Alright! Here's the chapter! I want to thank Zgod again for being my beta, he's awesome (Check out his fics!) Also, I want to give y'all some info about the next chapters. So I'm going to keep writing day-to-day (I'm talking about day-to-day in the story) until Sunday comes around. After Sunday I'm going to skip the whole school week and write about the Gaang going to Omashi, and then after that, I'll skip the days until the tournament starts, and then after that, I'll skip to when the basketball season starts and write some stuff there. This will most likely take several chapters to complete, meaning that this story will be 300,000+ words, which is sooooooo long lol. So after all of that, I'm going to end this story and begin writing the Gaang During College, and if you are sad about that because you wanted more High School stories, then don't worry! I also plan on writing another fic called 'The Tales of Kataang,' and it will be a series of one-shots about interesting and cool stories that took place during Kataang's Junior and Senior year. Okay, now that's out of the way, y'all can read now lmao. Enjoy the chapter!
I don't own ATLA or anything else in this story. Don't sue me.
Thursday, September 3rd
*One hour before Hakoda returning to his house*
Hakoda felt like he was a mixture of powerful emotions. He really wanted to kick Aang's ass for having sex with his daughter under his roof but his rational side said he was being unfair to Katara because he knew Suki and his son had sex in Sokka's room before and he didn't mind it, as long as no one was home and they did it safely. Now, the same situation except it's his daughter instead of his son and he was having a totally different reaction. Once he arrived at the bar he parked, turned off his car, and entered. He sat down at the bar and waved the bartender over.
"Can I get water and a shot of whiskey please," He said quickly. The bartender could see him sweating.
"What kind, sir?" She asked.
"Bourbon," He answered.
"Coming right up," She said as she began filling a shot glass with bourbon whiskey. Hakoda nodded and looked to his right to see an old, chubby man with a long gray beard. He only glanced at him and noticed that he was looking at him.
"Rough day?" The mystery man said.
"It was a great day until 15 minutes ago," Hakoda answered, earning a belly laugh from the old man.
"Here you go sir," The bartender said while pushing the shot glass towards him and a bottle of water.
"You know, I'm more of a tea man, but whiskey can work too," The old man said with a chuckle. Hakoda took the shot.
"That's the stuff," Hakoda said with a chuckle of his own.
"So tell me what's bothering you," The old man said. Hakoda looked at him and raised his eyebrow.
"What's your name?" He asked, dodging his question.
"I'm Iroh of the fire nation," He said with a smile.
"Oh… nice you meet you, Iroh. I'm Hakoda of the Southern Water Tribe," Hakoda replied. They shook hands.
"Nice to meet you too, Hakoda. I'm told I give great advice, so why don't you tell me what's bothering you?" Iroh asked in his deep voice. Hakoda sighed for a minute and motioned the bartender to refill his shot glass.
"It's my daughter," Hakoda said.
"Ahh, I see, children are a blessing but they can be hard at times," Iroh replied as the bartender refilled Hakoda's shot glasses.
"You don't have to tell me twice, but the reason I'm freaking out is because she has this boyfriend and…" Hakoda trailed off.
"Do you not approve of her relationship?" Iroh asked curiously. Hakoda was about to take a shot, but he stopped himself and set it back down on the table before answering.
"No, I do, he's a great guy. I was worried about her first relationship because nowadays guys just use girls for sex, but this guy is a man, not a boy," Hakoda answered.
"That's good, so what seems to be the problem?" Iroh asked.
"They're moving pretty fast, they got together two to three weeks ago and I know they're having sex already," Hakoda answered, Iroh nodded stroked his beard.
"Hmm, that is really fast. So what exactly is worrying you?" Iroh asked.
"I'm not exactly worried… I mean I'll always worry about my children, but that isn't the main issue. About 20 minutes ago I walked into my house and I heard them…" Hakoda trailed off, hoping Iroh would understand what he met. However, Iroh did understand what he meant, but he wanted Hakoda to say it. It was the first step in facing the issue.
"You walked in on them doing what?" Iroh asked, playing dumb. Hakoda looked at him and sighed. He took another shot.
"Come on… you know… I walked in on them doing it, well they were in her room and I didn't see them, but the noises will haunt me forever," Hakoda admitted, wanting another shot, but he didn't want to get drunk.
"I see, well, first I want to say you did the right thing by not interrupting them and scolding your daughter, that would have made things worse," Iroh said while taking a sip of his tea.
"At least I did that right then," Hakoda said while taking a drink of his water.
"But I really want to kick her boyfriend's ass for having sex with my daughter under my roof, but I know it's not right, so why do I feel this way?" Hakoda asked curiously.
"I think society has made you believe that sex is bad when a girl does it but good when a guy does it. You need to separate yourself from what society says and look at the situation equally. Do you have a son?" Iroh asked curiously. Hakoda thought about what he said and realized it was true.
"Yes I do, and I know, it's not fair because when I found out my son lost his virginity, I gave him a high five, and I didn't have the urge to kick his girlfriends' ass," Hakoda confessed, earning a laugh from Iroh.
"Well, I'm glad you understand it's not fair. Now, I don't have a daughter myself, however, I know if I did I would be more protective because we both know how guys think, but if her boyfriend genuinely loves her and respects her, then there's nothing wrong with them having sex," Iroh said with wisdom.
"Yeah… I know. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon. I mean, I knew they had sex before I walked in on them today, but it's different when you actually hear it," Hakoda replied.
"I understand. It's okay that you're feeling this way, as long as you recognize why it's wrong to think that way. I believe you should be happy for her like you were happy for your son." Iroh advised.
"I want to, I really really want to, but I still can't shake this feeling of being protective and kicking her boyfriend's ass," Hakoda confessed.
"I think you need to ask yourself why you feel the need to kick his ass," Iroh said, Hakoda sighed and thought for a moment.
