This is it, the chapter I have been waiting to write. Get ready for a 3 parter (Coming Soon) just named: A Real Monster!
Snow was heavy and the sky above didn't look like it was going to change at all, sitting on a sleigh being pulled by a reindeer wearing a hat sat the 'youngest' woman you'd ever see; she loudly drank from a bottle as the sleigh was pulled through the snow. The sleigh stopped in a village as the woman looked at the reindeer with her eyebrow raised as to ask 'Here... Really?' the reindeer nods slowly, the woman chuckles throwing her empty bottle into the snow.
She started her walk towards the village, passing by panicked village folk who thought she was a Witch. Who covered their children's eyes as she reached a solitary house untouched by the snowfall, sitting around the house were lawn gnomes that seemed to keep the snow from ever landing around the house.
As she reached the door, a small gloved hand found itself in her grip; she looked down and saw a small child holding her hand.
"You here to help Nokki?" the child asks, behind the child stood a woman and her husband who looked on with shock and a little fear. The woman reached down and pushed the child away, making sure to send a glare towards the townsfolk.
She was here to do a job, yes it may save 'Nokki' but at a cost... there is always a cost. She then turned towards the door and with a hiccup and a drunken stagger, she kicked the door in. Sitting on a bed in the centre of the room surrounded by greenish vines was a bed, that sat a sickly child who was hacking up phlegm. She staggered towards the bed making sure not to trip over the vines that surrounded the room, as she reached the bed; she could feel the stares from a mother coming from behind inside the kitchen.
She shook her head and reached down to feel the forehead of the child with the back of her hand, the child's forehead was hot; and coming from an island entirely covered in snow 24/7 that happened a lot. Pneumonia was most of her calls, but this seemed odd.
She reached down and lightly squeezed the child's neck checking for inflammation... that was a no. The child's chest also sounded fine, the only issue she could see was the cough that made the child throw up phlegm; She then noticed the vines. Odd they were, why would the mother allow them in the house.
"You! Woman; Why with the vines?" the 'young' doctor asks grabbing a handful of vines up from the floor. The woman in the kitchen slowly approved and spoke softly in the drunken ear of the 'young' doctor. The woman spoke about Nokki... Actually named Anthony.
How Nooki became a nickname she'd never know, but she spoke about how Nooki came home with the vines then sat down, only to suddenly come down with a cough that made him spit up phlegm.
The doctor looked down at the vines, and with a whistle, she called her reindeer into the room; on the reindeer's back was a pack that she gladly opened... if she took a second she would have sawn the glare being sent her way... from the reindeer and the woman of the child.
She pulled out an old book given to her by a rambling odd gentleman in a lab coat. As she pursued the pages of the book, she thought back to the odd gentleman who came to her office one day when she was younger than she was... and how he said she could be a beautiful doctor. And with that, she never saw that odd man again, but that's in the past, and this case has to be solved.
She snapped the book shut and placed it back into the pack, she turned to the woman of the child and with a slap she sends the woman to the floor.
"You stupid woman, letting your child play with Poison-Vine!" the doctor spoke reaching over to the child, she poured a vial of strange liquid she had in her pocket; the child stilled, not coughing only breathing. The doctor left, picking up the vines as she left; the woman of the child looked on at shocked from the floor... She was slapped, and for almost killing her child. No more. Nokki would be punished for it... and so will she.
The 'young' doctor placed herself back onto her sleigh, with a click from her the sleigh started its slow journey out of the small town.
"Dr Kureha, why did you lie?" A soft voice asks, the doctor in question sits up from her seat; in her hand a fresh bottle of Sake that was half empty. She looked down at the voice, and spoke softly towards it.
"Chopper, wouldn't you have done the same. That vine wasn't poison. Well not to you, me or everyone in that village; but to that child it was death. So what is a small lie." Kureha says throwing back the rest if her sake, as she does the head of the reindeer turns towards her.
"Lie's help?" the reindeer asks, its eyes full of unwept tears.
"Some lies do my boy. Now Chopper onwards before this storm gets any worse." Kureha says throwing her head back with a laugh, the reindeer; slowly nods but does what he can so they can both get back home safely.
This was his promise... This is who Tony Tony Chopper is.
