stoick woke up early in the morning and went down stairs. He saw that Hiccup, Astrid and Alexandria was sleeping in the same bed. He shook his head knowing that he needed to do something for them so they could sleep more comfortably. Stoick walked out the door and slowly closed it behind him as to not wake Hiccup, Astrid and Alexandria. By late morning arrived all three of them felt like the angel of death was coming to get them as they woke up. They were all as tired as can be, but they couldn't go back to asleep. Alexandria got out of bed and went to start making some more mint tea to help them all wake up. She had suggested this, because it helped her wake up from a restless night.

Here you guys go, drink up, this will help wake you up and settle your nerves.

Alexandria said as Hiccup and Astrid took their drinks and waited for them to cool off. Hiccup felt like shit as he drank his tea, he felt like he was the worst person in the world because he let Astrid and Alexandria stay up with him as they took care of the mess he made earlier. The expression on his face just said it all.

Hey Hiccup, Are you okay?

Astrid asked looking at his face as Hiccup shrugged and apologized.

You and Alex could've slept, instead of staying up with me cleaning up my mess.

Hiccup said as Astrid gave a frustrated sigh and glared at Hiccup. She couldn't believe he was apologizing for a decision that her and Alexandria made on their own. When she explained this, Hiccup shook his head and said that he could've taken care of himself.

THAT'S NOT THE POINT!

Astrid yelled as she was becoming more and more frustrated with him as he continued to apologize.

IDIOT! THE REASON WE STAYED UP WITH YOU WAS BECAUSE WE WERE SCARED FOR OUR HUSBAND!

Astrid yelled and the room was quiet for a while before Astrid broke down, like she did at the workshop.

Why do you insist that everything is your fault? The reason we stayed up was because we were really scared that you were going to leave us. That you were going to die and leave us before we get married.

Astrid sobbed as this was the second time that she had broken down because Hiccup didn't understand how much she cared for him, how much it scared her when he was hurt or in danger.

I... Love you Hiccup. I... don't want anything to happen to you. Alex and I both feel this way, so why can't you understand that we both love you…

Astrid said and Hiccup knelt down and kissed Astrid passionately on the lips. He parted slowly to let the kiss linger and show he loved her.

I'm sorry Astrid. I never meant to scare either of you.

Hiccup said and this earned him a punch in the arm.

Idiot…

Astrid said and by this time there was a knock on the door. The three looked over to the front door and Alex got up speaking.

Ah'm comin'.

She said as it just took one glance to Astrid and Hiccup. Alexandria swung open the door to see Gobber holding a message that he had received earlier that morning and it looked like it was of some urgency. Gobber knew Stoick had to see it right away.

Wat is it Gobber?

Hiccup asked and Gobber spoke.

This is for your dad, have ya seen him? he needs to see this it looks kinda important, had ta get it ta ya dad right away.

Gobber said and Hiccup shook his head before he replied.

No, I think he is somewhere in the village.

He answered and this caused Gobber to rub the back of his head before he spoke.

First Alexandria comes to the tribe, now we get word that a mercenary is comin' to the tribe to talk about 'takin' care of Alvin the Treacherous. Well I best be go findin' him and give him this message.

Gobber said as Hiccup replied.

I hope we don't have to gather the Gather the War Council. I have a bad feeling about how they'll react.

Hiccup said as Gobber agreed wholeheartedly before he left to go find Stoick. leaving Astrid, Alexandria and Hiccup generally confused about the whole thing and all three of them knew that The War Council was only called in a time of crisis. In fact the last time The War Council was called was right before the battle with the Green Death.

This must be bad if there is a letter for my dad.

Hiccup said and Astrid nodded.

Yeah, it's been a whole year since The War Council has been summoned.

Astrid said as Alexandria had an idea what was going on. She didn't tell Hiccup or Astrid, because she wasn't sure if she was right.

Well... Let's not stress about it. Why don't you two go to the elder of the tribe and ask about Hiccup's vision while I go take Blackhawk and Star over to the Dragon Academy to see the other dragons.

Alexandria said as Hiccup and Astrid looked back at her. She was right; they had to figure out what was going on with Hiccup. They didn't have time to worry about Alvin or the War Council. All three of them left, Alexandria went to take Star and Blackhawk to see the other dragons while Hiccup and Astrid went to go talk with the village elder. After climbing all the way to top of Gothi's tower the two of them knocked on the door to see the Gothi. When the elder opened the door, she immediately let them in. She had been expecting them and sat them in front of the table.