"I think it's because I see it as a sign of disrespect. The way society talks about women is why I see it as a sign of disrespect. I mean, how many times have you heard, "Yeah bro, I fucked that bitch!" or "I blew her back out!" Hakoda asked.
"I heard it way too many times," Iroh replied.
"The way guys talk about sex has subconsciously ingrained into my head that having sex with someone's daughter is the highest level of disrespect," Hakoda confessed, mostly to himself.
"I agree, and I'm guilty of that too," Iroh replied.
"It's weird because I never talked about my wife like that. I never told anyone that I 'fucked her.' And I've never felt like I was disrespecting her father. I've always viewed sex as the highest level of intimacy and I didn't want to share that with just anyone. I'm grateful my mother taught me that... I just hope I taught my daughter what my mother taught me." Hakoda confessed while looking down and fidgeting with his shot glass. Iroh didn't say anything at first, which allowed Hakoda to talk again.
"By the way my daughter's name is Katara and her boyfriend's name is Aang and my son is Sokka. Anyway, I know Aang views sex as sacred. I mean the kid is literally the most gentle thing in existence. He won't kill a thing because he believes all life is sacred and Sokka told me he never says sex, he always says, 'making love.' So there's no reason for me to kick his ass." Hakoda confessed, a little surprised he was being so open with a stranger, but something about Iroh made him feel heard.
"Ahhh, he's an Air nomad. They have a good sense of humor and I heard they're great lovers, but a lot of them choose to practice celibacy and monkhood. Anyway, I think the best piece of advice I can give you is to talk to your mother. Mom always knows best. Also, do not let society dictate what you think and feel. People put labels on each other and judge others by their gender or race. People think they're separate from those they discriminate against, but we're all connected. We're all one race and that's the human race." Iroh said while turning his entire body to face him
"So try not to have double standards in your household, because your daughter and son are both human, they are connected, even though one's a girl and one's a boy. If you have double standards, you're teaching your children to raise their children with the same ideology. Break the cycle," Iroh advised. Hakoda looked at him and processed everything he was saying. He took another sip of water before speaking.
"Wow… you do give great advice," Hakoda said with a chuckle
"Wait, how'd you know he was an Air Nomad?" Hakoda asked curiously.
"I like to study the other elements and their wisdom. You said he believed all life is sacred, which is one of the core beliefs of the Air Nomads, plus his name is unique to his people," Iroh answered.
"Oh, I see. I just wanted to say I'm grateful for Aang. I really am, he's a great influence on Katara," Hakoda confessed.
"That's great to hear, and I'm sure your wife is grateful too," Iroh said before taking a sip of his tea.
"My wife passed away about 8 years ago. I miss her every day… I just wish she was able to meet Aang and see how great Katara and Sokka turned out to be," Hakoda said in a sad voice. He felt like crying but stopped himself. Iroh looked at him and behind him, he saw a blue figure walk up to Hakoda and hug him from behind. She was beautiful and was wearing a fur parka with the water tribe insignia on her chest. She was transparent with a slight blue dim to her figure. Hakoda felt warm and comforted all of a sudden. He felt this several times since Kya's passing but always brushed it off. Iroh smiled and looked directly forward, towards alcohol on the shelves that were behind the bar.
"Don't worry, Hakoda, she already met Aang," Iroh said. Hakoda looked at him with a confused look.
"What?" Hakoda asked. Iroh looked back at him and then slightly behind his head he was Kya snuggling against his head and back. Hakoda noticed he wasn't looking directly at him and seemed to be looking behind him, so he turned around to check, causing Kya's spirit form to dissipate into the air.
"What are you looking at?" Hakoda asked, seriously confused.
"Nothing, but just know that your wife is always with you, and whoever you meet, she meets," Iroh answered before taking another sip of his tea.
"Oh...okay," Hakoda said, a little confused on what to feel, but he knew he felt comforted. Hakoda stood up and put a twenty-dollar bill under the shot glass.
"Thank you for the advice, Iroh. I really needed it," Hakoda said truthfully.
"I'm always happy to help," Iroh replied with a warm smile.
"Could we exchange numbers? Just in case I need advice again," Hakoda said with a chuckle.
"I don't own a phone, but does your daughter go to the high school nearby?" Iroh asked curiously. Hakoda nodded.
"I have a nephew who goes there too, his name is Zuko, they mig-" Iroh was cut off by Hakoda.
"Zuko is your nephew?! Katara and him are best friends! Wait, I just want to make sure we're talking about the same person, does he have a scar on his face?" Hakoda asked. Iroh frowned and furrowed his eyebrows because he knew why he had that scar, but he let it go quickly.
"Yes, and what a coincidence," Iroh said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, I guess I'll just ask Katara to ask Zuko where I can find you," Hakoda replied.
"That's perfect," Iroh responded.
"It was great talking to you, I gotta put that advice to work now," Hakoda said with a chuckle, making Iroh chuckle as well.
"Good luck! Bye," Iroh waved. Hakoda waved back and went to his car. Hakoda sat in his car and drank his water thinking about the wisdom of his new friend Iroh. He didn't feel the urge to kick Aang's ass anymore, which was a step in the correct direction. After about 10 minutes of sitting in his car, he finally decided to go home. Once he arrived he opened his door and entered.
"Hey, dad," Katara greeted.
"You're off early," She pointed out while getting up to hug her father. She completely forgot about the hickeys and red marks on her neck. Aang got up as well to greet his girlfriend's father.
"Hi Hakoda," Aang greeted.
"Hey kids, work was slow so I came home early. Where's Gran and Sokka?" Hakoda said after breaking his hug with his daughter.
"Sokka is with Suki and Gran's at the store," Katara answered, when she hugged him she noticed he smelled a little like alcohol. She raised an eyebrow because her father didn't usually drink by himself, only at parties or special occasions, but she just brushed it off thinking it was her imagination.
