After arriving at the Parker house, Peter and Gwen had both changed back into their civilian clothes. Peter was in a darkroom, making the photos he'd taken of the festival, while Gwen was in his bedroom, examining the metal claw boomerang under a microscope.
"Hmm?" she said, looking at it carefully.
Peter came out of the darkroom with the pictures he'd made, then put them down on his bed, before turning to Gwen.
"Find anything?" he asked.
"I think so." Gwen said.
She moved the boomerang slightly, before spotting the word 'Oscorp' on it.
"Whoever this Green Goblin is, he seems to be working for Oscorp." she said, turning to Peter.
"Meaning he might be the guy who killed Mr. Osborn's assistant." Peter deduced. "Which also means, his equipment's stuff he probably stole."
"My thoughts exactly." Gwen agreed.
"A murderer and saboteur working at Oscorp." Peter sighed. "Harry would be devastated if he found out his Dad was involved in this, even if it was unintentionally."
"I know." Gwen sighed. "Well, we've got something, but not enough to find out who this Goblin is. So what do we do?"
"We have to get to the bottom of this, and there's only one way." Peter said.
"An unannounced visit to Oscorp?" Gwen assumed.
"Bingo." Peter confirmed. "I say we do it tonight. The quicker we get to the bottom of this, the better."
"Okay." Gwen said. "But, since we don't know how long we're gonna be in there, what do we tell my Dad and your Aunt May?"
"Hmm?" Peter muttered, seeing her point.
He thought for a good minute, before coming up with an answer.
"We'll tell them we're having a sleepover. Since we're a couple, they'll understand, as long as we..." he said.
"I get it, don't get too psychical, since we're only 16." Gwen understood. "I guess one could take the bed, the other the couch or the floor."
"Yeah." Peter said. "And get changed in different rooms."
"So, which house do we do it at?" Gwen asked.
"Mine." Peter said. "You go home, get your stuff, then we'll make a plan when you get back."
"Okay. See ya." Gwen said.
She kissed Peter's left cheek, then walked out of his room, before she closed the door.
"Guess I better tell Aunt May about this." Peter sighed. "I just hope she understands."
He opened the door again, then walked downstairs, and saw Aunt May walking towards the kitchen.
"Aunt May, can I talk to you for a minute?" Peter asked.
Aunt May stopped and turned to him, as he came towards him.
"Sure, Peter." she said. "What is it?"
"Um, well... Aunt May, I was wonder, can Gwen spend the night here?" Peter asked. "We've got something to do together over the Summer, and well-"
"Oh, I see." Aunt May said. "Well, if her Dad says so, I guess it's okay. I was gonna start dinner, so thanks for telling me, since I need to make enough for three."
She turned around and walked into the kitchen, as Peter sighed.
"Well, that was better than expected." he thought.
Once getting to her house, Gwen opened the front door and went inside. She then walked into the living room, and saw her Dad sitting at the table while on the phone.
"Oh, but what about Gwen?" he asked. "I can't just leave her alone. I know she's old enough, but after what happened today, I'd rather someone was with her."
"Uh, Dad..." Gwen said.
Capt. Stacy turned around and looked at Gwen.
"I'll call you back." he said.
He put the phone down, then got up and walked towards Gwen.
"Is something wrong?" Gwen asked.
"Yeah." her Father sighed. "I'm gonna be needed at the station all night, but I'm not comfortable about leaving you alone after what happened at the festival. That green guy pretty much ruined everything for everyone. So, what is it, Gwen?"
"Well, Dad, I was actually gonna ask if I could sleep over at Peter's tonight." Gwen said. "I mean, at least that way, you won't have to worry, 'cause I'll be with him and his Aunt May."
"Oh..." her Father said, looking suspicious.
"Dad, relax, Peter and I won't get psychical." Gwen assured. "We've both agreed we're too young for that. He even said he'd take the couch if his Aunt doesn't approve."
"Well...That does make me feel better, knowing you won't be alone." Capt. Stacy said. "Okay. Go ahead and get your stuff, Gwenie."
"Oh, thanks, Dad." Gwen said, hugging him tight.
"Well, go pack and then I'll drop you off on the way to the station." Capt. Stacy said.
"Okay, Dad." Gwen smiled, pulling back.
She turned around and walked up her stairs to pack for the night.
About 10 minutes later, she came back down the stairs with a backpack over her shoulder, which had all that she needed, including a sleeping bag.
