Ethan's POV
I followed Eythira down the street. She was silent, and didn't protest the fact that I was following her. I knew because she glanced back my way. We walked through the streets. I occasionally looked at one of the shops, but nothing interested me. It's not like I needed anything, living on the streets and all that. We turned a corner and Eythira stopped in front of a old wooden house. Half of it was broken down and I could see that the front door was smashed.
"It's still there", she murmured.
"What is that?" I asked.
"My old house", she responded. "The one my mother died in to save me." I saw that she was trying hard not to cry, but she looked like she couldn;t hold it anymore. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder.
"I understand. You just need to let it out once in a while. It's not healthy for you." I told her.
Tears streamed down her face and she leaned in to me.
"She took care of me. Even though we weren't exactly in the best living conditions, she still cared for me. That night…"
"My mother cared too, until she died of leukemia. She told me to be strong and that my father would come for me. He never did until I was attacked. I stayed in the orphanage where people would mock me until I ran away."
She looked at me. "I didn't know you had such a story." I smiled at her. "Our demi-primordial lives aren't exactly easy, you know."
"That night", Eythira continued,
Flashback (Ethan is hearing this from Eythira)(Eythira POV)
We were having a normal dinner of hot dogs and water. We didn;t have much, but we were happy. I would play in the snow. My mother would sometimes tell me to stay inside while she went outside to do something. I didn;t mind. She did everything she could for me. However that night everything changed.
My mother went outside like she did once in a while. This time, the door burst open, and my mother stood there with a sword. Demonic dogs and huge giants burst through. In the middle stood a snake woman and a huge beast with a snake for a tail. It had a lion head and a goat
head sprouting out of its body. I was terrified. Shadows leaped out of the walls and began to fight the beasts. It was Echidna and the Chimera. My mother took me outside and gave me a ring.
"Keep it safe Eythira, it's a gift for your great grandmother." She left me there, and ran back to the house.
There was a blizzard outside, and it was cold. After a while my mother came back. She wasn;t alone, the entire group of monsters was with her. The Chimera was gone, along with several others, but my mother was chained.
"You will pay for killing my son", Echidna said. She stabbed my mother over and over again in my face and I watched her die. Finally, Echidna threw on on the floor and blood stained the snow. They took me and pulled me deeper into the storm. I was cold, only wearing a light jacket. Echidna laughed at me. When I tried to run, she pulled me back and threw me back in the snow. Pretty soon, I was suffering from hypothermia but Echidna forced me to move. Just as when I thought I was going to die, someone appeared.
Nico came with his stytian iron sword and cut through the monsters, with skeletons fighting for him. Echidna fought him, but when her monster unit disappeared, she cursed Nico before she disappeared. Nico took me back to Camp Half-Blood.
End of flashback.
Ethan's POV
I listened silently as Eythira told her story. I wanted to go to the monsters and strangle them right now. How could they do that to an 8 year old kid?
Eythira shuddered and I rubbed her back.
"It's ok Eythira, it's not gonna happen again. I'll protect you." We stayed like that for a while before Eythira got up and thanked me.
"Thank you, I needed that". We turned the corner to see Percy and Annabeth, looking for us. \
"There you guys are. We were looking all over town!" Percy exclaimed.
"Eythira needed some help, so I helped her."I said. Percy nodded.
"You know where we're supposed to find the Shield?" he asked.
"It's probably somewhere in the Northwestern territory." Annabeth gave the earth to us with a thick winter coat.
"We need to keep warm. Let's go, everyone."
We got started on the road. We walked straight for a few minutes, our boots making deep footprints in the ground. A winter storm was raging on. Snow blew against our faces and the winds pushed against us, but boneless, we trudged on.
I noticed Eythira was a little pale and shivering. I squeezed her hand and said, "It's going to be fine. No worries, you aren't alone this time." Eythir nodded and stayed close to me. We trudged on for a few minutes before I turned around.
