(Season 3x25 = Boo Normal)
Note: I loved the bonus episodes. Especially this one, because it focuses on our forensic scientist Ella Lopez.
It was another lovely day in the city of Los-Angeles and Ella Lopez was walking towards the latest crime scene in a suburban area with a smile on her face while kindly greeting all of her colleagues at the scene.
# One of Ella's best qualities. Always finding a reason to complement people and make them feel good about themselves.
By the time Ella arrived at the crime scene, Jophiel was already there taking notes. Their latest murder victim was a child psychologist named Dr. Beth Daly. She was found in her office with the cause of death appearing to be blunt force trauma to the head.
Hairstyle: Loose bun clipped up with a large Red snap-clip
Top: Mint-green scoop-neck short-sleeve-tied t-shirt with Red trim and a ripped/marled Red Valentine heart
Bottoms: Baby-Blue ripped jeans
Footwear: Tan-Brown calf-length flat-heel boots
Nail-polish: Red
Earrings: Silver heart huggie-earrings
Necklace: Silver heart choker pendant necklace
Jophiel: ^Cap & Gloves: On^ Morning Ella.
Ella: Morning partner. OMG, I so love your top.
Jophiel: Thank you. It's always lovely to hear an 'Ella complement' in the morning.
Ella: Oh, please. Anyway, who's our vic?
Jophiel: Say hello to Dr. Beth Daly. Child psychologist. She was found earlier this morning.
Ella: (Takes out her camera) *Sighs* Tough break Beth. But we're gonna figure out what happened to you.
Not long after learning more details about the victim and the cause of death, Lucifer and Chloe finally arrived. While Chloe was taking statements, Lucifer was browsing around the office.
Before she finished taking pictures of the victim, Ella received a phone-call from her brother.
Ella: Hey little brother. (Puts down her camera) You did what? They said that? Well, that's never gonna happen. (Oblivious to notice Lucifer picking up her camera to take pictures of his own private parts) Seriously? Fine, okay!
Jophiel: (Hears the camera flashing) Lucifer!
Ella: Dude! What are you doing? (Struggles to take the camera back from Lucifer)
Lucifer: Well, this macro-lens gets so much more detail than my phone camera does.
Ella: Gross!
Lucifer: Oh, someone's a crabby-pants today.
Chloe: How's it going Ella?
Ella: Couldn't be better.
Jophiel: Is everything okay?
Ella: Yeah, sorry, my brother just called.
Lucifer: Ah, right. Well, family are the worst. Crab away.
Jophiel: Hey, member of your family standing right here.
Ella: Well, apparently, uh, the member of my family moved back to Detroit a week ago. And did he bother to give me a heads-up? Uh, no, señor. Not to mention that he's the reason I moved out to L.A. in the first place. And now my whole family wants me to move back home, too.
Jophiel: Wait, are you, really thinking about moving back to Detroit?
Ella: Well, you guys know how much I love it here, but… they're my family. So, you know, yeah.
Chloe: Well, Ella, you know, I'm… I'm trying to be supportive, but-
Lucifer: Well I'm not. Don't you dare go.
Ella: I may not have a choice.
Jophiel: Everyone has a choice, Ella-
Ella: Anywho, um, so much going on here. Let me show you. (Shows Lucifer and Chloe the victim) This right here is Dr. Beth Daly, child psychologist.
Chloe: Looks like blunt force trauma. Someone hit her over the head?
Ella: Yes and yes, but there's so much more to it than that. (Hands Jophiel the camera so she can re-enact the murder) From what I can tell, the killer was standing here. (Stands near the bookshelf) When they grabbed their murder weapon. You see this spot in the dust, right here? Fallen books and only one bookend.
Chloe: So she was killed with the missing bookend?
Jophiel: Well, I just compared the wounds on Beth's head to that bookend there and they match. So the murder weapon is definitely the missing one.
Ella: Mm, yes and no. So the bookend… (Acts out Beth's death) Made her woozy, right? And then, she stumbled, slipped on this toy train, grabbed this chair, fell back, hit her head on this table and 'bang,' that's what killed her.
Lucifer: (Claps for her performance) Oh, bravo Miss Lopez. See, that's another reason why you shouldn't leave. Crime scenes would be so dull without you.
