Before anything, PLEASE NOTE: TW for attempted suicide this chapter. Stay safe y'all and if you feel suicidal reach out to someone please because you will be missed by someone, I can assure you that.
Now that that's outta the way…
Idol: Guess who's back!
I'm honestly so happy I put the fic on hiatus, it was really good for me and my grades stayed in the A- range too. So now that my mental health isn't taking a nosedive, welcome to the 25th chapter of Heroes Rise Will You! Wooooo
As much as the hiatus was needed, Disaster and I can't wait to be writing this again. We have so many plans for this fic and we may end up making you all hate us but hey sacrifices must be made.
On another note I started watching Attack on Titan and I'm almost done with Season 4 now and I love it so much
Also I have a new alias now! I mean, on here I'm staying Idol but you can also call me Tennchant if you want. Or Tenn for short. If ya see a person called Tennchant anywhere, that's me!
Disaster, ye got anything to say?
Disaster: sweet jesus it's been a while.
I didn't really read much of this chapter at the time of writing this note, so I don't know what happens. Needless to say, this fic will be diverging from the original My Hero Academia storyline. Your favorite canon characters will not die, I will assure you of that.
I recently got my ears pierced. I think they look cool.
I think that this fic has a lot of things I'd change if I could rewrite it. I'd change Yangchen a whole lot. I think she's got a lot of big high points and big low points, but nothing really in the middle. I'd also make Yangchen less powerful, because let's face it, nobody can fight with that many weapons.
I'd change her motivation and get rid of her brother, because he only existed because of an old idea that got scrapped. I'd make her more like an actual human, rather than a reflection of a pro in a teen. I know that I can't make these things happen right now, but I still think about them.
Little bit of retconning, little bit of explanation, Yangchen can't actually fight with that many weapons. She's got like, three weapons she's trained with, five that she watched one video for and called it a day, and the rest she just knows exist and uses them depending on the situation. She just tells people she can fight with that many weapons because it makes her more intimidating. I've got a list, maybe I'll release it soon.
Enjoy!
"Alright, we are in position." The radio crackled to life. "You ready?"
Shouta switched on his mic. "Ready as I'll ever be."
"Great. I'm hacking into the system to disable security. Hawks, send out that feather."
"Aye aye, captain!"
"Seizonsha, make the drone. Make it as small as you can."
"Got it." Yangchen took out a weight from her belt. Lying down beside Shouta on a rooftop overlooking the white office-like building, she set to work, a frown on her face.
"Remember Eraser, don't use your quirk until All Might and All for One are fighting. Don't accidentally use it on All Might."
Shouta scoffed. "Do you really think I'm that careless?"
"Hey, mistakes happen," Tsukauchi defended.
A few moments later, Tsukauchi's voice reached Shouta again. "Visuals are down and security systems are disabled. Seizonsha, drone progress?"
"I'm working on it… " Yangchen grumbled as the weight slowly took the form of a drone. "Cars are one thing, but drones are on a whole other level… "
"How much longer?"
"Uhhh, half a minute give or take?"
Tsukauchi swore. "We don't have time. All for One has surely noticed the lack of cameras by now and must be taking countermeasures. Hawks, Tsukuyomi, head inside. Seizonsha will just send the drone after."
"The plan should work either way. Seizonsha's drone is small enough to be unnoticeable," Shouta informed.
"Mhm, got it."
"We're heading in!"
"Good luck you two."
Beside Shouta, Yangchen let out a breath. "Alright, here."
The drone was minuscule. The size of two of Shouta's thumbs. Yangchen held up the controller, which had a screen showing the visual from the drone. It was not the clearest by a long shot, but it would do.
"Send it in, Seizonsha!"
"Going in!"
Keigo was supposed to enjoy a leisurely patrol with his two new interns while teaching them about hero-ing. And he was going to take it seriously for once.
But then the call from Eraser came and messed up all his plans.
