Harry, Remus and Sirius appeared after a rather uncomfortable apparation, not that it wasn't always uncomfortable. As soon as Harry opened his eyes which he had kept closed during the apparation, he was looking straight at a gate, a rather large gate too. On it was displayed the Potter Crest, so this only confirmed that they were at the right place. Harry looked past the gate, and felt his mouth open and his eyes open fully. Beyond that gate was a huge mansion, built in stone and bricks. It had an unusual shape to it, but Harry had never seen a building as nice, well except Hogwarts perhaps, but he didn't count that as it was a castle. The roof also had various heights and sizes, some circular for the towers, others perfectly fitting the rest of the building.
Before Harry could look at the building any more, a small pop was heard in front of the gate. Harry looked around, but he didn't see anything. Only when he looked down did he see the reason for the noise. A small creature with pointed ears and tennis ball sized eyes was standing in front of him. It had lightning blue eyes, ears the size of half its body, and a long nose. It was dressed with what appeared to be a white tea towel, one which seemed to be of very good quality, and on it was the Potter Crest.
"What is you's be doing here ? This is the property of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Potter, and my master has not told us you would be coming." The little house elf said.
"Hello there friend, I was just wondering if I could enter my home, I'm Harry Potter by the way." Harry said, he knew the elf would be shocked, not because of his fame, but because he was actually there. He turned out to be correct, and the elf immediately began bowing, its nose touching the floor.
"Forgive me master, I's did not know master be coming" the elf squeaked lifting its head enough so it could look at him.
"Don't worry about it. What is your name ?" Harry asked politely, he wanted to treat his elves correctly, and not mistreat them. He had heard that some families mistreated theirs, all because the elves couldn't refuse their master. So Harry vowed to never hurt his.
"I is Veppy, the Head-Elf of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Potter, sir." The elf said with great pride in her voice.
"Nice to meet you Veppy, these two are Sirius Black, Lord of the Ancient and Noble House of Black, and Remus Lupin. Could you open the gates please, we would like to visit." Harry said with a smile in the elf's direction.
"Of course master, just place your hand on the crest, and it will grant you entrance" the elf said mentioning towards the crest on the gate. Harry nodded, moved forward and pushed his hand to the Crest. He felt a slight sting in his hand, he guessed that it was taking some blood to make sure he was a Potter, and a few seconds later, the gate opened.
"Welcome to Potter Manor, Lord Potter" the elf said with a deep bow, mentioning for them to cross the threshold. The three of them did exactly that. They were walking on a rather well-kept path that led to the manor, there were trees on both sides of the path, just enough to both let the light in, and keep the place hidden. As Harry approached, he noticed just how big the place was. It seemed to stretch on forever, and he had seen parts which he couldn't see previously. He wasn't sure, but he thought he caught a faint glance at a hoop which could only belong on a Quidditch pitch. He wanted to be on the team the next year, but if he didn't have time to train as well, he would have to cancel his plans.
They reached the point of the path where the trees were spread out further from each other, and Harry couldn't stop admiring the building, and to think that that building was his was a pleasant shock to him. As they reached the end of the path, the three men stopped to admire it. Sirius had been there before, when he had run away from his previous home, yet he was still staring st it in awe. The Black family didn't use their mansion, it had been destroyed in the war with Grindelwald, and it hadn't been fixed up since.
"Are you's coming? " Veppy asked, confused as to why they had stopped. Harry didn't think he would ever get used to living here, it was just unthinkable for him, he wouldn't have believed you if you had told him a year ago that he owned this, he was just a 'Freak' back then, things had changed a lot. The Dursleys' would have treated him better if they had been able to live here, Harry thought.
The three of them walked up to the door, and as they did, it opened by itself. They climbed the steps leading into the house, and Harry was I awe over the grandiose hall. The walls were all panelled in a rich dark wood, and then a cost of white above to maintain the light, the floor was a nicely polished brown marble floor. Paintings adorned all the walls, but it wasn't overwhelming, it was the perfect amount. A large chandelier was dangling from the ceiling, there were to sets of steps leading to the upstairs in a circular fashion. On the left was a big room which contained a large table that seemed like it would be able to sit around 30 people, and on the right was a room which contained more sofas than Harry had seen in a shop. Harry guessed that this house used to greet quite a lot of people. One thing Harry hadn't noticed until this point however, was the fact that there were another 6 house elves standing between the two sets of stairs, all of them adorning tea towels with the Potter Crest.