"Oh okay, let's watch some T.V and relax then," Hakoda said while walking past them. Aang and Katara followed him and they sat down. Hakoda was in his lazy boy while Katara and Aang took the couch. The young couple was settled in their usual cuddling position with Katara snuggled up onto his shoulder and Aang's arms around her waist. Hakoda looked at them for a second and smiled when he saw how happy his daughter was. But then that's when he noticed the hickeys and red marks on his daughter's neck. He felt the rage build up again and looked back at the T.V. "Deep breath, Hakoda. Don't carry on the double standard, I've seen Sokka with hickeys on his neck and it never bothered me so this shouldn't bother me," He thought while breathing easier. Katara and Aang didn't notice it and continued watching T.V. He was proud of himself for a moment for not treating his daughter differently from his son, but he still tried to shake the noises he heard from his head.
They continued to watch T.V for an hour and Aang decided it was time to leave.
"I think I should get going," Aang said, trying to get up.
"Nooooo, Gyatso said you can be home by 9:00, we still have time," Katara pouted while hugging him tighter so he wouldn't leave. Aang chuckled and hugged her back.
"I still need to meditate and spend some time with Appa, or else he gets sad and lonely. There's no other bison he can play with," Aang said.
"Five more minutes," She said while burying her face in his chest. Aang chuckled and agreed.
"You're making it hard to leave," Aang said truthfully. Katara giggled and they cuddled for five more minutes. After they were done, Katara let go and they both stood up.
"I love you, beautiful," Aang hummed, making Katara smile.
"I love you too, sweetie. Text me when you get home so I know you're safe." Katara hummed. Aang nodded and they hugged each other one more time.
"Bye Hakoda, thank you for having me over," Aang said.
"Bye son and you're welcome," Hakoda replied with a small smile. After Aang left and went home. Katara sighed and missed her boyfriend already. She sat down on the couch and took out her phone to distract herself.
"Oh, by the way, Katara, you should probably put some makeup on to cover up those hickies, or else Sokka is gonna lose it," Hakoda said while switching the channel. Katara's heart sank, she completely forgot about the hickeys on her neck and blushed furiously.
"I-... I'm sorry, please don't be mad at Aang or me," Katara pleaded. Hakoda looked at her and chuckled.
"Why would I be mad? Sokka does it all the time, why can't you?" Hakoda told his daughter, but saying it to her made him actually believe himself. Every minute of talking about this made it easier. Katara was surprised. She thought if he ever saw hickeys on her neck that he would be furious, but she was wrong.
"Oh… so you're not mad? I thought you would be," Katara confessed. Hakoda sighed and turned off the T.V.
"I actually came home earlier and I uhh… I heard you two." Hakoda confessed, making Katara blush. She felt so embarrassed.
"You did?! Oh, my spirits this is so embarrassing! You should have texted me that you're coming home early," She said while burying her face in a pillow.
"I'm gonna text you from now on, and, trust me, I was furious, but I knew it wasn't fair so I went to a bar to relax. And that's where I met this wise old man who helped me. He taught me about double standards and there will be no more double standards in this household," Hakoda said sternly. Katara smiled a little because put the pillow on top of her lap.
"Really? You really mean that?" Katara asked, she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Yes, sweetie, I'm sorry for being overprotective and treating you differently from Sokka," Hakoda said truthfully.
"Aww, dad! It's okay, I know you were only like that because you just want what's best for me." Katara said while getting up and hugging her father.
"Just practice safe sex and do it in private," Hakoda said while returning her embrace. Katara pulled back and sat back down on the couch.
"Please, for the love of spirits, do it in private because the oogies I'm feeling right now are unimaginable," Hakoda said with a chuckle. Katara rolled her eyes and laughed.
"You had to ruin the moment," Katara teased.
"It's true! You and Aang are so Oogie! But it's okay because you're mother and I was the same way," Hakoda said truthfully. Katara smiled at her father's words.
"By the way, the old man I was talking about is Zuko's uncle. I think we should invite him for dinner," Hakoda said, surprising Katara.
"Oh, that's awesome! I'll ask Zuko for this Saturday, is that okay?" Katara asked.
"That's perfect," Hakoda replied. The rest of the day went smoothly. Katara ended up putting some makeup on to cover her hickeys so that Sokka wouldn't find out. Once it was time to bed she got into her pajamas and laid in her bed. She pulled out her phone and saw a message from Aang.
"Hey, beautiful, what are you doing?" She read with a smile creeping on her face.
"Nothing much, just in bed, what about you?"
"Just thinking of you" She read with a blush.
"Hmm, what about me? :)"
"You know… everything,"
"Like?"
"How awesome you are,"
"Lmao, Aang are you sure?"
"Of course, why wouldn't I be lol"
"Because I feel like you're thinking what I'm thinking,"
"And what would that be?" Aang texted, knowing he was caught.
"Don't play dumb," She texted with a laugh.
"Okay okay you caught me, I was thinking of us making love earlier today,"
"I knew it :) and I can't wait to do it again on Sunday,"
"Me too. When are you going on birth control?"
"I haven't made an appointment yet, but I will soon,"
"Oh okay, I'm not gonna lie I can't wait lol,"
"Me either, it's gonna be amazing,"
"It is, but I still don't want you to forget your promise if the pills start affecting you negatively,"
"Don't worry, if it does I'll stop taking it. Plus, it should really help with my period," Aang read. Since they were talking about sex, Aang really wanted to bring up his thoughts about why Katara wanted to be called a slut and a whore, but decided against it because it was late.
"I hope it does help, anyway beautiful, we should go to sleep, I love you,"
"We should I'll see you tomorrow, I love you too, good night,"
"Good night," Aang replied before shutting his phone off and going to sleep.