We've come for your help. I've had a... Vision of me and Astrid being attacked.

Hiccup said and Gothi started to write in Old Norse Runes.

This is no ordinary vision.

Gothi said as Astrid and Hiccup looked at what she wrote.

What do you mean?

Astrid asked and Gothi asked if it felt like it was really happening.

Yes, it felt physically real.

Hiccup said as he nodded and Astrid spoke.

Do you know who would attack us?

Astrid asked and Gothi shook her head before she wrote in Old Norse.

I cannot say for certain. Tell me what you saw Hiccup and then I can give you a better answer.

She wrote making Hiccup look at Astrid before he spoke.

All I saw was a battle-axe and a black figure grunting as they were going after Astrid. I think I was hurt badly because the next thing I saw was Stormfly lay motionless on snow, then someone jumps in and saves us at the last minute. I can't remember anything else, but this nightmare made me throw up and shake violently. Can you tell us what this all means Gothi?

Hiccup asked and this caused Gothi to shake her head before she wrote again.

Sorry Hiccup I cannot say for certain, but this dream you had will affect both of your lives forever. From what you say it will happen soon. But you both will be better off in your life once it has come to pass.

She wrote before placing a hand on Hiccup's shoulder causing Hiccup to reply.

Will it happen no matter what?

Hiccup asked and she nodded as Hiccup and Astrid looked at each other. If this was going to happen they needed to know when. Gothi told them it would happen in six months and there was nothing they could do but wait.

Six months... That's winter! The ground around me was ice cold in my dream.

Hiccup said and Astrid was still wondering what caused this attack.

Can this be prevented?

Astrid asked and Gothi shook her head again. After the visit to Gothi, Astrid and Hiccup decided to walk around the village so they can figure out what Gothi meant and who would attack them.

I wonder what cause the attack.

Astrid asked as Hiccup shrugged.

And you're sure it wasn't a dragon? Some of them are still pretty hostile.

Astrid added as Hiccup shook his head and started to explain.

The dragons I've come across don't make the grunting sounds I heard. From what I could hear it was a 40 to 50 year old Viking swinging a top-heavy weapon.

Hiccup said and this made Astrid stop in her tracks. She was frozen in fear, because she knew what the weapon was. Hiccup didn't notice that she had stopped until he was a few feet away from her. He looked behind him and saw that she had that same expression on her face as she did last night.

Astrid?

Hiccup asked and Astrid now looked serious.

A Battle-axe… like you said Hiccup

Astrid said and Hiccup was confused on why she said that.

So, there are a lot of Battle-Axes around here, what does one Battle-Axe have to do with you freezing in place?

Hiccup asked as Astrid took a deep breath and began to explain.

A Battle-axe, that's the primary weapon that was used and you said it sounded like a grunt from a man more or less.

Astrid said and Hiccup looked at Astrid as if she was crazy.

And just how do you know that it was a man Astrid?

Hiccup asked as Astrid's face turned deadly serious this time.

Because… think Hiccup, the only Viking that would attack us is MY dad. He don't like you very well and he signed our marriage contract while a bit drunk remember. He still thinks of dragons as just beasts that need to be killed.

Astrid answered and Hiccup was more confused than ever. Just yesterday Cadman was praising him as a great Viking warrior and now Astrid was saying that in six months Cadman would try to kill them.

Why would your dad attack us?

Hiccup asked as Astrid shrugged.

My dad is a traditionalist. We've already dishonored both family's names by having our little 'Fantasies'. I'm sure sooner or later we will do something that is unforgivable in his eyes and no marriage contract will stop him, not even if there is a clause to prevent it from being broken. The question is… What would cause my dad to go off the deep end and attack us?

Astrid asked and now it was making sense to Hiccup, but he also didn't want to believe the one thing he knew that would drive Cadman over the edge. The only way Cadman would find it reasonable to kill them was when Astrid would be pregnant with his child. And since the Vision took place six months down the road it meant that Astrid would be three to six months pregnant. He had heard women go through a so called "Morning Sickness" phase during the first couple of months. By what he had heard in his vision he couldn't tell if she was in this phase. He looked at Astrid, who was now walking next to him again. She didn't look like the kind of girl that would be a motherly figure, but looks were deceiving.

