Chapter 24 – The Final Lesson
Bathroom, Chavez Family (6:00pm)
Andy gives him the pill. Tobey swallows it with the aid of water. He looks at himself in the mirror and smiles.
"You know how long it's been? Since we had a meal like this?" said Tobey.
Andy took his pills and drinks it. "What Nathan's?"
"No. Not that Nathan's bullshit. Like, the porkchops and all." Tobey gazes at Andy, as he drinks his bottle of water. "Can we stay?"
"Tobs it's six. We have to keep moving. We're only an hour away."
"We haven't slept in days!"
Andy wipes his nose. "They probably won't let us, anyway."
"They seem like a nice family."
"What happens then. Hmm?"
"Stop thinking like that man. Think about the whole team. We're outta gas!"
Andy peaks out of the door. The Spider-Gang were resting at the dining table, talking to each other, with low energy.
"If they say no. We gotta moving. Okay?" Andy said.
The water stops running. Andy closes the sink and opens it again. Nothing. Again. Nothing.
"Goddammit. Not again!" Xavier yells from the kitchen.

Kitchen, Chavez's House (Now)
Xavier leans over the sink with Maria patting his shoulders. Andy and Tobey sprints out and finds the gang standing with question marks over their head.
"Those assholes have been screwing with our water for months. The rich boys call themselves the Chappies." Xavier turns to the gang. "Thanks for everything, but I got work to do."
Maria grabs his shoulder. "You crazy? They got stacks of shots on their side."
"So do we." Xavier opens a cabinet full of tools and a 44. magnum pistol. He loads it . "Sick of em. So sick of em!"
"X, ven aqui!" Maria pulls Xavier into a ear to ear conversation.
Andy turns and points to the door. Tobey throws his arms. Andy shrugs and points to Xavier and Maria.
"Let's just go." Said Peter.
The Gang packs their stuff and turn to the door.
"If you all want to stay and rest." Xavier said. "You may, but in the basement, there's a pull-out couch bed and enough air mattresses for your familia. And if any adults wanna help me, they can."
Andy glances at the gang, giving desperation. He sighs. "Thanks X. Um I'll help. Lemme just make sure these guys are in bed and, get some things in car."

Basement, Chavez's House (A few minutes later)
The basement. The walls were concrete, cobwebbed, and supported by wooden beams. Pretty much fits our style. The gang enters. Andy finds the couch and a TV at the end of the room. he opens the pull-out.
"Anyone wanna sleep here?"
Tobey raises his hand. He falls on the bed.
Meanwhile, Tom comes in with a squirming bag.
"Ow! Watch your feet!"
"How about your big nose!"
Tom opens the bag. Peni and Porker tumbles out of the bag. Porker jumps from the floor.
"What the hell was that?! It felt like I was on sand for a minute!" He said. "Wait. We're sleeping in a BASE-ment!"
"Can't stop yourself from punning huh?" said Noir.
"I'll rip ya in the morning."
Meanwhile, Andy grabs the TV remote. "There's TV if ya want."
"Nah I'm good." Tobey says.
He sets it on the night table. "Aight, I'ma go" He turns.
"Wait Andy."
He rolls his eyes and turns.
"Look around." He said.
Andy glances around carelessly. "I don't get it."
"There are people like us. They know the past cannot be changed, but the future can be."
Andy kneels next to him. How many conversation have we had about this. "I'm not same as I was. I'm fine for who I am. And by the way. this place, this One River facility. The place closed two years ago. There is no safehouse. Only death."
Andy walks.
"I don't believe you." Tobey said.
Andy raises his eyes. "Ya don't believe me?"
"Cindy thinks it's real. Believe it. Do it for her."
Andy glances at Cindy, resting on the floor. "Get some rest."
Andy walks to the stairs. He stops to looks at the gang, now sleeping. He finds Gwen sleeping on a single air mattress next to Miles. Their hands intertwined each other. Andy eyes watered. He takes out a picture of the blond-haired woman, with bright aqua eyes, and cute buck teeth. He puts the picture side by side with Gwen. They matched.
"You ready?" Xavier said from the top of the stairs.
"Yeah." He follows him out to the cornfield.
