Chapter 25.
(Harry POV)
We were still in the Tardis as she was shaking hard.
"But how do you travel in time, what makes it go," Martha said.
"Oh, take the fun and the mystery out of everything, It just does," Dad said. "Hold on tight,"
Then We landed and Martha nearly fell on her butt, But I managed to catch her.
"You okay," I said.
"Yeah," Martha said. "Blimey, D'you have to pass a test to fly this thing,"
"Yes and I failed, Now make the most of it, I promised you one trip and one trip only," Dad said.
"What Dad come on," I said.
"Outside this door, Brave new world," Dad said.
"Where are we?" Martha said.
"Take a look," Dad said. "After you,"
Then We headed out.
"Oh you're Kidding me," Martha said. "You're so kidding me," As I came behind her and pulled her into me. "Oh my god, we did it, We travelled in time,"
"So when are we?" I said.
"Mind out," Someone shouted up about and I pulled Martha back and something dropped where we were standing before.
"Somewhere before the invention of the Toilet," Dad said. "Sorry about that,"
"I've seen worse, I've worked late night-shift in A&E," Martha said. "But are we safe, I mean, Can we move around and stuff,"
"Yes, Course we can," I said.
"Why'd you ask?" Dad said.
"In those films you step on a butterfly you change the future of the human race," Martha said.
"Tell you what then, Don't step on any butterflies, What have butterflies ever done to you," Dad said.
As we started to walk again.
"What if I dunno what if I kill my grandfather?" Martha said.
"Are you planning to?" Dad said.
"No," Martha said.
"Well then," Dad said.
"This is London," Martha said.
"Think so Round about 1599," Dad said.
"Oh but hold on Am I all right?" Martha said. "I'm not going to get carted off as a slave, Am I?"
"Why?" Dad said.
"I'm not exactly white, in case you haven't noticed?" Martha said.
"I'm not even human, walk about like you own the place, works for me, Besides you'd be surprised," Dad said.
"Well, I say this. Anyone who tries has to go through me," I said. As Martha hugged into my side.
"Elizabethan England, It's not so different from your time, Look over there, They've got recycling, Water cooler moment, and Global warming," Dad said. "Oh yes and entertainment, popular entertainment for the masses if I'm right, We're just down the river by Southwark, Right next to," As Dad took off and we ran after him.
"No, Is that?" I said.
"Yes, The Globe theatre, Brand new just opened, Though stickily speaking it's not a globe, It's a tetradecagon, 14 sides containing the man himself," Dad said.
"Whoa you don't mean?" Martha said.
"Shakespeare," I said.
"Oh yes," Dad said.
"Martha, Would you accompany me to the theatre?" I said.
"Harry, Yes," Martha said. As she hugged into me.
"When you get home, you can tell everyone you've seen Shakespeare," Dad said.
"Then She could get sectioned," I said.
Then We got there.
Not to much longer it was over. Everyone was cheering and applauding also.
"That's amazing, Just amazing, It's worth putting up with the smell," Martha said. "And those are men dressed up as women yeah,"
"London Never changes," Dad said.
"Where's Shakespeare? I want to see Shakespeare. Author, Author," Martha said. "Do people shut that do they shout Author?"
"Well, they do now," Dad said.
"He's a bit different to his portraits," Martha said.
"Should I be worried," I said.
"No, Never," Martha said. as she hugged into me.
"Genius, he's a genius, the genius the most human human there's ever been," Dad said. "And now we're gonna hear him speak, always he chooses the best words new beautiful brilliant words,"
"Shut your big fat mouths," Shakespeare said.
"Oh well," Dad said.
"You should never meet your heroes," Martha said.
"I tried telling him that ages ago, Doesn't listen," I said.
"You got excellent taste, I'll give you that, oh that's a wig, Bit I know what you're all saying love's labours lost, that's a funny ending isn't it It just stops, Will the boys get the girls. Well don't get your hose in a tangle you'll find out soon," Shakespeare said.
