(A/N: Wow, so this is it, the last chapter of the story. I never, ever thought I'd be able to finish it, or so soon after starting it. This is less than a year old and it's done after this. Wow, just… wow.
Just going to say this now, there will be a sequel to this. I'm obviously not going to say too much, but I hope that everyone likes this story enough to stay for its sequel.
I have no more to say and I really hope everyone enjoys reading the final chapter. It's going to be a long one, that much I can definitely guarantee.)
V-x-V-x-V-*O-Y-O*-V-x-V-x-V
It had been only one moon since Stoick was taken away from the island by Dagur and things were not going too well, especially for Hiccup. He wasn't ready to become the leader of an entire village, he could just barely handle being the leader of the dragon academy. This was a village full of angry Vikings, not a group of teenagers and their dragons, he was not the leader they needed to keep them in order.
He tried to calm them down in the Great Hall when there was an outraged protest. They didn't believe him when he said everything would be alright, it was only amplified when Ruffnut and Tuffnut enticed them to yell even louder. It also didn't help that Snotlout's rear caught on fire again when he tried to be the leader, although it did replace the anger with humor for at least a moment.
He never imagined how difficult it would be to be a chief, his father always made it seem so easy. After his failure in the Great Hall, he wasn't sure if he could continue with the way things were going. He had to stay strong, if not for the village then for himself.
He was back in his house, Gobber was with him as he usually was whenever his father was gone. He was telling him about how his father was when became the chief, he told him about how he was "like a newborn yak trying to find his feet".
He found these stories hard to believe, his father always seemed so invincible. Although, if it was coming from Gobber then it must have some grain of truth to it. He, of course, vividly remembered the infamous Boneknapper stories that turned out to be true, no matter how ridiculous.
He even told him about how Alvin would often rant about how Stoick was not fit to be the chief. One way or another, it reminded him so much of Snotlout and how he often talks about being the best of them.
"They were best friends, you know," Gobber uttered.
"Who?" Hiccup asked.
"Alvin and Stoick," he answered. "They were inseparable since birth."
"So, what happened? What changed?" he asked again.
Gobber looked down at the floor, as if he felt sad and almost a little guilty, "Everything."
Suddenly, Fishlegs burst open the door, very frantic, "Hiccup! Hiccup! Screaming… coming!"
"Whoa, whoa, take a breath there, Fishlegs," he tried to calm him down.
"I was on patrol with Meatlug," he explained, "the Screaming Death, we saw it. It's eating its way to Berk!"
"Hiccup!" Astrid ran to him with a scroll with a small spear going through it. "This came for you, it's from Dagur."
"And the hits just keep on coming," he sarcastically commented. He took the scroll from her and began to read it.
"What does it say?" Astrid inquired.
"We have until sundown to deliver Toothless or my father will…" he couldn't even read the last part of it.
"It's a trap, you know that," she pointed out. "If we fly anywhere near Outcast Island-"
"Okay, listen, you guys get Snotlout, Helene, and the twins. You tell them to be ready for the Screaming Death," he ordered.
"What about your father?" she asked.
"I'll handle that," he answered. He mentally added, 'I hope.'
Helene was anxiously waiting on her bed for a Terrible Terror she sent out several hours ago to return. She sent it to Johann, she had to know if he really had adopted her. The night before had been so hectic that she spent the entire time thinking about being raised by a different man her entire life.
She heard the chirp of the Terrible Terror and immediately went to her window for the message. She unrolled it and read it, her heart sank, he confirmed that she was adopted. She crumpled the paper and threw it away, sitting on the window sill and crying her eyes out; her tears fell like raindrops. The strangest thing, however, was that she wasn't sure why she was crying at all.
Johann never cared for her for her entire life, he was physically, emotionally, and mentally abusive towards her. But, then again, maybe Alvin wasn't much better. He killed out of vengeance and for pure amusement, he didn't care about the well-being of others any more than Johann in some ways.
