Chapter 25
Elphaba studied her reflection in the mirror. Over the past couple of weeks, she noticed that her towel was getting just the slightest bit smaller for her. She couldn't wrap it around as many times as she used to.
She turned to her side and mentally measured the baby bump. She was bigger than she expected, but she supposed that shouldn't be too much or a surprise since she had two babies growing inside her. Her face, arms, and legs were thinner; she hadn't stopped vomiting. But it would all be worth it. Only a little over five months to go. Who knew, maybe it would be a little less.
"Hey."
She met his eyes in the mirror. "Hey, Yero."
More recently, she was getting home earlier than him since her boss understood how sick she got after lunch time. Her days consisted of catering whatever occasion she got assigned in the morning, then going home as soon as it ended instead of going to another event for the afternoon. For right now, she was fine with the 10 minute walk, but she had a feeling it wouldn't be long before she had to ask Galinda or Avaric for a ride again.
"You good there?" Fiyero stepped into the bathroom and massaged her shoulders.
"Sort of," she half-moaned. "Oz, can you do the same thing to my feet later?"
He chuckled. "Of course," he kissed her shoulder. "Why 'sort of'?"
"Well, I was just thinking that pregnancies I've seen before are usually smaller than I am at four months. Hell, some still hadn't even started to show. I get that I'm carrying two babies and being bigger is expected. But if I'm already like this at four months, holy mother of Oz, I'm going to be huge by the time they're ready to come out of here!"
Fiyero chuckled again and nipped slightly at her shoulder, earning another moan from her. "You're going to be just fine."
"Mmm. I don't want to know how you know this if you do, but can we make love while I'm pregnant?"
"We already have," he smirked.
"I mean," she playfully scowled, "when my stomach gets big enough that the babies are more developed and I can't see my feet."
Fiyero placed his hands on her stomach and Elphaba placed hers over his. "Well, it may not feel the same, sometimes you may not even want to, but yes. It's perfectly safe unless the doctor tells you not to. The babies are protected by the strong wall of your uterus, they won't even realize what's going on and if they do, it's a small rocking motion that may even lull them to sleep. And I can't physically reach them anyways. Though as your stomach expands, we may have to try different positions. Lying on your back is going to be really uncomfortable," he rubbed her arms up and down.
"Wow," she turned to look at him, "I'm actually surprised at how well you explained that."
"Believe it or not-"
"Ah! I told you I didn't want to know how you know," she covered her ears. It wasn't even that she was jealous, but she really didn't want to hear about her husband's previous sex life with his ex-wife.
"Sh," he took her hands off her ears and she glared at him softly for shushing her.
"I was going to say that believe it or not, I asked your doctor over the phone when you started to show."
Her face showed her surprise. "Really?"
He nodded. "Really."
Did that mean…"So, never with a pregnant woman?"
Fiyero laughed. "No," he confirmed.
"Are you serious?"
"Why are you so surprised?"
"Because you've told me that your relationship with your ex was mostly physical. I find it hard to believe that you two seriously didn't have sex even while she was pregnant with Zianna."
"The first half, she didn't want to. The second half, I didn't want to. She was getting on my nerves."
Elphaba laughed and Fiyero turned her around so they were face to face and pressed up against each other.
"We're going to figure this out together. And my guess is, we'll have lots of fun doing so," he whispered.
She blushed. He leaned in slowly to capture her lips with his. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he gripped her waist. He deepened the kiss. His hands trailed up her side. He had just barely managed to slip her towel down slightly, then Zianna walked into the bathroom.
"Daddy? Mama?"
They pulled away. Elphaba covered herself back up and Fiyero cleared his throat.
"Hey Zia," he rasped.
"Hi, baby," Elphaba said in her baby voice.
Zianna played with the scarf she had claimed from Elphaba placing it in her hair. "What doing?"
"Nothing!" Elphaba cut off any subtle innuendo Fiyero was about to say. The last thing she needed was for Zianna to start repeating whatever Fiyero was thinking about saying. "Here, how about we let daddy take a cold," she emphasized 'cold' with a bit of breath in her voice, "shower."
Fiyero pecked her lips hard.
"And you can help me pick out some clothes for the doctor's visit. Ok?"
"Ok!" Zianna pulled on Elphaba's hand and dragged her out of the bathroom.
The green girl shot Fiyero a smile over her shoulder and he winked at her before closing the bathroom door.
"Everything is going along nicely, both babies are growing well and perfectly healthy," the nurse organized Elphaba's file.
Elphaba sighed in relief.
"Thank you," Fiyero said, grabbing Elphaba's hand.
"And if you're interested, I can actually tell you what you're having."
"Really?" Elphaba perked. The nurse nodded, smiling at her excitement.
"Do you want to know?" Fiyero asked.
"Do you?"
Her husband shrugged. "I don't mind either way. I'm asking you," he bounced Zianna on his knee.
Elphaba bit her lip and thought about it. She exhaled. "I really want to know," she caressed her belly.
Fiyero's hands joined hers. He smiled at her. "Then let's find out."
She beamed at him and turned back to the nurse. "We're interested."
"Alright," she opened the file and scanned for what she was looking for, "here we go," she smiled at the couple. "Congratulations. You're having a boy and a girl."
Elphaba gasped and pressed her hands to her face. "Oh my - Oz."
Fiyero joined her on the bed with Zianna and pulled Elphaba in for a soft kiss.
"I'll be back with your checkout papers in just a moment," the nurse said and closed the door behind her.
Elphaba pulled Fiyero in for another kiss. "Yero, can you believe it? A boy and a girl!"
He kissed her cheek over and over. Oz, he was so happy. "I love you."
"I love you, too. Zia, did you hear that?" Elphaba pulled Zianna into her lap.
The little girl put her hands on Elphaba's stomach. "Babies?"
"Yes, Zia." Fiyero kissed the top of her head. "One is a boy, the other is a girl, just like you. You're gonna have a brother and sister."
"Bwo-bwo-bwoter. S-s-"
"Sister," Elphaba said slowly.
"Sistor."
Elpha hugged Zianna close and Fiyero kissed her again. She couldn't be happier.
Two Months Later
Fiyero dropped his jacket and keys on the floor when he saw Elphaba crying on the couch. Even if she did tend to have some emotional outbursts, they were never like this. She was crying her heart out.
"Fae," he rushed over to her. "What's wrong?"
She shook her head.
"Love, please talk to me," he pulled her into his arms. Fiyero hated seeing Elphaba cry.
"Not now," she croaked.
"Elph-"
"I will. I promise I will," she snuggled closer to him and hugged him tighter. "Just not right now. I wanna relax. Please?"
His heart broke. He wiped away her tears and kissed her hair. "Of course," he drew soothing circles on her back.
Eventually, even Zianna joined them on the couch after coming out of her room because she was hungry. She was also confused at seeing her mama crying. Fiyero reassured her that everything was ok, even though he didn't believe it himself, and soothed Zianna into a nap. He thought he'd soothed Elphaba to sleep too, but then she moved her head from his chest to his shoulder.
"My sister called."
"Nessarose?" Fiyero asked, shocked.
Elphaba nodded.
"What happened?"
Any guesses? R&R :)