"You all set?" her Father asked.
"Sure am." Gwen assured.
They both walked out of the house, then Capt. Stacy locked the door, before they both walked towards his car. They both then got inside, then Capt. Stacy drove it off down the street, and then off towards the Parker House.
After her Father had dropped her off at the Parker house, and after saying goodbye, Gwen went up to Peter's bedroom, and saw him sitting on the bed as she opened the door.
"Well?" Peter asked, getting up.
"My Dad's okay with it." Gwen assured. "Especially since he has to be at the station all night due to Green Goblin's attack."
"Good. My Aunt May's okay with it too." Peter said. "So all we have to do now, is wait till its dark and she falls asleep..."
"Then we begin our investigation?" Gwen finished.
"Exactly." Peter confirmed.
Gwen smiled and put her bag down, before she noticed pictures lying on Peter's desk.
"You develop those while I was away?" she asked.
"Yeah. Kinda figured I should do something while waiting." Peter reasoned.
Gwen walked towards the pictures, then picked them up and looked at them.
"These are pretty good." she commented, turning around. "Although, I can imagine what Jameson's gonna think."
"I know. He's gonna think us and the Goblin all attacked the festival together." Peter said.
The bedroom door opened, then Aunt May came in, getting them both to turn to her.
"Oh, I see you're already here, Gwen." she said. "I thought I heard the door open."
"Hi, Mrs. Parker." Gwen said. "Thanks for having me over tonight."
"Oh, it's no problem." Aunt May assured. "Now, about the sleeping arrangements?"
"Oh, it's sorted." Gwen assured. "I brought over a sleeping bag, so I can take the floor while Pete gets his bed."
"Okay..." Aunt May said. "But you better not get-"
"Aunt May, we know." Peter assured. "We're still not ready for that."
"Well, I'm glad." Aunt May smiled. "Now come on, dinner's almost ready."
She turned around and walked off, before Peter and Gwen both followed, the latter closing the door behind her.
"You brought a sleeping bag?" Peter whispered.
"Yep." Gwen nodded. "Figured I'd better just in case."
"Good thinking." Peter whispered, kissing her cheek, making her blush.
Later, after having dinner, and when night fell over the city, Peter and Gwen were both in Peter's bedroom, discussing their plan, when they looked at the clock, and saw it was 10pm.
"I'll check to see Aunt May's asleep." Peter said. "She told me she was going to bed earlier today as she has to get up early in the morning."
"What for?" Gwen asked, curiously.
"She hasn't told me." Peter answered honestly. "I'll be back in a minute."
He opened the door sneaked out of his room, then opened his Aunt's quietly, and saw she was asleep in her bed.
"Good." he thought.
He sneaked back to his own room, then approached Gwen.
"She's asleep." he whispered.
"Okay." Gwen whispered. "One of us will have to change outside."
Peter nodded, then reached under his bed for his suit, then left the room.
Once they'd both changed into their costumes, then sneaked out of the Parker House through Peter's window, then Gwen closed it, before they both turned and then swung off.
Meanwhile, in Osborn Manor, Mr. Osborn was in his bedroom pacing around, Harry having already gone to bed.
"Okay, what happened?" Norman said. "What's going on with me?"
"Oh, you don't remember?" hissed the cold voice.
Norman gasped and turned to a mirror, seeing the evil smirk on the reflection.
"Remember what?" he asked.
"What we did today to save your company and job." the reflection said.
"The attack at the festival?" Norman muttered. "That was us?"
"Bingo." the reflection said. "With the rest of the board dead, they can't fire you."
Norman backed away slightly, horrified.
"The attack would've gone better if it weren't for those two pests." the reflection sneered. "We tried to convince them to join us, and they turned it down. If only they'd understand that we're superior to everyone else."
"After all they've done for this city I doubt they will." Norman said. "Spider-Man even saved me once months ago."
"Oh..." the reflection said. "I guess he and his partner care about protecting the city, instead of owning it."
"What...what are suggesting?" Norman asked, backing away.
"Simple. Find them both tomorrow, and kill them once and for all." the reflection snarled.
"But... Are you sure that's wise?" Norman asked. "I mean, how are we suppose to find them?"
"Simple, Osborn!" the reflection barked. "By attacking the city and luring them out, as we did today!"
Norman gulped.
After over half-an-hour of swinging, Spider-Man and Ghost Spider arrived at Oscorp, landing near an outside vent on the upper half of the building.