"When," Everyone shouted.
"All in good time, you don't rush a genius, When? Tomorrow night, The premiere of my brand now play, A sequel no less. And I call it, Love's labours won," Shakespeare said.
"What is it," Martha said.
"It's the lost play, It doesn't exist only in rumours," I said.
"It's mentioned in lists of his plays, but it never ever turns up and no one knows why," Dad said.
"Have you got a mini disc or something, We can tape it we can flog it sell it when we get home make a mint," Martha said.
"No," Dad said.
"That would be bad," Martha said.
"Yeah, Yeah," I said.
"But how come it disappeared in the first place," Martha said.
"Well, I was just gonna give you a quick trip in the Tardis," Dad said.
"Dad," I said.
"But I suppose we could stay a bit longer," Dad said.
Then we got clear of the crowds then we headed to the Elephant, Where, Shakespeare was staying.
"Hello, excuse me, Not interrupting am I, Mr. Shakespeare isn't it," Dad said.
"Oh no, no, no, no who let you in?" Shakespeare said. "No autographs, you can't be sketched with me, Don't ask where I get my ideas, thanks for the interest, Now be a good boy and shove, Hey nonny, nonny,"
"Oi," I said.
"Sorry, Sit down here next to me. you 2 get sewing on them costumes, off you go," Shakespeare said.
"Come on lads, I think our William's found his new muse," Someone said.
"Sweet lady," Shakespeare said.
"Oi," I said.
"Such unusual clothes, so Fitted," Shakespeare said.
"Un, Verily, forsooth, egads," Martha said.
"No, Don't do that, just no," I said.
"I'm Sir Doctor of Tardis, and these are my companions, Martha Jones and Harry Tyler," Dad said.
"Interesting, that bit of paper it's blank," Shakespeare said.
"Oh that's very clever," Dad said. "That proves it, absolute genius,"
"No It says right there, Sir Doctor, Martha Jones, Harry Tyler it says so," Martha said.
"And I say it's blank," Shakespeare said.
"Psychic paper shows what he wants to to show you," I said.
"Psychic?" Shakespeare said. "Never heard that before and words are my Trade, who are you? More to the point who's your delicious Blackamoor lady,"
"OI, you really want hit," I said.
"What did you say?" Martha said.
"Whoops, isn't that a word we use nowadays," Shakespeare said. "An Ethiop Girl, A swarth, A queen of Afric?"
"Can't believe I'm hearing this," Martha said.
"It's political correctness gone mad, Em, Martha's from a far-off land Freedonia," Dad said.
"Excuse me, Hold hard a moment," Someone else came in. "This is abominable behaviour, a new play, with no warning, I demand to see a script Mr Shakespeare, As Master of Revels, Every new script must be registered at my office and examined by me, before it can be performed,"
"Tomorrow first thing, I'll sent it round," Shakespeare said.
"I don't work to your schedule, you work to mine, The Script now," He said.
"Wait, your schedule, So you don't you don't want to piss off for some food," I said.
"Why you," He said.
"Try it, You down on the ground before you even lay a hand on me," I said.
"I Can't," Shakespeare said.
"Then Tomorrow's performance is cancelled," He said.
"It's all go around here," Martha said.
"I am returning to my office for a banning order, If it's the last thing I do Love's labours Won will never be played," He said.
"Would you just piss off already, Suck of shit," I said Which made him piss off. "Man, I don't know about you, he's one asshole,"
"Well then mystery solved, That's Love labours Won over and done with, Though it might be something more, you know, More mysterious?" Martha said.
"Be careful what you wish for," I said.
As we heard a woman's screams.
"Come on," Dad said.
Then we ran out and it was the Guy from early he was drowning.
"It's that Lynley broke," Martha said.
"What's wrong with him?" Dad said. "Leave it to me, I'm a Doctor,"
"So am I, Near enough," Martha said.