Then again, he also spent the past fifteen years looking for her, even though he was aware that she could be dead. It was his dedication and determination that motivated him to keep searching for over a decade. Perhaps that meant Alvin wasn't such a bad man, maybe he was the father she's been searching for her whole life.
She looked outside of her window to try and calm herself and that was when she spotted something. She saw Hiccup and Alvin on Toothless flying out of the Academy and in the direction of Outcast Island. What in the world were they planning?
She wasn't going to sit around and wait to find out. She whistled for Ripwave, who was resting to recover from the previous night, she came right over. She got off the window sill and mounted her, they flew out of her room and followed them.
Just moments after she left, Astrid came into her bedroom, looking for her. "Hele, we have to-" She noticed she wasn't around, which she found unusual.
She looked for a clue to figure out where she might have gone and saw the paper she crumpled, her foot accidentally kicked it. She picked it and began to unfold it to read its contents.
"What's this?" she inquired to herself. She completely unfolded it and began to read it.
As a Night Fury, Toothless was considerably very fast, but as a Shockjaw, Ripwave could catch up to him. She and her rider flew higher than they did so they could hide in the clouds.
Helene could see that Hiccup and Alvin were talking, but what about she couldn't hear because she was too far above them. She even saw Toothless voluntarily hit Alvin with his wings and Hiccup giving him an approving pat on the head.
She laughed at that, it was a little wrong, but she couldn't help it. Even Ripwave let out a laugh of her own when she saw it.
She could tell they were nearing the island, the eerie change of surroundings was unmistakable. Gods, she hadn't set foot on that island since she was captured by Dagur and held prisoner.
She remembered how Alvin wanted to talk to her then and demanded that Dagur let her go when he tried to escape with her and the Skrill. She wondered if he was going to reveal himself to be her father then, or just ask her a few questions.
She also vividly remembered the Whispering Death she befriended by feeding her. She knew Dagur didn't like dragons, was she still alive? There was no reason to in his mind, but Whispering Deaths were very vicious dragons, if he had kept her alive it would be to use her as a weapon.
Eventually, they neared Outcast Island and she saw them brake in mid-air, hovering over the ocean. After a minute or two, they dove right into the water.
'What could they be doing?' she mentally asked herself.
She thought it was most likely some kind of hidden passage onto the island, which she had no other choice but to follow unless she wanted to get herself killed. She took in a deep breath and she and her dragon were flying straight down into the sea.
Once in the water, she opened her eyes and looked for them. Her vision was blurry because she didn't usually open her eyes while underwater, but she was able to see them swim up into a cave under the island.
They followed and did the same, swimming up the hidden cave. Once they swam through the canal of the cave, they ended up into what she assumed was likely a cavern, she could see the light reflecting off the water above and the ripples in the surface.
Toothless got out of the water, climbing into the cavern. Helene wanted to stay back a little longer in order to continue to tail them, if not for one problem, she was completely out of air.
Bubbles started coming out of her nose and mouth and her grip on Ripwave started to loosen as she started to lean backwards due to an onset of lightheadedness. In a panic, Ripwave immediately swam up to the surface while her rider was still able to hold on to her.
She broke the surface water, causing Hiccup, Alvin, and Toothless to look back at them just as they were about to enter another cave. She slid off her dragon's back, barely able to grip consciousness as she coughed out seawater.
"Helene?! What the hell are you doing here?! Did you follow us?!" Hiccup yelled.
She held up a finger as she gasped for air, "One… second."
She pounded on her own chest slightly to make sure all of the water was out. Using her dragon and her saddle, she stood up from the ground.
"I thought you could use a little backup," she finally answered him. "And by the way, you need to do a better job at checking your surroundings, I followed you all the way from Berk."
"Why?! You need to help the others with the Screaming Death!" he cried out.
She simply crossed her arms, "Really? We were both lucky to get this far without being seen. You want me to take the chance of going back to Berk and Dagur seeing me and killing your father?"
He hated it when she made a good argument. He was on the island to save his father, sending her back would get him killed, despite what Alvin believed about the scenario likely not happening unless Hiccup really did fail to comply with Dagur's demands.
