I DO NOT OWN REIGN. SHOUTOUT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED WITH AND REVIEWED THIS STORY.
French Court. The Next Day.
Shawn rose from bed after another night of mind blowing sex with his manservant. Baldoin was still asleep as Shawn got up and poured himself a glass of wine. He looked out the window into the courtyard and saw Bash speaking to a religious looking fellow.
"What's going on outside?" Baldoin inquired as he rose from the bed.
"Someone's talking to Bash, looks like he's from the Vatican or some shit." Shawn answered as he downed his wine and began to get dressed. Once he finished, he went into the throne room. He saw a man dressed in Vatican style robes and he was clearly displeased with Francis and Bash. Shawn decided to hide in the wings and eavesdrop.
"Prince Condè has been accused of bearing the brand." The cardinal said.
"Who has accused him?" Francis inquired.
"I learned the news through confession, therefore my source must remain secret." He insisted. "My penitent was...a married woman."
"So Condé slept with her...convenient that she's coming forward now." Bash challenged.
"Condé is a patriot and a friend of the crown, I struggle to see him has dangerous." The King added.
"I understand your reluctance, but the matter is easily settled: my men will bring Prince Condé in so that we may see if he wears the brand or not. If he does, he'll hang!" The cardinal declared. Shawn hid himself as the cardinal passed. Once the coast was clear, Shawn approached Bash.
"What the Hell is going on with that Vatican guy?" He asked.
"Cardinal Randall has been sent here by The Pope to root out Protestant traitors." Bash answered as Shawn's heart sank.
"Damn it!" Shawn swore as this caught the attention of the King's deputy.
"Come with me." Bash said as he led Shawn to a secret corridor.
"What now?"
"Shawn...are you a Protestant?" The Marquis sighed for a moment before looking at Bash.
"I'm an...ex-Protestant." He admitted.
"An ex-Protestant?" Bash asked in confusion.
"I was raised in the Lutheran faith, it when I came out as bisexual, my church threw me out." Shawn explained as Bash heaved a sigh.
"Shawn, I beseech you not to tell anyone else of this. There are many at court who see Protestants as a threat." He insisted.
"I assume that their opinion is once a Protestant, always a Protestant." Shawn remarked.
"Yes." Bash said intently.
"I'll take it to my grave." Shawn assured his friend as he decided to go back to his room, he was need of some serious stress relief.
