Chapter Twenty-Six: Vanessa's father & Ben's capture
"Wine anyone?" Hades asked "I think I got one somewhere around here."
He went into what looked like the kitchen area and rummaged through the cabinets and crates.
"You said that I'm just like my mother. How did you know my mother?" Vanessa asked
"You're telling me that the so-called King and Queen of Auradon didn't tell you anything?" Hades said and let out another laugh. "Not surprised. Ah, here you are. Pain!" Found the bottle of wine and called for the imp.
The red chubby imp came running in with three wine glasses. He handed both Hunter and Vanessa a glass.
"What do you mean?" She asked
Hades opened the bottle and started pouring.
"Well...I'm your godfather." He said as he sat down on his couch.
"My what? Her what?" Vanessa and Hunter said together.
The god took a sip of his wine and let out another chuckle.
"Yup. Your dad was a good friend of mine. Sadly I was sent here before you were born. Manage the headlines, 'The Girl who lived godfather Hades: God of the Underworld.' Actually that sounds very chachy." Hade smirked "But maybe a scandal towards them for harboring a villain godchild. Or worse, a criminal's child."
This made Vanessa sit up straight.
"What do you mean?" She asked
Hades was about to take another sip but stopped and looked at her with a brow raised.
"Wow, they really didn't tell you anything huh." Hade said "Not even about your dad?"
"I always thought he was dead." She said
Hades shook his head and took a gulp of his drink.
"He's not dead. Well...he is undead but still around." Hades mentioned "Actually he's closer than you think." He got up and looked at the tunnel that was connected to the prison. "From what I hear this isn't your first time on the Isle."
"Yes." She said
"Did you ever come across a lone tower that had a barrier around it as well? With creatures that you know as Demetors." He asked
It took her awhile but she did remember that day. She remembered how she felt like someone was calling her to the tower.
"He's here. W-Why? What did he do to be placed here?" Vanessa asked, standing up.
"I shouldn't be the one to tell the story." Hades said and looked over towards the two. "But I could take you to the very person that can. If you want."
She had to admit that she was very curious, even after last time. Could it be possible that her father was alive after all this time. Was her father here, on the Isle.
"Dad, you can't take her there with those things guarding the tower." Hunter said in worry as he stood up.
"Not if they have something to chase after." Hades smirked
He pointed towards Pain and Panic who tried to get away.
"Don't even try it." He warned
The two imp gulped in fear.
Wanting to know the truth Vanessa decided to go. Hades grabbed a lantern for himself while dragging Pain and Panic by their tails down the tunnels. The princess witch would have felt sorry for them but she had a lot on her mind. They walked through the tunnel for a few minutes before they came to a stop at the end. He lifted up the floor block up a little to see if the close was clear. Seeing that nothing was ice cold he tossed the two imp inside so they could their thing. Panic got on top of pain and the two transformed into a human being. They made some noises before running for their dear life. When they knew that the creatures were after the imps, the Underworld God got out first before helping the two teens out. They crept quietly towards the move stairs and were able to get to the top of the tower.
"Came to try again." A voice said
"Well I brought a few visitors this time." Hades replied
When the cloaked figure looked their way Hunter tensed at the glowing red eyes. Then he placed Vanessa behind him when the figure let out a growl.
"Why is she here? Why did you bring her here?" The figure asked with a low growl and standing up.
Hades held up his hands in surrender but stepped away to let Vanessa see him. The princess walked up to the cell and she felt that strange like before.
"Dad?" Vanessa whispered
With a sigh, Vlad unhooded himself.
"Hello, my little rose." Vlad said with a weak smile.
"All this time...you've been...but why?" She asked, tears were filling her eyes. "I thought you were dead."
Vlad closed his eyes as he sighed.