"Hiccup, you need me here," she asseverated. "You need all the help you can get. You know that just as much as I do."
Finally, he caved in and sighed, "Fine. I guess I do need a little help."
She smiled at that, Hiccup was a people-pleaser, he wanted to make sure everyone was happy, as he was only human. It might seem cold-hearted of her to use his personality to implant herself into his plans, but it wouldn't be the first time someone had, the other riders did it quite frequently.
She was about to take a step forward to walk on into the cave they were about to walk into when he stopped her. "Wait, before we go, I just need to ask you something quickly."
"What is it?" she asked, although she thought she already knew what he was going to ask her.
"Please, tell me, what were you going to say to me yesterday?" he questioned softly.
She looked over his shoulder to look over at Alvin, their eyes locked and, this time, she did not look away. He gave her a small smile and a nod, showing his approval.
"I found out that…" she paused and swallowed nothing but her own nervousness and confidence, "...that Johann is not my real father."
He gasped, blinking several times, "What? But he-"
"Adopted me after a man traded me to him," she interjected. "Now do you see why I followed you? I grew up in a lie, but I realize that it doesn't matter where I come from, it's who I became that matters. You grew up with some animosity between you and your father, and you're still potentially sacrificing everything for him. No matter what, he's your father, and you're his son."
He was mesmerized by her words, he knew she could speak with eloquence, but never expected it from her. And she was right. It was true, there were tensions between him and his father sometimes, but that didn't mean they didn't care for each other any less, even though his father did kidnap Toothless once with the idea of killing the Red Death himself.
"We should get going," she told him, beginning to walk towards the cave.
He grabbed her arm, "Wait, do you know who your real family is? Or at least your real father?"
She glanced at Alvin and looked back at him, "Yes."
"Who- who is he?" he asked again, almost desperate for her to give him a straight answer.
She glanced at Alvin again, "He's much closer than you think."
The five of them, humans and dragons, were walking through the cave with Alvin in the lead. While Hiccup was still sceptical about trusting him, Helene knew he could be.
Soon, they found themselves in the same prison both of the Dragon Riders were once held in at separate times. Both looked visibly uncomfortable when they saw the cells with their crudely constructed bars, and Toothless kept looking around with his back-most lobes perked like an animal's ears, all the while warbling nervously. While Ripwave had never been there, she could see the effect it had on the others and that made her a little nervous.
Eventually, they started to hear some familiar shrieks, they were from at least one Whispering Death, possibly more. Although she couldn't believe herself, Helene actually became excited at the thought of Whispering Deaths down there with them. She befriended one and hoped she remembered her, she hoped she was alright.
They kept walking and soon they did find the Whispering Deaths that made the shrieks. There were four of them, three adolescents, one adult, all were locked up and chained. The one who fed them was even more of a surprise than the high number of eggs inside one of the cells, the cell of the Whispering Death Helene befriended. Unless her memory was wrong, she thought there were more eggs inside than the last time she saw it.
"Mildew!" Hiccup shouted. "This- this traitor is your man on the inside?!" Mildew's sheep, Fungus, saw them and bleated fearfully as he hid behind his master.
"Well, he's always been loyal to me," Alvin replied.
"Oh, well, there's that warm, fuzzy feeling I was looking for," he remarked sarcastically. "Mildew, I have to say, I never thought I'd see you playing nanny to a nursery of dragons."
"An interesting turn of events, to say the least," he commented. The Whispering Death he was feeding then stole his staff, which was very humorous, especially when he tried to get it back. "Give me…" The dragon soon spit it out, hitting him in the head. "Ow!"
Hiccup noticed that Helene wasn't standing next to him, she was looking at the adult Whispering Death as she slept in her cell. He couldn't help but to notice the eggs inside and that she was the only one with eggs.
"So this is where all of the Whispering Death eggs you planted came from," he stated in an almost bewildered and surprised tone.
"His idea," Alvin responded. "And not a very good one at that."