He was more than a little salty, but a student was kidnapped. More specifically, Seizonsha's adopted sister. Even if he didn't want to go, little Yangchen would have dragged him along anyway.
He was creeping around the brightly-lit hallways with Tokoyami when Seizonsha shouted in his earphone. "Alright, here."
"Send it in, Seizonsha!"
"Going in!"
Keigo breathed a sigh of relief. "Let's wait for the drone to catch up."
"An ideal plan." Tsukuyomi nodded. "However, the lights dispel any remnants of darkness which may have concealed our figures, thus making us akin to the dark spot on the sun."
"Hm, I suppose you're right." Keigo leaned back upon the wall. "Any ideas-"
Someone came into the hall they were in.
Keigo froze.
They froze.
"Hah?"
The person suddenly shouted. "INTRUDERS! SOUND THE ALARM-"
A red feather flew behind the man and chopped at his neck. He fell to the ground with a strangled cry, the feather fluttering on top of his head.
Tsukuyomi's eyes were wide. "Hawks-sensei…"
"At ease, he's not dead," Keigo turned to the startled hero-in-training. He brought a hand to his ear, activating the microphone. "Guys, we've been found out. Where's the drone?"
"Where even are you guys?" Seizonsha answered. "I'm behind a group of villains, west wing. They're after you, so get ready."
Keigo sighed, rolling his shoulder. "Looks like we have no choice. Are you ready, Tsukuyomi? This'll be your first real battle in the world of the pros."
This time Dark Shadow spoke up. "I won't lose my nerves so quickly."
Keigo smirked. "Maybe."
The first villains turned the corner.
"So? Do you reconsider?"
I glared at Mr. Pastyface. Well, glared as much as I could. My limbs still felt like pure lead.
No matter how much I'd hyped myself up before going to meet Musco and spring, I wasn't expecting torture. Or All for One. Or the memory. Shigaraki being nice.
I mean, after all, he was a human, right? Did he want to commit all those crimes in the first place?
But the USJ…
Shiggy sighed from across the room. "Stupid hero spawn, spewing all that 'friendship is magic' nonsense..."
I wasn't going to give him the pleasure of hearing my raspy voice.
Actually, I doubted I could make a sound anyway, judging from how much I'd screamed a few hours earlier.
Which really sucked. I needed to ask him a lot of things. About the past, about Ryu…
It was a relief that he wasn't dead, but how were we going to get him out? Was he even being held here against his will?
Was Ryu a villain?
If so, then why did he help me back then?
"Hey."
I broke my gaze from the ceiling to watch Shiggy. His hand was scratching his neck, though not furiously. "Why...do you want to be a hero?"
I blinked.
He actually asked a mature question. Wow.
I couldn't talk and I was chained to my bed, so I didn't do anything. It didn't look like he was expecting an answer either, cuz he kept talking. "Everyone goes on and on about how heroes are the savior of mankind and whatnot, about how good and right and justicious they are. But they all are hypocrites," He clenched his fist. "If someone doesn't agree with them, they are taken care of. Just like that. Nobody listens. Nobody asks us why we don't like heroes, and they just keep killing."
He lowered his gaze. "The only one who gave a damn about me before was Sensei...he showed me that it didn't matter who you were, or what your quirk was, or how you looked, dressed, ate, anything. He was the first guy to see me as me."
He scoffed. "I bet they tell you that villains are hellspawn, amiright? Stupid fat bastards sitting at the top…"
With that last statement, he swept out of the room, shutting the door with a bang.
I didn't know what to think. Thankfully, I didn't have to. Or unfortunately. Depends on how you perceive it.
"Time for another round~"
Damn.
As the needle neared my skin, I tried to bring my mind anywhere other than the present.
Didn't do much to stop the pain though.
"AaaaAAAAAUGH!"
Shun wasn't getting better.
He wasn't sleeping, and he never wanted to wake up. He rarely showered and gave up completely on brushing his teeth. He didn't listen to anybody anymore and just spent an entire day staring at the sky from the ceiling.
