Chapter 26
Spike sat in the office with Angel feeling down about losing his wife. Derek stayed with him in the apartment so he wouldn't have to be there alone. Harmony came in the office feeling bad for him. Spike looked at her a moment then looked away. Without her, nothing else seemed to matter anymore. "I was thinking of leaving." Spike spoke.
"Leaving why?" Angel asked him.
"I've done the whole protecting the world thing for so long,"
Angel sighed at that understanding what he had meant. "There is a lot going on here, I need you." Angel couldn't believe he would ever say that.
"I have spent my nights crying and mourning over her. No matter how much I want to believe it makes me feel any better it doesn't. The pain is still there, I just want her back," Spike said breaking down crying.
"Spike it takes time." Angel came up to him trying to be comforting.
Derek came in bursting the doors open seeing Angel trying to comfort Spike. "Guys, something happen, I went by my sister's grave and there was a hole in the ground. I flashed my light in there to look down further I couldn't see anything. I need one of you to find out what happened." Derek said worried.
"What do you mean something happened?" Spike stood up.
"I found this on the ground." Derek handed the book to Angel. Spike recognized it to be a spell book that was similar to what Willow would use.
"It's almost dark soon, we can go check it out," Angel said looking at the clock.
They waited for it to get darker until they left. Derek lead them to her grave showing them the hole in the ground. Spike jumped down into the hole seeing her casket broken off the top. Her body was missing leaving the casket empty. He climbed out a little in shock.
"She's missing," Spike stood up.
Angel was on the phone with someone briefly then hanging up. "There is some activity going on not too far from here." Angel said leading them to an old building outside the city. They spotted military cars parked close by.
"Great, pretty boy is here," Spike said annoyed.
Derek walked out front towards the guys standing outside. "Hey is Riley here?" He asked them.
The guys had recognized him knowing he was a friend of Riley's. The guys let him in leading him in the building to Riley. Riley looked up at him seeing Derek walking towards him. "Hey stranger," Riley saw him.
A girl walked up to him with her dark hair and blue eyes pulled back into a pony tail dress in military gear. She was a spitting image of his sister causing him to blink a couple of times. "New girl?" Derek questioned him.
"Yeah," Riley answered him.
Both Angel and Spike walked in a little after Derek seeing him talking to Riley. Spike had a weird feeling seeing the girl standing there off to the side. She turned around to face him and he noticed how much like his wife that she resembled.
"You are?" She asked him.
"Spike." He studied her watching her every move.
"Hey." Riley came in between them.
Spike shoved him not wanting him anywhere near him. "I suggest you keep your distance."
"What the hell is your problem?" Riley got up into his face.
Leah remembered who's he was but not anyone else in the room. She went in between them trying to break them up. Spike's face changed into his vampire form. This all seemed so familiar to her still not able to figure out why. "Vampire." she looked at Spike.
"Come on sweetheart, you think you can take me?" Spike challenged her.
"Spike." Angel said irritated.
Her went towards her and she punched him across the face. He got up trying to hit her back and she blocked him kicking him hard enough to fly a few feet into the wall. That was enough to convince himself that she was his wife. His face turned to normal not sure what to think seeing she was alive. "It's her," Spike said figuring it out.
"What do you mean it's her?" Angel looked at him.
"It explains bloody everything, spell book, grave torn up," Spike said looked at her.
"What did you do to her?" Derek grabbed Riley shoving him against the wall.
"Nothing, I found her last night. I didn't know she died, she doesn't remember who I am or any of you," Riley answered him.
Derek let him go in shock seeing she was even there. "She's leaving with us," Derek said angry. He took her hand leading her out of where they were. They went to Angel's apartment having her sit down on the couch. Spike looked at her with almost tears in his eyes not sure to hug her or what to do. This has happened once before with Buffy being gone then brought back.
"You don't remember me do you?" Spike asked her.
"No, you were going going to kill me." She said remember fighting him.
Spike hated that she lost her memory. "No, I wasn't."
