Summary: Narcissa was delighted to meet her grandson, maybe even secretly glad she was the first grandparent.
Scorpion of the Sky
Narcissa entered the room with such haste she nearly knocked Healer Hale off his feet. Pausing briefly, she honed in on her son whose back was turned, but the quiet coos that came from him had a smile split across her face. She approached quietly, not wanting to disturb the calm atmosphere that settled in the room, and placed a gentle hand on Draco's shoulder as she approached him.
He looked at her briefly before settling his gaze back on the bundle of blankets in his arms, and Narcissa followed his lead. Her baby blue eyes laid upon the tiny little face that peeked through the blankets, eyes closed, mouth slightly open, and lips twitched every so often as he slept. Her smile only grew more at the sight.
Forcing herself to pull away, she looked over at Astoria and gave her hand a gentle squeeze, silently apologizing that her own parents weren't able to return from China in time for the delivery. She looked very tired, but the smile on her had her glowing with happiness as she watched Draco cradle the newborn.
"Would you like to hold him?" he whispered, and Narcissa's heart swelled at the offer.
She held out her arms and Draco transferred him over to her. It took everything she had to not burst into tears of joy. The baby barely weighed a sickle in the blankets, but to Narcissa, and to his parents, he was completely perfect anyway.
"His name is Scorpius Hyperion," Astoria offered, curling her arm around Draco's after he perched himself next to her. "After the scorpion in the sky and the god of heavenly light."
"How beautiful," she said, pulling little Scorpius closer to her, unable to draw her eyes away even when Lucius finally entered the room and approached her.
It had been a very long time since she held a newborn, but it was like second nature to her as she gently rocked him in her arms. Lucius brushed a light finger over one of the baby's soft cheeks, prompting the infant to stir and stretch out from its fetal position in Narcissa's arms from the sudden skin contact. He continued to squirm once he became more alert, and the peaceful facade of slumber scrunched up into an angry pinched face as he let out a soft cry.
Draco was at Narcissa's side in a beat as another gentle cry escaped Scorpius. He glanced over at Lucius briefly before inspecting his son. "Is he okay?"
"He's only hungry," she said absently, moving past Draco and toward Astoria who was in the process of propping herself up.
Draco quickly aided in adding the extra pillows behind Astoria to support her while Narcissa waited, attempting to soothe Scorpius until she was ready.
"I did not—"
"You're alright," Astoria assured Lucius, placing a hand on his arm. "He has had quite a day already. Being prodded at by the healers and mediwix's has let him very agitated."
Narcissa placed Scorpius in her now outstretched arms before stepping back to stand at Lucius' side. She placed a hand on his shoulder and clasped her hand in his as she took in the lovely family for a brief moment.
"We will let you rest, and we will be sure to send your parents in as soon as they arrive," Narcissa promised.
Draco came and gave them each a hug. Narcissa whispered a "Congratulations" in his ear before kissing his temple, and Lucius gave him a firm pat on the back before they left the small family to bond.