Friday, September 4th
Aang woke up the next day and got ready for school. He did his usual routine of taking a shower, brushing his teeth, shaving his head, and getting into his new clothes he got for his birthday with a touch of cologne he also got on his birthday. After he finished, he went to the kitchen to see Gyatso eating breakfast.
"Good morning, Aang, how'd you sleep?" Gyatso asked as he saw Aang sit down in front of him.
"Good morning, I slept well,"
"That's good, so what's the plan for today?" He asked as he took a bite of his food.
"Same thing, except I don't have practice today, but I'm going to Hakoda's shop today for work," He answered.
"You know, Aang, you don't have to work, we're getting on our feet again," Gyatso said in a soft voice.
"I know, but I'm not really doing it for us," Aang replied.
"Really? Then why are you doing it when you don't have to? You should spend your time being a kid," Gyatso said with one eyebrow raised in confusion.
"Don't worry about that, Gyatso, I'm still goofing off all the time," Aang said with a laugh, "I'm doing it because Hakoda, Sokka, and I are saving up money to pay for private waterbending lessons for Katara,"
"Ahhh okay, that's great that you're doing that, but I want you to be careful," Gyatso said, earning a confused look from Aang.
"What do you mean?" Aang asked.
"Well, I know I'm not the best person to ask when it comes to romantic love because I'm a monk, but I do know that you're absolutely falling in love with Katara," Gyatso said, making Aang a little more confused.
"I already fell in love with her," Aang replied.
"I know, and that's great, but you should understand that love isn't always so nice, it can be cruel and unfair," Gyatso said after finishing his meal.
"I'm still not catching on," Aang replied in a confused tone.
"What I'm saying is that you two are going to fight, and it's gonna get ugly at times, but if you truly love each other then it'll be okay. However, if you just love her because of her looks then you don't have a strong foundation and it'll fall apart." Gyatso said as he stood up to wash his dish. He looked back at Aang and spoke again.
"I'm just saying, make sure you know exactly why you love her and every argument or fight you have with her will be easier for you," Gyatso said while washing his dish. Aang began laughing.
"What are the chances? Katara and I had a fight yesterday. We talked it over with Gran and she taught us how to properly communicate, and then afterward we went to Katara's room and I told her all the reasons why I love her," Aang said after his laughter. Gyatso facepalmed and laughed at himself.
"This is why I'm a monk. I'm not good at advising about love," Gyatso said, earning another laugh from Aang.
"It's okay Gyatso. The advice you gave is great, but Katara and I are learning on our own… with the help of Gran here and there," Aang said with a chuckle.
"That's good. Experience is the best teacher. Anyway, you should get going, or else you'll be late," Gyatso said as he fried his hands on a rag. Aang nodded and got up.
"You're right, I'll be home around 7:00 pm… but it'll most likely be a later because Katara likes to hang out," Aang said as he opened the front door.
"That's fine, just be home by 9:00 pm," Gyatso said.
"I will. Bye Gyatso,"
"Bye," Gyatso replied while seeing Aang close the door. As soon as he closed the door, Aang pulled out his phone to text his girlfriend.
"Good morning, beautiful, I'm on my way to the library,"
"Good morning, handsome :) I'm already here. I'm with Zuko," She replied. Aang smiled and quickly got on his air scooter to go to school.
Meanwhile, about an hour earlier.
Katara had to wake up early because Sokka had to go to a basketball meeting that took place about 30 minutes before school started. She groaned and complained to Sokka the whole way to the school.
"Ugh, why can't you teach me how to drive so I don't have to deal with this," Katara vented.
"Because remember what happened last time? You almost got us killed!" Sokka exclaimed.
"I just hit the curb, you're such a drama queen," Katara said while rolling her eyes.
"My car still hasn't forgiven you for treating her so rudely," Sokka said while petting the dashboard.
"Ugh, does Suki know about your relationship with this car? It has to be a form of cheating," Katara said with a laugh.
"Shut up," Sokka growled.
"Whatever, and why didn't you invite Aang to come to this basketball meeting anyway?" Katara asked.
"I was meaning to, but I forgot. If he gets good then we'll make it to championships. But then again I can carry the team there anyway," He said with a smirk. Katara looked at him and wanted to wipe that stupid smug look off of his face.
"You suck at basketball.," She said sternly.
"Says the one that sucks at tennis," He fired back.
"I'm better than you," She countered, narrowing her eyes at her brother.
"You? Better than me at a sport? Please, sis, you're a girl," He teased. Sexist jokes were the best way to get a reaction out of Katara.
"That has nothing to do with me being good at tennis. Plus I can beat you up if I wanted to," She growled, she started in a semi-happy mood. She was annoyed that she had to wake up earlier, but she was happy to see Aang.
"No you can't," Sokka said with a laugh.
"You just wait till I'm a master," She snarled. Sokka smirked.
"I'll still be able to beat you up because you're a girl," He teased, making Katara angrier.
"Ugh! Why are you so sexist! I'm gonna tell Suki," She threatened. Sokka's smirk went away instantly.
"Okay okay I was kidding, please don't tell her," Sokka said as they pulled into the parking lot.
"Can you still not beat her in a one-on-one sparring match?" Katara asked with a smirk.
"...She graduated at the top of the class, okay? She's really good," Sokka said truthfully. Katara laughed and Sokka parked in a parking spot. They got out and walked together to the entrance. Katara looked at her brother and pinched his forearm really hard.
"OW! OW! Stop it!" Sokka exclaimed in pain, trying to escape her pinch.
"That's what you get!" Katara said with a laugh.
"Ugh, fine, whatever. I'm off to the meeting," Sokka said, annoyed. He rubbed his arm and left. That's when Katara remembered her promise to Aang to not hurt Sokka anymore and groaned.
"Ugh, why did I hurt him again?... I mean he did deserve it," She told herself. Zuko saw the whole interaction and laughed when he heard what Katara said. Katara was startled at first but realized it was just Zuko.