"I felt your mothers death that night. The moment the death curse hit her I felt it. I was filled with anger. Nothing but rage and anger. So I went after the ones that betrayed them. The ones that were supposed to protect and keep your hideout hidden. Someone already beat me to the secret keeper so I went after the guardian. Her name is Vasilisa, a witch we thought we knew. The Fight caught the attention of the muggles and this alerted the Ministry." Vlad explained "Before they came Vasilisa set up an explosion spell that made a crater. It looked like killed her and with me...being a vampire they wanted to kill me. They didn't want to hear my case. Dumbledore informed them that I was the only reason that kept the other vampires in line. Not wanting another war they decided to lock me instead. You must understand, Vanessa, no matter what they say, I am innocent. I didn't kill her."
"Ah, Vanessa, I don't want to rush you but I don't know how long Pain and Panics form will last." Hunter said as he looked at the stairs.
"He's right, I should have started doing this while you two were talking." Hades said
He went to pick the lock once more but Vanessa got to the door first.
"Pickett. Do you think you can pick this fast?" Vanessa asked
The little bowtruckle popped out of her sleeve and jumped onto the lock to do his thing.
"Vanessa, you do know that you're helping a break out right." Hunter warned her.
"I don't care. He's my father." She said
She looked over at him and he saw a tear fall down her cheek.
"And I know he's telling me the truth. I would have smelled his lies." She added
Before Hunter could say anything about that comment Pickett already picked the lock open.
"Nice job, Pickett." Vanessa smiled
The bowtruckle jumped back into her hand and crawled into her clothes. Suddenly the temperature of the tower has gotten colder.
"Time to go." Hades announced
Sensing how weak her father was Vanessa helped him by giving him some weight support as did Hades. Hunter went to lead the way but stopped in tracks when he spotted one of the creatures. Hades told them to shield there're eyes before tossing one of his flash bombs at them. It scared them off but Hades knew it wouldn't last long and pushed them to continue on running. It took about three of Hades flash bombs but they were able to get to the hidden door. Hunter opened the floor block up and Vanessa jumped in first with her father. Then Hades pushed his son inside before jumping in himself and shut the block.
"What about Pain and Panic?" Vanessa asked
Hunter scoffed and pointed his hand behind her, showing that the two imps were already inside shaking in fear.
"Always the first to run to the safest place when there's trouble." He muttered
Vanessa rolled her eyes and continued on helping her father down the tunnel. It wasn't long till they reached Hades place.
"You do know they will be searching the Isle once they see my cell empty." Vlad said "They won't be able to describe us."
"Don't worry the tunnel will collapse before they arrive. It's a good thing that the Demetors are blind." Hades said
He moved a dresser to reveal another hidden floor door. When he opened it there was a coffin four feet down with two large jugs of blood on the right of it.
"While they search, you'll need to get your strength back. Eleven years of those fuckers sucking your life force I can only assume that you only have 20% of your power." He said
"More or less." Vlad muttered
Vanessa helped him down towards the coffin.
"Thank you." He whispered
He laid down in it before looking up at his grown daughter. She knew that he needed blood now so she placed the hooked up tube needle in his right arm. The vampire king smiled at her as he placed a hand on her cheek.
"You look so much like your mother." He whispered "I'm so sorry, Vanessa. I'm sorry for not being there for you. I hope you can forgive me."
Vanessa took his hand and kissed it.
"I do, dad." She whispered
This made Vlad smile more before he drifted to sleep. When she placed his hand on his chest Hades shut the hidden door and placed the dresser in place.
"Don't worry, after a few months of rest and blood he should be back to strength soon." He said
Vanessa nodded in understanding but didn't take her eyes off the floor. Hunter walked over towards her and sat down next to her while placing an arm around her.
"He'll be safe here. Cerberus is a great guard dog, everyone on the Isle is terrified of him." He said, trying to comfort her. "At least you know he is alive and where he is now."
Vanessa smiled at him.
"Thank you." She whispered
The two stood up and she hugged him before looking at Hades.
