Nya POV: As we got closer to the warehouse I started to get nervous. I saw a hole in the roof and wondered if they fell through it. We slowed down and sneaked in. There was barely anything in the warehouse, and it was weirdly quiet.
"Is anyone else concerned about this?" Jay whispered, keeping a hand on his nun-chucks.
"Yes. did you have a location on them Zane?" Cole answered, also whispering and keeping a hand on his weapon.
"One second. … their downstairs, in a hidden room. But something is off." Zane responded. That made me nervous.
"What do you mean?" Cole answered.
"Two of them are not moving that much, like they were injured." Zane answered.
"That could explain the hole in the roof." Jay said, and he noticed me shaking.
I really hope that Kai is alright.
"Not exactly. But close." Someone said.
We turned fast and brought out our weapons. A woman walked out of the shadows, unfazed by us. She looked exactly like the woman that Sunami described.
"So, you're Meri." I said.
She seemed surprised, then she realized and said, "Richards talked to you."
"And he told us what happened. Do you really think this is the best way to go? Hurting innocent people?" Cole said.
She sighed and responded, "The innocent people part I didn't know about until a couple hours." that surprised me.
"So your partner, Var, is targeting the general population behind your back." I said, causing her to look at me.
"Apparently. But not anymore." she answered, pulling out her sword. It was the same as the swords that were stolen.
As she started to get closer we prepared ourselves. However, she turned the blade so that the handle was pointed to us.
"What?" I asked, really confused.
"I'm done being Var's puppet. I'll take you to your friends and help you take down Var." She answered, letting Zane take the sword. "But he'll be back soon, so we have to hurry."
Then they all raced down the halls and towards the basement. Meri took us to a large room with a cage in the middle. Lloyd was holding Sunami in his arms and Kai was lying on his side unconscious. When he saw us he said, "Guys, you're here!"
I was thankful that Kai was just unconscious until we got closer. Sunami was having some trouble breathing and both her and Kai had black vein-like markings on them. They were both infected.
"What happened?" I demanded from Meri.
"Var attacked them both. I didn't want to, and tried to convince him not to. But he's more uncontrollable than I thought. I'm sorry." she answered calmly. It sounded like she was telling the truth.
She quickly opened the cage and me and Zane got to work. Zane took care of Sunami while I checked on Kai. He was out cold and the vein pulsed with the heartbeat, with those two things and the fact that he was breathing heavy and being pale was very concerning. I used my water powers to try and keep him cool and looked up at Sunami, Zane, and Lloyd. She was awake, but barely, and letting Zane check her arm wound, which was oozing black stuff from the veins that were open. I could barely look at it and just looked back at Kai. His breathing was better now that he was cooler, but I was still concerned. Jay and Cole were talking to Meri, probably getting some information from her until the intercom speaker turned on.
"Meri! Where are you?! Meet me on the floor immediately!" a man, probably Var, yelled then turned off the speaker.
Meri looked slightly frightened and cracked her knuckles in response.
"Does Var know we're here?" Jay asked.
"No, there aren't any cameras down here." She answered. No one talked until she spoke up again and said, "I can distract him for you and you all can take him down."
"That's a good idea, but how strong is he?" Lloyd asked, standing up and walking up to her.
"Strong enough. I would suggest bringing everyone." she answered.
That statement caused me to look at Kai. I didn't want to leave him here in this condition. I noticed that Lloyd also looked at Sunami, who also took notice of this as well and looked away.
"Leaving them here would be a mistake." Zane said, wrapping up Sunami's arm again.
"Fighting Var without everything we have would also be a mistake too, trust me." Meri said, crossing her arms.
We went quiet again. I know that Kai would want us to stop Var, but in this state…
"We'll be fine. I'll make sure of that." Sunami said, looking right at Lloyd.
"Sunami, you're in no shape to fight." Lloyd responded.
"Var is the only threat, and unlike Kai I'm awake and able to move around. Just focus on him and leave the rest to me." she said.
"And if something were to happen?" he responded.
"I'll handle it. You need to focus on Var right now. And I managed to survive for years in the Sands, I think I can handle a sick friend." Sunami smiled at the last statement.
Lloyd paused and then nodded and said, "Just be safe."
"You too." she said back.
He then walked up to Zane, took the Cursed Blade, walked up to Meri, and handed the blade back to her.
"What are you doing?" Meri asked, confused.
"Like you said, fighting Var without everything we have would be a mistake. And you already helped us by getting Sunami and Kai the help they needed. Just don't make us regret this, okay?" he answered.
Meri nodded and took the blade. I really hope we don't regret this.