Hey Astrid? Can I ask you something?

Hiccup asked and Astrid looked at him with a smile.

Sure, love why not. It don't hurt to ask.

Astrid replied and Hiccup took a deep breath and struggled to find the words.

Um... Uh... What would you do if we... Um...

Hiccup stuttered and Astrid stopped him by finishing his question.

If we had a baby together?

Astrid finished as Hiccup gulped and turned a bright red. Astrid gave a blissful sigh before she kissed him.

If we had a child, I would be the happiest woman in the world because we made him or her through the love we have for each other, and besides I already told you I wanted your children. Alex seems to be feeling the same way as well.

Astrid said and this made Hiccup chuckle a bit.

You don't seem like the motherly type.

Hiccup said and this earned him a playful punch to the arm, the second one of the day.

And what makes you say that?

Astrid asked playfully and Hiccup didn't want to say that she sometimes took after her father, but by the way she was laughing it was obvious that she knew.

I'm messing with you but seriously Astrid, if we have a baby now don't you think this would cause your dad to go off the deep end?

Hiccup asked as he wasn't too sure if she was. He really did want to know why she didn't seem like the motherly type.

Look, I can see where you would get that idea, but I'm not like my dad, when it comes to children I take after my mom. I want children just as much as the next woman, but I think you may be onto something when it comes to my dad. We'll just have to wait and see what happens even though the thought of it sounds scary. But no matter what, all three of us will weather through any storm that comes our way because we love each other and that is the main key.

Astrid said as she gave Hiccup a hug.

Would your dad find you being pregnant before we were married 'unforgivable'?

Hiccup asked and he was expecting Astrid to become very serious, but instead was met with a very cheerful answer.

I'm sure he would see it that way, but whether I become pregnant before or after we're married, I would understand because we made the child out of love.

Astrid said as Hiccup shook his head in disbelief.

But Astrid…

Hiccup said and Astrid rolled her eyes and looked at Hiccup.

Look, I don't give a fuck what my dad thinks of us. All Alex and I care about is you, if you want to get me pregnant then that's on us. They may not like my decision but it's not up to them now is it? This would be our choice either on purpose or by accident, our baby will be loved no matter how he or she comes into this world.

Astrid said and Hiccup could only sigh at this. Of course Astrid didn't care about how her father would react since he was now the village drunk and jackass. It was Astrid's mother lavender he was more worried about. Hiccup was deep in thought and then Astrid spoke making him look at her.

Why do you ask?

Astrid asked and Hiccup then replied.

Okay just to be clear, you're okay with getting pregnant, and let's say in three months or longer that you are. You know this would probably trigger your dad to attack us and I really don't want to see my future wife get hurt.

He said and for the first time since the incident at the healer's Astrid thought of her reputation. She thought of Hiccup's reputation and how the news of her being pregnant would affect it. They both knew that rumors played a big role in a Viking's reputation. Rumors of a Viking winning a brawl against a rival gave him a good reputation, but something like a Viking getting a girl pregnant before their wedding made them worthy of exile, at least in some Viking's minds. Even a rumor about who a Viking loved gave them either a bad or good reputation. In a place like Berk, with a population of less than 400 people, rumors tended to spread quickly. When they finally got back to the house, Astrid decided that she finally could take a nap and quickly fell asleep on Hiccup's bed. Hiccup looked at Astrid with a smile on his face. He tucked her in and went to check on Toothless and Blackhawk seeing that they were back at the house. The two were a little hungry since Hiccup hadn't fed them that morning.

Sorry guys. I had a rough night and I had to go see Gothi about my nightmare.

Hiccup said as he fed them. Both Toothless and Blackhawk looked concern after he said that.

Hey, it's okay. I'm fine now.

Hiccup said and both Toothless and Blackhawk didn't seem to think so. They ate for a bit before Hiccup heard his father come in the door. He walked back in the house to see that, once again, Stoick was quietly walking up the stairs.

Dad, I need to talk to you. I'll meet you upstairs.

Hiccup said quietly as Stoick nodded with a serious look on his face. Obviously he wanted to talk to him too. Hiccup told Toothless and Blackhawk he would be right back, and went to talk to Stoick. When he entered Stoick's room, he was sitting at his desk, which he rarely used.

