Mellivorous: adj. eating or living on honey
Sometimes, rations and Red Cross packages just were not enough, and the priority mission had to be finding more food. Several men went out night, hoping to set a few cobbled together traps and find some edible plants. They came back hours later.
"We're sorry it took so long, Colonel, but the surprise air raid gave us an unexpected opportunity."
Hogan looked dubiously at the contents of their basket. "What does an air raid have to do with you bringing back an entire beehive?"
"Well, the smoke put the bees to sleep," the
private explained. Hogan decided not to argue.