Ella: Thank you. But wait, there's more.
Lucifer: There always is.
Ella: I found a weird clump of hair under Beth's fingernails. (Shows a small vile with a tiny piece of hair inside) It's all gunky too.
Chloe: Is that blood?
Ella: Mm, I can't really tell yet, there's not enough of it. I got to get back to the lab.
Chloe: (Noticing something on Beth's head wound) Well, looks like there's a smear here, like somebody tried to wipe away some blood.
Ella: Good eye. I'm thinking maybe the girl who called it in?
Jophiel: Oh yeah, Beckett Wilson. She was Beth's next patient. She was very shook up when she found the body.
Lucifer: Talk about shock therapy.
Ella: Well, I mean, wiping blood off the wound is consistent with someone who cares about the victim.
Chloe: Well, Dan took Beckett to the precinct to calm her down, so I'll check in with them.
Ella: Okay, and I'll check in with the lab, see if they can rush this hair.
Chloe: Great. (Before leaving)
Jophiel: Hold on, I follow you out. I have to get ready to go to court today.
Ella: oh man, I almost forgot about that. But you are so gonna crush it.
Jophiel: Thanks, but I'll be gone for the day. So unfortunately, I won't be much help on this case. But I will check up on ya later. I really want to talk more about this whole 'Detroit thing,' Ella.
Ella: Okay, we will totally talk about it. Good luck in court.
Jophiel: Thanks, good luck with the case. (She and Chloe leave the crime scene)
Lucifer: All right. (Holding a notepad with a list of prescription pills) *To himself* I will check in with nearest pharmacy.
# I really hope Ella doesn't choose to move back to Detroit. I know she wants to be there for her family, but I love working with her. She and I are not only co-workers, we're also best friends. As the pendant on our necklaces say… We're 'Partners in Crime.' If I had to imagine working without her, it'd be so boring.
A short while later, Ella was preparing to leave the crime scene when she noticed something on a door that led to a supply room. She saw blood on the door handle and when she slowly opened it, she found an eight-year-old boy named Felix inside. He was found with blood on his hands (showing he was the one who tried to wipe the blood from Beth's head) while clenching onto his violin.
After finding Felix, Chloe reached out to his parents and informed his father he wasn't a suspect because Felix didn't fit the forensics profile. When asked if he could be interviewed in case he something, Felix's father says that Felix is shy and struggles with communication.
Part of the reason why Felix was at Beth's was because he was one of her patients. However, Chloe acknowledged that Felix was scheduled to speak with Beth earlier that morning. Felix's father believes he went back to Beth's office to collect his violin after leaving it behind.
Wanting to help Felix, Ella offers to wipe the blood off his hands and they briefly bond when Ella tells him about the horrible car accident she was in when she was his age, and within that experience, she saw lots of blood. Nevertheless, she assured Felix that he'll be fine. Grateful, Felix shyly tells her, 'I didn't see who did it.'
Afterwards, Chloe and Ella returned to the precinct. While she was working in the lab, Ella received a sudden visit from an old friend of hers. Ella knew her as Rae-Rae and they were once friends until Ella asked her to leave five years ago when Ella was still living in Detroit. Ella begged Rae-Rae to leave again; but when Chloe entered the room, she stood puzzled as to why Ella was talking to herself?
Rae-Rae is a ghost and Ella is the only person who can see her. They met after Ella's car accident. Since then, Ella has been trying to remind Rae-Rae why they agreed to never see each other again after Ella was labelled a weirdo by her friends and legitimately crazy by her psychologist.
At first, Ella felt special when she could see ghosts as a child, but she doesn't feel that way now as an adult because it's not normal. She also admits to liking who she is in Los-Angeles; the happy open-book who doesn't keep secrets. (Even though she doesn't want to tell her new friends about Rae-Rae)
As for the case, the mysterious hair with the red stain Ella found earlier was a pierce of synthetic hair. Which can be found on plush toys and carpets, and the dried 'blood' was actually ketchup, which was odd because there wasn't any food in Beth's office.
Curious, Chloe decided to go and find some clues at Beth's house. Before leaving, Ella offered to tag along after Rae-Rae claimed to know the victim and offered to help.