"I never thought we'd have to be breaking and entering to get information about someone." Ghost Spider said.
"Neither did I, but we don't have a choice right now." Spider-Man said, pulling the vent back. "You ready?"
"As I'll ever be." Ghost Spider sighed.
She climbed into the vent, then Spider-Man followed her before putting the vent cover back over the vent. They both crawled down the vent slowly, then stopped near another cover, then both peeked out of it, and saw a hallway on the other side. The hallway was mostly darkened, the only light coming from small lamps on either wall, keeping the ceiling mostly dark, but a guard was patrolling the hallway.
"Well, we made it this far." Ghost Spider whispered.
"Yeah. But if any of those guards raise an alarm, we're out of luck." Spider-Man said. "We can't let them see us."
"So, I guess we stick to the ceiling, and move from dark spot to dark spot?" Ghost Spider assumed.
"Yeah." Spider-Man said.
He pulled the vent cover open, as it was a retractable type, then climbed out of the vent and into the hallway. Ghost Spider then followed him, then closed the vent cover back over the vent quietly.
"Phew, that was close." she whispered.
Spider-Man nodded, before they both jumped and stuck to the ceiling, just as the guard turned and walked towards them.
"What was that?" he wondered, hearing them jump.
He ran down the hallway, then stopped and looked around, but saw nothing, as the shadows kept both Spiders hidden from him.
"Must've imagined it." the guard sighed, as he turned around.
He walked back down the hallway, as both Spiders turned to each other.
"Phew, that was close." Ghost Spider sighed.
"Yeah. We have to be very quiet while doing this." Spider-Man whispered. "Come on."
They both crawled along the ceiling towards the other side of the hallway, then stopped near a doorway. They both stared at the guard, who turned around and began pacing back down the hallway.
"Wait...wait..." Spider-Man whispered, before the guard was a few feet away. "Now."
Both he and Ghost Spider jumped down from the ceiling, then he opened the door, and they both ran inside, and then it closed behind them. They entered a small room, which had a door on the left, with a camera right over it on its right wall. They could also see another room behind an automatic door, which had six elevators on the other side, three on each wall.
They moved to their right and stared at the door while hiding in the shadows, as they were out of sight from the camera.
"One at a time?" Ghost Spider suggested quietly.
"Yeah." Spider-Man nodded. "Ladies first."
"Thanks." Ghost Spider said.
They both watched as the camera moved around, then when it looked at the right side of the room, Ghost Spider slipped past it, opened the door and left the room. She closed the door but left a crack open to see her partner, who looked up as the camera moved back to the left side of the room.
"Gotta time it right." Spider-Man thought.
As the camera moved back to the right side of the room, he slipped past it, then Ghost Spider opened the door for him, then he slipped inside before she closed the door. They both turned and saw a U-shaped stairway leading up towards a door, with a camera right in the middle of it.
"This one's easy." Ghost Spider muttered, pointing at the ceiling.
Spider-Man nodded, then they both shot a web up to it, and zip-lined up towards the ceiling, sticking to it. They then crawled towards the door, then jumped down near it, then Spider-Man opened it up. They both then peeked inside, and saw they were in a room full of computers, like the one at the Bugle outside Mr. Jameson's office. Up ahead of them, was a camera, and they also saw a guard patrolling around the desks in the middle of the room.
"So, where do we go from here?" Ghost Spider asked, as they pulled back and closed the door.
"Well, Harry told me a bit about the security measures." Spider-Man said. "There should be a blast door nearby that can only be opened by a special code."
"You think we might find it on the computers around here?" Ghost Spider asked.
"Yeah. But Harry said only top-people like his Father have the whole code." Spider-Man explained. "So it's gonna be in pieces."
"Well, guess we better get started." Ghost Spider said.
"We'll stick to the ceiling until we get near a computer and start searching." Spider-Man said. "You take the left, I'll take the right."
"Gotcha." Ghost Spider understood.
She opened the door, then they both saw the camera turning away, then they both entered the room, Spider-Man closing the door behind them, then they both jumped up and stuck to the ceiling. They both then saw eight computers in the room, four on each side, then crawled towards the ones closet to them.
"I am never saying 'yes' to another 24-hour shift." the guard yawned, as he paced around near the further computers.
Both Spiders jumped down from the ceiling, then approached their computers, but saw they were completely shut down. They both turned to the ones nearest them, but saw they were shut down too, and there was no time to turn them on with the guard nearby.