Hiro was out all the time. When he did come back, he was covered in blood. I was afraid to ask what he'd be up to.
Maki was a mess. She was easily more emotional than the two boys, so she'd often cry with me. She was pretty loud about it too.
But I really couldn't blame her.
I mean, Yuki died. Yuki had nursed her back to health while Shun, Hiro and I played. She was closer to Yuki than anyone, save Shun.
And suddenly, I was doing everything.
Cleaning, cooking, laundry. You name it, I did it. It was a nice distraction. By working, I took my mind off Yuki and Shiggy's deadline.
The house was cleaner than ever. We had extra food. I didn't rest. I couldn't rest. With rest came emptiness, and with emptiness came a fresh wave of emotion.
I wasn't a stoic person by all means, but I'd still learned to cry silently. It was gradual, never in places you'd expect. I wiped them and went on with my day. Multiple times.
When I was with the group, my days had gained color. They were vivid; even more so than when my parents were alive. Now they were dulling. Fast.
Which is why I jumped like a rabbit when I heard a scream from the ceiling.
I jumped up, left the soup (we had way too much anyway, a spoiled batch wouldn't hurt), and scrambled up the stairs to the source. Maki was standing in the doorway of Shun's room and held her face in horror.
And looking at the scene before me, she was completely justified.
Shun had been taking his meals on a tray that we left outside his door. If he asked for something different, we gave him something different. If he had a headache, we left him a pill.
We should have kept a closer eye on his trays.
Shun lay unconscious on the floor, mouth hanging open. Right next to his head lay a small, folded note, and a single pill.
I grabbed the note as Hiro burst into the room.
"everyone,
you were the best.
thank you for everything. you guys deserve to live good lives, so don't end up like me.
take care of each other."
My stomach started to swirl.
Hiro pressed his fingers to Shun's neck. "He's still alive, we have to get him to a hospital!"
Hiro grabbed Shun's arms and began to drag him out the door. I stuffed Shun's note in my pocket, swallowed my stomach, and lifted his legs. Hiro squeezed his eyes shut as the world became grey around us.
We shuffled through the quiet, unmoving streets and around the frozen cars and people. Hiro strained with every step, but he pushed on until we were outside the hospital.
Hiro let out a gasp as the world regained its color. We helped Hiro to a park bench so he could rest, and we promised to update him as soon as possible.
We took Shun's body into the reception area of the hospital.
"Hello, how can I help-"
Maki teared up. "Our friend was lying on the floor and we need a doctor because he's going to die and we left him alone and now-"
"Slow down!" Maki shut up. "You, the blondie, what's happening?"
"He was lying on the floor with a pill by his head and we think he tried to kill himself!"
"I understand. I'll page a doctor and someone will get you guys to the ICU. Please fill out these forms in the meantime." The receptionist pushed a clipboard towards us as a team rushed in with a rolling stretcher. They lifted his body onto the stretcher and took him away.
"Are you the immediate family?"
I shrugged. "I guess?"
The receptionist sighed. "We'll try to contact them. What is your friend's name?"
"Shun."
"...That's it?"
"Uhh, his full first name is Shunsuke. Forgot the last name."
"We can work with that." The receptionist went to the back, where other receptionists worked through records. In the meanwhile, I took the clipboard of forms.
Maki looked at me. "...Do you know how to write?"
"A bit."
"Good enough."
I looked at the forms. No furigana. Loads of tough kanji. I groaned.
Why did I have to fill out forms I couldn't even read when my best friend was dying beyond the screen?*
Yangchen bit her lip as she navigated the drone. Hawks and Tokoyami were already fighting. There were a lot more villains than anticipated, but they were holding their own well.
More important was finding out where Kiraru was.
There were a lot of hallways, she'd give them that. Lots of doctors, closed doors, and was that a person with a dragon quirk?