While over at Beth's house, Ella found a furry-wolf-suit with a ketchup stain on it's paw. Meaning Beth was wearing the suit shortly before she died. Chloe also finds a threatening voicemail from a woman who claims that she is going to be the only one with Wesley at the SCC. (Southwest Convention Centre)
Hoping to find their next suspect at that the SCC where a fury convention is being held, Chloe went undercover dressed in Beth's fury suit, while Ella watched from a surveillance van.
In the van, Rae-Rae reveals the reason she's visiting is for personal unfinished business, and Ella thinks that unfinished business has something to do with Beth, so they make a deal. Once Ella solves the case, Rae-Rae will finally 'cross over.'
Back at the convention, Chloe soon found herself being attacked by another person in a similar furry-wolf-suit. The wrestled for a moment until Chloe announced herself as LAPD. She, and the woman then stopped to unmask themselves.
After getting arrested and being brought in for questioning, the woman claimed that Wesley is actually the name of the fury suit, along with it being her fursona (original character), and claimed Beth stole it from her, just to raise conflict between them. She also mentioned that Beth had just gotten into a fight with someone at her office. Curious to know who Beth was arguing with, Ella returned to the crime scene with Rae-Rae…
Rae-Rae: So, uh, whatcha ya doin here?
Ella: Well… with this information, like this supposed fight Beth had, I often come back to the crime scene with fresh eyes. (Before searching the area, she is interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing) It's Joei. Don't say anything.
Rae-Rae: Uh, no one but you can hear me.
Ella: Right. (Answers) Hey, Joei. How's court?
Hairstyle: Let-down + Black wide-headband with peal and rhinestone floral décor
Top: White sleeveless lace top
Bottoms: Salmon high-waist above-knee-length pencil skirt + Black skinny waist
Footwear: Black peep-toe stiletto heels
Blazer: Mint-Green open-front elbow-length blazer
Jophiel: Dull. Good thing it's just for today. Anyway how's the case going? Any luck finding the killer?
Ella: Uh, not yet. But I really think we're close on a new lead. I'm back at the crime scene now.
Jophiel: Oh, good. So um… have you thought more about Detroit?
Ella: Well… I'm still thinking about it. I mean, you know how much I love my family. I mean, look at you, didn't you move out to L.A. so you could be closer to your brothers?
Jophiel: Well, yeah, I did. But that was different. I'd been traveling a lot and my family and I are pretty distant. Well… by far, I'm close to at least two of my big brothers, but still…
Rae-Rae: (Noticing a photograph of the beach) Man, you most really love going to the beach.
Ella: Shhh.
Jophiel: What?
Ella: Oh, sorry. Most've gotten cut-off there.
Jophiel: Okay. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, Ella, I will support you with whatever you decide to do. But I just wanna say, work would suck without you.
Ella: Aw, thanks Joei that means a lot.
Jophiel: Oh, sorry, I gotta go. Gotta head back into the courtroom.
Ella: Okay, good luck Joei. See ya later. (Hang-up)
# I really do want to support Ella, I do. But I also meant what I said, work would suck without her. Also… I could've sworn I heard someone taking to her in the background. It sounded like a girl and she sounded very familiar to me.
Ella: I thought I told you not to say anything.
Rae-Rae: Sorry, I couldn't help it. I was just thinking, we should uh, hit the old sandbox after we crush this case.
Ella: Uh, once we crush this case, you're crossing over, right? (Doesn't hear a response) You're still lying. You don't care about this case, do you? Well, you know what? I care, I care a lot. And I don't know why you're here Rae-Rae. Alright? I-I think it's time for you to leave.
Rae-Rae: I'm not lying. I-I am here for personal, unfinished business. It's just not about this case, it's about you.
Ella: Really?
Rae-Rae: I know I agreed to stay away, but, you know, sometimes I, uh, check up on you.
Ella: So much for boundaries.
Rae-Rae: And I heard you talking to your brother on the phone. I know you're thinking about back to Detroit.
Ella: I knew it. You're here to convince me to move back home aren't you?
Rae-Rae: No, actually, the exact opposite. Because moving back to Detroit is a terrible idea.
Ella: Okay. That explains all the talk about how great L.A. is, but why?