Then then he collapses.
"Get the heat going, My. Lynley, come on, Can you hear me" Martha said.
As she went to breath into him water coming out.
"What the hell is that?" Martha said.
"I've never seen a death like it, His lungs are full of water, he drowned," Dad said.
"What like a blow to the heart, An Invisible blow," I said.
"Good Mistress, this poor fellow has died from a sudden imbalance of the humours, A natural if unfortunate demise, call a constable have him taken away," Dad said.
"Yes Sir," She said.
"And why are you telling them that?" Martha said.
"They're still in the Dark Ages, If he told them the truth they'll think it was witchcraft," I said.
"Ok what was it, then?" Martha said.
"Witchcraft, But I never seen anything like this," I said.
Then we went back up.
"I've got you rooms, Sir Doctor, You are just across the landing, Miss Jones and Mr Tyler are just next to you," She said.
"Thank you," I said.
"Poor Lynley, So many strangle events, Not least of all, this land of Freedonia, Where a woman can be a doctor?" Shakespeare said.
"Where a woman can do what she likes," Martha said.
"And you sir, Doctor, how can a man so young have eyes so old," Shakespeare said.
"I do a lot of reading," Dad said.
"A trite reply, yeah, that's what I do," Shakespeare said. "And you look at him like you're surprised he exists, yet you look like you seen stuff before,"
"I think we should say goodnight," Martha said.
"Catch you in the morning," I said.
Then we went to the room and into it.
"Why did he do that?" Martha said.
"Just does," I said.
"It's not exactly 5 star is it? I haven't even got a toothbrush," Martha said.
"Oh, Here, Spearmint," I said. "Pick it up back at a planet which could do beautiful things with Flavours,"
"So who's going where, I mean there's only one bed," Martha said.
"Just think of it like we're back home," I said.
"But your home is that box," Martha said.
"Not for the pass 2 weeks it wasn't, and Still going to convince him to let you come with us," I said.
"So magic and stuff, that's a surprise, its all a bit Harry," Martha said.
"Don't Just don't," I said.
"What why?" Martha said.
Then I pulled out the wand I had on me.
"No what?" Martha said.
"First 12 years of my life I thought that was my name, Then I found out everything about Dad and Mum, So just sticking with Tyler thought," I said.
"So it's real witches magic all that it's real," Martha said.
"Not like this, But whatever that was looks like witchcraft but it isn't. I've never seen a spell like that," I said. "Come on,"
Then Martha got on and then we cuddled into each other.
"What about your old man," Martha said.
"Doesn't matter, Come here," I said as She blow up the candle and we fell asleep with Martha in my arms. "Night Martha,"
"Night, Harry," Martha said.
After a bit we were asleep.
Then all of a sudden there was a scream which woke us up.
"What was that?" Martha said.
"No idea, Come on," I said.
As we got up and ran towards Shakespeare and saw Dad there checking the woman. Then We went over to the window seeing something fly off.
"Her heart give out," Dad said.
"Dad," I said.
"What did you see," Dad said.
"A witch," I said. "Flying,"
XXX
It was morning time and we were in with Shakespeare.
"Oh, sweet Dolly Bailey, She sat out three bouts of the Plague in this place, We all ran like rats," Shakespeare said. "But what could have scared her so? She had such Enormous spirit,"
"Rage, rage against the dying of the light," Dad said.
"I might use that," Shakespeare said.
"You can't, It's someone else's," Dad said.
"But the thing is, Lynley drowned on dry land, Dolly Died of Fright, and they were both connected to you," Martha said.
"You're accusing me?" Shakespeare said.
"No, But I saw a witch Big as you like, flying cackling away," I said.
"And you've written about witches," Martha said.
"I have, When was that?" Shakespeare said.
"Not quite yet," Dad said.
"Peter Streete spoke of Witches," Shakespeare said.
"Who's Peter Streete?" I said.