"I'm Derek your brother," Derek looked at her.
"I have a sibling." She looked down noticing the white gold band on her left ring finger. She tried remembering what it was for but nothing seemed to come to mind.
"I'm Angel," he knelt down at her level.
"What this ring for?" She asked him.
"You married him," Derek looked at Spike.
Derek left her and Spike alone having Angel walk with him to talk.
"I guess I had a thing for vampires," she looked at Spike.
"Can you remember anything," Spike sat close to her.
"I woke up trapped in a coffin. I broke it to get out realizing I was six feet under. Riley found and brought me to his place making sure I was ok. Leah noticed the same ring on Spike's finger trying to put the pieces together. Spike held her hand looking into her eyes thankful she was ok.
"I'm tired, I need to rest," she said getting up. Angel guided her to the guest bedroom to rest. Her brother brought her some clothes of hers putting them in the room with her.
Spike sat there with tears coming out of his eyes. He wiped them before the guys sat down in front of them. "We are just going to have to be there for her." Angel sat down.
"She's not herself, she seems like she's confused," Spike said worried.
"Hopefully her memory will come back." Derek said sitting with them.
"Spike," he heard her voice. He got up going into the room.
"What is it?" He sat on the bed.
"Will you lay next to me? You always did that right?" She asked him.
"Yes, I have." Spike got on the bed lying next to her wrapping his arms around her lying next to her. He kissed the top of her head as she fell asleep while he held her. He was surprised that she remembered that giving him hope that her memory was slowly returning.
The next morning, Spike opened his eyes seeing her looking down at him while they laid there. She leaned in kissing him deeply like she always did. He kissed her back hoping she had her memory back. "Morning," she pulled back.
"Morning love," He looked at her.
"Sorry, I thought since we were together I gave you a morning kiss." His arms were around her.
"Yes," he looked at her being patient with her.
"You are a good kisser." He smiled at her looking at her before getting up. She got up taking a shower getting dressed. Derek made sure he brought over all of her usual stuff. Spike went out front waiting on her to get dressed. She came out dressed in a black dress pants a nice red sleeveless shirt. Her make up was on with her hair down, Spike walked up to her kissing her hand. "You look beautiful."
"I'm scared, not knowing where I am or why I'm here." She said unsure.
"I'll be right here I promise," Spike assured her.
"Is it weird that I find you really good looking. I mean you're charming and well kind of have that whole accent thing." Spike smiled at that appreciating her saying that.
"Thanks love," Spike kissed her cheek.
This was starting to get to him knowing she couldn't remember anything. It was like she was there but not completely.
Leah started seeing bits and pieces come together but not completely. "You weren't from this time were you?"
"Late eighteen hundreds, I've adapted quite well since my time." He noticed she looked a little nervous around him. It was new to him knowing she never was like this before.
She got up heading out the door. Spike watched her getting up making sure she wouldn't just leave the building. "Why are you following me?"
"It's my job to watch over you." Spike wasn't going to lose her again this time. Even if it took everything he had left. She had saved him more than one occasion. In this case she was worth fighting for after what she had done for him.
"More like a pain in my ass." She went out of Angel's apartment and Spike continued to follow her. He had the ring from Angel putting it on just in case she would to try to leave.
She saw Angel coming to check on her. "Angel he is annoying me," Leah looked at him.
"Spike, what are you doing?"
"Watching over her."
"Like a puppy dog," She argued.
"Just let her go," Angel said calmly. Leah went past Angel going down to the basement.
"Last time I did that she ended up dead," Spike shoved him out of the way. He saw her in the basement and she swung at him punching him across the face.
"If you're really that eager then kill me," She challenged him.
"No."
"Just do it please, I was in a much better place before I came here." She dropped to the ground crying not sure what to do. Spike sat next to her seeing her feeling nothing but hopeless with tears in her eyes. "I was in heaven, happy knowing everyone was ok. Then I get sucked out of it ending up here." She looked at him. That all sounded familiar to him, it was the same thing Buffy had said to him years back.