"Where's Percy and Annabeth?" Eythira's eyes widened as she looked around us. All we saw was a vast area filled with snow.
"I'll try to reach out to him" I said, trying to reassure Eythira. I took some water and reached another, feeling for anything I can find stepping on the snow. Since snow was water as well, I couldn't control it in some form. I felt forms all around us. Too late, I raised my sword as snow smacked me from all sides.
A femine laugh pierced the howl of the storm. "So little Eythira, you have come back to me, yes?" A huge number of water figures appeared, and a water figure, clad in frozen armor, approached us, much like the one we faced in Montauk.
"You thought you could escape me? This whole place is freshwater. You have no power here!" Hydros laughed and chained me and Eythira. They started dragging us with them. Eythira tried to stay, but the water figures were surprisingly strong. Eythira shouted "Stop!", over and over, but no one paid her any attention. I stood next to her as tears began to form in her eyes. Her eyes were full of fear.
If anyone told me that before this day, people were going to tease Eythira and make her cry, I wouldn't have believed it. Echidna picked Eythira up and threw her into the snow. She ripped her winter coat off and the water figures started petting her with snowballs. She was trembling and scared by now. As she tried to curl into a ball but Echidna kept throwing her into the snow. My anger boiled as I tried to break the ice chains but nothing happened. I tried my best to defend Ethira against the snow, but Hydros froze and shattered my coat. By now, I was freezing as well. Ice was getting in under my long sleeve, and it wasn't convenient clothing for -12 weather like here in Canada. I could hearing Eythira moaning and telling the figures to stop, but they continued. We had stopped now in front of a temple.
"Aww, such a cutie. The giants would love you as a pet." Echidna said to Ethira, then laughed.
I couldn't keep my rage at anything. I felt around for water I could control, and deep on the surface, I felt the seawater flowing in from the Arctic shore.
The ground burst open as I melted the snowballs through at Eythira. I summoned my sword, Wayside, and before any could react I swung my sword through a very surprised Hydros. He melted. I cut through all the water figurines before launching at Echidna, slashing wildly at her as she cried out in pain.
"You will pay for that", I growled at her as I dealt the finishing blow to her and then froze her remains inside an icy tomb. I made my way to Eythira and helped her up.
"Are you ok?" I asked her. She just clung to me as I fell into unconsciousness.
Eythira's POV
I woke up and felt that I was laying on something soft. I curled about more, enjoying the warmth until I remembered what happened last night. I jumped up and Annabeth walked over to me.
"Are you ok?" she asked me. I nodded. We were in front of the temple, and there was a fire in the middle of the camp. I grabbed a spare coat from the bag and wrapped around myself.
Percy grinned at me. "You had a nice night?" I nodded, then realized what I was agreeing about. Percy laughed and said, "You too look cute together." I turned red and glared at him, but they didn't notice due to the coldness.
"Stop teasing her, Percy." Annabeth said. Percy just wrapped his arms around her. I heard a noise and saw that Ethan was stirring in his sleep. I sat down next to the fire.
He got up and rubbed his eyes.
"Oh hey, you're awake, '' he said to me with a smile. I smiled back and tossed him a winter coat.
"Warm up, it's pretty cold out here." I didn't tell him, but I was grateful that he killed Echidna. It still shook me a bit, but I was not as afraid anymore with him around.
We ate some pasta we had over the fire.
"In the temple?", Ethan asked. Percy nodded his head.
"Weapons ready, we don;t know what's inside." Etha nodded and wrapped ice armor around me, Percy, Annabteh and himself. I looked at him in surprise.
"It's a neat trick I learned fighting Echidna", he explained. Percy grinned. Together, we walked
into the temple.