They both jumped to the ceiling, then crawled along it towards the other computers, as the guard moved and walked towards the other side of the room. They both jumped down to the floor, then checked the computers, but Spider-Man saw both on his side were shut down, but Ghost Spider noticed one of hers was still on.
"Huh?" she muttered.
She quickly and quietly worked on it, then a piece of the pass code came on it, but then she turned it off quickly after memorizing it.
Spider-Man dived over to her side of the room and approached her.
"You find something?" he whispered.
"Yep." Ghost Spider replied. "A fifth of the pass code, which means there's four more pieces."
"Okay." Spider-Man said.
They both jumped up towards the ceiling just as the guard turned around and began pacing back down the room. They both crawled along the ceiling towards some stairs, then they both turned left and kept on crawling along the ceiling.
"Oh, God, my back is killing me!" a guard complained, pacing around in a hallway above the stairs.
Both Spiders kept crawling along, when Ghost Spider spotted a doorway right beneath them.
"Think there's some behind there?" she asked quietly.
"Perhaps." Spider-Man said. "But there's also the area up ahead."
Ghost Spider looked and saw a computer up ahead in a room similar to the one they'd just been in.
"I see." she said. "I guess we better split up."
"Agreed." Spider-Man nodded. "You take the door, I'll take the room. Keep an eye on that guard though."
Ghost Spider nodded before he crawled away and approached the room ahead of them.
Once the guard was pacing away from her, she jumped down from the ceiling, then opened the door, and saw another computer room. She looked around carefully, seeing a camera on either side of the room over another door, and a guard patrolling in front of her.
"Man, this is the last time I'm covering for Jamie." he yawned.
Ghost Spider entered the room, closing the door behind her quietly, then jumped up and stuck to the ceiling. She looked around, and saw one computer on her left turned on, but saw nothing more.
"If there's another in this room, it must be on the other side." she thought, crawling along the ceiling.
She approached the computer, jumped down from the ceiling, then quickly worked on the computer, then another part of the pass code came on it.
"That's two." she thought, before turning the computer off.
She jumped up onto the ceiling, then crawled along it in the shadows, as the guard began to walk towards her side of the room. She looked around slightly, and saw the camera across from her was just out of range, then she crawled along to the other side of the room.
Once there, she looked around, then saw out of the four computers, only one was on, but it was the closet to the camera near the other door.
"Oh, just great." she thought. "I'll have to be really careful to avoid detection."
She crawled along the ceiling towards the computer, then waited as the camera moved around slowly. Once it was turned away from the computer, she jumped down from the ceiling, then worked on it quickly, getting another piece of the pass code.
"Well, that's three pieces." she thought, turning the computer off. "Hope Pete's had more luck finding the other two."
She jumped up towards the ceiling just as the guard turned around.
"What the?" he muttered.
He ran to where she'd been, then looked around, but saw nothing weird expect the computer being off.
"Must've gone off by itself." he said, before he turned around. "Wouldn't be the first time."
He walked off and began pacing around again, approaching the other side of the room.
"Phew, that was close." Ghost Spider thought.
She turned to the camera as it turned away, but then noticed it was too risky to try.
"I'll have to go out the way I came in." she realized.
She crawled along the ceiling in the shadows, as the guard turned around and walked off, before she jumped down and landed near the door. She opened it up, then dashed inside, and then closed it behind her.
"Better wait for Peter to get back and see if he's got the last pieces." she thought, before jumping onto the ceiling.
Spider-Man meanwhile looked around the room he was in from the ceiling, seeing eight computers, being patrolled by one guard, with a camera on the other end of the room.
"Okay, check the ones closet, then move to the others." he thought.
He crawled along the ceiling, then spotted two computers turned on, one on his left close to him, the other on his right but near the door near the camera. He crawled towards the one closet to him, then saw the guard pacing around near the camera.
"Do this one first, then the other." Spider-Man thought.
He dropped down from the ceiling, then worked on it quickly, and got a piece of the pass code.
"Good. That's another piece down." he thought, before jumping up towards the ceiling.
He began crawling towards the other end of the room, as the guard began walking towards the side he'd been on.
"Must be my lucky day." Spider-Man thought.
"Okay, shift's almost over." the guard said. "Just another hour till you can go home."
Spider-Man crawled along the ceiling towards the on computer, then dropped down from the ceiling, then quickly worked on it, before another piece of the pass code came out.
"Three down, two to go." he thought, turning the computer off.