Rae-Rae: Because your freaking leech brother live there.
Ella: Hey! No one insults my family, except for me. And they need me.
Rae-Rae: They don't need you. They use you. And the people out here, they see how kind you are, but they don't take advantage of you. And that girl you were just talking too, she sounded like real poof of that.
Ella: The people out here, don't know everything about me, okay? They don't know about you, but my family does. They know and they still love me. And if I told Joei… I don't think she'd understand.
Rae-Rae: You know, the way I look at it is you've always looked out for everybody, but I think you deserve someone looking out for you for once.
Ella: Well, that is a very sweet thing to say. And I guess I'm 10% less irritated that you lied. So is that the real reason you're here? To tell me not to move back home?
Before she could answer, they heard someone trying to break in! Upon instinct, they hid in the cupboard (Even though Rea-Rea couldn't be seen) and they watched as a man in a black hoodie and mask came in, trying to steal something. After accidently making a sound, Ella got discovered, she and the thief briefly scuffled, before he ran away. Leaving his fingerprints on a broom.
However, even with the prints, they were too smudged to get an ID, but Ella found traces of chalk and rosin. While looking through surveillance footage, Chloe sees a car with a 'Rancho middle school' (Where both Felix and Beckett attend) bumper sticker that drove away right after Ella's fight and they connected the chalk to a teacher, and the rosin to a violin-bow, so they looked up the music teacher, Jonathan Burke.
As soon as he was brought in, he admits to breaking into Beth's office but only to retrieve a check he wrote to Beth. He was trying to bribe her to change her recommendation regarding Felix. Felix is a musical prodigy on the violin and Beth was recommending that he play the violin more and take private lessons and be home-schooled. Jonathan was just worried about getting left behind. Nevertheless, Jonathan also had an alibi.
When they mentioned Beckett, Jonathan said she was one of his students, until she turned out to be a nightmare, and he witnessed her skipping first period earlier. Leading to believe she was somehow involved with the murder. Since no one has either her or Dan throughout the entire case.
The reason why was because earlier, Dan was driving Beckett to the precinct to calm her down, until she tricked him into stopping for a slurpee, giving her the opportunity escape. While also stealing his phone. Desperate to find her, Dan asked for Lucifer's help (Despite knowing he'll make fun of him the whole day). Eventually, they were able to track her down to an amusement park.
They found her on one of the rollercoasters and when they went to get her, Lucifer apprehended Beckett but she had already tricked Dan into getting onto the ride, forcing him to relive his phobia of rollercoasters. Much to Lucifer's enjoyment as he took it upon himself to purchase custom made t-shirts and caps of Dan's hilariously funny scared face for the entire precinct. Unfortunately, Beckett managed to escape from Lucifer too and stole both his car keys and Dan's badge in the process.
After Beckett drove off in Lucifer's car, Lucifer called Maze to track Beckett, while also being humoured by the fact both Dan and Lucifer got duped by a 14-year-old girl.
They were able to track her to LUX where she was trying to get alcohol by using Dan's badge. When Dan tells her she's a murder suspect now, she finally confesses to not actually seeing anything from the murder. She just said she did because she wanted to skip class.
However, she did provide a new lead in the case. Earlier, she was seen crying at the crime scene, but her tears were actually caused by an allergic reaction to fragrance or freesia. Beckett said Beth's office reeked of perfume when she found her body.
With this new information, Chloe came into the lab to inform Ella. At first, Ella was tempted to tell Chloe the truth, but she quickly changed the topic and decided to focus on work again. With that being said, Chloe wanted to take her to interview with their next suspect. Which took place at Felix's house. When they parked outside the house…
Ella: Um, I'll catch up with you in a minute.
Chloe: Okay. (Leaves Ella alone in the car and goes to interview Felix's mother)
Ella: Just say it.
Rae-Rae: I understand why you chickened out.
Ella: It was too risky, okay? You do?
Rae-Rae: Yeah. You're afraid that people, even nice people, wouldn't accept people who talk to dead people. But…
Ella: No but. Okay? You don't know what it's like to tell someone the truth and have them look at you with pity in their eyes. Like your crazy. And if my friend here ever looked at me like that, I would break my heart.