Crystal POV
After we arrived in Nevada, Hazel went to scout for the Sword of Asiester, since metals were her specialty and that sword was certainly with a lot, at least in the eyes of mortals. An ancient sword like that would be worth millions of dollars. Of course, us demi-gods/primordials have a much better use for it. Night was settling and I took my first watch. Elrond fell asleep while I watched his chest rise and fall. Frank was still up and about, te nse, because Hazel still hasn't returned yet.
A shadow rose over the hill and I tensed, raising my sword and got ready for combat.
"Guys, it's me", the figure said, and we saw that it was Hazel. Her clothes were cut in several places and she was bleeding from several scrapes on her arms and legs. Frank immediately ran over to Hazel and wrapped her in a bear hug. She winced.
"Sorry. Where have you been? I was worried!", Frank said to her, with concern in his eyes
"I found the place. Got into a fight with a few of the monsters surrounding the entrance. Went into the place, but too many traps. Bad news, the enemies are searching for the sword as well."
Ethan's POV
We entered the Arctic temple cautiously. Ancient engravings showed on the walls and pictures of nomads plastered the walls. Annabeth was fascinated. We walked along, with Annabeth peering at the walls while me and Percy led the group's weapons out. Eythira was behind us with an arrow drawn back on her bow.
Soon the hall changed, and we came into a long tunnel with a door at the end. Dragon heads poked out of the walls and ancient words were written under the heads.
"Dragons did exist!"Annabeth exclaimed, touching one of the engravings on the walls.
"Be careful Annabeth-"Percy started before his foot stepped down on a piece of the floor that pressed down.
We froze before the dragon figureheads flickered to life as arrows streamed out of their throats firing at us. My ice armor brought us some time as Percy deflected the arrows with Annabeth. Eythira dodged and sliced the arrows out of the way. I reacted too slowly and got knocked back and formed more ice over my head. I stumbled and fell. However, Eythira caught me and smiled before helping me back on my feet.
"Thought it would be a guy catching the girl, not the other way around, " she said, and my cheeks turned red.
"This is a dangerous place," Percy said. "We need to be more careful."
"Yeah seaweed brain, watch yourself, you need to see what you step on", Annabeth teased.
"Hey! It's not my fault i'm the first one to reach the trigger!" Percy shot back. We continued down the hall. Nothing seemed out of place until we reached the door. Behind was a room with various pots and vases littering the floor, with a huge pool of water in the middle of the room. There were no other entrances in the room.
Annabeth walked forward and bent down, inspecting one of the vases.
"These paintings on the vases, they show the life of the nomads living here." Annabeth explained.
"Anything useful about this place?", Percy asked. Annabeth shook her head. A vase close to the corner of the room moved. Everyone tensed. Suddenly a dark shape moving faster than I could see flashed towards Annabeth. In a flash, Percy was there as he blocked the creature's attempt and slashed at it with Riptide, his faithful sword.
Percy followed the creature across the room as he locked in combat with the creature. Eythira knocked an arrow and launched it at the creature before it wailed in agony and jumped into the pool and swam away.
"It can swim", Percy noted.
"It was a sea monkey, creatures that lived in the seas. They were present in the time when Pontus and Hydros ruled the seas," Annabeth explained.
"So, down the pool?" Percy asked. Annabeth nodded and Percy grabbed her hand before jumping in. I looked to Eythira. She nodded and took my hand recently and we jumped into the water with no visible splash.
Eythira POV
We traveled down the pool. I looked outside and saw nothing but emptiness and darkness. This wasn't like the lake. It was a dangerous place. I poked the end of the bubble and that was very stupid. The water burned me and I yelped in pain. Ethan looked over to me.
"Are you ok?", he asked.
"I'm fine", I answered. This place was creepy and really strange.
"Don't touch the water!" Ethan yelled, and Percy gave a nod, indicating that he had received the message.
"Is it just me or is the water getting hotter?", Ethan asked.
I looked around me and felt that it was starting to get humid. I saw beads of sweat forming on my skin and I shouted, "Quick, get out of here!"