"What? Katara actually regretting hurting Sokka? Who are you and what did you do with my friend?" Zuko teased, earning a laugh from Katara.
"Whatever, Zuzu," Katara teased.
"Don't call me that!" Zuko said, raising his voice.
"Fine, where's Mai?" Katara asked.
"She always wakes up late, so I usually hang with Sokka, but he has a meeting, so I guess I have to hang out with you," Zuko teased, acting like he didn't like hanging out with her. Katara rolled her eyes.
"Whatever, let's go to the library, that's where Aang and I hang out," Katara said as they both began walking towards the library.
"Are you sure you hang out with him? Or do y'all just suck face the whole time?" Zuko teased again. He seemed to be in a teasing mood.
"Oh like you don't suck face with Mai," Katara fired back.
"You got me there," Zuko said with a laugh. They arrived at the library and sat at a table. They were across from each other.
"Hey, so my dad met your uncle yesterday," Katara said, surprising Zuko.
"Really?!" Zuko exclaimed.
"Yeah, and he wants to invite him over for dinner tomorrow, could you ask him?" Katara asked.
"Hell yes! Any time with uncle instead of my dad is a blessing," Zuko said, excited. Katara nodded and chuckled, seeing Zuko excited was not common. She took out her phone and that's when she got the texts from Aang. Zuko saw the smile on her face and chuckled.
"Is that your boyfriend? Awww, look at the smile on your face," Zuko teased. Katara looked up and narrowed her eyes. Zuko was really like a brother to her because he could annoy her just like Sokka.
"Shut up," She snarled. Zuko laughed, messing with Katara was one of his favorite past times.
"Or what? Are you gonna tell your big strong handsome boyfriend to come to beat me up? Please don't tell him!" He teased again, acting like he was scared.
"No, because I can beat you up myself," She growled.
"Let's see you try. You know, I'm a firebending master now," Zuko said while summoning a small flame in his hand.
"HEY! No bending indoors!" The librarian scolded. Zuko immediately put out the flame and blushed slightly out of embarrassment, especially when Katara began laughing.
"Sorry…" He said in a low voice. He looked at Katara laughing hysterically and grew more embarrassed.
"Hey! Quit laughing!" Zuko exclaimed.
"oH I'M a fIRe bEnDinG MasTeR. Too bad fire is the worst element." Katara teased, mimicking Zuko's raspy voice. Zuko furrowed his eyebrows. Now Katara was really like a little sister to him because she could push his buttons too. Not nearly as much as Azula, but she did still push them.
"Fire is so much better than stupid wAteR," He fired back.
"How?" Katara asked.
"Imagine needing water nearby to bend? I can produce fire. I'm literally a walking sun!" He countered.
"But water can put out fire," Katara countered with a smirk.
"Whatever," Zuko replied, not trying to have a debate. Katara laughed, which put Zuko in a better mood. He stood up and put Katara in a harmless headlock and began giving her hair a noogie.
"You little shit," Zuko teased while giving her a noogie.
"Ah! Zuko! My hair you dumbass!" Katara scolded while trying to escape his headlock. Aang walked in and saw Zuko giving his girlfriend a noogie. He laughed and sat down next to her.
"Aang! Help me!" Katara asked while trying to escape Zuko's headlock. Aang laughed again. Zuko finally let go.
"You're so annoying Zuko," Katara growled while trying to fix her hair. Aang and Zuko laughed. Zuko sat back down while Aang tried to give a kiss on Katara's cheek, but she recoiled.
"No kisses for you young man." Katara teased.
"What? Why?" Aang pouted.
"Because I asked for your help and you laughed," She answered.
"It was funny, but I'm sorry I'll get Zuko back for doing that," Aang replied, making Katara smile.
"Fine," she replied, acting like she had to think about it first. Aang smiled and leaned in first a kiss, Katara accepted it and kissed him back. Zuko rolled his eyes and gagged.
"Ugh," He groaned. "Mai please get here soon," He thought. Aang and Katara stopped and laughed.
"That actually gives me an idea," Zuko thought out loud.
"Aang and I kissing gave you an idea?" Katara said with confusion.
"No, that made me wanna bang my head on a wall, but Aang saying he's gonna be back at me for giving you a noogie gave me an idea," Zuko answered, making Katara and Aang laugh.
"What's your idea?" Aang asked curiously.
"We could spar, I'm officially a master now so it'll be master vs master. I think it's perfect if you want to beat Azula," Zuko answered.
"That's a great idea!" Aang replied with excitement. However, Katara narrowed her eyes at her brother from another mother.
"If you hurt Aang I swear to the holy spirits I will end you," She growled. Zuko rolled his eyes but was kinda scared.
"He's gonna be fine, mom. He's a big boy he can handle himself," Zuko replied, earning an eye roll from Katara.
"When should we spar?" Aang asked, a little surprised about how serious Katara was about ending Zuko.
"Tomorrow, my uncle Iroh is going to Katara's house tomorrow for dinner. Iroh is retired and all he does is drink tea and play Pai Sho all day so he can make it." Zuko answered.
"Perfect! I can't wait!" Aang said with excitement.
"Plus, uncle is the greatest firebender in the world, he'll give you some pointers on how to beat Azula," Zuko replied.
"Greatest fire bender? How do you know that?" Katara asked curiously.
"He knows how to redirect lighting!" Zuko said proudly.
"He can do that? How? and can you generate lighting?" Aang asked curiously. He was super excited to meet uncle Iroh.
"He learned from studying waterbenders, and no I can't, not yet at least, but I know Azula can," Zuko answered.
"See? Waterbending is better than firebending," Katara teased, not realizing the last part of Zuko's sentence, but once she thought about it she realized it.
"WAIT! Azula can generate lighting? Aang you can't join that tournament!" Katara said in a really worried voice. Her motherly side took over.
"Don't wo-" Aang tried to tell her it was banned but she interrupted him.
