Chapter 26: Cell Death and Organ Failure
The gang ran out into the centre of the street, looking frantically around them. The street seemed quiet and non-dangerous at first, but then wheeling around the corner like a fast man, Jay accelerating forwards, his legs a blur, a cloud of dust billowing out behind him. The expression on his face was a blood-curdling mix of twisted malice and mild anxiety. In other words, he was mad, but also nervous.
When Jotaro saw him his eyeballs seemed to rupture. "GOOD FREAKIN' GRIEF!" He shrieked.
"We have to find Sokka! He'll have Pa'ap with him! We can escape!" Katara yelled breathlessly. She and her compatriots sprinted down the street.
"But where is he? Everyone is here except Sokka! We aren't missing anyone else..." Zuko shouted tearfully.
Suddenly, Jotaro turned pale. Good grief, he thought.
"Well good freakin' grief guys, where's the old man?!" He looked desperately at his friends, but their faces only morphed into horror.
"Oh no." Jotaro muttered.
"How long has he been gone?" Aang asked.
"How am I supposed to know?" Jotaro grumbled, hat brim practically paralell to his face. "I don't like paying attention to the old geezer! He depresses me, to be honest. To be perfectly candid. To be outrageously direct. To be intensely truthful-"
"Stop babbling! Jotaro, how could you lose track of your own grandfather?! You're supposed to be responsible for him!" Katara began to berated him.
"Hey, it's not my fault!" Jotaro began to try to weasel his way out of taking responsibility, but just then, Jay's voice boomed behind them.
"GUYS! GUYS! COME ON, LITTLE JOOT! LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS!"
The Gaang immediately gave up on running, sensing that Jay was simply to fast for them. They planted their feet and took on an aggressive stance, prepared to fight Jay. But suddenly, Kakyoin walked calmly towards Jay, and sat down in the middle of the street.
"KAKYOIN! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Aang shouted frantically.
"Jay will plow you through like a motorised lawn mower!" Zuko pleaded. But Kakyoin only smiled back at them.
"Have no fear, young ones. I only want to talk to Jay. I must know how he jumped over my dimensional rift. Right now, it seems Jay is a huge threat to my power, and perhaps even more importantly, my ego." Kakyoin looked calmly at Jay.
When Jay came within five feet of Kakyoin, he stopped, and smiled politely.
"Kindly move out of the way, my friend! Hurting you would not align with my traditional values." Jay turned from Kakyoin, and his gaze locked on Jotaro. Jotaro made a sound like a muffled yelp. "My quarrel is with my brother." Jay's voice oozed menace and hatred.
The Gaang swallowed. This wasn't going well. Sokka, where are you? Katara internally willed her brother to show up and save them.
Jay sidestepped Kakyoin with tiny little elegant steps, like a dancer.
"Come on, little Joot. No need to turn to angry blows. We are kin! We must settle this like men!" Jay did a little dance as he walked closer to the group.
"Listen Jay, nobody ever said Jotaro Kujo was a nice guy. When my probably fake brother attacks me, I attack him back. So don't come any closer, unless you want your scrawny ass beaten into a pulp." Jotaro tried to sound tough and confident.
"Ha! Last time I checked, brother, you didn't have a stand. You can't lay a finger on me. I have spinjitzu!" Jay laughed as our protagonists other than Jotaro looked on in horror.
"I don't know if you've forgotten, but you're a literal lego figure Jay. I'm freakin 6'5. I could probably crush you with my bare hands." Jotaro spat violently at his brother's little feet.
Just then, Kakyoin stood up and looked at Jay.
"Hey little man, I just wanna know how you jumped over my dimensional rift. I mean, I saw you grow up, I never saw you do anything like that. So just tell me. Even though I'll probably kill you. So where'd you learn it? Robert?" Kakyoin said. Jay's blood ran cold.
"What do you mean you watched me grow up? What are you talking about?" Jays lip quivered.
"I'M THE ONE ASKING QUESTIONS HERE, YOU LITTLE SHIT! DO YOU WANNA DIE?!" Kakyoin suddenly shouted with fury. Jay didn't back down.
"Do you need those ears of yours checked? Answer my question first! How did you watch me grow up? Or are you lying, like the liar you are, lying all the time!"
Kakyoin looked irritated, and the Gaang was afraid of what he would do to Jay. But all of a sudden, Kakyoin sighed.
"Alright fine. I'll tell you. The truth is, Jay, you know. Very well."
"No, I don't!" Jay shouted, clearly upset.
"Yes, you do. You'd have to be an idiot if you don't recognize my aura."
"Just tell me! Stop joking around!"
"Well fine then. I suppose I'll start at the beginning. Billions of years ago, the universe was created by something scientists call the big bang. There is still debate in the scientific community about that, though. What a bunch of idiots. The universe was created by a great mage! A magic user! LIke myself. Anyways, amd he-" Kakyoin was cut off by Jay.
"Just tell me, dunce! I don't care about the universe!"
"Yes, yes. Stop yelling. I'll skip a great deal of the beginning, if you feel so strongly about it. I might as well just rip the bandaid off and tell you it plain and simple. So I will. Jay. I AM Master Woooo."
Jay blinked, as if unable to take in what he had just heard. The Gaang all gasped in shock, upon learning that their friend, Noriaki Kakyoin, was the criminal, the imposter, Master Wooo!
"Awhile back, I traveled to your original dimension, and met the original mater Wu. After realizing I could make a killing from teaching people fake spinjitzu, I killed Master Wu and stole his identity. Shortly after that, I began teaching you, after you ran away from home."
