Hello~ Here's the rest of the confession. The biggest reason I split it into two, was because I had no clue of how I wanted it to go. I quite like it this way and I hope you do too!
Disclaimer: It's… it's just not happening guys. Haikyuu shall never be mine.
Well… Ain't this awkward?
Chihiro Pov
You know that feeling? The one where you feel like you've got it all together? Life's good, in every aspect you could think of. That pleasant and comfortable feeling you get when you know what to do to make your dreams come true? Yeah, I haven't felt that way for a hot second.
I had all these plans, ideas I thought would lead me straight to victory. Well, victory with a slight detour. I'd planned to leisurely stroll across the finish line, newly claimed boyfriend in hand. Instead, I was standing right in front of aforementioned finish line, looking for ways to turn back. This was not how I wanted this to go, in the middle of an empty street, directly after a party where Iwaizumi-san had seen me stuff my face with cake.
I laughed nervously at the boy, who was looking at me with a look of surprise and awe on his face. Kind of like the surprised Pikachu meme, which would have been hilarious in any setting other than this one. I swiveled on my feet, planning to run away from this situation as fast as possible. Running from my problems had always worked pretty well. However, this time my problem was a buff guy that runs half marathons during summer break just for funsies.
Deciding that running was not an option, I just finished my spin until I once again faced Iwaizumi-san.
'Did you just… try to run away from me?'
Would lying work? I considered my options and possible outcomes before coming to the conclusion that, no, I could not lie my way out of this one. Not telling the truth would just lead to an even more uncomfortable situation and also would not get rid of my accidental confession.
'I considered it, yes. Then I realized I could never outrun you, so here we are.'
'You're awfully calm about this.'
'Oh I'm freaking out on the inside, don't you even worry about it.' I said with another nervous laugh.
'So, uhh, about what you said.' The ace said. At the very least the boy looked about as hesitant to talk about this as me. I looked up at him and saw a pretty blush spread across his cheeks along with the cutest smile. The image made me rethink my decisions up to this point.
Why was I going about this in such a roundabout way? I was already pretty sure our feeling were mutual. Why hadn't I just grown a pair and confessed? It would have saved us both a lot of time and awkward situations. I mean, I'd had my motives for not telling him, but they seemed unimportant now. I'd gotten this far. Was I really going to throw away this opportunity because the way it happened wasn't like my fantasies? You better believe I wasn't, so I steeled my nerves and looked the guy of my dreams in the eye.
'Uh, yeah,' I said, twirling a strand of hair around my index finger, 'you might have noticed already, I haven't really been hiding it lately. But I really,' My face lit up in embarrassment and I looked at the ground, 'really like you.'
Iwaizumi-san stayed quiet after that. Quiet enough that I could audibly hear my heart sink. Had I been reading everything wrong? Had his feelings sizzled out? Then I shook away those thoughts. I'd made my choice and confessed. There was nothing I could change now. I called upon my courage from earlier and stole a glance at the boy in front of me. The sight blew away all my doubts.
That cute smile had made way for a big, joyous grin, 'Really?' He asked.
I gave him a wide smile, leaving the fear of a bad outcome behind me, 'Yeah.'
'Well, you could probably tell already, but I really like you too.' The blushing ace said while scratching the back of his head, 'So, would you please go out with me?'
I felt like I was floating as I answered, 'I'd love that!'
'So you really didn't notice? At all?' I asked incredulously. After my less than perfect confession, we'd relocated to a nicer spot to talk. We were sitting on a bench next to a patch of grass where three kids were playing a game of tag. I'd just finished explaining my whole process of dropping hints to him.
My newly acquired boyfriend laughed, 'Well, I knew something was up, especially the past week or so. You asked Hanamaki and Matsukawa for help, didn't you?'
'I did. What gave it away?'
'I didn't know it at the time, but looking back on it, it all makes sense now. They were.. uh.. something. The use of word play was very innovative. Was that your idea?'
I groaned at the memory of the odd couple throwing pieces of paper at Iwaizumi-san, 'No, that was all them. Should've known they wouldn't be any help.'