'Why don't I find that hard to believe?' Helene mentally remarked. She started tapping on the ground with her foot, trying to awaken the adult Whispering Death inside the cell.
He then came to realize something and something else, "So, this Whispering Death laid all the eggs?"
"Every one," Mildew replied, waving his staff to gesture at them.
When Helene heard that, her previous assumption that this Whispering Death was not the mother of the Screaming Death fell down the well. It wasn't just her, Hiccup was connecting the puzzle together as well.
"Including a large red egg?" he questioned.
"Odd, that one. I was wondering about that. How'd it turn out?" he asked.
"Uh, big," he answered, making a wide gesture by throwing his hands upwards.
Mildew clicked his tongue and shook his head slightly, "Hmm…"
An idea began in his head, but in order for it to work a lot of dangerous dragons would have to be unleashed. He went over to Toothless, taking his Terrible Terror, Sharpshot, out of his saddlebag and a piece of paper to write down a message.
"What are you doing, Hiccup?" Helene asked.
"Sending a message home," he responded. "That red egg turned out to be a Screaming Death. It's been destroying whole islands looking for something, and now it's headed to Berk, but I think I might know what it's really looking for." He attached the finished note to Sharpshot's leg.
"Alright, here's our plan…" Alvin began.
"Uh, no offense there, Alvin, but your plans… your plans are terrible," Hiccup interjected, being as brutally honest as he usually was.
"Sorry, but I have to agree," Helene chimed in.
"Not taken, I suppose," he replied, almost in a casual and nonchalant manner.
"Here's what we need to do, Toothless and I will go out there as a distraction while I send this Terrible Terror with the message, meanwhile, all three of you will release the Whispering Deaths and lead them under the arena," he explained.
"Are you out of your Thor-forsaken mind, boy?!" Mildew snapped. "You want to unleash these goddamn killer dragons?!"
Both Toothless and Ripwave growled at him when he yelled and insulted them; Sharpshot could care less, he was chittering to himself. Mildew jumped, not because of Toothless and Ripwave, but because of the adult Whispering Death screeching at him, his outburst had awakened her.
"Here, uh, I'll help," he put his hand on one of the cells with the intent on opening it.
Helene pushed him away by putting her hand on his chest, "Hiccup, go, we'll handle this."
"Are you sure about that?" he asked.
"Yes, now, get out of here." She then told in a low and joking voice, "Besides, you don't want to be here when we release these dragons and Mildew starts crapping himself."
He smiled and laughed at her joke, he had a feeling there was a chance of that happening. He mounted Toothless with Sharpshot in his arm, "I'll see you on the other side, then. Good luck, all of you."
She smiled at him and nodded. He nodded in return before he was gone, going back down the tunnel.
She turned to her proverbial 'teammates', "Let's get to work."
"And pray tell, how do you plan on getting these beasts under the arena?" Mildew questioned sharply with sarcasm hanging in his voice.
"We don't have to," she replied. Both men looked at each questionably.
She went up to the cell with the adult Whispering Death inside and tried to open it. When she couldn't, she had Ripwave weaken the bars with her electricity, after taking a step back for her own safety. Afterwards, the Whispering Death used her spines to open the cell.
She was chained, so she couldn't get out of it yet, not on her own. Alvin and Helene went into it together and released the shackles from her long tail and thereby freeing her.
Neither one was sure what to expect from her, would she run or stay? When she saw them together, her trainer and the young girl who fed her once, everything came together for her. As a mother, she could sense something between them, something that was a much deeper connection than most people would have realized.
She sniffed her, she could smell the same compassion that fed her before she was taken away. She nudged her, purring slightly as she did so, her white eyes closed.
"Well, it seems she's taken a liking to you," Alvin remarked.
"Yeah," she laughed, giving her a scratch, "looks that way."
Ripwave growled with clear jealousy at the Whispering Death. Helene was her person, her trainer, her rider, not hers.
She went over to her dragon and knelt down beside her to scratch her. Her favorite spot was her chin, but she also liked it when the side of her neck was scratched.
