Chapter Eight-Lillian

The chaos at LexCorp had created an unforgettable night of drama, as a gala meant to celebrate the wonderful things that had happened after the Incident. And then, assailants had entered the building and killed many, only to be killed in turn by a new arrival to the city. With such precision, brutality, and grace, he not only killed the assailants, but had managed to evacuate everyone to safety. This entire night had left created many questions, which needed answers, answers that would be very difficult to come by.

The police and paramedics had arrived to check over the people that were saved. Amidst everything, Lillian Luthor had been searching for her daughter. The person who saved her, had taken her somewhere. She was incensed by what had happened, but she could not worry about that right now. Right now, her daughter had been her priority.

Lena Luthor had always been a sore subject for Lillian. Lena was the product of an affair, between her husband and his mistress. When she learned about this, she was incensed. To her, Len's existence meant that Lionel Luthor never truly loved her, and found his joy in another woman. Lillian had made it her personal mission to make Lena's life a living hell, despite her favored child, Lex, treating Lena with kindness, in his own crazy way.

In Lillian's eyes, Lena was the outsider, the child that robbed her of her identity and love, and she vowed to remind her that she was nothing but a black sheep, a child who would remain forever an outsider, and she would receive no love or affection from her, even though Lena craved those very things from her. Nothing Lena did ever measured up for Lillian, except for one time, where a girl stole her boyfriend, and Lena took revenge by outing her public diary in front of the entire school, which ruined that child's life. It was for the first time that Lillian told Lena in her cruelty that she was acting like a Luthor, savoring the grief-stricken expression on her face.

However, this all changed when the Incident happened. National City was caught in such carnage as the Battle of Titans had occurred. Buildings and roads were torn apart like tissue paper, as the sky was filled with ash, the streets painted with blood, and the screams of the dead permeating throughout the city.

After the screams had ended and the carnage had stopped, and when the titans in the sky had left, the people on the ground searched for their loved ones. For the first time, Lillian had her heart in her throat. Lena was on the ground, a grievous wound covering her stomach, as Lillian noticed that Lena's mother was dead beside her. Lillian shook her head. She hated Lena's mother, but even she would never wish this on anyone.

And when she saw Lena's injured person, she felt deep pain. In the hospital, Lena's recovery was slow. And when she recovered, Lena received such horrible news; that she would never be able to carry a child to term ever in her life, that her reproductive organs had been damaged beyond repair. The screams that her daughter produced that day chilled her heart. For the first time in her life, she realized she was cruel to a child who had done absolutely nothing to her. It was Lionel who betrayed her, not Lillian. This incident had also hardened her heart against Metahumans. In her mind, they all were the same, and her efforts to destroy them became greater than ever before.

Lillian decided to now treat Lena as her very own child. She made every effort to care for Lena, and reassure her that her life was not over, that it was still worth living, and that her identity was not defined by her ability to bear children or not.

Lena was very cautious about her stepmother's sudden generosity and kindness, but with her grief, she decided to let Lillian baby her. After her trip from the hospital, Lena chose to keep her distance from Lillian, as she busied herself in other pursuits.

Lillian wondered what her daughter was hiding from her. Lena had kept things quite hidden. She was buying up warehouses, technology, even spending less time at LexCorp, and more time at home and in her warehouses. Lillian had her suspicions about Lena, and what she was doing. And her suspicions had been proven right, when an unidentified humanoid bogey had been flying around in the skies of National City at Mach Speed. In her gut, Lillian knew that Lena was that bogey.

Honestly, Lillian was proud of Lena. She had truly managed to set herself apart and had started to cultivate her own legacy. However, Lillian truly needed to know if Lena had truly made that suit. It is why she held that Gala, to not only Celebrate the city's resilience post Incident, but to lure Lena there and expose her new persona.

However, it had turned into nothing but a disaster. The gala had been beset by faceless metahumans that had indiscriminately killed many. Her daughter was going to become a victim, until another faceless individual had shown up and made quick work of the attackers, before they self-destructed, as this faceless individual had saved her daughter.

