The A to Z of Friends
#017 - Quotient
The others quickly learnt that having Kira and Athrun on the same team for combat games like Capture the Flag was overkill.
Athrun, they'd expected. It was no secret he was the son of a high ranking ZAFT officer, after all. Kira, though, caught people by surprise. He was smart, but he was also, spacy, and a bit of a ditz sometimes. He'd be off in the clouds or in his programming or tinkering with Athrun's mass of robots, or soaking up the sun. But those were thoughts from people who didn't know him that well.
They didn't know he had laser focus when it came to prioritising and protecting. They didn't know that constant moves had taught him more than how to fit in and make superficial friends. They didn't know (and neither did he, to be fair) that he'd go on to become an Ensign, then a defector, then a war hero and legendary Gundam pilot several times over.
They knew he and Athrun made a lethal combination though, even if they couldn't quite work out why. Some of them put it down to them being the smartest of their year group. Some put it down to their friendship. Some put it down to genes, which was off-putting to some of the other coordinator children, but they were all children in the end, looking at the world with tinted glasses.
And when pitted against each other, they were near equal and stubborn until the end of the game.