Dad, I need to talk to you about the War Council. What's this about a mercenary coming here on their way to kill Alvin, and don't ask me how I know since Gobber was the one to tell me, Astrid and Alexandria.

Hiccup said and Stoick turned around and looked Hiccup in the eye. He knew that Hiccup could be a part of the War Council; he just needed approval from the Council itself. He took a deep breath and began to explain.

It seems that Alvin has started to become ah problem for teh Roman Empire. So the Roman Empire has asked a mercenary who lives in the Meathead tribe to kill him. And since Alvin and I have a rivalry, this mercenary wants to get my approval. I know who the Mercenary is, it will be an easy talk and I hope that they see reason.

Stoick said in a serious tone that Hiccup knew that it meant trouble was on the horizon.

Isn't Alvin the Chief of the Outcasts?

Hiccup asked and Stoick nodded. He said that with Alvin dead, The Outcast would be confused and a Roman War Party to deal with the rest. Hiccup didn't like the sound of a Roman War Party being so close to Berk. He had heard stories of Romans killing dragons to use for armor, food, and they even use them for sport. Not that Berk didn't do the same thing for the last 300 years, but that all changed since last year.

I called the War Council because the mercenary also wants to live here.

Stoick added as Hiccup was a little confused by this.

Why would the Council need to know that?

Hiccup asked as Stoick sighed and looked his son straight in the eyes.

Because the mercenary is a Roman soldier.

Stoick said and Hiccup sighed knowing his gut feelings have a tendency to come true… Meanwhile Alexandria was at the Dragon Training Academy to check on Star and Thunder. It was decided that it would be okay to keep Star and Thunder at the Academy, where it was safe. In fact Stormfly, Hookfang, Meatlug, Barf and Bleck, and Tornado lived at the Dragon Academy. Alexandria walked in the Academy and saw that Fishlegs was feeding Meatlug.

Hey!

Alexandria called out and Fishlegs jumped when he heard Alexandria say hi.

Oh... Hey... Um... What was your name again?

Fishlegs asked as Alexandria walked over to Star's and Thunder's new pen and opened up the door.

My name is Alexandria, but you can call me Alex. That's what Hiccup and Astrid are calling me.

Alexandria answered as Fishlegs was surprised when he saw Alexandria checking up on the two young Night Furies.

Are those YOUR dragons?

Fishlegs asked as Star perked up when she saw Meatlug and the two started to play.

Yeah, the one playing with your Gronckle is Star, the one I intend to keep. That one is Thunder. He is probably going to stay here with Toothless and his mother Blackhawk.

Alexandria said and Fishlegs was impressed by Alexandria, her and Hiccup were the only Vikings to train a Night Fury. He noticed that Star was only fifty years old and Thunder was seventy-five. They both turned around hearing a familiar voice sounding arrogant.

HEY WHAT ARE THESE RUNTS DOING IN HERE!?

Snotlout yelled and immediately Thunder went on the attack. He charged at Snotlout at full speed.

HOOKFANG! HELP!

Snotlout screamed and just before Thunder pounced on Snotlout; Blackhawk came running in with Toothless and Hiccup jumped in front of Thunder. Thunder was growling viciously as he bared his teeth. Star, Meatlug, Fishlegs, and Snotlout were terrified of what was going on. Alexandria stayed calm but didn't say anything since Hiccup could take care of things.

ALEXANDRIA! TRY TO CALM THUNDER DOWN! HE WAS PROBABLY STARTLED BY SNOTLOUT!

Hiccup yelled and Alexandria started to approach Thunder when he suddenly turned his fury on her. He turned and growled at her as he slowly walked up to her. This cause Star, a timid dragon at times, to come to Alexandria's aid. This stopped Thunder and the two had a stand-off.

GET OUT OF MY WAY STAR!

Thunder growled in dragonese. It was at this moment that Alexandria learned that Thunder hadn't been startled by Snotlout.

THESE HUMANS MEAN NOTHING BUT HARM TO US!

Thunder added and Star couldn't help but to be kind.

But brother, she's my friend. They're here to help us, they want to protect us can't you see that? We're just as afraid of them as they are of us. We're the last of our kind and we need them as much as they need us, please understand brother.

Star cooed as Alexandria got back on her feet. All she could do was wait.