"Our builder," Shakespeare said. "He sketched the plans to the Globe,"
"The Architect," I said.
"Hold on, The architect, The Globe Come on," Dad said.
Then we went there.
"The columns there, right, and 14 sides, I've always wondered but I've never asked, Will, Why 14 sides?" Dad said.
"It was the shape Peter Streete thought best, that's all, he said it carried the sound well," Will said.
"But 14? Why does that ring a bell?" Dad said. "14,"
"There's 14 lines in a sonnet," Martha said.
"So there is, Good point, Words, and shapes, following the same design. 14 lines, 14 sides, 14 facets, oh, my head, Tetradecagon, Think Words, letters, numbers, lines," Dad said.
"But this is just a theatre," Will said.
"Yes, but a theatre's magic, isn't it, You should know, Stand on this stage, Say the right words, with the right emphasis, at the right time, oh, you can make men weep, Or cry with joy, Change them, You can chance people's minds, just with words in this place, and if you exaggerate that," Dad said.
"It's like your police box. Small wooden box, but with all that power inside," Martha said.
"Oh, Oh, Martha Jones I like you," Dad said. "Tell you what though, Peter would know, can I talk to him,"
"You won't get an answer, a month after finishing this place lost his mind," Will said.
"Why, What happened?" I said.
"He started raving about witches, hearing voices babbling, His mind was addled," Will said.
"Where is he now," Dad said.
"Bedlam," Will said.
"What's Bedlam?" I said.
"Bethlem Hospital, the madhouse," Will said.
"We gotta go there, right now, Come on," Dad said.
"I'm coming with you, I want to witness this at first hand," Will said.
Then we headed there and got into the place.
Then we got there.
"So you call this a hospital? where Patients are whipped to entertain the gentry, and you put your friend in here?" Martha said.
"Oh, it's all so different in Freedonia," Will said.
"But your clever, D'you honestly think this place does any good," Martha said.
"I've been mind, I've lost my mind, The fear of this place set me right again, It serves it's purpose," Will said.
"Mad in what way?" Martha said.
"You lost your son," I said.
"My only boy, The Black Death took him, I wasn't even there," Will said.
"I didn't know, I'm sorry," Martha said.
"It made me question everything, The futility of this fleeting existence, to be or not to be, Ooh, That's quite good," Will said.
"You should write it down," I said.
"Maybe not, bit pretentious," Will said.
"This way, My lord," The Guy came back.
Then we went on.
"They can be dangerous, Don't know their own strength," He said.
"It helps if you don't whip them, Now Get out," Dad said. "Peter, Peter Streete?"
"He's the same as he was, You'll get nothing out of him," Will said.
"Peter," Dad said. "Peter, I'm the Doctor, Go into the past, One year ago, Let your mind go back, To when everything was fine and shining, Everything that happened in this year since, happened to somebody else, It was just a story, A winter's tale, Let go, That's it, Just let go, Tell me the story Peter, Tell me about the witches,"
That's what he did.
Then Something showed up
"Who would die first?" It said. "Mmm?
"Well, if your looking for volunteers," Dad said.
"No Don't," I said.
"Doctor can you stop her," Will said.
"No mortal has power over me," It said.
"Oh, but there's a power in words, If I can find the right one, If I can just know you," Dad said.
"None on Earth has knowledge of us," It said.
"Then it's a good thing I'm here, Now think, Humanoid, female, uses shapes and words to channel energy, Ah 14, That's it 14, The 14 stars of the Rexel Planetary Configuration Creature I name you Carrionite," Dad said. Then she disappeared.
"What did you do," I said.
"I named her, The power of a name, That's Old magic," Dad said.
"But it only works once," I said.
"Yeah," Dad said.
"It's a different sort of science, You chose mathematics, The right numbers the right equation, can split the atom, Carrionite use words," Dad said.
"Use them for what?" Will said.
"The end of the world," Dad said.