Ethan exchanged glances with Percy as Percy pointed to a cave. We went in, and I saw that the water around us was bubbling. The water is boiling, I realized. My head was starting to hurt as I leaned on Ethan. We traveled into the cave and swam upwards and came up in a room looking the same as the one before. I gasped for air and Ethan grunted underneath me. I jumped off and inspected the damage.
There were burns all over us and I touched one, wincing. Our ice armor melted too. Annabeth reached into the bag and offered us ambrosia. The burns died down and it didn't hurt as much anymore.
"There's a hall there", Ethan said, pointing to a gateway at the other side of the room.
"Where's the sea monkey? It couldn;t have survived that boiling water", Percy said.
Annabeth nodded at the archway. "Probably there was well." We got up and retrieved our weapons, and I knocked an arrow, alert to any threats. We darted out of the archway, facing both directions. There was nothing there, just two empty halls made out of stone.
"We split up?", Annabeth suggested. "Eythira with Stand and me with Percy."
Percy looked worried.
"Are you going to be ok, Ethan?" he asked.
"I'm gonna be fine", Ethan said reassuringly.
"Alright then, be safe buddy." We agreed to meet back at this point after we had explored most of our tunnels and agreed to run from danger.
Etha and I started down the hall, approaching the end cautiously. When we reached the end, there was only one room at the end of the hall. We went in, only to see a room full of paintings and a huge tomb in the center of the room.
Ethan used the light from his sword and looked around, just to see the painting.
"These paintings just show battles and hunts for sea animals. Nothing interesting." he said.
I shook my head. "We should check the tomb, the sword might be buried with whoever is inside the tomb.
Percy's POV
We advanced down the hall, and I looked behind us to see Ethan and Eythira going slowly down their tunnel.
"Worried?", Annabeth asked.
"You know Wise girl, they remind me so much of you and me. You were so saractic. "You were drooling", Percy mimicked, and Annabeth laughed.
"Says who, king of sarcasm?" Annabeth said back. I smiled and then quickly noticed that something was off. A black shadow launched itself at me and I slashed at it effectively making a long gash on the arm of the sea monkey. It hissed and kicked my leg, making me kneel down with a grunt. Man, that dude really hits hard. Who says sea creatures weren;t as powerful as land creatures. Annabeth stabbed at it and ducked the monkey's swing. I took out a water bottle and opened it and froze the water. I slammed the ice shard into the moon key, making wounds in its skin and then slashed his head off. Annabeth stood up.
"These creatures are unlike any I have ever encountered before, they're definity a lot harder to fight than dracaenae and I had to agree. We went down another hallway and found ourselves at another dead end.
"Seriously, is this place just empty?" I asked, punching and kicking the walls.
"Wait Percy," Annabeth said as she began to feel the walls, looking for some kind of trigger. A scorpion crawled out of a hole in the walls and the door shut down behind us.
"This is a death chamber!" I shouted and sliced off its tail and stomped on it. Annabeth withdrew from the walls as she drew her own knife and struck another scorpion. The hole busted open with hundreds of scorpions and I attacked them. Due to the fact that there were so many, me and Annabeth were bitten a few times.
"Are scorpions venomous?" I asked.
Annabeth winced. "Seaweed brain, of course they are, we should eat some nectar." Me and Annabeth took turns drinking the flash of nectar before Annabeth resumed looking for a trigger button.
"There has to be a way out of here", she muttered before she smiled and pushed a piece of rock that seemed to fit in the walls naturally. The walls opened to a long stairway going deep down.
"Whoever designed this place was obviously a genius", she said. "I didn't know ancient people have this type of technology."
"Yeah, and their trying to kill us" I said. Annabeth grinned as she leaned on me.
"This poison isn't natural, it's not supposed to be so strong. We need to get out of here faster." she said. I have to agree because the poison was making me lightheaded as I fed her some ambrosia. We walked down the staircase.