As soon as he laid eyes on them, they all bowed deeply, some of their noses touching the floor. After a few seconds, they lifted their heads back up, and looked at him with huge smiles plastered on their faces. "Master Potter, these be the rest of your House-Elves. We live to serve you and your family." Again they all bowed.
"This right here to the left is Ula, she is the head-chef, she will prepare all your menus, if you have any allergies, Ula will know, and will never gives you something that might brings you harm. Next we have Boper, he is the main housekeeper, should you require something happening, he will do it. Afterwards, we's have Minny and Penny, they is both housekeepers too, you can also talk to them about things you's be needing. Then we gots Tiz, he be taking care of the animals in the stables, and finally we's have Ola, she is in the kitchens with Ula." Veppy stated.
"Welcome to Potter Manor, Master Potter" they all said together. Harry was shocked that he had so many people who served him, not that he would treat them as servants, but it was still shocking.
"It's nice to meet you all, these two are my family, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black, Lord of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black." Harry said looking at the elves with a smile. They all bowed in response to what Harry said, and Sirius and Remus bowed back politely.
"Could you give us a tour please Veppy, and while we do that, could we have dinner prepared please, something not too heavy please? " Harry asked. They all chanted 'Yes Master' before disappearing, not giving him a chance to thank them, well all of them except for Veppy. She led the way to the room to the left.
"This be the formal dining room, it is here where we's hold any meetings, or if needed, a dinner table if there are a lot of peoples. Through that door, " she said pointing at a door Harry hadn't noticed before, "is the informal dining room, but if you's wish to eat in here, it can be done."
"That won't be necessary Veppy, I'm sure the informal one will do." Harry said. Veppy nodded at this, and led the way to the door. She pushed it open using her elf magic, and Harry, Sirius and Remus walked in. Inside was more pleasant than the other room, you could tell this wasn't meant for business, yet it was still kept very clean and fitting for a house of this stature. There were a few paintings lined around the walls, light flooded through the windows, yet it was beginning to get dark, so Veppy turned on the chandelier. The table in this room could seat 8 people comfortably, which Harry guessed would be enough, and if not, well the other room would definitely do, it's not like he imagined more than 30 people being in his house at the same time.
"To the rights, we has the kitchen, and through that door, " she said pointing at the door in front of them, "is the barroom. It be used for events with friends, and attached to it be the ballroom, which hasn't been used since old Master Charlus' wedding." She said that last bit a little sadly, obviously Charlus had been someone whom she appreciated immensely. She led them through into the barroom, where they found quite a lively space. There were a few sofas, a pool table, a card table, and a baby foot table. The bar seemed to be well stocked up, and well-kept. In here, compared to the rest of the house, the walls were fully white, and the floor a nice oak wood floor, which complimented nicely the bar. There was what appeared to be the wizard version of a disco ball, which would be quite neat should he decide to invite his friends over for a party. Maybe he would do one for his birthday.
Veppy continued on with her tour, leading them to the ballroom. As soon as the door opened, Harry could tell that it was a very big room, possibly near the size of the Great Hall. The ceiling had a charm placed upon it which lit the whole room up, it was as if the charm on the Great Hall always showed day time. At the far end of the room, was a stage, and in front it was a big platform which Harry guessed was the area where everyone danced. To this side of the room, there were tables with rather comfortable looking chairs around them, and against the wall where he guessed the kitchen sat behind, was a table which appeared to be an area to place any sort of drinks or snacks.
"In here you can invite many people without giving them the location of the Manor, it be fit with a charm which will dissuade anyone who doesn't know the location to not go through any of the doors. So if you wish to hold a big event without peoples knowing where we's be, you still can." The elf said proudly, he obviously worshipped the Potter family for their work on this place. "Come, over here be the library." This was a room Harry wanted to see, because not only would it help him with his training, but he also knew that Hermione would probably really want to see it, so hopefully that would be a good enough reason for her parents to let her come for his birthday
As they walked through the door leading into the library, Harry stood there in shock, as did Remus and Sirius. The fact that Sirius stopped too, told Harry that he didn't spend much time reading, and when he was here all those years ago, he didn't do much reading either. There seemed to be thousands of books, and some of them, Harry knew weren't in the library at Hogwarts, and that was just going by their names.
"The Potter Grimoire be located in the back of the library. It be placed in the Vault which is kept here, only you and any official Potter family members can access it. It contains all your family spells, history and some business investments that not be done with Gringott's. We not be sure how much gold is in there, but we's guess there be quite a bit." Harry was surprised at this, he had assumed that his family was already extremely wealthy, and now he found out he was even more so. But then a confused expression appeared on Harry's face. 'Why would they keep money here instead of in Gringott's? ' Harry thought.