HELP US PLEASE WE'RE NIGHT FURIES WHY DO WE NEED A SMELLY HUMAN TO PROTECT US? THAT BOY IS A THREAT TO HIS DRAGON! HIS DRAGON MUST BE A FOOL TO TRUST THIS IDIOT OF A BOY!

Thunder roared and the situation was grave; Thunder's old instincts had kicked in and he was protecting himself from Alexandria and the others. There was no hope of gaining Thunder's trust. Anyone who tried to approach was met with a terrifying sight. It wasn't long before Thunder began to charge a fireball and it took everyone by surprise.

ALEXANDRIA! RUN!

Hiccup yelled, but it was too late. Thunder shot his fireball, hitting just in between Alexandria and Star. It caused Alexandria to get minor to moderate burns from the heat of the blast.

IF YOU WANT TO BE WITH THESE HUMANS, THEN BE MY GUEST! I'M GOING TO MAKE SURE WE ARE NEVER HARMED OR IN DANGER AGAIN!

Thunder roared and at this point Alexandria called out to Hiccup.

Let him go Hiccup! He doesn't want to be here! Thunder is just being stupid trying to get himself killed.

Alexandria yelled as Hiccup nodded and told Toothless, Star and Blackhawk to stand aside. When they did, Thunder took this opportunity to dart out of the Dragon Academy. As soon as he left he flew in the direction of Hellhimes Gate and toward the old Dragon's Den. When it was all over Alexandria dropped to the ground. Her skin stung from the burns. Her body weak from the low adrenalin.

Alexandria dear!

Hiccup yelled and he ran toward her and asked her if she was alright. She looked up at him and smiled.

I guess I still have a lot to learn, I was stupid, but I'll be alright.

Alexandria laughed as Hiccup smiled and helped her up.

Con on let's get you to the healer so she can fix you right up.

Hiccup said and Alexandria pushed him away.

I can go on my own. Thanks though.

Alexandria said as Hiccup smiled and said that he would take care of the dragons and sent Alexandria with Fishlegs to the healer's. As soon as she left Hiccup began to feed the dragons.

Snotlout, are you going to help us or not?

Hiccup asked as Snotlout was staring out the doors of the Dragon Academy, frozen in fear. Hiccup was a little surprised by how frighten he was after Thunder tried to attack him. He was always saying how he would kill a dragon, how he would tear off every leg and every arm of every dragon. Now he had faced a furious Night Fury that was on the verge of killing him. After a bit of coaxing, Hiccup got Snotlout to head home. At first he was a little hesitant, but just to calm his nerves, he headed home. But he was still frozen with fear not wanting to move. It wasn't long before Fishlegs came back and Hiccup spoke now feeding Stormfly.

I just can't believe that Thunder attacked. We haven't had a dragon attack us directly for a year.

Hiccup said as Fishlegs nodded.

I know what you mean. A Night Fury attack hasn't happened since... Well... Since Toothless attacked the village.

Fishlegs said and Hiccup rolled his eyes at Fishlegs. Of course this was the first Night Fury attack since Toothless. Hiccup then looked over to Blackhawk and Star. Star was trying to follow Alexandria, but Blackhawk wasn't letting her.

Hey Blackhawk. Why don't you let Star see Alexandria, I think she could use a friend right about now. It'll do them both some good.

Hiccup said and Blackhawk was a little hesitant at first, knowing Cadman was still out there in the village, but she soon let the fifty year old Night Fury go after Alexandria. After a while Fishlegs decided to change the topic from the attack to Astrid and Alexandria.

So you and Astrid are getting married, and possibly Alexandria too?

Fishlegs asked as Hiccup sighed and nodded.

Yeah, I was surprised when she said yes, I am happy though. Alex does have a clause in hers marriage contract though and I for one just want to see her happy.

Hiccup said as Fishlegs was a little confused by this. When he asked, Hiccup told him that he proposed to Astrid on their first date, before the marriage contract and before the duel then Alexandria came in at the last minute which his dad was okay with.

So she was in love with you and now so is Alexandria?

Fishlegs asked and this made Hiccup chuckle.

I didn't think she would be I mean I'm a hiccup. There's nothing special about me. She just loves me for who I am. But I am glad that they both do love me.

Hiccup said and it was at this time that Hiccup and Fishlegs heard Astrid's voice.