"No! I'm not letting you join! If - if something happened to you I wouldn't be able to handle it, please, Aang, for me," She pleaded, super worried.
"Katara it's no-" Zuko started but Katara interrupted him too.
"Stay out of this Zuko!" She growled.
"Kata-" Aang started, but again he was interrupted.
"You're not joining and that's final," She said sternly while crossing her arms.
"Katara! Chill out and let us talk, you crazy! Lighting is strictly banned from the tournament and if she uses it then she can face jail time," Zuko said. Katara let out a sigh of relief,
"Really?" she asked, feeling so much better.
"Oh thank the spirits. Sorry for going crazy," She said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, you crackhead," Zuko joked, earning a laugh from Aang and an eye roll from Katara. The bell rang and they stood up.
"Alright, I'll see you two at lunch," Zuko said before walking to his first period. Aang and Katara nodded and walked towards pre-calc.
"I'm sorry again for going a little crazy on you. I was just really worried," She confessed. Aang chuckled and grabbed her hand and raised it to his mouth so he could kiss it.
"It's okay, it just proves how much you care," Aang replied, earning a smile from Katara. 1st and 2nd periods went by smoothly for the lovers. 3rd period, which was their P.E class, went by smoothly as well until Aang overheard a conversation in the boy's locker room. He was changing into his school clothes when he heard Hahn and his friend talking in the next row of lockers.
"So you got beat up by a girl, Chan?" Hahn asked.
"No! She did some weird shit with her hands and all of a sudden I couldn't feel my arms! She has to be a witch or something," Chan defended himself.
"Who's this girl again?" Hahn asked.
"Suki. She's with Sokka," Chan answered.
"Oh fuck that guy, I hate him," Hahn growled.
"Yeah, well at least his sister is fucking hot," Chan replied. "What's with these guys? How could they say that about anyone?" Aang thought with his temper rising.
"She's sexy as fuck. If she wasn't with Aang then I would definitely ask her out," Hahn said, earning a laugh from Chan.
"Bull fucking shit! She was single for the longest time and you never did anything!" Chan exclaimed.
"Shut the fuck up, I was just trying to find the right moment," Hahn said, annoyed.
"Yeah sureeeee, you're all talk, bro," Chan said sarcastically, rubbing Hahn the wrong way. Hahn smacked his teeth before talking.
"Bro, I can steal Katara away from Aang if I wanted to," Hahn said sternly, making Chan laugh hysterically.
"HA! That's priceless! You couldn't even get her when she's single, let alone when she's in a relationship. Plus, even if you did get her, you wouldn't even know what to do," Chan said after his laughter. "These guys are so rude, they see Katara as a prize rather than a person," Aang thought. His anger gradually got worse.
"You'll see, you fucking idiot. After I'm done stealing Katara away from Aang, I'm gonna fuck the shit out of her," Hahn said, earning more laugher from Chan. Aang blood was boiling.
"Bro, you're hilarious! What you're saying is impossible, Katara isn't that type of girl to cheat, BUT, having sex with her must be fucking amazing." Chan replied.
"Do you think they fucked already?" Hahn asked.
"Ehh, probably not. They've only been together for almost a month." Chan replied.
"Good, because I want to be the first to fuck her, and when I do she won't be able to walk," Hahn replied, making Chan laugh.
"What the hell, you creep? Are you into virgins? Fucking weirdo," Chan teased, but seriously.
"Shut the fuck up. That's not what I meant, I just want to rearrange her guts. Spirits man, I bet she's so tigh-," Hahn was cut off when Aang had enough.
"You're gonna regret you ever spoke," Aang said sternly, with his blood boiling. Hahn's heart dropped, and Chan was glad he didn't say much about Katara. "Ohhh, he's pissed," Chan thought while backing up. Hahn couldn't find the words to speak and glanced at Chan who had a slight smirk, he looked back at Aang and tried to act like he wasn't scared.
"I-I… what are you gonna do about it? huh?" He asked, trying to find the courage within him to stand up against Aang. It wasn't helping that Hahn was 5'10 and had to look up at Aang.
"Apologize right now," Aang growled.
"Why s-should I?" Hahn argued. Aang restrained himself from using his airbending to knock Hahn out. His pacifist side stopped him from doing so. Aang slowly walked up to him, never breaking eye contact, and glared at him.
"Apologize." He said in a tone that sent shivers down Hahn's spine. Hahn gulped and fought hard to keep his facade up. He had beads of sweat on his face and his legs were shaking slightly, but he would do anything to keep his facade up.
"N-no," He said. Aang looked at him and took in a deep breath to contain his anger. The bell rang and Hahn let out a sigh of relief.
"Alright, you had your chance," Aang said while turning around and walking away. Once he was out of the locker room, Hahn sat down on the bench and buried his face in his hands. Chan walked up to him and sat down next to him.
"Damn bro, you good?" Chan asked.
"Bro, I thought I was gonna die," Hahn confessed, earning a laugh from Chan.
"It's not funny!" Hahn exclaimed, super embarrassed.
"Aye man, I'm not blaming you. That guy is pretty built and he's a master airbender. He's not the guy to mess with, let alone try to steal his girl," Chan said. Hahn looked at him, sighed, and stood up.
"I guess your right, but I hope they break up so I could fuck the shit out of her," Hahn said with a fake chuckle.
"You never learn, do you? What if Aang is around that corner?" Chan asked, stopping Hahn in his tracks. Chan laughed at his scared look.
"We can talk about her like that when we know he's not around. Got it?" Chan said in a whisper. Hahn nodded and they walked out of the locker room.
Meanwhile, Aang walked out of the locker room in a huff. Once he left he saw Katara waiting for him and she noticed the angry look on his face. She frowned and grew worried.
"What's wrong, sweetie?" She asked in a gentle voice. Seeing and hearing Katara calmed his nerves greatly. He took a deep breath and spoke.
