PROMPT N°25: STUDY
THE CAT'S OUT OF THE BAG.
Chat Noir jumped from the roof on which he was perched and landed loosely on a large terrace which overhangs the thirteenth floor of a luxury Parisian building.
He slid the door to the large bay window that led inward and entered the large apartment he shared with his girlfriend.
He and Marinette had been dating for about three years: since they had mutually decided that the time had come to reveal their identities. They wanted to try to give their love a chance and they refused to enter into a relationship where secrets could just put up a wall between them.
That evening, Chat Noir was returning from a solo patrol. Indeed, Marinette having very important entrance exams for the Université Sorbonne de Paris the following week, he'd refused that she goes patrol so that she could study. He wanted her to focus only on her future as a Designer and for that, she had to avoid any distractions.
When he entered the room where his girlfriend was, he raised a questioning eyebrow. There she was standing perched at the window and in her ladybug suit.
"What are you doing?" asked Chat Noir, half annoyed, half dubious.
"Huh, you weren't supposed to come home so quickly…" she mumbled. "I was going outside for a little run on the rooftops…at the opposite of your patrol route…"
"Marinette… Did you at least study tonight?"
"I finished sewing your suit jacket and I drew several sketches for your father's new collection," she replied.
"And you put your nose in your books, didn't you?" he inquired, insisting.
Marinette sighed ruefully.
"No… Fine, I give up… Tikki, spots-off," she breathed.
"It's for your future, Bugaboo… Sorry for being killjoy, but it's important."
"Chaton… you really don't want to give me a break tonight? Please?" Marinette implored.
The feline shook his head. "Don't do the kitten eyes, Mari… It's MY thing."
But the young woman did nothing and continued to use her charms against her boyfriend.
"Please stop that look! Go get your bag and open your books to study!"
Marinette sighed again. "I thought you were the funniest of the two of us…" she mumbled between her teeth, her voice barely audible.
But the feline's hearing was fine enough to hear the young woman protesting very clearly.
"I heard you!" he clarified seriously. "And I'll always be the funniest of the two of us", he added with a smirk.
"I didn't know you were so bossy," she said, pulling her school bag out of a closet.
Chat Noir followed her discreetly and silently, listening to her complaints.
"Who are you and what did you do with my funny and carefree Chaton ?! Give me back my Cha-..."
Her hand plunged into her bag in search of her book on the history of fashion but she suddenly stopped her movement. She pulled out a red velvet case that was tucked between her pencil case and her notebook and quickly turned to her boyfriend. She gasped in amazement and tears came to her eyes instantly.
Chat Noir was standing right in front of her, he had one knee on the ground and a tender smile on his lips.
"I had a feeling you weren't going to study tonight and that it would be the perfect day to carry out my plan," he said, his eyes shining with love.
"You're crazy…" she whispered, her voice filled with emotion.
"Yes, crazy about you! And then, it wasn't you who was asking for your Chaton to come back? You know I'm an eternal romantic Marinette,…" he answered tenderly.
"Yes," she answered sincerely.
"Still impatient… I haven't proposed anything yet," he chuckled.
"And you're still so silly…" she answered, stepping forward and ringing the bell around his neck. "I wanted to say that I know that you are an eternal romantic. This is one of the reasons why I love you and why I will not hesitate to say yes to you."
"Impatient," he chuckled, coughing, deliberately masking his words, which made the young woman burst out laughing.
Then Chat Noir cleared his throat and regained his seriousness before gently grabbing his girlfriend's hand.
"Marinette, my Lady, my love… Your laughter is in my ears the most beautiful
melody that is and I want more than anything in the world, to be the man who can play the song of your happiness until my last breath. I want to wake up every morning by your side, illuminated by your wonderful smile. I want to fall asleep every night rocked by your laughter."
He gently took the case Marinette was holding and opened it, turning the box to face her and revealing a sumptuous rose gold solitaire that rested on a black velvet cushion.
"My ladybug, my lucky charm, my sweet and clumsy Marinette, will you marry me and make this man the luckiest and happy cat in the world?"
"Yes! It's still a big yes, Adrien, mon Chaton…" she breathed, throwing herself in his arms.
Without any warning, she pressed her lips to those of the young man and sealed their promise in a kiss overflowing with love and joy.
Not leaving the lips of his fiancée, the feline sought to catch her hand and slowly passed the solitaire around her ring finger. Then he gently broke the kiss, pulling aside to rest his forehead against that of his future wife.
"You and me against the world," he whispered, his heart swelling with love.
"Always and forever," she replied tenderly.
"Now go study!" Chat Noir ordered quietly.
Marinette pouted and slowly pulled away from him. "Killjoy!"
"Sir, my future killjoy husband, please," he chuckled.
He saw her rolling her eyes before a soft smile stretched her lips.
Decidedly, he was sure of it: he could never do without her irresistible little facial expressions. She was the Lady of his dreams and the woman of his life.