Rae-Rae: I think your co-workers here are real friends, like Chloe…
Ella: Chloe is the nicest person ever. Okay? But she's all about things that she can see and prove. And I don't think that she'd get it. And the truth is, I don't want to give her the chance not to.
Rae-Rae: Okay, what about Joei, then? She seems cool and it looks she really cares about you. And I'm guessing she's wears the other half of that necklace your wearing.
Ella: Yeah, she does. But I can't tell her either. I know she's more open-minded but I can't risk her looking at me like I'm some sort of nut-job. She's my partner and best friend and I don't wanna loose that. (notices…) Rae-Rae. The neighbours have a construction dumpster. Holy smokes. (Exits the car and begins searching through the construction dumpster)
While Chloe was interviewing Felix's mother Sofia (who wears freesia), She claimed that Felix would never leave his violin behind, and said Beth recommended that he stay in school and try reaching out to new activities. At least that's what her husband Anthony told her.
In the construction dumpster, Ella searches though the wreckage until she finds the missing bookend/murder weapon. However, Anthony discover this and attempts to attack Ella with a baseball bat! Luckily, Chloe saves her, along with knowing that Felix never left his violin behind. He followed his father there and he has been covering for him ever since.
Anthony tried to explain how Beth's recommendation to let Felix play the violin more has left him friendless with no other interests and kept saying it wasn't normal, but Ella confront his remark by telling him that is not normal, but in fact amazing and it's what makes Felix special.
After arresting Anthony for the murder, Ella finally found the courage to tell Chloe about her ghost. How she's has been seeing her since the car wreck and described how real she felt to Ella. Despite it being hard to process, Chloe believed her. Mainly because, Chloe herself has seen 'a lot' of crazier things. Moreover, Chloe claims that Ella's ghost will never change the relationship she has with Ella.
Grateful for Chloe words, Ella now saw how right Rae-Rae was about the friends she has in L.A. Which helped Ella realize why she should stay in Los-Angeles. Much to Chloe's joy.
With her side of the deal fulfilled, Rae-Rae was preparing to leave once again. Before parting ways, Ella made another realization, if Rae-Rae truly has been looking out for her since the car accident then Ella considered Rae-Rae as her own 'Ghost Guardian Angel.' To show her gratitude, Ella allows Rae-Rae to check-up on her every once in a while. Rae-Rae then leaves saying 'Well, smell ya later Lopez.'
# After a dull day in court (Even though we won), I returned to the precinct to see mi best friend Ella. And to pick up my bag before going home.
# When I got there, Lucifer and Ella were standing in the main area and Lucifer had just unravelled this giant banner of Dan screaming on a rollercoaster. *Giggles* It was so funny!
Jophiel: Um, what is that?
Lucifer: Well, I think it speaks for itself, but unfortunately, I'm sworn to secrecy.
# Well, Lucifer maybe be sworn to secrecy, but Maze isn't. Later on, she told me 'everything' that happened with Lucifer, Dan and that girl Beckett. Oh, so many insults, in so little time. *Giggles*
Ella: Hmm, well, you do you.
Lucifer: Oh, I always do.
Ella: Smell you later, guys.
# Did Ella just say…
Lucifer: Uh, Miss Lopez? Since when do you use that particular turn of phrase, 'Smell ya later?' I've never heard you say that before.
Ella: Oh, it's just something my friend Rae-Rae says.
# Rae-Rae? Smell ya later? Not to mention, all those times Ella mentioned hearing voices, seeing ghosts and that phone-call earlier… There is only one person, Luci and I know who could cause all that.
Lucifer and Jophiel went up to penthouse to confront Ella's ghost friend Rae-Rea, or as Lucifer and Jophiel know her as…
Lucifer: Well, hello Azrael.
# That's right. Ella's ghost is actually our little sister, 'Azrael the Angel of Death.'
Azrael: What, too cool to call me Rae-Rae anymore?
Lucifer: Well, endearing nicknames are reserved for siblings who didn't abandon me for millennia, so…
Azrael: *Sighs* I didn't abandon you. I've been busy. I mean, you try being be the 'Angel of Death.' A lot of people die Lu.
Lucifer: Oh, you're telling me.