"Great, Let's go," I said opening the gate and we headed out and went back to the the Elephant.
"The Carrionites, Disappeared way back at the dawn of the universe, Nobody was sure if they were real or legend," Dad said.
"I'm going for real," Will said.
"But what do they want?" Martha said.
"A new empire on Earth, A world of Bones and Blood and witchcraft," Dad said.
"But how?" I said.
"I'm looking at the man with the words," Dad said.
"Me? But I've done nothing," Will said.
"Hold on, what were you doing last night, when that Carrionite was in the room?" Martha said.
"Finishing the play," Will said.
"What happens on the last page," I said.
"The Boys get the girls, they have a bit of a dance, it's all as funny and thought provoking as usual," Will said. "Except those last few lines, Funny thing is I don't actually remember writing them,"
"That's it," Dad said. "They used you, They gave you the final words like a spell, Like a code,"
"Love's Labour's Won, It's a weapon," I said. "The right words, spoken in the right place with the shape of the Globe as what, An energy converter, The play's the thing!"
"And yes you can have that," Dad said.
XXX
"Allhallows Street, there it is, Martha, Harry. We'll track them down, Will, Get to the Globe," Dad said.
"Whatever you do Stop that play," I said.
"I'll do it, All these years, I've been the cleverest man around, Next to you, I know nothing," Will said.
"Oh don't complain," Martha said.
"I'm not, it's marvellous, Good luck, Doctor," Will said.
"Good Luck Shakespeare! Once more unto the Breach," I said.
"I like that, Wait a minute, That's one of mine," Will said.
"Oh, Shut up and shift," I said.
"Allhallows Street, But which house," Dad said.
"Thing is though am I missing something here?" Martha said. "The world didn't end in 1599 It just don't, Look at me I'm living proof,"
"Back to the Future thing, He goes back and changes the future," I said.
"And he starts fading away, oh my god, am I gonna fade?" Martha said.
"You, Me, and the entire future of the Human race, It ends, right now," I said.
"In 1599, if we don't stop it," Dad said.
"So which house," I said.
Then a door opened.
"Make that witch house," Dad said.
"Can we not do the same thing to get them off Earth," Martha said.
"No, It only works once," I said.
Then we went in.
"I take it we're expected?" Dad said.
"Oh, I think Death has been waiting for you a very long time," She said.
Then Knocked Martha out.
Then She turned towards dad.
"Why would a man hide his title in such despair?" She said. "oh but look, There's still one word with a power that aches,"
"The naming won't work on me," Dad said.
"But your heart grows cold the north wind blows and carries down, the distant Rose," She said.
Oh, Big mistake, Cos that name keeps me fighting, The Carrionites vanished, where did you go?" Dad said.
As I got hold of Martha trying to wake her up.
"The Eternals found the right word to banish us into Deep Darkness," She said.
"Then How did you escape?" Dad said.
"New Words, New and glittering From a mind like no other," She said.
"Shakespeare," Dad said.
"His son Perished," She said. "The grief of a genius grief without measure, madness enough to allow us entrance,"
"How many of you?" Dad said.
"Just the three, But the play tonight shall restore the rest," She said. "Then the human race will be purged, as pestilence, and from this worlds we will lead the universe back into the old ways of blood and magic,"
"Mmm, busy schedule, but first, you've got to get past me," Dad said.
"oh, that should be a pleasure, Considering my enemy has such a handsome shape," She said.
"Now that's one form of magic that's definitely not going to work on me," Dad said.
"Oh we'll see," She said.
"What was that for? what did you do?" Dad said.
" A souvenir," She said.
"Well give it back," Dad said. "Oh now that's cheating,"
"Behold Doctor, Men to Carrionites, are nothing but puppets," She said.
"Now, You might call that magic, I'd call that a DNA Replication Module," Dad said.
"Mm," Martha said. Moaning.
"Hey, you," I said.
"Hey," Martha said.
