Chapter 26- The Long and Winding Road
James and Lily stayed out and watched the sun go down and when the sun had finally set, they were in no rush to get back to the head's common room stopping at every broom closet on the way back as they were still in the bliss of being engaged. When they finally got back to their common room, they found their friends there.
"Surprise!" Their friends screamed at them. They had set up a graduation party for them. However, it was quickly swept under the rug when Lily's friends noticed the ring on her finger.
"Oh my gosh Lily what is that?!" Marlene and Mary screamed at the same time.
"James, you didn't did you?" The marauders asked him.
"Yep, James proposed, and I said yes." Lily responded to both the marauders, Marlene, and Mary.
"Congratulations guys! I think this calls for the party to get started." Sirius said.
The party was in full swing the girls observing Lily's ring and the boys recalled all their memories and how many times James failed to successfully ask out Lily and how much Lily had hated James. It was sad that they time at Hogwarts was coming to an end, but they all saw this as an opportunity to make a difference in the world. Towards the end of the party, they received a note from Dumbledore requesting them all in his office as soon as possible. Since the party was winding down, they decided to go Dumbledore's office right away.
"I assume you are all wondering why I have asked you to come here tonight." Dumbledore said. "I have had you come here to ask you to join my secret organization to fight against Voldemort and his death eaters."
It took a moment before someone was to respond to Dumbledore.
"I want to join the fight sir." James said. It wasn't long until they all told Dumbledore that they would fight against Voldemort and his death eaters. It was a no brainer for Lily after James had said that he would as wherever James was Lily would want to be there with him. They returned to the heads common room and they were all about to go to bed as it was graduation tomorrow when the marauders broke into song.
The long and winding road that leads to your door will never disappear, I've seen that road before it always leads me here lead me to your door. They had finally all went to bed after that performance by the marauders as the next day was their graduating ceremony and James and Lily had to give a speech as head boy and girl.
The next day arrived and James and Lily were all ready to give their big speech when they got to the podium, they didn't see the glares coming from one Slytherin as along with the rest of the graduating class saw the ring on Lily's finger and it was at this point that Snape knew that he had lost.
"welcome graduating class of 1978 it has been a long and adventurous road to get here I'll admit at the beginning of the year we were nervous as this year was N.E.W.T.S but we are so proud of you guys powering through them remember don't be afraid to take risks and to make mistakes and make your impact on the world. Thank you for the amazing year we've had it truly has been a long and winding road to get here." James and Lily spoke and they all threw their caps in the air they had all graduated.