He jumped up and stuck to the ceiling, then crawled back the way he came towards the stairs. Once near them, he turned left and began crawling above a hallway, before he spotted Ghost Spider, then crawled towards her.
"I found two pieces?" he whispered.
"Same here." Ghost Spider said quietly. "So we should be able to get the blast door open."
"Right. Follow me." Spider-Man said, motioning with his hand.
He turned right and crawled off, then Ghost Spider followed him. They both then spotted the guard patrolling the hallway heading right towards them, as their Spider-Senses tingled. They both stopped, as the guard walked right past them, not seeing them, before he sneezed.
"Aw." he said. "I can't wait to get home."
He kept on walking down the hallway.
"Come on." Spider-Man said quietly.
Ghost Spider nodded before they both crawled on along the ceiling.
"You sure you know where the blast door is?" Ghost Spider asked quietly.
"I'm positive." Spider-Man assured. "Harry told me where. If I remember his words, it should be just up ahead."
Both Spiders kept crawling along the ceiling, then stopped when a guard kept pacing out of a hallway on their right. They both stopped as the guard whistled and turned to his right and paced down the hallway. They both crawled along the ceiling again, then stopped near the hallway on their right, but saw the blast door instead of a hallway, with a camera right over it on the right side of the room.
"Stick to the left side." Spider-Man whispered.
"Right." Ghost Spider understood.
They both crawled along the ceiling, then along the left side of the small hallway, then stopped near the edge. They stared at the camera as it moved around, then they both dived down from the ceiling, before the door opened.
"Huh?" Ghost Spider muttered.
Spider-Man dived inside, then she followed before it closed behind them.
"I thought the door needed a code?" Ghost Spider hissed.
"So did I..." Spider-Man said, before he spotted a panel near another blast door, with electricity running over it. "..unless it's for that one."
Ghost Spider turned around and stared at the door.
"Oh..." she said. "Well, come on."
They both approached the panel, then entered the five pieces of the pass code.
"Let's see if we can figure out the order." Spider-Man said.
They looked at the pieces carefully, thinking about which pieces to go where.
"I think that's the first piece." Ghost Spider said, pointing at the second piece she'd found. "It's end is slightly different, and it's not all lines."
"Neither's the first you found." Spider-Man said. "But the end on its right is the different bit."
"So that must be the end piece." Ghost Spider reasoned.
"Agreed." Spider-Man said.
He put the second piece she'd found in first, then stared at the remaining three with her, knowing what piece was last.
"I think that's next, since it's the same color as the first piece." Spider-Man said, pointing at the second piece he'd found.
"Agreed." Ghost Spider said.
He put that piece in beside the first one, then they stared at the others.
"Hmm? The third piece is a bit tricky." he said.
"I won't argue there." Ghost Spider agreed. "Either the third piece I found or the second you found can go in there, based on their design."
They both looked at the pieces carefully, debating on which one was the third part.
"It's the one you found." Spider-Man said. "The one I found goes up slightly at the top, so it must be nearer the end."
Ghost Spider looked closely at the pieces, and saw he was right.
"Okay." she said. "Put the rest of the pieces in."
Spider-Man put the third piece in, followed by the fourth, and then the fifth.
"Cross your fingers." he said.
They both crossed their fingers, before the electricity around the door vanished, and then it opened up.
"Phew." Ghost Spider sighed. "That was close."
"Yeah." Spider-Man agreed. "Come on, we've still got work to do."
They both ran through the door and down the hallway on the other side, before Ghost Spider stopped near a vent shaft.
"Think it's better to use the vents until we get to the labs, now we're past that blast door?" she asked.
Spider-Man turned to her, and then stared at the vent.
"Yeah." he agreed.
He bent down and pulled the cover off the vent, as Ghost Spider raised her mask up over her mouth.
"Okay, let's..." Spider-Man said, before Ghost Spider raised his mask up over his mouth. "Huh?"
Ghost Spider kissed him on the lips, then pulled back.
"For luck, 'cause I have a feeling it's gonna get worse in the labs." she said, lowering her mask.
"Thanks." Spider-Man said, lowering hers. "Ladies, first."
"Thanks." Ghost Spider said, before she got into the vent.
She began crawling through it, then Spider got in, put the vent cover back over it, then turned and followed after her on his belly, as it wasn't big enough for them to stand up in. It was however, just wide enough to get beside each other if they needed to.
To be continued...