"Don't worry, girl," she reassured. "You're still my number one."
"Does she have a name? Your Whispering Death?" she asked Alvin.
"No, I never thought about that," he answered.
Somewhere down the tunnel in the direction of the arena, there was a distressed howl, it sounded like it was from Toothless. Which meant only one thing, he and Hiccup had been captured by Dagur and were trouble.
Dagur only liked to keep his captives alive for so long - it was no secret - and his anger would likely grow if Toothless refused to listen to him. In other words, they needed to get to the arena with these Whispering Deaths as soon as possible.
"Everyone take a cell, quick!" she ordered, jumping to her feet and already rushing to open another one.
The two men did as she commanded, with some reluctance on Mildew's part, and all three opened the other three occupied cells, with some help from the adult Whispering Death and Ripwave. The younger Whispering Deaths were unshackled and went out of their cells, directly up to the adult.
They looked upon her with softer eyes that were filled with recognition and respect. They lowered their heads as if bowing to her and she gave a loving snort, recognizing them as her offspring.
Helene went up to her, offering her hand out to her. She touched the side of her face, in between her eyes and snout, and she closed her eyes, giving her permission to mount her. She did so, carefully avoiding her spines as she sat on her lengthy tail.
"Ripwave," she spoke, getting her attention. She pointed at her chin then down the tunnel.
She got the message, her tendrils became active and lighted as they sparked with her electricity. She leaped up and flapped her wings, she was flying through the tunnel, lighting the way for them.
Alvin got onto the Whispering Death, sitting behind her. Mildew, on the other hand, was literally shaking in his boots, "Oh, no! There is no way I'm going to-" He was quieted when he was grabbed by the arm and hoisted up onto the spiked dragon by Alvin.
"Let's go…" she smiled down at the Whispering Death and patted her, "...Groundsplitter."
She growled, apparently content with her new name, and started to fly down the tunnel to catch up to Ripwave, following the light she was producing. She screeched, commanding her offspring to follow her, and they did, flying after their mother.
Soon, once they were in the correct spot, Helene whistled for Ripwave, telling her to stop. She stopped and sat on the ground, waiting for them to arrive.
Groundsplitter stopped when she saw her waiting for them. She lowered her body to allow her riders to get off.
"What now?" Mildew questioned.
"If I know Hiccup, he wants to use these Whispering Deaths to give us the upper hand against Dagur and his forces," she replied.
"So, in order words, these dragons need to dig up into the arena for a surprise attack," Alvin conjectured.
She nodded, "Exactly."
"And how would we do that?" Mildew asked sarcastically.
"Leave it to Groundsplitter," she responded.
She tapped on her again and she screeched at her offspring. They shrieked back at her in response and lined up in a straight line with some distance between each other, facing the ceiling that led straight up to the arena. They lined up with where they were to dig before flying upwards, tearing through rock and dirt as if they were flying through air.
They watched as the adolescents continued upwards, soon the surprised shrieks of men could be heard. Mildew tried to step away secretly, but Alvin stopped him by grabbing his arm again, holding him up above the ground slightly.
She turned to look at her dragon, "Ripwave, follow us." She snorted in return as if it was her way of giving her a nod. She grabbed onto one of Groundsplitter's spines and Alvin did the same, still holding Mildew. "Hold on."
She gave Groundsplitter a light kick and she screeched. Before they knew it, they were flying up through the ground as she dug a hole. Meanwhile, Ripwave followed them to keep up with her rider.
Soon, they broke the surface and they were out in the open world once again. It felt refreshing to Helene, but she had no time to relish in it, not yet at least.
She let go of Groundsplitter and landed on the back of her dragon. They flew around the perimeter of the arena, firing at the Outcast and Berserker soldiers.
Alvin let go of his dragon as well, dropping Mildew in the process. He swung his sword at the Berserkers and the traitorous Outcasts that were formerly under his command, they deserved it.
All of the Whispering Deaths, including Groundsplitter, were tearing apart the ground. Every soldier they came into contact with were knocked out, incapacitated but not killed.
