Chapter 26: Almost a Double Date
After saving Amity Park from another ghost attack, Danny went to the mall. "Danny!" One of his friends called him.
"Sam?" Danny asked. "What're you doing here?"
"I'm going to that new fast food place to have a soda." She answered.
"Do you mean the one where Paulina got a job after her parents cut her allowance?" Danny asked upon figuring out nothing else (except for a protest) would make her go to a place with few (if any) vegetarian options.
"Exactly, Danny." She answered with an unusual (by her standards) smile. "Do you wanna come?"
"I can't, Sam." Danny answered. "I only came to the mall to buy a gift for Violet. I'm going to Metroville for a date." At that point, he no longer cared about how the mention of his girlfriend made Sam feel.
After that talk, Danny bought a hair clip and flew to Metroville. As agreed, he landed by the Parrs' front door and rang the doorbell. "Danny?" Bob Parr asked and then smile. "Come in."
In spite of knowing Bob Parr is Violet's father and Mr. Incredible, Danny showed no fear upon entering the Parr residence. At least not until a scanner analyzed him. "Ecto signature confirmed visitor's identity as Danny Phantom." The scanner said.
"Is this really necessary, Mr. Parr?" Danny asked.
"You never know when imposters like that Amorpho guy you mentioned will show up, Skinny Phantom." Dash Parr said as he zoomed in.
"Okay." Danny reluctantly said. Thinking of that shapeshifting ghost discouraged him from further arguing the case.
"Dash, did you do your homework?" Helen Parr asked him.
"Yes, Mom." Dash answered but his mother could tell he was lying.
"Then let me see it." She ordered him.
"Uh, the dog ate it." He said.
"Dashiell Robert Parr, no more TV for you today and you'd better have your homework ready for when I ask for it tomorrow or I'll extend your punishment." She threatened him and left the living room.
'Full name?' Dash thought in terror. 'She means it.' "Why didn't she believe me?" He asked in frustration.
"It's just a guess but the fact we don't have a dog might've clued Mom." Violet sarcastically suggested.
"Dad, can I have a dog?" Dash asked with a pleading smile.
"If you're responsible enough to feed him, take him for regular rides, clean after his…" Bob started saying but Dash interrupted him.
"Not worth it, Dad." Dash replied and dashed away.
"I still find him more mature than Dash Baxter." Danny whispered to Violet and his girlfriend nodded in response.
Danny and Violet intended to walk to the movies but Bob insisted on driving them. After they arrived, they saw a police car chasing another car. "I'll handle it." He told the teens. "Enjoy the movie."
After Mr. Parr left, Danny saw another familiar face. "Lita?"
"Danny-kun?" Makoto Kino asked. "What're you doing here?"
"My girlfriend Violet and I are going to watch a movie, Lita." Danny answered. "By the way, Lita, this is my girlfriend Violet Parr. Violet, this is Makoto Kino, one of the other girls I met through the dating service."
"Makoto Kino?" Violet was confused. "I thought her name was Lita."
"That's my nickname, Violet-san." Makoto explained.
If Violet was confused by the use of honorifics, she didn't have a chance to show before Danny asked questions. "Lita, what're you doing so far from home during school year?" Danny asked. "Tokyo is way more than 20 miles away from here."
'She's from Japan?' Violet thought. 'I thought they were shorter than that.'
"While your concern for my education is admirable, my school was too damaged by the latest youma attack and we got a few days off, Danny-kun." Lita answered.
"Youma?" Violet asked.
"She means ghost." Danny explained.
"And I'm here because, since you didn't choose me, I picked a boy from here, Danny-kun." Makoto answered. "I'm on my way to meet him at his family's restaurant."
"The Happy Platter?" Danny asked, already suspecting who that boy was. "Are you dating Tony Rydinger?"
"How did you figure it out, Danny-kun?" Makoto asked.
"He's Violet's ex-boyfriend, Lita." Danny explained.
"Fortunately, Danny-kun, Tony-kun and I aren't going to watch any movies so there's no need to worry about an awkward double date. Goodbye." She bowed and left.
"Danny, let's buy tickets before it's too late." Violet said in a hurry.
Danny smiled and pulled tickets from his pockets. "I've bought them in anticipation, Vi." He proudly said. "Would you like some popcorn?"
One movie session later, Danny, Violet, and everybody else who watched the movie walked out of the movie theater and saw a burning building. "What happened?" Danny asked.
"A supervillain with a jetpack and a flame thrower broke into the DevTech headquarters!" A running passerby screamed and kept running.
"I'm going ghost." Danny said and flew into the sky. Upon looking around, he spotted the described villain and noticed he's wearing a suit that covered his whole body and made him look like a firefly. The half-ghost hero quickly placed himself in front of the villain and said "Not so fast, firefly."
"Oh, you heard of me?" Firefly asked with a proud tone.