That's right, we do love him for who he is and we can't ask for a better husband then Hiccup. Besides I have loved him for a very long time and it took me this long to realize it. Alex it is like love at first sight.

Astrid said as she walked up to the boys and planted a kiss on Hiccup's cheek. This surprised him, since she was asleep an hour ago.

Astrid, what are you doing here, and did you hear the whole conversation?

Hiccup asked as Astrid giggled uncharacteristically and smiled. This caught Fishlegs off-guard and he asked Hiccup if she had been giggling since they got engaged. This earned him a glare from Astrid.

I heard most of it and Stoick told me that you went to take care of the dragons after he accidentally woke me up from my nap. By the look of it, you had a fight to take care of.

Astrid explained as Hiccup sighed and explained that Thunder tried to attack Snotlout. He pointed at Snotlout, who was still standing motionless in front of the gate.

How long has he been like that?

Astrid asked and Hiccup explained that it was probably only a few minutes and it was starting to annoy him. Astrid giggled again and said that the Viking that claimed that he would kill every dragon was now terrified after being attacked by a dragon. Hiccup chuckled at this. First he beat Snotlout in a duel, now he saved his life from a fast and nimble Night Fury. This was not Snotlout's best week.

Hey Snotlout! Are you going to stand there all day?

Hiccup asked and Snotlout blinked a couple of times and finally came back to reality. He turned to Hiccup and was surprised to see Astrid next to him. He cleared his throat and tried to look unafraid.

I could've taken that Night Fury.

Snotlout boasted as all three of them rolled their eyes.

Not from what I saw. You were running like a scared little rabbit.

Hiccup teased and Astrid jumped in after that.

You weren't able to beat a Night Fury. I thought you said you would kill every dragon.

Astrid laughed and this wasn't helping Snotlout's nerves. He had been beat by Hiccup in the duel and now he was nearly killed by a rogue Night Fury.

Look Snotlout, why don't you head home and calm down.

Hiccup suggested again and Snotlout tried to look tough, but was unsuccessful as he left.

What an idiot.

Astrid said and Hiccup playfully punched Astrid on the arm. It was the first time he did that, and it surprised both Astrid and Fishlegs.

Ow! What was that for?

Astrid asked as Hiccup smiled and chuckled, knowing he was going to get the same treatment sooner or later.

Snotlout is my cousin, and he was attacked by a dragon. So try not to be too hard on him.

Hiccup said as Astrid sighed and rubbed her arm. Hiccup's punch was similar to hers. Even though it wasn't her broken left arm, it still stung.

Is that what it feels like when I punch you?

Astrid asked and Hiccup nodded.

Yeah, it's a little painful, but don't stop. I'm actually used to it.

Hiccup said and instead of punching him in the arm, Astrid kissed him passionately on the lips. Fishlegs averted his eyes and Hiccup's eyes went wide. When Astrid broke off the kiss letting it linger for a bit she smiled at him.

That was my apology.

Astrid said and Hiccup took a moment to catch his breath.

Well… You… Don't need to apologize.

Hiccup said as he was a little surprised, but he knew it was either a punch on the arm or a kiss on the lips.

You two are definitely in love. That's for sure.

Fishlegs said as Hiccup and Astrid looked over at Fishlegs, who still wasn't looking at them.

You can look now Fishlegs.

Hiccup chuckled and Fishlegs slowly turned around and took a deep breath. He said that he was going to take Meatlug out and give them a little privacy. Hiccup chuckled and said that they were going to leave too. Fishlegs took Meatlug out for a walk as Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless, and Blackhawk left for the house. As they went their separate ways, they knew that things were going to change, but they just didn't know by how much. When Hiccup and Astrid got back to the house, they saw that Alexandria had come back with a few bandages around her burns.

You okay?

Hiccup asked and Alexandria smiled, she was happy that Thunder didn't kill anyone. The whole front of Alexandria body was red and had some blisters from the minor burns, but she acted like nothing had happened changing the subject.

So have you two discussed plans for a second date?

Alexandria asked and this took Hiccup and Astrid off-guard. They looked at each other a little surprised.

Um... No, not really.

Hiccup said as Astrid was biting her lower lip. She had an idea for a second date. She came up with it after their first date at the cove.

Um... Hiccup... I kind of have an idea of what I want to do on our next date.