One soldier tried to attack Alvin with a mace, but Stoick defended him, just as he did for him back during the attack on Berk. He laughed, "Just like the good old days!"
Meanwhile, while Dagur and his soldiers were distracted by the sudden attack, Hiccup started running to his dragon. Toothless was released during the confusion and fighting back against anyone who tried to attack him.
He grinned as he neared his best friend, "Come on, Toothless."
Suddenly, out of nowhere, the ground cracked and began to crumble underneath them! As a result of this, the metal ceiling began creaking as it caved in on the people inside, trapping them all.
Hiccup had no other choice but to hold onto the collapsing ceiling and watch as everyone else, including Toothless, went down with the crumbling floor. Helene was on Ripwave, so she was safe, but there was no way out, not that she was interested in running out on them. No, she was staying until the end.
"Toothless!" he cried out.
Dagur's soldiers surrounded him, the man himself was not interested in backing down until he had what he wanted. "Okay, Night Fury, come to Daddy."
Toothless, despite the fact that he could not fly away, wasn't backing down either. He fired plasma blasts at the soldiers left and right without a break, and it unfortunately led to him becoming defenseless when he reached his shot limit.
"Oh, no, six-shot limit," he muttered.
With Toothless now completely defenseless, it gave Dagur the perfect opportunity to grab onto his saddle. He tried to throw him off, to absolutely no avail, he wasn't letting go.
"Come on, already!" Dagur struggled to get his foot into the pedal that controlled his tail.
Hiccup cried out his dragon's name, this was his worst nightmare come true. It made him so scared and so sick as well, a vile human like Dagur even touching his dragon was sickening enough, but mounting and trying to ride him?! That was beyond stomach-churning!
Just as Dagur was able to put his foot on the pedal, he was thrown off when he fell away in shock when he was shot at. What was fired at him was electricity from Ripwave, she growled at him threateningly.
"You!" he sneered.
"Us!" she crossed her arms.
He grabbed his sword to attack her, but Ripwave fired at him again. He was crazy, but he knew from experience that he shouldn't play with electricity.
With Dagur dealt with for the moment, Toothless focused on getting back to his rider. He leaped to the edge of a piece of the ground, but didn't make it and his claws could barely hold onto it.
"Toothless!" Hiccup called down to him. He roared up at him as he struggled to keep his grip for much longer.
With a deep breath, he let out of the metal ceiling, at the same time, Toothless did the same. The gods must have been on their side, as they plummeted, they managed to be reunited once again. He inserted his prosthetic into the pedal and they were flying up to his father. Helene joined with them after the two were finally united again.
Dagur was undeterred, he and his men were climbing up the rocks and crumbling remains of the arena floor. Before they could get close to them, they were stopped by a sudden explosion.
That was an explosion caused by a Hideous Zippleback, which meant it was the twins with Barf and Belch. It also meant another thing, the other riders were there with them.
"Whoa! This is chaos on a level I've never seen before!" Ruffnut exclaimed, excited by all of the destruction caused by Dagur's army and the Whispering Deaths.
"I know, I want to live here," Tuffnut added.
"Forever!" she excitedly finished.
If there was ever a better time for the other riders to show up and help, Hiccup and Helene didn't know when that would be. It was a huge relief to have some more help with this already intense battle.
"Boy, are we glad to see you guys!" Hiccup grinned.
"Don't thank us yet, things are about to get a lot crazier," Astrid responded. Stormfly shot her flame at the enemy soldiers
Just seconds later, frantic yelling from Fishlegs, nervous warbling from Meatlug, and grunting and growling from the Screaming Death could be heard not too far away, although neither one was in view yet. They came into sight just a minute later and Stoick was utterly dumb-founded about why his son would have it brought to the island.
"Why in the name of Odin did you bring that here?" he questioned.
"This may be the only chance we have to get rid of it," he hastily answered.
"The Whispering Death I was holding onto is the Screaming Death's mother," Helene chimed in.