"Really?" Danny was surprised. "Is that your villain name? I was just guessing."
"And what're you doing here, Phantom?" Firefly asked. "I checked it before I took this job and I thought no flying superheroes lived here."
"Had you really checked things out, you'd know I once went to France so, it's no surprise I'm somewhere closer to Amity Park than Paris." Danny replied. "Will you surrender?"
"No." Firefly said as he shot flames at Danny, who stopped them with a ghost shield.
"Now it's time to kill fire with ice." Danny said as he approached Firefly.
"The saying doesn't go…" That's how far Firefly went until Danny froze his flame thrower. Without his main weapon, the villain tried to flee. Unfortunately, for him, he was so focused on checking if Danny was following him he didn't see a wall of ice being formed in front of him. "Phantom's not bad but, when it comes to ice powers, I am the best." Frozone said, making a joke that people who didn't know his secret identity missed. "I wonder if you'll need a prison built by Tony Stark to stay away." He commented and noticed Danny. "Let's deliver him to prison and write a report, Phantom." He said.
One report delivery later, Danny rejoined his girlfriend. "Sorry if it took so long, Vi." He said.
"I know what's like, Danny." She reassured her boyfriend. To those who didn't know Violet Parr was Invisigirl, it seemed she just knew what's like being a superhero's girlfriend instead of being a superheroine.
Danny was relieved. "How about some croissants, Vi?" He suggested.
"Cool." She replied and they went to T&S Bakery, a place opened by a family that immigrated from France after Hawkmoth's downfall. "Welcome to T&S." A woman said. "How may I help you?"
"I'd like to buy a dozen croissants to go, Mrs. Cheng." Danny answered.
"You may call me Sabine, Danny." She replied. "And what kind of bag do you want for your croissants: paper or plastic?"
"Paper." Danny answered. "It can be recycled later, Sabine."
"Okay, Danny." Sabine said as she started bagging the croissants.
"Where's Marinette?" Violet asked.
"She's making a delivery." A man answered as he showed up. "It's a good thing we didn't need new identities since Marinette had to return the Ladybug Miraculous upon being discovered." Like Sabine Cheng, her husband was oblivious to the fact Marinette was the current guardian and thus still had that Miraculous and several others.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Dupain." Danny said.
"You may call me Tom, Danny." Tom replied, secretly upset Danny already had a girlfriend since he felt Marinette needed help to forget Adrien.
"Here's your order, Danny." Sabine said as she handed Danny a bag.
"Thank you, Sabine." Danny replied as he paid for the croissants.
"Will you need the receipt for the National Super Agency, Danny?" Tom asked.
"Not for the agency but I'll want it anyway, Tom." Danny answered. He'd explain more but Tom and Sabine were civilians and, as far as they knew, Violet was a civilian as well. After Danny and Violet left the bakery, each superhero ate a croissant and they took the others to the Parr residence. There, Bob, Helen and Dash ate one croissant each. Dash would've eaten more but a glare from his mother discouraged him.
Danny took the remaining croissants back home and shared them with his family. He then phoned his friends and Tucker was the most eager to respond. "Dude, did you really fight a Bat-villain?" The Bat-fanboy asked.
"Who?" Danny asked before connecting the dots. "Do you mean that firefly guy?"
"Yes!" Tucker answered. "Sure, he's not a big time foe like the Joker, Two-Face, or the Penguin but he's still a criminal who started as one of Batman's foes! At first, he became an arsonist to get payback at his ex-girlfriend for dumping him but later became an arsonist for hire."
"I get it, Tucker." Danny interrupted the techno geek. "The guy's an arsonist version of Plasmius. How were things in Amity Park while I was away?"
"Well, the Ghost Blasters and your parents took care of the few ghosts who showed up; being Danny Phantom's best friend made me popular enough I had to remind some girls of the fact I already have a girlfriend; and Star introduced one of her cousins to Sam."
"What?" Danny was shocked.
"Don't worry, Danny." Tucker reassured his superhero friend. "By what Sam says about the guy, he must be the White Sheep in the family."
"Okay, Tucker.
End chapter.
Deadpool's Note: And so, once again, the chapter was shorter than 2000 words, thanks to Luiz4200's laziness.
Wade, this is not a Power Puff Girls fanfic.
Author's question: Can anyone guess why Tucker mentioned those three villains as big time examples of Batman's Rogues Gallery?
Answer to Leonardo (Guest): Desculpas aceitas.
Answer to djinn (Guest): Thank you.
Answer to Guest: Jack saw a girl dressed like Hawkmoth and jumped to conclusions.
Answer to Leonardo (Guest – Chapter 24): Valeu. De qual referência você gostou mais?
Answer to Guest: Miss read what?
Answer to Leonardo (Guest – Chapter 23): A essa altura do campeonato, isso não surpreende mais.