"I think I'll take that drink." She smiled
After a while they started talking and getting to know Hades. He told them about how he met her father and how they became friends. Then Vanessa told Hunter about her secret. About her being half vampire and that's why she knew her father wasn't lying to her as her kind can always smell lies. The reason she never told him was because she was afraid that he'd be afraid of her or worse tell someone. Vampires were still feared in both the wizardry and the human world after all. Hunter was a little hurt that she thought this but understood her reasons. He told that he didn't care what she was as he fell for her for who she was and promised that he wouldn't tell anyone. After a while the two noticed that their time was up so they headed back to the apartment. When they got there they saw the other VK's waiting outside of it, along with Pandora. This was their plan after all. They both knew they wouldn't be able to change Mal's mind and hopefully maybe the other VK's and Ben could.
"I see you guys got Mals' note." Hunter said
"Hunter." Evie sighed in relief.
"Vanessa? What are you doing here?" Carlos asked
"We're on a date." She said "Have you guys been able to change Mals' yet?"
"No. But Ben is trying." Jay replied
Minutes later Ben came down from the staircase looking heartbroken. It didn't go well. He walked off a little as he needed to clear his head. Evie tried to talk from the microphone from below as Mal closed the gate door but she wouldn't talk. It wasn't until a minute later that Vanessa noticed her brother had walked further off as she couldn't see him.
"Damn it, where did Ben go?" Vanessa asked
"Ben?" Evie called
"Ben?" Vanessa called
A figure appeared with their head and it almost looked like Ben but Vanessa knew it wasn't.
"Ben." Evie said in relief, thinkin it was him. "Don't scare us like that."
"Don't scare you?" A scottish voice said
When the figure got closer it turned out to be Harry Hook.
"But that's my specialty." He smirked
"Hook." Hunter glared
"Harry." Evie said in shock.
"What did you do with Ben?" Jay demand
"Oh, uh, we nicked him. Mm-hmm. Yeah." Hook smirked "And if you want to see him again, have Mal come to the Chip shoppe tonight. Alone. Uma wants a little visit." Then he looked over at Jay and Hunter. "Aw. Jay. Hunt. Looks like you two have lost your touch."
"You wanna bet." Hunter growled
Both him and Jay tried to jump him to fight but Vanessa and Evie held them back. The pirate boy just let out a psychic laugh before barking at Carlos to scare him. Seeing that he didn't scare him like before he just walked away as he whistled a tune.
"If you guys didn't bring him here this never would have happened." Mal scoffed.
When Jay was able to climb up he was able to unlock the gate and let them all in. Mal now looked like herself as her hair was now light purple and wore her normal Isle clothes.
"What were you thinking?" She asked
"He was gonna come with or without us." Evie explained "We just wanted to protect him."
"Yeah, and we completely blew it, guys." Carlos said
"Okay! Okay. So what are we gonna do?" Jay asked
"We are not doing anything." Mal said "This is between Uma and me. And she's a punk. And guess what? Now I have to go get him."
"Whoa, Mal you're not going by yourself." Hunter glared "You're still gonna have to go through Hook and his wharf rats. I'm going with you."
"Same here. I need to get my brother." Vanessa said
"No!" Mal and Hunter shouted
"Vanessa, they already have Ben. We can't let them get you too. And Hunter, I can handle myself with Uma. Besides she said to come alone." Mal said
"Mal, come on." Evie scoffed
"She said to come alone." Carlos said "I know one thing. I'm not going anywhere." Then he sat down.
"We'll be here when you get back." Jay added
They all sat down in the couches and chairs while Mal went off by herself. Vanessa couldn't stop herself being worried for her brother. Hunter tried to comfort her but it wasn't working. After an hour Mal came back but she was still alone. She told them that Uma wanted a trade: Fairy Godmothers' wand for Ben.
"There's no way we're gonna give Uma the wand." Vanessa said
"We can't just let her destroy Auradon." Evie added
"Uma doesn't get the wand, then Ben toast you guys." Carlos mentioned
"Ben, wouldn't want us to do this." Vanessa said "We have to find another way to get him back."
'If only I have the invisibility cloak.' She thought 'Then I could just sneak on the ship and save him.'
Jay and Carlos started arguing about what they should do, while Hunter was quiet. He was in his own mind, trying to figure things out.
