A/N: Alright so I know I haven't updated this story in a long while but after several people requested an update on this one, I felt that I needed to go back to it and write something for you guys so here it is, so very long overdue.
The whole Unit became dead silent as Adam spoke in his phone and Kevin was on him as soon as he hung up.
"What is it Ruz?"
"They found Katie's burning car. 51 took the call."
"Damn." Both Kevin and Adam felt the same feeling of dread fall over them. Their girl needed to be found and fast.
"Get forensics down here now." Voight was losing patience. One of their own was missing and their clues were running out. "Adam, Kevin. Try to find something in here. The rest, toss the apartment for anything that can help." The team left Adam and Kevin in the room with Voight while they looked through the rest of the apartment.
"We'll find her Ruz." Kevin breathed out.
"Sooner rather than later." He whispered, pulling a picture from the huge board that was on Katie's bedroom wall. She had clearly been following Kim for a while, the number of pictures confirming as much. Most of them were of her alone running errands, going on a jog and such while the few that included him, Kim had been replaced by photos of her. She was clearly too lost in her delusion to walk it back and that scared him more than anything else.
"Do we know if she has any family member in Chicago?"
"Not from what I could put my hands on."
"Alright, so we go with what we know, and we keep digging. Kim's going to be alright Adam." He clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Call me if you find anything, I'll head over to the scene and see if I can't find anything.
"Thanks, Sarge." Adam nodded at his superior and went back to work trying to find clues.
"Catch me if you can, before it's too late." Kim pulled at her restraints as Katie turned off the video. She couldn't talk anymore after being gagged but she needed to get Katie to talk so she moved forcefully on the chair, pulling at her restraints and trying to scream through the gag. "Oh my god, will you SHUT UP ALREADY?" Katie turned on a dime and grabbed Kim by the arms, shaking her. "HE'LL BE MINE!" She ripped the gag out of Kim's mouth.
"He's married to me Katie; you can't change that. You can't make him love you." Kim was mad but she was trying to appeal to Katie's humanity, hoping she had one.
"He already loves me; he just doesn't know it yet." She returned the gag between Kim's lips. She motioned for the guy with her to leave them alone. Katie circled Kim, her fingers running against her arm and onto her shoulder. "I could see it in his eyes when we talked at the Molly's." She whispered into Kim's ear. "Being with you is just for show." Kim could now feel Katie's hands on her own. "I'll tell you this though, he has beautiful taste in jewelry." Kim could feel her wedding rings being removed from her finger but even if she shook her body to try to get out of Katie's grasp, she couldn't. "I can get past the fact that he gave them to you." She slipped them on her own ring finger fitting just right. "See, it was meant to be." She laughed. "I think it's time that we send Adam a little something." She took her phone out and started snapping pictures of Kim, still tied to the chair.
Kim was trying to concentrate while Katie whispered in her ears. She was trying to remember the way they had taken to make it in this chair. When the cruiser was rammed into the side, her world had slipped to black faster than she could have imagined but when she woke up in the car, she could smell the water and dirt and the car was making familiar rackety noises, so she was pretty sure that they were going over a bridge, to the place Voight used to bring the dirtiest criminals but that no one ever really mentioned since Erin's departure.
"I can see the wheels in your head turning in your heaaadd." Katie sing sang when she finished taking the pictures, sending them out to someone.
"And I can see that you're a crazy bitch so we both see things." Kim was really starting to lose her patience with her, but she was powerless to do anything about it.
"You won't be so brave when I'm done with you." She settled her phone on a tripod that was looking in Kim's direction and started the video. "Now, I thought that maybe we could send my husband a video just so we can show him how much better with me he would be." She looked up at the camera.
"You're psychotic." Kim's head was pulled backwards by the hair by Katie's fingers tangled in it.
"Now, now, Kim, that's not the way you treat me." She hissed in Kim's ear. "Do you have some last words for Adam before he leaves you?" She looked at the camera with a smile, pushing a strand of hair away from Kim's face.
The whole unit was starting to be restless, and Adam was starting to get angry. They were running dead end after dead end and he didn't know how long he could continue without breaking. They had found nothing at Katie's place other than a massive number of pictures of Kim but nothing that could indicate where they could be. Katie was intelligent enough that she didn't keep any evidence at her place or at least had scrubbed the whole place clean before putting her plan in motion.
"So, what next?" Adam slammed his palms against his desk, unable to hold his anger in any longer.
"You go home, take a shower and eat, then we come back with a fresh perspective."
"No way in hell Sarge." He growled. "I'm not going anywhere until we find Kim."
"You're not going to help Kim if you can't think properly."
"You're going to tell me that you were thinking clearly when we were racing to find Justin?" Voight took a step in Adam's direction, anger on his feature. "If you had waited, he would have been dead already."