"Do you know Hahn and Chan?" He asked.
"I know of them. They're in this class, no?" Katara asked.
"Yes, and they were saying stuff about you that got me angry," Aang said. Katara's temper flared and grew much faster than Aang's.
"What did they say?" She asked while closing her hands in a fist. Aang looked at her and saw the angry look on her face, which gave him an idea.
"I have an idea," He said with a smirk.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Do you know what period Hahn has next?" He questioned.
"No," She replied.
"Damn, well, okay follow me," He said while grabbing her hand and walking towards the exit. He walked out of the building and turned the corner.
"Don't sit on the bench. I'll be right back," Aang said while going back inside.
"Wait! Wha-" She started, but Aang was already back in the building. Then she focused back on what Hahn said. "Ugh, why can't guys just shut up?! Stupid ass Hahn," She thought angrily. Aang came back out with On Ji.
"What's going on?" Katara asked, confused and a little jealous, but it quickly went away due to her anger at Hahn.
"You want to find out what Hahn said about you right?" Aang asked with a smirk.
"Yes, I want to give him a piece of my mind," Katara said fumed.
"Good, keep the lookout, On Ji," Aang said.
"I got you, Aang," She replied while going back inside.
"What's this about?" Katara asked, confused and angry.
"Just wait and get ready," Aang replied. On Ji saw Hahn walk out of the locker room and he yelled for his name.
"Hahn! Come over here!" She said, waving him down.
"Who's that?" Hahn asked Chan.
"I don't know, but she's pretty hot, go see what she wants," Chan whispered. Hahn smirked and nodded. He walked up to her and spoke in a flirty voice.
"Hey," is all he said. On Ji let out a fake giggle and smiled.
"Come with me," She said in a fake flirty voice.
"Hmm okay, what are you trynna do?" He asked nonchalantly.
"Come and find out," She said with a smirk while grabbing his hand and leading him outside. Once they were outside Hahn saw Katara and Aang glaring at him.
"Good luck!" On Ji said with a laugh and quickly shutting the door behind her. Hahn looked back at her and thought, "Shit… that fucking bitch," He looked back at Aang and Katara and gulped.
"Sit," Aang said sternly. Hahn looked at Katara and saw her eyebrow twitching, she was ten times angrier than Aang. "Fuck," Hahn thought while sitting down.
"Katara wants to know what you said. I haven't told her and I think it's best if you did," Aang said. He smirked when he saw Hahn shaking.
"I uhh I-I…" Hahn stammered nervously. His facade was breaking quickly.
"Tell me what you said," Katara snarled with her arms crossed.
"I-I…" He stammered. He couldn't find the words and seeing Katara's death glare wasn't helping. Aang looked at his girlfriend and noticed her left eyebrow twitching. "Oh man... this might be the angriest I've ever seen Katara," Aang thought.
"Tell me what you said, you coward!" She yelled while stomping her foot into the ground.
"I didn't say anything!" He lied, making Aang and Katara angier.
"Really? So you didn't say that you would 'fuck the shit out of her'," Aang asked. Hahn's heart dropped for the second time and now his facade was completely broken.
"ARGH! What else did you say?!" Katara yelled with her blood boiling. She clenched her fists and took a step forward. Hahn couldn't speak in fear and embarrassment.
"TELL ME NOW!" Katara yelled at the top of her lungs. Even Aang was slightly shaken. Hahn still couldn't speak.
"You're not gonna say anything?! You fucking coward! I knew you Northerners are just a bunch of bitches!" She yelled. Now Hahn loved his northern people, and his fear and embarrassment were getting taken over by anger.
"Don't say that about the North!" He fired back.
"It's true, you guys are stuck in the fucking past! Now tell me what you said, NOW!" She yelled again, sending shivers down Aang's and Hahn's spine.
"You southerners are just a bunch of apes! And you really want to know what I said? I said I'd fucking rearrange your guts!" He yelled while standing up. Katara reached her tipping point. She raised her hand to slap him, but Aang stopped her.
"Don't" He said, knowing it'll get Katara in trouble. They were already late to their 4th-period class. Katara looked back at Aang and let out a frustrated sigh "Let your anger go, Katara, like Aang does," She thought. She looked back at Hahn and saw a smug look on her face. She instantly tried to tackle him and beat the shit out of him, forgetting everything she told herself about letting her anger go. Aang bear-hugged her and started backing up.
"It's not worth it!" Aang exclaimed, trying to hold Katara back, but she was fighting with all her strength to free herself from her boyfriend's grip and beat Hahn up.
"I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!" She yelled. "Holy spirits she's strong," Aang thought while picking her up and turning around so he could leave.
"LET ME GO, HE DESERVES TO GET BEATEN UP!" She yelled at the top of her lungs while trying with all her strength to escape Aang's grip. "Okay maybe this wasn't the greatest idea," Aang thought.
"Katara! It's not wor-," He cut himself off once he lost grip and Katara fell to the ground. She instantly shot right back up and sprinted towards Hahn. "Oh shit," Hahn thought before turning around and running back into the school.
"GET BACK HERE YOU BITCH!" She yelled, she had superhuman speed and was a couple of feet from Hahn. "How is she so fast?!" He thought. He turned around because he knew he couldn't outrun her and braced himself by dropping onto the ground and protecting his face. Katara was inches from him and was about to unleash all her anger on him, but all of a sudden she felt a vacuum around her and was pulled back. Aang used his vacuum technique to pull her back into his arms. Katara was confused at first and was about to fight out of Aang's grip again, but she saw how Hahn was curled up in a little ball, shaking.
"Look how scared you are! Little bitch is scared of being beaten up by a girl!" Katara yelled, still very angry. Hahn lifted his head and got up quickly, wiping the dirt off of his face. He was about to defend himself, but he decided not to because he couldn't come up with a comeback. He quickly went back inside and hoped no one else saw him being so scared.