Just what kind of place was this again?
"Any luck?" Aizawa leaned over.
"One seeeeeec… " Movement from a hall the drone just passed caught Yangchen's eye. "That's… "
Shigaraki. Exiting from a door. With the name "Kiraru" on it.
"Here!"
"Great, now find us because these villains won't stop coming- urk!" Hawks' words were cut off by a bang and a grunt. "I'm fine," He said after a moment.
"What's Shigaraki doing?" Tsukauchi asked.
"Talking to another villain down the hall. Locking on, and now we're after him."
Hawks cursed. "Knowing him, he's probably headed here. This is the worst-case scenario. Tsukuyomi, do you know if Dark Shadow will disintegrate if Shigaraki touches him?"
"I suspect not, as Dark Shadow is composed mainly of plasma. However, Dark Shadow will be weakened considerably due to the lighting."
"I may be able to do something about that. Anyway, Yangchen, keep following Ol' Shiggy and once he arrives, tell us the directions to Kiraru's room."
"You'll be in a battle. Can you shake them?"
"I have my ways."
And well, he was the third best hero in Japan. Yangchen would be crazy to doubt him.
Even so, she had a nagging feeling that even if they did get to Kiraru, it was too late. The damage had been done.
She only hoped that it wasn't serious.
Keigo dodged a bullet while sending out multiple feathers. He didn't know how many villains were in this place, but judging from how many he'd had to defeat so far, it was a miracle this place managed to stay so underknown.
He knocked out two villains while Dark Shadow sweeped a few more to the wall, when he froze.
The aura had changed in the blink of an eye.
"On your left."
"I can see that Seizonsha," Keigo murmured as Shigaraki neared them. "Directions."
As Seizonsha fired off directions in the earpiece, Shigaraki sauntered closer. "Tch. Stupid heroes, facing the final boss before even getting good equipment…"
Keigo eyed Tsukuyomi. "Here's the plan: I'll try to shake them, you sneak off and get to Kiraru. I'm sending a feather with you. Use that to pick the lock."
"It's a biometric lock." Yangchen called.
"I've got it," Tsukauchi spoke up. "Just get there."
"Roger," Tsukuyomi whispered just before Keigo steps forward.
"Ah, Shigaraki! We haven't met, have we? My name's Hawks, a pleasure to meet you," He made a big show of bowing down. "You're actually why I'm here, so seeing you in front of me makes me so happy you don't even know!"
He spread his wings threateningly. "After all, my fans were wondering if I, the number 3 hero, could hold a candle to the great magnanimous Shigaraki, and I couldn't let them down, you see?" Keigo added in a wink for extra points.
Didn't do much though.
Shigaraki let out a yell and lunged. Keigo burst upward with one wing-flap (thank god for the high ceilings) and sent two feathers to Shigaraki's arms. They slashed the elbows before Shigaraki could react, and the villain howled.
Tsukuyomi used the commotion to high-tail it out of the scene. Keigo discreetly sent a feather to follow him.
It was risky, sending Tsukuyomi out with no back-up, but the situation was already very dire.
He only hoped that the young hero wouldn't run into All for One.
*If you caught that song reference, you are my new best friend
So. That scene hurt to write, but it was necessary.
Please note that I (Idol) have no experience with depression or suicide, nor am I a doctor, so this may be inaccurate, but if it is please tell me how to make it more realistic (if you're comfortable to of course!)
Tbh, though I've read a few fics that deal with attempted suicide, the most realistic depiction of it I've seen was in the Bollywood firm "The Three Idiots" and its an amazing watch so please check it out
I know this chapter is shorter than usual, and mostly in italics, but please bear with us. I'll be doing a formatting change in the next chapter so it's not all in italics, so that should be fun.
DisasterDoodlesInc:
I wrote and revised some of the flashback. I basically handled Shun's fall from grace into his attempt.
See y'all next week Monday for the climax of the rescue (hopefully)!