Astrid said and Hiccup looked a little relieved, until Astrid whispered in his ear:

I want to go swimming at the cove.

Astrid said with a wink and when he heard this he turned a deep shade of red. He wasn't opposed to the idea; he just didn't have a pair of swimming trunks. He figured that Astrid didn't have a swimsuit either.

Um... Okay. I'll pack us a lunch and we can go in a couple of days. Is that okay?

Hiccup asked and Astrid nodded as she blushed profusely. It was at this moment that Lavender walked in the door.

Mom!

Astrid called out and Lavender smiled at her daughter as she blushed from suggesting the idea for their next date.

Hi sweetie, Your father will be out on a hunting trip for a while. You can come back home.

Lavender said as Astrid looked back at Hiccup and kissed him goodbye.

I'll see you later, okay?

Astrid said and Hiccup kissed her back and said goodbye. As they walked out the door Hiccup looked over at Alexandria.

Thanks for bringing that up.

Hiccup said as Alexandria giggled and said that from what she saw, it was going to be a good date. Hiccup sighed and explained that Astrid wanted to go swimming at the cove.

Well that'll be fun, bet she wants to do more than just swim.

Alexandria replied giggling as Hiccup blushed and rubbed the back of his head.

I guess…

Hiccup said and Alexandria knew she had to change the topic so Hiccup could feel more comfortable. She smiled and said she ran into Star. Hiccup gave a sigh of relief as soon as the topic was changed.

Is she okay?

Hiccup asked and Alexandria nodded.

She's just fine. She's a little upset about Thunder, he's really a stubborn dragon.

Alexandria answered and the two started to talk about the next lesson after that, which was flying. Hiccup explained that he, or Gobber, would have to make a saddle to make her more comfortable.

I'll take care of that, my mom taught me how to make leather saddles and a few other things.

Alexandria said as Hiccup rolled his eyes and sighed.

Is there anything you can't do?

Hiccup asked sarcastically as Alexandria laughed and said that her mother was a Roman after all. Hiccup agreed that the Romans were a little more advanced in Leather and Metal Working, but they still hadn't tamed dragons. She said that every now and again they would get the newest stuff to work with from Roma and there was no sender's name when they received it.

That's true, that's one of the reasons my mom left.

Alexandria said and this interested Hiccup; he had heard the stories of Alexandria's mother, but wasn't told why she left the Roman Empire.

My mom loved dragons; she'd often traveled to a secret spot to play with them as a girl. She left nearly twenty years ago. About that time she met my dad and the two shared their experiences with the dragons.

Alexandria explained and by the sound of the story, Alexandria's mother was a lot like Hiccup.

I guess we're all different.

Hiccup said and Alexandria agreed and gave a blissful sigh.

Hey! Do you think that there is someone out there for me?

Alexandria asked as Hiccup smiled and said yes. There was no doubt that there was someone out there for her.

Was there anyone, besides me, that caught your eye?

Hiccup asked and Alexandria said when she first came to Berk the there wasn't anyone in the Meathead Clan that she liked, but now as she thought even harder she remembered one person.

There is Arthur Stormerson.

Alexandria said and Hiccup had heard the name before, but he couldn't remember where. It turned out that the Stormerson's were good friends of the Hofferson's. Arthur Stormerson was the youngest son of Clyde Stormerson.

I feel like I've heard that name before.

Hiccup said as Alexandria smiled and said that Arthur was from Berk and that he moved to the Meathead with his older brother, James Stormerson. This didn't help too much; it just made Hiccup a little more confused.

Look, why don't you take a walk to try and clear your head.

Alexandria said as Hiccup nodded and said that he would be at the cove. It was one of the spots he could think at. Hiccup walked to the cove, and by the time he got there it was nearly sunset. He looked off into the horizon, reminiscing about his first date with Astrid.

Ah... What am I gonna do?

Hiccup asked himself and he started to think of how he was going to go about this second date. He started to run through scenarios of where Astrid would end up trying to seduce him, and how he could keep her happy (non-sexual). He was so deep in thought he didn't hear the footsteps behind him. He didn't realize that someone was behind him, armed with a sword, dagger, and some throwing knives. He didn't realize until he felt a hand touch his shoulder.

What's a Viking like you doing all the way out here?...

Hiccup was frozen in fear and the voice he heard was a mix of Latin and Nordic…