"HA! Run you pussy!" She yelled again. Hahn heard what she said through the doors. "I have to get the last word," He thought while opening the door for a second to yell.
"Bitch!" He yelled and then quickly shut the door and ran. Katara tried again to escape Aang's grip, but Aang learned from his mistakes and quickly got onto his air scooter and went to the football stadium.
"Let me at him!" She yelled.
"No, Katara, he's not worth it," Aang replied. A few moments later they arrived at the stadium and Aang took a seat at one of the bleachers. Aang let Katara go and she began pacing back and forth.
"I can't believe him! Argh! What's up with guys saying that shit about girls? It makes me so angry!" She fumed.
"Kata-" Aang was cut off and Katara began ranting.
"The disrespect guys have for girls is stupid! They speak to us like we're some object! Especially those northern scum!" She growled.
"Katara I-" He was cut off again.
"And he didn't even have the guts to apologize! He has no remorse or shame for his actions! You should have let me get at least one punch in. Ooooo! I would have made him cry!" She said while clenching her jaw and anger.
"Katara, take a deep breath," Aang said, trying to calm his girlfriend. Katara looked at him and sighed. She took a deep breath in… then let it out. She sat down next to him.
"It just makes me so angry." She said, calming her nerves.
"Yeah, what Hahn said pissed me off too," Aang replied.
"It's not just that, it's all guys! Jet was the same way and the other day Chan tried to touch Suki! Luckily she chi blocked him," Katara exclaimed. Aang just looked at her and tried to think of a way to make her smile.
"You're the exception," She said while putting a piece of her loose hair behind her ear. Aang studied her face and smiled a little. Her hair was messy because of all the commotion and she was a little sweaty due to her trying to beat Hahn up. Katara looked at him and saw his goofy crooked smile and she couldn't help but smile herself.
"What?" She asked.
"Nothing, I just like this messy hair look," He replied. Katara rolled her eyes and fought the smile that was creeping on her face.
"Aang, stop it. This isn't the time and lets me be angry," She said, earning a chuckle from Aang.
"Okay, okay, continue," Aang joked, motioning her to continue. Katara couldn't fight back the smile and it won.
"Well, now I can't be angry," She pouted, making Aang laugh again.
"That's good because you're pretty scary when you're angry," Aang said, making Katara blush slightly.
"I don't know why I get so mad. I mean… I know he's a sexist jerk, but I couldn't control myself," She confessed. Aang hesitated for a second, not knowing exactly what to say.
"I'm sorry I got so mad… I just realized I threatened to kill him," She confessed while picking some dirt out from underneath her fingernails. The dirt must have come from when she escaped Aang's grip and fell on the ground.
"It's okay. I know you weren't being serious," Aang said while examining her face.
"I mean…" She started.
"What? Are you for real Katara? You were going to kill him if I didn't stop you?" Aang said in disbelief. Katara noticed how surprised he was shifted her position so that her knees were facing towards him.
"No! No, no, no Aang. Let me explain," She said in a slight panic.
"I meant that if you didn't hold me back, I would probably do something I'd regret. Like really hurt him, but I'm not a murderer," She explained, relieving Aang.
"Oh...okay…" Is all he could say. Katara looked at his face and saw the slight frown he had. She buried her face in her hands and groaned.
"I know, something's wrong with me," She thought out loud. Aang gently removed her hands from her face and spoke.
"Katara, it's okay, I was really angry too," He comforted.
"But you're so cool, calm, and collected. And I lose control when I get angry… ugh I need to change," She vented.
"No, Katara," Aang said sternly. Katara looked at her boyfriend with a confused look.
"What do you mean 'no?' I know Hahn is a sexist jerk but the way I reacted and handled things was not right," She replied.
"I know, and I agree, but I have a feeling you want to get rid of your anger altogether," Aang said while placing his hand on hers.
"Is that not the goal?" Katara asked curiously.
"No, the goal is to control your anger, not get rid of it," Aang answered.
"So how do I do that?" She asked.
"Your anger stems from your passion, Katara. You're extremely passionate about the things you believe, which is sexy might I add," He said with a smirk, hoping to lighten up the mood. Katara rolled her eyes and blushed.
"You're passionate about equality, tennis, swimming, but most importantly, you're passionate about justice," Aang explained, earning a smile from Katara.
"That's true…," She trailed off.
"So what I'm saying is; don't lose your fiery, your passion, because it's who you are," Aang said while interlocking fingers with hers.
"Okay, I won't, but how do I control my anger?" She asked curiously.
"By using that anger to fuel your passions healthily. Use it to fuel you in sports or, better yet, use it to fight for other people who went through similar events as you. Fight for the people who don't have the fiery and passion like you do," Aang explained. Katara took a moment to process all his words.
"That's… that's a great idea, Aang. This school has a problem and I'm going to fix it," She said in a determined voice. Aang smiled at his girlfriend's newfound determination.
"That's what I like to hear, and I'll help you in any way I can," Aang said.
"It's not going to happen overnight, and I know I'm not going to be able to flip the switch on channeling my anger into my passions," She thought out loud.
"Maybe you should meditate, and yeah, I know I know, it sounds boring, but I really want you to try it out," Aang said with a smile.
"Let's give it a shot, I really want to control my anger and I'll do whatever it takes," She replied, making Aang really happy.
"Awesome! We'll try it out Sunday, after… you know," Aang said with a slight blush.
"That sounds perfect," She said while snuggling into his arm.
"So… how do you feel?" Aang asked.
"A lot better now, but my voice kinda hurts," She answered.
"Good, and I'll get you some water when we go back to the school," Aang replied. Katara's eyes widened.
"Wait! Aang we're supposed to be in school!" She exclaimed.
"Oh yeah, huh? We should get going," Aang said with a chuckle. They both got up and went back to school.