# As the 'Angel of Death,' Rea-Rea was not only allowed to come down to earth, but she was also allowed to visit Hell. She could've popped down anytime to see Luci. But she didn't and Luci's still mad about it.
Azrael: Okay, I get it, you're pissed. I should have reached out to you when Dad kicked your butt down to Hell. And I was going to, but you know, a day turned into a week, which turned to, you know, a thousand years, and then it just seemed wired.
Lucifer: Well, congratulations. Weirdness adverted.
Azrael: Uh, you weren't there, Lu. You don't know. When Dad kicked you out, the family was rocked, me especially.
Lucifer: Oh, really, is that true, Joei?
Jophiel: Why do you think I ran-away?
Azrael: Exactly. And not only that, I lost my favourite big brother, you dope. And when you ran-away Jo, I lost my favourite sister too.
# Back in the Silver-City, the three of us were the closest. Rae-Rae and I were one of the younger kids so we all had to look out for each other. But whenever one of our older siblings came in to start picking on us, Luci would always step in and defend us. Amenadiel may be Dad's favourite son, but Luci was always our favourite big brother.
Azrael: Come on, Lu. Remember when we used to prank Amenadiel? Please tell me he still has that hilarious angry face.
Lucifer: Still angry. Still hilarious.
Azrael: Mostly, I just missed you guys listening to me, drone on about whatever was on my mind. I know it may have not meant that much to you, Lu, but it mattered a lot to me. Look, I-I'm sorry. I-I made a mistake. But you started a freaking rebellion, Lucifer. Nobody's perfect.
Lucifer: I suppose your right about that.
Jophiel: Well, despite how sweet and touching that is Rae-Rae, why are you here now? And how does Ella Lopez know about you?
Azrael: Oh, that.
Lucifer: Oh, don't worry, we're not Dad. We no qualms with you interacting with humans. Well, come on.
Azrael: Well, Ella was in a gnarly car wreck when she was young. And I showed up to, you know, do my whole 'Angel of Death' thing. But…
Jophiel: But what, false alarm.
Azrael: It happens. This time, I don't know, I-I didn't want to leave. I mean, you know Ella. There's just something about her. She's just so positive. She makes you feel like…
Lucifer: Good about yourself.
Azrael: Yeah! Exactly! I ever talk to dead humans. I mean, their are so morose. Anyway, whenever I was in the neighbourhood, I'd stop by to see how she was doing and we became friends. But apparently, it's weird when people talk to invisible angels. So I told her I was a ghost, which didn't help. So I sent her to be out here with you.
Lucifer: You did what?
Jophiel: You sent Ella out here to be with Lucifer?
Azrael: Yes.
Lucifer: First, Dad puts the Detective here, and you're trying manipulate me with Miss Lopez. Why does everyone think I need help meeting woman?!
Azrael: Relax. I-I didn't do it for you. I did for her. Well, both of you, I guess. See, since I couldn't really be with her, and I couldn't be with you, I thought at least two of my favourite people could, be together. And Joei, when you showed up, that made it an extra bonus. So now three of my favourite people are together.
Lucifer: And that's the only reason that you're here?
Azrael: Pretty much.
# Before Luci could respond, Rae-Rae was already gone. I still can't believe she's the reason why Ella came to Los-Angeles. But you know what? I'm glad. I'm glad she sent Ella to be here. Because Ella's not only an amazing friend to have and work with… she's also become like a sister to both me and Luci.
After Azrael left, Jophiel and Lucifer returned to the precinct to greet their friend Ella. While also appraising her decision to stay in L.A. (Which was the best choice)
# One thing led to another, Luci and I found ourselves sitting in the lab, listening to Ella as she explains how she compares DNA on a block of regular wood against synthetic wood. It was actually quite interesting.
While the three of them were in the lab, Azrael/Rae-Rae proudly watched, as three of her favourite people came together just like she wanted.
You know, if you really think about it, the humans in this show have their very own personal guardian Angel/Devil/Demon to look out for one of each of them.
For example:
Lucifer is Chloe's guardian Devil. Dan has Amenadiel. Linda has Maze. Trixie has both Maze and Lucifer. And Ella… she has Azrael, but my stories, she also has Jophiel.
Hope you've enjoyed this chapter because there's only one left and along with the last episode, I'll be making a special announcement.