As she had rushed outside looking for her daughter, wondering in her anger where that mysterious individual had taken her, to her relief, she was being looked at by the paramedics. The paramedics were fussing over her, while Lena was busy insisting that she was okay. Lillian could not help but rush over and hug her daughter, as she kissed her forehead, and looked at her with a teary expression.

"Lena, thank God. Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Lena was bewildered and confused as to why Lillian was showing her this much affection and care. She shook her head as she smiled at her stepmother to reassure her.

"I'm okay…, mother. I am okay. I am safe. I am glad you are okay."

"Lena, where you able to get a good look at who helped you to safety?"

Lena shook her head. "I am sorry, mother. He was wearing a mask. He brought me to the paramedics and disappeared. I don't know who he is, but he is a hero for helping everybody here.

Lillian clenched her fists, as she put on a peaceful expression. "Yes…, yes he is."

"Sweetheart, do you need to go to a hospital?"

"I am fine mother."

"That is good. We will catch up tomorrow. I will send security to take you home. I will come to check on you later, no buts about it."

Lena sighed. "Yes, mom."

Lillian smiled as she walked away from the scene. She went back to the building and went to her private office, which contained a secret elevator. Using a biometric scanner, she entered the elevator which took her to a private laboratory deep underground. As she entered the laboratory, she found the head scientist and pulled out a firearm and pointed it straight at his face.

"You have a minute to explain this mess."

The scientist stuttered as he came face-to-face with the she-devil herself. He only had one chance to save his ass, and he hoped he could.

"Madam, I am sorry…, I don't know what you want me to say to you. The plan we created was foolproof. The security was lax on purpose, and we set everything up correctly. The arrival of that mysterious individual could not have been foreseen by either of us. The fortunate stroke of luck we had was the kill switches you inserted inside their heads. I had to activate them, otherwise our cover could have been blown. You should not worry too much. There will always be other opportunities."

Lillian narrowed her eyes, before giving him a wicked smile. "And, who do you think that person might be?"

The scientist gulped, desperate to come up with something to live another day. "In all honestly, I have no idea who he is. However, whoever that individual may be, one thing is for certain; that man or woman has power in spades. That individual, along with your daughter could be the key to disrupting all your plans."

Lillian lowered her gun. "I think…, I won't kill you. Go home."

The scientist got out of there as quickly as he could using another secret entrance to avoid unwanted attention and exposure. Maybe, he needed to find another job, one that was safer for his health. There was too much of a health and safety risk working for Lillian Luthor.

Once the scientist had left, Lillian opened a secret compartment containing a blurry picture. It was of a woman, a powerful woman that her forces were tracking. She tried to capture this woman, only for her forces to end up annihilated, which told her that she needed to take a small step back.

And then, there was that other photo, of that other woman. All she could identify was the woman had blond hair, and that she was present during the Incident. It was hardly anything special to go by, considering she could not make out the face, eye color, or any other special features or distinguishing marks. However, this second photo, the image was personal to her. She swore in her soul, that this woman was responsible for Lena's pain. She would find her and make her pay dearly.

And then, there was the gala. She thought that with the chaos she created, her daughter was sure to be exposed as the IronWoman. Instead, she was saved, and her plan went up in flames. While Lillian loved her daughter, she was a threat to her plans. The power Lena had at her fingertips, could be used to help the metahumans. And Lillian could not have that. Her daughter needed to understand, that metahumans were dangerous. With time and molding, her daughter would be a useful asset to her cause.

Lillian Luthor was not a woman to be deterred. She would find out who these women were, and they would either bend to her will and join her, or they would break and die in the attempt. And she would find out more about who this mysterious individual, and the true reason and cause behind the Incident.

Though Lillian would not admit it, she was afraid of these new entities and forces appearing on Earth. If something were not done about it, the Earth and humanity would be destroyed. They could already be during an invasion, and they would not be prepared to fight it. It was up to her to protect Earth. This cause also became personal when her son and daughter was affected by it. In her mind, those bastards brought the war to her, and she would be the one to end it.

It would hurt the cause if her soldiers learned that human found

In Lillian's mind, this was a world for humanity, and for no one else. And it was high time, that humanity fought back. However, before she could fully succeed at eradicating the metahuman problem, there was a traitor in her midst that she needed to root out and punish. And she would relish this task with great fervor.