Jay blinked again.
"B-but you look nothing like Master Wooo!" Jay was getting very clammy with fear and anxiety.
"Are you stupid or something? I did my makeup and wore a fake beard. It wasn't a difficult disguise. And it was worth it. I made millions."
But at that moment, Katara column't take it anymore.
"Millions, huh?! WHERE ARE THOSE MILLIONS NOW?!"
But Kakyoin only shrugged.
"I gambled them all away, years ago."
Katara was about to yell at Kakyoin, when Zuko interjected.
"If Jay is older than Jotaro… and Kakyoin is Jotaro's age… how is Kakyoin old enough to be an adult teaching Jay… for years?"
"I don't give a shit about any of this crap, but I do find it interesting that one of them has their ages very wrong." Jotaro said. Jay began to cry softly.
"Was, was, was it…" Jay stuttered through breathy sobs. "Was all the spinjitzu a lie? My adventures with Zane, Cole, and Kai? I thought we were a family! And now I learn that you're just-"
"Ah, shut up, Jay." Kakyoin studied his nails. "You always were a weepy one. Just get on with attacking us, or go home, son."
Jay's teary face looked up at the redhead.
"Son? What, what did you just call me? Are you my real father?"
Kakyoin angrily kicked Aang in the shins.
"Jay, it's just a figure of speech! Sorry I kicked you, Aang, I had to get my anger out somehow."
But while they had been talking, Jay had risen to his feet, to his full LEGO figure height. Nervous sweat streamed down his face, and his knees knocked together, making a sound like angry bees. But his eyes glowed with murderous rage.
"I thought there were some constants in this cruel, shifting universe, but now I learn that Master Woooo was Kakyoin all along? And my little Joot is-"
Jay was cut off by Jotaro stepping on him.
"Don't call my Joot. I swear to god, I freakin' hate that nickname. It's better than being called JoJo, but not by much. Good grief. Jay, we're leaving now. Don't try to stop us. We aren't going to run, cause you're so small anyways. Tell Robert we're coming to kill him."
"But… but if you leave now… you'll never get your grandfather back, little Joot!" Jay patheticaly whined. Jotaro turned.
"You've got the old man, huh? You can keep him for now. Just do do anything nasty to him. I'll come and get him soemtime. Whenever we come to kill you and robert. It'll be nice not having to look out for the old geezer! Good grief."
"Yeah guys let's just get out of here." Aang said. They gaang turned their backs to Jay, and began to silently walk away, not without glances back at Jay, filled with pity. Jay simply stood there, crying softly.
Once Jay was a few blocks away and out of sight, the gang turned to talking amongst themselves. Katara first made it very clear that she thought Kakyoin had done a rotten thing, scamming Jay like. To that Kakyoin only shrugged and said: "Well, what's done is done. And I don't regret it." After that, the conversation turned to the important thing Katara and Aang had been talking about earlier that day. No one was more eager to hear what they knew than Jotaro, the prospect of getting his stand back interested him very much.
"Get on with it Katara. I miss my stand. It's freakin annoying." Jotaro said.
"Yesyes Katara! Tell me. If you don't tell me it's obviously because you hate me." Zuko jabbered. He was still a little out of it from want of sleep.
"Yes indeed. Tell us." Kakyoin added. So they did. Katara and Aang told them everything. About how they thought Robert must be influencing them in some way, considering everything had been falling apart for the past few weeks.
"Just think about it. Everyone has adopted these weird new personalities in the last few weeks, and it's made us get literally nothing done. We hung out in Zuko's beach house for a week while a god killing psychopath was destroying our world. That is not like us." Katara hoped Jotaro and Kakyoin believed her and Aang.
"I guess you do have a point," Jotaro replied. "But you're missing one thing. How did he influence us? Like, how? Has he been secretly following us to like, use magic on us? And the stuff that's been happening to us is weird, but not unbelievable. Back where me and Kakyoin are from, bizarre stuff happens to us all the time. Like an adventure." Jotaro didn't really want to believe what Katara had told him. He hated to think that Robert could have been influencing him. That would be annoying.
"And besides, your theory falls apart when it comes to me." Kakyoin said flatly, "I have had no personality change whatsoever. I am me, myself and I"
"Kakyoin, are you on MARIJUANNA or something? You have definitely changed. You can do magic and shit now. You weren't like that before." Jotaro grumbled.
"Nope, you fucking idiot. I've always been like this, you just didn't know the real me. No one did. Not even myself." Kakyoin stared darkly into Jotaro's soul.
"No, just think about it! Jotaro, you're suddenly having memories about your long lost brother? Is that normal?" Katara said.
"You could be freakin right." Jotaro sighed, "man, I need some weed to process this." Katara sighed dramatically.
"Well you and Kakyoin can think about it more later. We have to find Sokka. We can fly on Paap to somewhere safe. We can regroup and plan our next move."
Just then, they heard a noise like a horrendous sound, like a belch and a scream rolled into one. Our protagonists immediately knew what it was. Paap. Sokka came magically strutting through the street towards them, a smile on his friendly face.
"My friends! There you are! I'm sorry my morning stroll took longer than expected!" Sokka looked around at his friends battered and pail faces.
"Whatever happened to you guys? Where is Jay?"
"He freakin attacked me. Oh and he's a servant of Robert." Jotaro said.
"Oh." Sokka said, looking disappointed. Katara didn't know if it was just her imagination, but for a moment it was as if there was an angry undertone to Sokkas voice. A glint in his eye, that she didn't recognize. Get it together, she told herself.