We lapsed into a comfortable silence until the ace spoke up again.
'So, I know I don't have any right to ask you this question, since I didn't do anything myself, but why didn't you just ask me out? This whole process you went through seems like a lot of work. Besides,' He looked at me with a cute, confused frown, 'from what I can tell, you already seemed pretty sure I would like you back.'
I blushed in embarrassment, 'Okay, so hear me out.'
He smiled at urged me to continue.
'When I figured out we could maybe, possibly, feel the same way about each other, I started watching a lot of romantic movies and read these sappy manga. I've never done this whole confessing thing before and I wanted to do it somewhat right. Those confessions were usually done in like a romantic setting, with the guy asking the girl out. I thought it looked really cute, so I kind of wanted to create a situation like that.' I finished lamely, feeling a bit stupid.
'Obviously that didn't work out, because I ended up accidentally confessing to you during a sweltering hot day on the anniversary of two of our best friends. While we were both sweaty.'
'I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I'm a big fan of the sweaty confessions.' Iwaizumi-san said as he grabbed my hand.
I laughed, 'Really now?'
Iwaizumi-san nodded enthusiastically, 'My favorite.'
'That is the sweetest, most obvious lie I've ever heard.' I said as I interlaced our fingers, 'But thank you.'
'Anything to make up for singlehandedly ruining all of your plans.'
'You're forgiven.' I said blissfully. The embarrassment of my confession was sure to hit me later, but for now, I didn't care. Then I remembered something else.
'Say, Iwaizumi-san.'
'Yeah?' He asked curiously.
'Hanamaki-san and Matsukawa-san are going to give us shit for getting together on their anniversary, aren't they?'
My boyfriend hummed in agreement, 'Oh yes, they're never going to let that go. I can already imagine their smug little faces when we tell them.'
'They'll probably say it was because of their expertly dropped hints.' I said humorously.
The ace laughed as well, 'Can't wait.'

'Congrats guys!' I exclaimed happily, throwing my hands around Chi-chan.
Iwaizumi-san was standing next to us as he got his fair share of hair ruffles and aggressive pats on the back by his friends.
I leaned closer to my friend, 'You've got to fill me in on how it all went down.'
'I will, let's meet up some time this week. I'm hanging out with Iwaizumi-san this afternoon.' The petite brunette said apologetically.
'As you should. Enjoy your date!' I said and watched my friend turn red at the mention of the word 'date'. I squealed and hugged her once more, 'I'm so happy for you.'
We turned our attention back to the guys, who were almost done minorly injuring their friend. Seriously, those slaps to the back looked painful.
'I just knew those hints would do the trick.' Hanamaki-san said while grinning.
'I don't know why we ever doubted ourselves.'
'I wish you two would second-guess yourselves more sometimes.' Iwaizumi-san grumbled.
'Blame your girlfriend, she wasn't exactly clear in her instructions.' Matsukawa-san shot back.
'You can't possibly expect us to come up with something smart with just the two of us.' Hanamaki-san added.
'Now don't sell yourselves short guys,' The pretty setter said, 'I thought it was pretty genius.'
'That's because you just enjoy laughing at me.' His best friend shot back.
The bell rang and the two couples started making their way to class, the wing spiker and middle blocker saying something about the lucky number twenty-three. I stayed behind with Oikawa as he packed his bag. He had partially unpacked it to hurriedly scribble the last few lines of the essay he had to hand in today.
When the happy couples were out of earshot, I turned to my handsome friend, 'So they're together now.'
'Yes, finally.' Oikawa said, looking very happy for his friend.
'I feel like we didn't do that much.'
'Agreed. We didn't get to do half the things we planned.'
'They were getting more and more out of hand as we went along. I think it's for the best. The spider scheme was pretty mean.'
'So… what do we do now?' The setter asked as he hoisted his bag onto his shoulder.
'We get rid of the evidence.'
That's all for today! This is the latest I've uploaded in a while. It's around 10.30 PM as I'm putting the final touches on this chapter. I was really struggling on this one. But, like I said in the beginning, I think it turned out okay.
Hope to see you again next week!
