Living Arrangements

"We don't live together."

Donna's voice whispers through the stillness, pulling Harvey back from the realms of sleep, and he chuckles softly, blissfully, tugging her closer beneath the sheets. "I figured that was a given, now we're married," he murmurs, tangling his leg with hers.

She presses her palm against his chest, deftly keeping an inch of space between them as a smirk rides her lips. He'd asked her to go to Seattle and marry him... but she's still inclined to point out one of the obvious flaws with their unconventional approach to making up for lost time. "You didn't ask."

A chuckle hums in the back of his throat and he fights through the fog threatening to overwhelm him, wanting to stay present for a few moments longer. "Having second thoughts?"

"No." She shakes her head, lifting her hand to tease the stubble dusting his jaw. "We'd have to return all of Louis' gifts."

He curves his mouth against her palm, amusement vibrating his vocal cords. "Donna?"

"Hmm…"

He feels her breath carry across the pillow they're sharing, and he tucks her closer. "Move in with me?"

She slides her arm further up, suppressing the grin on her face—even though his eyes are closed, and he won't register how close she is to giving in. "Can I think about it?"

There's pause, and she knows he really is exhausted, because his words slur in a content, gravelly way, that makes her heart wear the smile her lips have been holding since he got down on one knee.

"How many receipts would we have to go through?"

"Too many," she assures him, fanning her fingers through his hair and dragging them down the nape of his neck. He's purring a second later, not quite a snore but close enough, and she stays awake too long, knowing she'll regret it in the morning. When she wakes up to fresh, witty banter that she can't match until there's coffee running through her veins.

But she'll love him even more, because it doesn't matter that they haven't voiced all the technicalities—forever is a given, and has been, since before either of them realized it.