Then I got her up.
"What use is your science now?" She said.
Then Dad just flew as she flew off.
"Dad," I said.
"Hold on mister, 2 hearts," Martha said.
"You're making a habit of this," Dad said.
"You ass," I said hitting him.
"Sorry couldn't resist," Dad said. Then got up. "Ow,"
"What's wrong," I said.
"I've only got one heart working, How do you people cope?" Dad said. "I gotta get the other one started, Hit me, hit me on the chest," As Martha did, "Argh, Other side, Argh, On the back, on the back, Left a bit, Argh," As he got up. "Lovely, There we go, Ba Da Boom, Well what are you standing there for? Come on, The Globe,"
Then we went there and Found Will on a chair. But it was already starting.
"Stop the play," I said. "Yes I said. Stop the play what happened?"
"I hit my head," Will said.
"Yeah, don't rub it, You'll go bald, I think that's my cue," Dad said. Then Left.
As Martha and I got Will up and follow him.
"Come on Will, History needs you," Dad said.
"But what can I do," Will said.
"Reverse it," I said.
"How am I supposed to do that?" Will said.
"The shape of the Globe gives words power, you're the wordsmith, the one, true genius, the only man clever enough to do it," Dad said.
"What words, I have none," Will said.
"You're William Shakespeare," Dad said.
"But these Carrionite phrases, they need such precision," Will said.
"Trust yourself," I said. "With you the words just come like Magic, The right sound, the right shape, the right rhythm, words that last forever, That's what you do, Will you choose perfect words, do it,"
"Improvise," Dad said.
"Close up this din of hateful dire decay, Decomposition of your witches plot you thieve my brains consider me your toy my doting Doctor tells me I am not, Foul Carrionites spectres cease your show between the points," Will said
"76139 o," Dad said.
" O, and banished like a tinker's cuss I say to thee," Will said.
"Expelliamus," Martha said.
"Expelliamus," Will said. Then it started working and stopped it once and for all.
Then Love Labour's Won went into the Vortex to, Gone for ever.
XXX
Will was trying to Kiss Martha.
"Oi, Do I have to knock you on your head," I said.
Then Dad came.
"Good Props store, back there," Dad said. "Not sure about this though, Reminds me of a Sycorax,"
"Sycorax? Nice word, I'll have that off you as well," Will said.
"You had to bring them up didn't you," I said.
"Why?" Martha said.
"Remember that ship on Christmas day," I said and Martha nodded. "Well, we stopped them,"
"I should be on 10% How's your head?" Dad said.
"Still aching," Will said.
"Here, I got you this Neck Brace, Wear that for a few days, till it's better although, you might want to keep it, suits you," Dad said.
"What about the play?" Martha said.
"Gone," I said.
"I looked all over, every single copy of Love's Labours Won, went up in the sky," Dad said.
"My lost masterpiece," Will said.
"You could write it up again," Martha said.
"No, Better not, Will, There's still power in those words maybe it'd best stay forgotten," I said.
"Oh, but I've got new ideas," Will said. "Perhaps it's time I wrote about Fathers and sons, In memory of my boy, My precious Hamnet,"
"Hamnet?" Martha said.
"That's him," Will said.
"Ham net," Martha said.
"What's wrong with that?" Will said.
"Anyway," Dad said. "Time we were off, I've got a nice attic in the Tardis, where this lot can scream for all eternity, I've gotta take Martha and Harry back to Freedonia," Dad said.
"You mean travel on through Time and space?" Will said.
"You what?" Dad said.
"You're from another world, Like the Carrionites, Martha's from the future," Will said.
"That's incredible, You are incredible," Dad said.
"We're alike in many ways, Doctor," Will said.
Then Queen Elizabeth showed up and Called Dad an enemy and then we had to run for the Tardis and then got in. Then we got out of there.
That's all for this chapter.
More to follow.
Stay tuned and safe.
Love Y'all
PEACE!