"Quiet!" Hunter said "Now, Uma said that she wants Fairy Godmother's wand. Well she didn't say it had to be the real one." He looked over at Carlos. "Your 3-D printer."
Carlos smirked as he caught on to Hunters plan.
"Yeah, I can make one in my sleep." He said
"Guys, the second Uma tests it, she'll know it's a fake." Evie mentioned
"We'll just need to get Ben fast and make a diversion." Hunter said "Smoke bombs."
"Right, that's perfect." She smiled "I'll get the chemicals I need from Lady Tremaine's place. That could work."
She walked over to Mal as she finally noticed her new hair style.
"Oh, and sick hair, by the way." She said "Evil Stepmom seriously stepped up her game."
"Okay, do you want to know something? Dizzy did this." Mal smiled
"Aw. Little Dizzy? Shut up!" Evie said aw.
They continued on gushing over her new look until Jay and Hunter stopped them.
"Girls! The plan." Hunter said
"Right. Carlos, Jay, Hunter and Vanessa, you guys meet us at Pirate Bay no later than noon." Mal said "While Evie, Pandora and I get the smoke bombs. And, you guys, losing...not an option. Cause we're rotten…"
"To the core." Everyone said
With that everyone split up into groups. Vanessa had agreed to go with the boys only because she knew they'll need back up and knew who to recruit. When they returned to Auradon they headed to Jay's and Carlos's room. Dude was outside waiting for them.
"Hi, Dude. Sorry I'm late but Ben got captured." Vanessa said as she picked him up. "What are you doing out here?"
"Why is the door open?" Jay asked
They noticed that indeed their door was open and checked who it was. It was Chad as he was using Carlos 3-D printer.
"'You gotta be kidding me." Jay scoffed
This made Chad jump with gasp.
"I knocked." He chuckled
Vanessa placed the Curb down while Carlos went to take the other copy key Chad had.
"What is this?" Jay asked
"Oh." Chad laughed and took out a strange doll out of the printer. "That's a little Chad action figure." He made a zoom noise as he showed them but pouted when noticed the missing head. "Well minus the head."
"I think that's an improvement." Vanessa glared
"Same, excuse me." Carlos said and hurried over to the printer.
Both Jay and Hunter tried to push the prince out of the room but he saw Carlos trying to print Fairy Godmothers' wand.
"Why are you guys making Fairy Godmothers' wand?" He asked
Unknowingly, Lonnie was passing by and stopped when she heard this.
"Ben's been captured!" Dude shouted
Both Vanessa, Hunter and Chad were shocked to hear him speak.
"What...? How...?" Vanessa muttered
"Dude can talk?" Chad asked in fear.
"Thanks Dude." Carlos muttered
"I didn't know." Dude said
"Don't tell anyone." Jay glared as he hit Chad's arm. "Ben's life depends on it."
"Really?" Chad said with a smile. "So if something were to happen, you know what I'm saying…"
"Something bad, we get it." Carlos glared
Chad chuckled.
"God forbid. But if something were to happen, who do you think would be in line for king?" He asked
Vanessa glared and shoved him to the door.
"Then I'll be Queen, as I am next in line you ass." Vanessa hissed "If you ever think ill thoughts about my brother again I'll do everything in my power to get rid of you or send you to Isle myself, you vile, self absorbed, arrogant, piece of crap!" She shoved him out of the room with him letting out a high pitch scream. "Say anything and that toy won't be the only one without a head."
She shut the door in his face before he could say anything. After taking a few deep breaths she turned around, saw them all pale and tensed in fear.
"Remind me to never get on your bad side, love." Hunter said
"Yeah, that was scary." Carlos said
"Sorry you had to see that." She said with a little blush. "Okay, while you guys work on the wand I'll get some more back up. Be back."
Before she left she looked back at Carlos. The poor boy actually flinched.
"And don't think I'll forget. I want to know what you did to my Crup." She said before leaving.
"Goodluck, explaining that." Jay muttered as patted Carlos' shoulder.