"It's been destroying those islands searching for her!" he finished.
"That… thing has a mother?" Stoick asked, bewildered.
"Yeah," Hiccup shrugged.
"Go figure," she remarked.
The Screaming Death roared, which caught the attention of Groundsplitter. She looked up at the large white dragon and screeched.
"They've seen each other," she told him. Ripwave fired her electricity at a soldier who tried to attack them.
"Okay. All we have to do is get them together and get clear of this place," he stated. A pair of bolas were thrown at him so he had to use his shield to protect himself.
"Then what?" his father asked.
"Hopefully, it does exactly what it should," she responded.
"And that would be...?" Astrid inquired when she and Stormfly flew up to join them after fighting a couple of soldiers.
Of course, Hiccup was characteristically unable to give a definite answer, "Something good?"
Both Helene and Astrid could have slapped themselves on the forehead. Would he ever be able to develop his plan through and through?
Groundsplitter followed her offspring with her eyes and unconsciously with her body. She seemed eager to finally meet her offspring for the first time. She roared up at the Screaming Death to get it's attention.
"Now, Fishlegs, now!" Hiccup yelled.
He praised the gods he was finally done, his nerves were a mess, "Thank Odin, thank Odin, thank Odin!" He released the dragon root he was using to bait the Screaming Death, "Root away!"
Groundsplitter roared again to get her offspring's attention. It heard her and looked down at her with softened eyes, identical to how its siblings looked upon her.
Dagur seemed to realize what was happening, "Ah, I see. It wants its mommy."
Dagur had his soldiers lasso Groundsplitter and hold her in place. She struggled against her restraints, shrieking as she tried to escape.
"Dagur, no!" Hiccup cried. "You don't know what you're doing."
"Let her go before you destroy us all!" Helene pleaded.
"And why would I do that?" he jeered wryly. "Hello? I'm deranged!"
"Well, you can't argue with logic like that, right?" Tuffnut commented.
Groundsplitter's roars of distress upset her child, the Screaming Death. It roared as it ripped through the rocks, taking out a large number of soldiers.
Savage saw this and immediately started to walk away. "That's my cue!" He didn't get far, Ripwave electrocuted him in the back and incapacitated him.
Helene certainly didn't forget about the time she was undercover as Heather and when she was captured by Dagur. "Consider that payback, asshole!"
Groundsplitter screeched again, but Dagur wasn't letting go. "Back off, Hiccup! You know if I destroy her, that thing will take us all out!"
"He's right. Everyone, back off!" he commanded.
"Wise choice. Now, I might be interested in a trade." Hiccup glared at him. "Oh, come on, really? You didn't see this coming?"
What choice did he have? It was either comply with him or let everyone be killed by a heartbroken Screaming Death.
Suddenly, everyone heard Snotlout boast a declaration as he and Hookfang flew overhead, "Never retreat! Never surrender!"
"Snotlout!" Hiccup tried to stop him from doing something reckless, but he couldn't.
Hookfang's body ignited and he started to fly in a circle while breathing fire, creating a fireball. He stopped as soon as he started and clapped his wings, sending the fireball down.
Dagur and his men jumped out of the way before the fireball reached them, releasing their grips on Groundsplitter. She was protected from the flames thanks to her scales, the ropes that once restrained her, however, burned to the ashes.
Helene landed next to Hiccup and Toothless as Groundsplitter gazed upon them. Hiccup nodded and Helene smiled, both telling her to unite with her offspring.
Her three adolescent offspring flew down to her, obviously wanting her to meet her other child. Sparing one last glance at them, she flew up with her children in tow and soon came face to face with her colossal spawn.
They locked eyes, hers more analytical, just to be certain that it was her child, while the Screaming Death's were gentle and hopeful. They exchanged growls between each other, as if communicating. Satisfied that they were who each other was looking for, they closed their eyes and brought their snouts together, purring affectionately.
Then, the Screaming Death and Groundsplitter turned to Hiccup and Helene. The Screaming Death appeared in front of Hiccup while Groundsplitter was in front of Helene.