"Watch it, Adam." Voight knew how Adam felt, he didn't wish that on anyone, but his mind wasn't clear to solve this.
"It's Kim boss."
"I know, but just, take the time, even if it's just a little, and we'll call if we find something on our end."
"Alright." He said, defeated. "I'll go shower and I'll be back." He had been awake she had been taken. "Half hour." Adam turned without another word and was out the door.
"Alright, I want everyone to go through everything we've got again. There needs to be something we can find." Voight
Adam drove towards the house, his mind going over all of the evidence of the case. They were running out of time and even if he had told Voight that he was taking the break, his brain was not totally shut off. He cut the engine off when he made it to his place. He ran his hand over his face and sighed. He really wanted to get this over with and have Kim back safely in his arms. When he slipped his hand in his jean pockets to retrieve his keys, he noticed the white envelope in front of the door with his name on it.
"What the hell?" He instinctively pulled his radio from his belt and looked around him for anyone suspicious but there was no one. "5021 IDA. I have a suspect envelope, roll in the crime lab at my house." He refused to touch it until they came to look at it, but he had a gut feeling that was in it wasn't good. The whole team was there within fifteen minutes and the crime lab wasn't all that far behind.
"Did you see anything, anyone?" Jay questioned as they made it on scene.
"Nothing, it must have been here before I got here."
"It's all clear." The tech gave the all clear. Adam quickly snatched the enveloped and ripped the side open, pulling out pictures and a cd. He went through each of them and the blood in his veins was boiling. First the video at the district now this?
"We should bring it back to the district and look what's on it." Kevin suggested.
"Kim's computer is inside, we're not waiting." Adam unlocked their door and went through the house to find the laptop. He grabbed the cd from Kevin's hand and slipped in, waiting for the video to start.
"Adam, I love you. No matter what we went through, you're the only one I ever loved. The only one who ever saw it before either one of us was Erin. She knew I was digging myself into a deep love for you and she was right. She was always right, and she was always on our side. So, no matter what happens here, even if I know I'll lose you to Katie, you should start digging, just in case. That's where you'll find my love, deep inside of your heart, always."
"I know where she is." Adam suddenly cut through the stillness of the room
"What?" Antonio had heard every word, but his eyes were scanning the background to find a clue that could help them locate her. "How do you know that?"
"The Silos. It has to be. Talking about Erin, about digging. That's where she is Sarge"
"Then we suit up." Voight trusted Adam's gut. The whole team scrambled, their vests ready in the car. Kevin was riding with Adam to try to keep him grounded.
"We'll find her Ruz, she'll be okay."
"She has to be, I can't lose her."
"And you won't." He clapped a hand on his shoulder. The rest of the ride was silent, Adam's thoughts all over the place. It was clear that Katie wasn't sane, that her mind was playing a terrible trick on her to make her act like that. But that's what scared him the most. Her state of mind and her belief that they were meant to be together, Kim at her mercy, it scared the crap out of him.
"Drive faster."
"I am." Adam felt the car pick up speed until they made it to their destination.
"Alright, listen up." Everyone's attention was on Voight, the hand that was sitting on the butt of Adam's gun was shaking lightly. They were wasting time and he didn't like that. "There is a lot of ground to cover. Teams of two and I want everyone to call in their progress. Antonio went with Voight, Kevin with Adam and Jay with Hailey. Let's start canvassing." Everybody went and as they did, Adam heard reports as they went, every building clear. There weren't many left, including the docks, but that was too obvious. Every team converged towards Adam and Kevin who neared the last two buildings by the water.
"We've got the front." Adam readied himself by the door, Kevin on the other side with Voight and Antonio flanked them.
"We've got the back." Jay made his way around, Hailey on his tail.
"On three." Adam said into his two way. Everyone nodded. "On, two, three." The door broke down easily under Adam's boot and his senses were on high alert as they cleared the rooms. "KIM!" He bellowed. "Kim, if you can hear me, call out."
Kim heard him! It was the sweetest sound to her ears, but she couldn't call out, Katie having returned the gag to its place between her lips. One thing she still had was hope. Hope that Adam would find her and hope that Katie would be put somewhere she wouldn't be able to hurt anyone anymore.
Adam's skin was humming as they cleared the space. He hoped in his heart that she was here, that they hadn't chosen the wrong building to clear. The top floor was cleared by Hailey and Jay while the rest of the team had cleared most of the main floor. They were down to the back area and they looked at each other in silence, everyone nodding before Antonio shouldered the door.
"Chicago PD!" Adam pushed past Antonio and he had never been happier to see her in his entire life.
"Kim."
A/N: So they finally found her but is Katie with her, or in what state does Adam find her in that room? I hope you guys liked it and please take a few seconds to review before you go, I always love to read your thoughts. - Sarra