Sirius seemed to have guessed what Harry was thinking, because he shortly answered. "Old families tend to have a vault in their ancestral homes because they were scared that the goblins would turn on them, and they didn't want to be left with nothing. The Black family have the same, although most of our gold is kept there, my ancestors never did trust the goblins, probably because they didn't treat them with respect, so they were treated as equally badly. The Potters' were generally nice with them, but there will be a lot of money in there which has been there for generations, back when a few generations of Potters' had turned dark, which is one of the main reasons your family is considered grey. They were already grey, but before you came along, it would have taken quite a lot for your family to be considered light again. They tortured muggles and wizards alike, much like Death Eaters, it was a dark time for the Potter family." Sirius said.
Harry was completely shocked at this revelation, he had never imagined that his ancestors were like that. Sure they were quite a few generations back, but it was still in his family. He decided that he would visit the Vault tomorrow, today he needed an early night.
"Over here be the informal sitting room. Here be the place where Mistress Lily spent a lot of time. She would grab a book from the library and sit in from of the fire. She claimed that it was a calm part of the house, and that the fire was relaxing to her. She used to read to you's master there when you were small" Veppy said, tears in her eyes.
Flashback
He was really warm and comfortable, he wasn't sleeping, but he was getting very sleepy. In the background, he could hear the light crackling if the fire, and a little louder than that, he could hear a voice, her voice, looking down at him with her emerald green eyes, eyes which carried so much love in them, eyes which conveyed just how much he meant to her. She was smiling down at him, talking to him.
"One day, I hope, when this war is finished, we'll go to the Mediterranean Sea, we'll go for long walks on the beach, while your dad messes around with Moony, Padfoot and Wormtail, probably doing a water fight. We'll be able to go swimming together, not in the deep waters, but we can go for a small paddle. I want you to live in a time of peace, without a war, I want you to be able to walk around without having to worry about yourself or your friends. You'll be able to be a proper teenager, live a nice normal life, find someone who you love, and who loves you in return, spend as much time with your friends as you want, play pranks on people, although don't tell your dad I told you that, I'd never hear the end of it." she said with a chuckle. "There was a prophecy made about you sweetheart, apparently you're the one to defeat him, I know it's a lot of responsibility, but I know you'll be able to do it, you started accidental magic long before any other person I know, even Dumbledore, and that is quite the feat. I hope I'll be there with you on your path, but if I'm not, I want you to know that I love you so much, you and your father mean the world to me, and I know you mean the world to him too. We're going to move out of here, apparently You-Know-Who has learned of the location of the house, so we are going somewhere where we can apply the Fidelius Charm, this place is too big for that." At this point Harry heard a voice, and the memory began to get all muffled
End of Flashback
"Are you okay Pup' ?" Sirius asked, a worried look plastered on his face, kneeling in front of the boy, Remus just behind him with an equally worried look.
"I- I remember her talking to me, just there" Harry said pointing to where he was in the memory, "it was just before they left for Godric's Hollow. She was telling me about the future she would like, she wanted to go to the Mediterranean, and we never got to go" Harry felt tears flowing down his cheeks at this, that was one of the only memories he had of his parents, the other was a flash of green light. Sirius embraced the boy in a hug, not saying anything, because he knew all too well the pain that could come from that sort of thing, he had suffered it too.
"Sorrys for bringing it up Master, I was just thinking it be nice to share a story" the elf said, seemingly disappointed with himself.
"No need to apologise Veppy, it was nice" Harry said smiling at the elf. Now let's finish the tour, I'm getting rather tired." Harry said, eliciting a nod from Veppy. They walked through another door, which led into the formal sitting room. It was probably as large as the formal dining room, except this one had sofas, and other sorts of seemingly comfortable seats. This room was equally as neutral as the dining room, nothing too personal.
As they finished, there was a small pop, and Harry noticed another elf, an elf with a chef's hat on, Ula if Harry remembered correctly. "Dinner be ready master, it will be served in the informal dining room in 5 minutes." She said, before popping off again. The three men thanked Veppy for the tour, and headed towards the dining room, they were hungry.
A/N: Thank you for the reviews, I appreciate each of them lots. I hope you like the way I designed the house, I haven't shown the upstairs yet, you'll see that in the next chapter.
Replies:
I'd love to tell you what I mean by Malfoy getting what he deserves, but that is something for later on, and no, it's not the ferret incident, although there might be something similar in the future.
I didn't have a particular address for the House, that's why it wasn't very specific, however if you want me to put in an address, let me know.