Ethans POV
Eythira keeped her arrow trained on the opening of the tomb as I sliced the rim of the lid and slide the blade, cutting the wrapping around the tomb. I grunted as I pushed the lid off.
"Why do they make these so heavy", I muttered and Eythira grinned. I shoved the lid off gasping as Eythira walked closer to the tomb and peered in. She wrinkled her nose and said, "Gross". I looked inside and saw a deformed person with 7 arms and 3 legs preserved in some kind of water. My stomach lurched and I run to the side of the temple, throwing up my breakfast. Eythira smirked.
"You threw up first."
"I didn;t knew this was a competition" I said.
"You need to lift it up to see if there's anything under," Eythira told me.
"Why me?" I said.
Eythira laughed and said, "Stop being childish, just do it, if you're the man." I grumbled, but seeing her smile made me happier. I quickly grabbed a arm and threw it over my shoulder, not wanting to be contact with it for any longer than it should. It was lighter than I expected and it hurled across the room, slamming into the wall.
Eythira rose one eyebrow. "I didn;t know you was such a show-off."
"It was light, plsu who wants to touch that thing for so long? I just lifted it and it was like, 25 pounds or something. We looked in the tomb to see a huge piece of rock at the bottom of the tomb.
"Um, do we lift this too?" I asked.
"Yeah, I guess," she said At least this time she helped me. We lifted it and I struggled under it, and we dropped it on the floor gasping. Looking over again, we saw a hole.
"A hole? A god damned hole, for all that trouble?" I exclaimed. Eythira held her hand up for a silence. A creature on fours ruan at us, and Eythira released her arrow. It bounced off the skin.
My eyes widened as my father told me, run, you can't kill it. It bit Eythira and she gave a cry of pain as she fell to the floor. Please don;t be lethal poison, I thought. I caught her before she could fall to the floor, and ran for the archway, but in place there was a stone wall. I scrambled around and slashed at the creature before running towards the tomb. No time to think now, I thought as I jumped into the hole and traveled down the hole. Eythira was looking very pale and she was in pain. I could see it in her eyes. She tried not to show it but she let another wail of anguish as she couldn't keep it inside her anymore.
Her skin was looking blue and I fell to the ground. She whimpered as I set her on the floor and dug desperately into my bag for ambrosia.
"Ethan?" a voice asked and I turned to see Percy and Ananbeth coming out of a staircase. His eyes widened as he caught sight of Eythira on the floor. He rushed towards me.
Use the water from the fountain to heal her. I jumped up and searched the room for a fountain. I rushed towards it.
"Wha-" Annabeth started but I was too busy to listen to her. I filled my bottle with a bit of water and then ran back to Eythira, feeding her the water. She swallowed painfully, and became less pale. She coughed and I patted her back, returning from my state of panic.
Annabeth started towards the fountain. "The Fountain of Youth? She asked, confused.
"Thanks," Eythira muttered before falling asleep on my shoulder. I gently put her head down on the wall and got up. A thunder could be heard as the creature who bit Eythira fell on the floor.
I gasped. "That's the poison lizard that bit Eythira!"
Deformed, with moist skin and 4 legs, it ran towards me. I was quick to summon the water from the fountain and splashed it on it, trapping it in a water ball. It screeched as its skins became better and it burned in the water, before falling to the floor a husk.
Percy grinned and said, "Nice job bro."
Annabeth nodded and said, "We should camp here tonight for rest." I nodded as I fell asleep beside Eythira.
Time Skip 12 hours.
We were ready, and Eythira was already looking normal. Annabeth and Percy have drunk the water from the fountain and they looked better than before, their scorpion bites disappearing. I also took a drink from the fountain and felt rejuiced. We approached the hallway and entered a room full of books. In the back was what we were looking for- The Shield of Proslight.
Cliffhanger there, but I'll post in 3 days time, so no problem. This chapter was slightly longer, so enjoy.