Spike pulled her in his arms hugging her as she cried. Leah pulled back looking at him wiping her tears. She leaned in kissing him wanting to feel like what it was to kissed. He stopped not allowing things to go any further at this point. "What? Have we gone further than kissing?" She asked him.
"Yes we have, just not now," Spike said staying in control. He wanted things to go further but he knew he couldn't do that to her knowing she wouldn't remember. It reminded him of the things he had done in the past. Even when he drugged women and had sex with him was something he didn't want to be reminded of. To him it would feel the same way knowing the circumstances.
She laid her head on his chest, he wrapped his arms around her holding her. "Just don't leave me." She spoke.
"I never have and I never will." He said holding on to her.
The light flipped on seeing her brother and Riley coming down the steps. Spike let her go standing up. "What the hell is he doing here?" Spike looked at Derek.
"He wanted to know how Leah was."
"She's not your concern," Spike said not too excited to see him.
"She is my concern." Riley went to get in his face and Derek got in front keeping them from fighting.
"Riley I'm fine. Spike isn't going to let anything happen to me." Leah assured him.
"You sure about that?"
"Riley, if he decided to go on attack mode I'll let you know. Now please just let him handle it, he's capable of handling me, vampire means stronger because I'm a slayer I think." Leah said trying to remember.
"You're saying I can't protect you?" Riley asked her.
"I'm not saying that, otherwise I would have said it already." Spike looked at her then back at Riley. Derek lead him out before they both had the chance to kill each other.
"You are right about that." Spike replied.
"I mean he's not a slayer or vampire humans aren't that strong like you." Leah tried guessing.
"Or good looking." Spike added. She chuckled a little at that.
"Conceited much?"
Spike smiled at that a little. "He wouldn't stand a chance if it all came down to it love."
They both went upstairs into Angel's office. Leah sat there kinda of remembering his office a little. Both men were talking while she laid on his couch dozing off. Spike looked back seeing she was asleep on the couch.
"She's fine just leave her, I don't have any meetings today." Angel said letting her lay there.
"I almost wonder how much longer she will be like this." Spike said worried.
"Temporary, they used the spell to bring her back. Sometimes memory loss can effect you everyone is different," Derek answered Spike.
"It is her?" Spike questioned him
"Yes, but she's suffering from the effects," Derek explained.
Leah awoke with a headache. "Anyone got any pain relievers?" She asked sitting up.
Derek sat next to her handing her an aspirin. "You ok?"
"My head hurts, I feel like I got my head slammed into a door."
Leah laid her head on her Derek hating the headache she was having. She stayed with her brother and Angel while Spike went out by the graveyard doing a quick patrol. "You again." Spike heard a familiar voice.
He turned around seeing Faith walking up to him. "What is it?"
"Nothing, where's Leah?" She asked him.
"Not well, I'm out tonight. Not like you give a damn." Spike puffed his cigarette.
"Yer right I don't." Faith punched Spike across the face and Spike blocked her second hit.
"Feisty aren't you?" Spike tripped her. Faith went to go after him and Leah noticed what was happening punching her across the face.
"Will you knock it off?" Leah said annoyed with her. "You ok?"
"Fine." Spike said wiping the blood off his mouth.
"Just remembered your hits are harder," Faith said with her jaw hurting a little.
Leah stood there with her arms folded "Good don't forget it, mess with him again and I'll have to kick your ass."
Spike was a little surprised seeing her standing there feeling ok. "What's your purpose being here anyway?" He questioned Faith.
"Angel figured you might all need help." Leah looked at Spike then back at her.
"More likely seeing that we could use any extra help we could get," Angel appeared behind them.
Leah noticed the grave that she came out of was now being used for someone else. She walked away from them a moment looking at it reading a different person's name on it. "I know what it's like waking up in a coffin," Spike stood next to her.
"Yet I'm brought back here which is hell," Leah said walking away from him.