It roared at him in gratitude, it was enough to blow his hair back like it was in the wind. Hiccup wasn't sure what to say, "Uh, you're welcome."
Meanwhile, she gave her a mellow shriek to show her own gratitude to her. She placed her hand on her snout, "You're welcome, and thank you."
Once they were done, they flew away to reunite with the three adolescents. Some more growls were exchanged before they began to fly away into the horizon to begin their new life together as a family.
Ripwave nudged her rider's hand and slipped her head underneath her palm. She scratched her head and smiled, "I know, family is precious, isn't it?"
She turned around to look at Alvin, who had his recently renewed soldiers take Dagur to the prison. Apparently, he had attempted one last attack before he was quickly apprehended. He was inherently quite excited with having Dagur as his prisoner, it only seemed fair for trying to kill him.
She sighed, swallowing her fears and nervousness all at once. There was something she wanted to do for nearly the entire day and it was a good time. It was now or never.
She walked up to him and looked up at the towering man that was her real father. "Um, Alvin-" she paused, "Dad… I- I'm happy to call you my father." She embraced him, leaning into him, something she never would have done with Johann.
He returned her embrace, "I'm proud to call you my daughter."
She could have burst into tears of joy when she heard him say that. She's waited her whole life to hear those words.
Everyone else who saw this happening were confused by the sight. Everyone except for Astrid, she already knew what it was about.
"Uh, is there something wrong with this?" Tuffnut muttered.
Snotlout scoffed, "Yeah, who knew she liked older guys."
"What's wrong with that?" Ruffnut asked.
Astrid had Stormfly smack them all in the head with her tail, she couldn't believe how idiotic they were. "You muttonheads, he's her father."
Hiccup heard her say this and he was very confused, "What? Astrid, what are you-?"
She held up the paper she found in her room earlier, "It's from Johann. In it he tells her that he's not her father, Alvin is."
He hit his forehead with his palm, 'Of course! What didn't I realize it before?'
Together, he and Astrid went up to Helene to talk to her. Alvin left them to discuss something with Stoick.
She rubbed her arm sheepishly, "So, I guess you know now."
"How long have you known?" Astrid inquired.
"Not long, just last night," she replied. "Although, looking back, I should have been able to figure it out sooner."
"Well, hey, you know, it might be nice to have a chief as a father," Hiccup told her in somewhat of an awkward manner. He was a little bit embarrassed for not being able to figure it out earlier.
She smiled, "Yeah, maybe."
Hiccup and Helene looked over at their fathers, who stood on the edge of a rock extended outward. Astrid left them to allow them to see the outcome of their discussion together.
They watched as they turned to face each other and shook hands instead of drawing swords, effectively restoring their friendship. It was a proud moment for them to see that sight, to see the revived friendship between their respective fathers.
"Nice to see our Dads getting along," she remarked to him.
"Yeah, it is," he agreed. "You know," he began, she looked at him, "this is just the beginning of something amazing, don't you think?"
She smiled and exhaled through her nose as she laughed, "I think so, Hiccup. I think so."

(A/N: And that's that. Oh, my God, I never thought I'd finish this story less than a year after starting it. This is amazing and I'm so happy and blessed to have accomplished this. This is only the second story I've been able to complete and I'm proud of myself.
I don't just have myself to thank, I have everyone who stuck me and this story until the very end. So, thank you, thank you so much for the support. Without you guys here I'm not sure if I would have finished it.
Like I said before, there will be a sequel to this and it will be in the works very soon. It shouldn't be a very long wait and I'm really looking forward to it.
Obviously, I can't tell you too much about it, but I can say it will definitely be longer, probably more swear words and harsher ones, and a new main character. Without any spoilers, all I really can say is that this new character will have an impact on everyone, especially Hiccup and Helene.
I hope I've intrigued everyone enough to compel them to stick around for a while until the sequel gets published. Until that day comes, I hope everyone very much enjoyed this story and thank you again for reading it.)
