Hey everyone! I'm back with another chapter! Thanks for reading and enjoy the story! Let me know what you think in the comments!
The two days after I helped Ms. Zoë with the paperwork were a whirlwind of crazy.
It turned out the paperwork was for the people taking part in the research she was going to perform on two newly caught titans. It wasn't often that she could catch titans to experiment on and Trost has left Ms. Zoë with a unique opportunity that she took full advantage of.
For the most part, the first 24 hours with them after we made up the information sheets for the participants, were dedicated to confirming everything I had told her about the titans.
The next 24 hours was about running new experiments and for some reason I had to be present for the whole shit show.
At one point, I had been awake for almost 30 straight hours, Moblit had been awake even longer, and the two of us crashed in Ms. Zoë office when she sent us to look for something. I wasn't even sure what we were looking for. I just laid on the ground and fell asleep. Moblit was the same way.
Levi found us about an hour later and I thought he was going to kick our butts. Instead, he told me to come and see him when the experiments were over. He knew that wouldn't be for a while, because Ms. Zoë wanted to do some tests with me after dark to see how well my form worked in the dark, how long I could hold it, how many times I could transform in a row, etc.
It was almost 6 am when I shuffled up to Levi's office door, too tired to completely pick my feet up from the ground for each step.
"Levi?" I opened the door and didn't see him in his chair, so I decided to crash on his couch until he came back, but then I saw him sleeping on his couch. He looked like he was dreaming about something bad based on the expression on his face.
I sat on the floor next to the couch and held his hand. I pulled off my Scout's cloak that I had taken from him once again and laid it over him, brushing his hair off his face. He had broken into a cold and clammy sweat. I started to worry and wonder if I should get a nurse or someone to check on him. If he found out though, he would probably kill me. I decided to leave the decision of whether or not to get help for when he woke up. If he was out of it, I would bring him to the infirmary by force if need be.
I held his hand in mine, my head leaning up against the edge of the couch and drifted off into a dark, dreamless sleep. I was completely exhausted.
"Rise and shine, kid!" I felt someone shake my shoulder and nearly knocked the coffee table over jumping out of their grasp.
"Eld?!" I looked up at the blond man and let out a sigh of relief, "Dammit! You scared the crap out of me!"
"Sorry, sorry," he chuckled, "I didn't mean to."
"So why did you wake me up?" I pouted like a grumpy child.
"I told him to." Levi looked down at me. I had been so focused on Eld that I hadn't noticed Levi on my other side. I had his left hand in my tight grasp and his right held a pen as he worked through some paperwork.
I released his hand and jumped up to my feet.
"Why didn't you just wake me up?!" I yelled at him and smack his arm.
"Hey!" he smacked me back, "I'm busy. I would have let you keep holding my hand hostage, but I'm getting to a point where I need both my hands to finish this in a timely fashion. Besides, I already tried to wake you up, but you were so exhausted thanks to four eyes that you didn't even budge when I shook you an hour ago."
"Oh... Sorry." I sat down next to him and leaned my head on the arm of the couch, "Can you do that at your desk so I can go back to sleep?"
"Seriously?" he huffed, "Can't you just go sleep in your bed?"
"Too tired." I shrugged, "I barely had enough energy to sit down here."
"Seemed like you had plenty of energy to jump up and hit me..." he grumbled.
"Screw off and let me sleep," I muttered and pulled my feet, which still had my boots on them, up onto the couch and pushed him with my feet so I could stretch out and nap. I could practically feel his frustration radiating off of him.
He didn't say anything, just stood up, so I assumed he was moving himself over to his desk. I was wrong. He grabbed my ankle and pulled me off the couch and onto the floor.
"No shoes on my furniture, brat." he frowned.
"You're so mean!" I huffed and stood up, plopping down on the chair across from the couch and putting my feet up on the coffee table, this time without the boots.
"Feet off the table." he ordered.
"I thought the rule was no shoes on the furniture."
"Yeah, and no feet on my table either!" he knocked my legs down and I heard chuckling from the direction of the doorway. I saw Eld and Petra sneaking glances through the cracked open door as they tried not to scream out laughing.
"You're so mean!" I pulled my knees up to my chest and curled up on the chair.
"Is that the only thing you can think to say? Maybe you should add to your list of insults."
"Says you, Mr. 'F* this and F*ing that!'" I shot back, "Oh and how could I forget, 'shitty this and shitty that' and your favorite 8 year old bully taunt 'four eyes.'"
"Brat-"
"What? Come at me!" I goaded him on and he just stood from his seat, grabbed me by the back of my shirt collar and waist band of my pants, carrying me out into the hallway, up the stairs and throwing me onto my bed as he kicked open my door.
"Go to sleep!" he yelled, "Damn you are such a fucking pain when you're tired!"
And from that day forward, Levi never let Ms. Zoë do experiments or make me work for more than 14 hours at a time.
Mission accomplished.
