Chapter 25
Severus Snape was not normally a nervous man or one that felt uncertain about things. He made a point to always know what he was doing and saying. It had been crucial to his survival over the years, however now his fate was in the hands of other people and while the idea of transferring to Beuxbatons sounded good. He couldn't help but wonder if it truly was as good as it sounded. He had been under Dumbeldore for so long he excepted everyone to have ulterior motives and to want power over him.
Then there was the matter of making the potion with miss Granger she knew exactly what she was doing and had a clear plan, something he had expected from the young witch. The trouble would be convincing Dumbledore that the potion would truly kill her. He had to then come up with a reason why it didn't work. That was easier however, as he could simply blame it on Hermione's inert powers protecting her. Getting Dumbeldore's reaction would be just as easy all he would need was a pensive.
But for now he pushed those thoughts out of his mind, he like his fellow staff had been called for an interview with Lord Granger. He knew it was coming he was just surprised he was the last one to be questioned. However at least he knew that no matter what he said he would be protected as the final pieces of paperwork for his transfer had been completed that morning. All he needed was the signature of a senior official of the French ministry of magic. As he walked towards the empty classroom he put his hand in his cloak and felt for the paperwork, he knew it was there but it never hurt to double check.
After a short while he reached the class room and walked inside. As soon as he entered he was greeted by lord Granger and his colleague. Snape could tell he was a truth seer, not that it mattered Snape had trained for years, so not even they could tell if he was telling the truth or not. He was ushered to chair and Lord Granger began.
"Thank you for coming. Your name is Severus Snape and you are the potions master here. Is that correct?" he asked
Snape just smirked and shock his head "No I'm afraid you're wrong" he said simply. The truth seer looked at him then at lord Granger and was confused.
"I can't read him" he said shock clear in his voice.
Lord Granger laughed softly and clicked his tongue "You really are as good as Madame Maxime says you are. I can see why she likes you" he said warmly.
"I assume she has informed you of what's going on." Snape said trying to suppress his smugness.
Lord Ganger nodded "She did and can i just say thank you. Dumbledore is almost to good at covering his tracks. Your inside information will be invaluable. But why now why try to escape now?" he asked
"I thought Madame Maxim had informed you" Snape replied.
"She did but I want to hear it in your own words" Lord Granger countered
"Very Well" Snape said with a sigh he then began to tell Lord Granger why he was doing what he was doing. He explained how ever since Harry had come to Hogwart Dumbeldore had been getting more and more power hungry and out of control. How he saw Hermione as another potential tool to increase his power. And how when she refused he began to want to get rid of her. No one stood up to Albus Dumbldore and lived to tell it. He explained what Dumbeldore had tried so far and how he had instructed him to create a potion to kill Hermione and make it look like an accident. As he spoke he made it a point to stress that if it it wasn't for Hermione being who she was. Dumbledore would have succeeded. He also made sure to tell them that the school would be better without it headmaster.
The conversation carried on for an hour with Snape telling Lord Granger everything he needed to know. Lord Granger was more than happy to note down everything and make sure copies where made. It had been as he predicted Professor Snape was a gold mine of information and where to look for incriminating evidence. By the end of the interview Lord Granger was sure he could get a conviction and Dumbledore removed with out any trouble. However it would take time and patients to weed out the necessary evidence. Just because they now knew where to look didn't mean it would be easy finding what they needed.
"Thank you Professor Snape. I can't tell you enough how much this information is going to nail Dumbledore to the wall. In fact as I said before I think if it wasn't for you he would have gotten away with it. Now I understand you have some paper work you need me to sign" he said reaching his hand out. Snape simply nodded and handed him the papers, which he promptly signed and gave back. "Excellent. Let me be the first to welcome you to the teaching staff of Buexbatons. In fact I think once you've settled in, you should come to my manor and have diner with my family" he sad kindly
Snape wasn't sure how to respond. It was the first time he had been invited to diner and felt like there wasn't some strings attached "I would be honoured, But that a ways off" He said politely
"Of course. We must focus on the present. I understand the second challenge is tomorrow. Tell me how is Hermione doing" He said lord Garnger admired his daughter self reliance but he did so wish she would share things with him every once in a while.
"She doing well. The potion she wants to use will work perfectly and she's also helped the others prepare as well. Except for Mr Potter. He and Mr Longbottom came up with his solution before Hermione even started brewing her potion." Snape said pausing for a few moments "I never noticed how smart Mr Longbottom was when it came to Herbology. In fact I've noticed more of the best qualities of the Hogwarts students lately. I don't know what changed" he added puzzlement clear in his voice.
"It's probably something to do with the fact you don't have the weight of the world on your shoulders any more." Lord Granger said it was clear he understood what was going on with Snape "Well Thank you again. I'll see you tomorrow" he added after a short pause.
Snape simply nodded and bid his goodbyes before leaving. He felt lighter some how. Like there was finally light at the end of the dark and long tunnel he had been traversing for most of his adult life.
