Phantom was ripped out of their theorising when a consistent tapping noise captured their attention.
Someone was coming.
Phantom shoved the scroll in their leather pouch and retreated to a darker part of the cave. The sunlight flooded the dark cave as someone pushed the vines covering the entrance aside.
Phantom squinted as a beam of light hit them right in the eyes, letting out a small hiss they pressed their back against the cold stone and prepared to defend themself.
As the blinding light disappeared Phantom quickly blinked, begging quietly for their eyes to readjust to the darkness.
"Stay away!" They hissed.
"My intentions are not hostile, I will not hurt you." The stranger's voice had an odd sound to it.
Phantom focused their stare onto the stranger and examined them, they had metallic skin and their eyes glowed brightly, something in their voice helped Phantom trust them.
"Who are you and what do you want?" Phantom growled.
"My name is Zane Julien and I want to offer you a deal." The former stranger said.
Zane Julien? The name did sound familiar but Phantom couldn't quite pinpoint why.
"What kind of deal?" Phantom carefully approached Zane.
"I happen to know you are on the run. My brother and I could offer you shelter and food, we could also show you the extent of your power over wind." Zane was moving slowly, probably to not alarm Phantom.
Also what the mortem was a brother?
"What would you want in return?" Phantom frowned.
"Knowledge and occasional chores." Zane smiled warmly.
It did sound like a pretty good deal… But would it be worth it?
"Can I have time to consider your offer?" Phantom asked.
"Of course. Would it be alright with you if I returned tomorrow at dusk?" The metallic man offered.
Phantom nodded: "that works."
"Splendid. I will see you tomorrow then." Zane smiled and walked off, leaning quite a bit on his bo staff as he did so.
As the sun reflected off the stranger's metal skin a memory popped into Phantom's head.
The white ninja.
